   Then Elisha said, Hear ye the word of the LORD; Thus saith the LORD, To morrow about this time shall a measure of fine flour be sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, in the gate of Samaria.

   וַיַּעַןvay/YA/anthen answeredהַשָּׁלִישׁhash/sha/LISHthe officerאֲשֶׁר־לַמֶּלֶךְa/SHER-lam/ME/lekhthat the kingנִשְׁעָןnish/ANleanedעַל־יָדוֹal-ya/DOon his handאֶת־אִישׁet-ishthe man ofהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodוַיֹּאמַרvay/yo/MARand saidהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDעֹשֶׂהo/SEwere makingאֲרֻבּוֹתa/rub/BOTwindowsבַּשָּׁמַיִםbash/sha/MA/yimin the heavensהֲיִהְיֶהha/yih/YEcould beהַדָּבָרhad/da/VARthe thingהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand he saidהִנְּכָהhin/ne/KHAbehold youרֹאֶהro/Eshall seeבְּעֵינֶיךָbe/e/NE/khawith your eyesוּמִשָּׁםu/mish/SHAMbut of itלֹאlonotתֹאכֵל׃to/KHELyou shall eat

   Then a lord on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God, and said, Behold, if the LORD would make windows in heaven, might this thing be? And he said, Behold, thou shalt see it with thine eyes, but shalt not eat thereof.

   וְאַרְבָּעָהve/ar/ba/Aand fourאֲנָשִׁיםa/na/SHIMmenהָיוּha/YUwereמְצֹרָעִיםme/tso/ra/IMleprousפֶּתַחPE/tachat the entrance ofהַשָּׁעַרhash/SHA/arthe gateוַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidאִישׁisheachאֶל־רֵעֵהוּel-re/E/huto his fellowמָהmawhyאֲנַחְנוּa/NACH/nuweיֹשְׁבִיםyosh/VIMare sittingפֹּהpohereעַד־מָתְנוּ׃ad-MAT/nuuntil we die

   And there were four leprous men at the entering in of the gate: and they said one to another, Why sit we here until we die?

4. 4

   אִם־אָמַרְנוּim-a/MAR/nuif we sayנָבוֹאna/VOlet us enterהָעִירha/IRthe cityוְהָרָעָבve/ha/ra/AVthen the famine isבָּעִירba/IRin the cityוָמַתְנוּva/MAT/nuand we shall dieשָׁםshamthereוְאִם־יָשַׁבְנוּve/IM-ya/SHAV/nuand if we sitפֹהfohereוָמָתְנוּva/MAT/nuwe shall dieוְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowלְכוּle/KHUcomeוְנִפְּלָהve/nip/pe/LAand let us fallאֶל־מַחֲנֵהel-ma/cha/NEto the camp ofאֲרָםA/RAMAramאִם־יְחַיֻּנוּim-ye/chay/YU/nuif they keep us aliveנִחְיֶהnich/YEwe shall liveוְאִם־יְמִיתֻנוּve/IM-ye/mi/TU/nuand if they kill usוָמָתְנוּ׃va/MAT/nuwe shall die

   If we say, We will enter into the city, then the famine is in the city, and we shall die there: and if we sit still here, we die also. Now therefore come, and let us fall unto the host of the Syrians: if they save us alive, we shall live; and if they kill us, we shall but die.

   וַיָּקֻמוּvay/ya/KU/muand they rose upבַנֶּשֶׁףvan/NE/shefin the twilightלָבוֹאla/VOto goאֶל־מַחֲנֵהel-ma/cha/NEto the camp ofאֲרָםA/RAMAramוַיָּבֹאוּvay/ya/VO/uand they cameעַד־קְצֵהad-ke/TSEto the edge ofמַחֲנֵהma/cha/NEthe camp ofאֲרָםA/RAMAramוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdאֵין־שָׁםen-shamthere was not thereאִישׁ׃isha man

   And they rose up in the twilight, to go unto the camp of the Syrians: and when they were come to the uttermost part of the camp of Syria, behold, there was no man there.

   וַאדֹנָיva/do/NAYand the Lordהִשְׁמִיעַhish/MI/ahad made to hearאֶת־מַחֲנֵהet-ma/cha/NEthe camp ofאֲרָםA/RAMAramקוֹלkola sound ofרֶכֶבRE/khevchariotsקוֹלkola sound ofסוּסsusa horseקוֹלkola sound ofחַיִלCHA/yilan armyגָּדוֹלga/DOLgreatוַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidאִישׁisheachאֶל־אָחִיוel-a/CHIVto his brotherהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdשָׂכַר־עָלֵינוּsa/KHAR-a/LE/nuhas hired against usמֶלֶךְME/lekhthe king ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelאֶת־מַלְכֵיet-mal/KHEthe kings ofהַחִתִּיםha/Chit/TIMthe Hittitesוְאֶת־מַלְכֵיve/ET-mal/KHEand the kings ofמִצְרַיִםMits/RA/yimEgyptלָבוֹאla/VOto comeעָלֵינוּ׃a/LE/nuagainst us

   For the Lord had made the host of the Syrians to hear a noise of chariots, and a noise of horses, even the noise of a great host: and they said one to another, Lo, the king of Israel hath hired against us the kings of the Hittites, and the kings of the Egyptians, to come upon us.

   וַיָּקוּמוּvay/ya/KU/muso they aroseוַיָּנוּסוּvay/ya/NU/suand they fledבַנֶּשֶׁףvan/NE/shefin the twilightוַיַּעַזְבוּvay/ya/az/VUand they leftאֶת־אׇהֳלֵיהֶםet-o/ho/le/HEMtheir tentsוְאֶת־סוּסֵיהֶםve/ET-su/se/HEMand their horsesוְאֶת־חֲמֹרֵיהֶםve/ET-cha/mo/re/HEMand their donkeysהַמַּחֲנֶהham/ma/cha/NEthe campכַּאֲשֶׁר־הִיאka/a/SHER-hias it wasוַיָּנֻסוּvay/ya/NU/suand they fledאֶל־נַפְשָׁם׃el-naf/SHAMfor their life

   Wherefore they arose and fled in the twilight, and left their tents, and their horses, and their asses, even the camp as it was, and fled for their life.

   וַיָּבֹאוּvay/ya/VO/uand cameהַמְצֹרָעִיםham/tso/ra/IMthe lepersהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseעַד־קְצֵהad-ke/TSEto the edge ofהַמַּחֲנֶהham/ma/cha/NEthe campוַיָּבֹאוּvay/ya/VO/uand they wentאֶל־אֹהֶלel-O/helinto tentאֶחָדe/CHADoneוַיֹּאכְלוּvay/yo/khe/LUand they ateוַיִּשְׁתּוּvay/yish/TUand drankוַיִּשְׂאוּvay/yis/Uand carriedמִשָּׁםmish/SHAMfrom thereכֶּסֶףKE/sefsilverוְזָהָבve/za/HAVand goldוּבְגָדִיםu/ve/ga/DIMand garmentsוַיֵּלְכוּvay/yel/KHUand they wentוַיַּטְמִנוּvay/yat/MI/nuand hid itוַיָּשֻׁבוּvay/ya/SHU/vuand came backוַיָּבֹאוּvay/ya/VO/uand wentאֶל־אֹהֶלel-O/helinto tentאַחֵרa/CHERanotherוַיִּשְׂאוּvay/yis/Uand carriedמִשָּׁםmish/SHAMfrom thereוַיֵּלְכוּvay/yel/KHUand they wentוַיַּטְמִנוּ׃vay/yat/MI/nuand hid it

   And when these lepers came to the uttermost part of the camp, they went into one tent, and did eat and drink, and carried thence silver, and gold, and raiment, and went and hid it; and came again, and entered into another tent, and carried thence also, and went and hid it.

   וַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidאִישׁisheachאֶל־רֵעֵהוּel-re/E/huto his fellowלֹא־כֵןlo-khennot rightאֲנַחְנוּa/NACH/nuweעֹשִׂיםo/SIMare doingהַיּוֹםhay/YOMdayהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisיוֹם־בְּשֹׂרָהyom-be/so/RAa day of good newsהוּאhuis itוַאֲנַחְנוּva/a/NACH/nuand we areמַחְשִׁיםmach/SHIMare silentוְחִכִּינוּve/chik/KI/nuif we waitעַד־אוֹרad-oruntil the light ofהַבֹּקֶרhab/BO/kerthe morningוּמְצָאָנוּu/me/tsa/A/nuthen will find usעָווֹןa/VONpunishmentוְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowלְכוּle/KHUcomeוְנָבֹאָהve/na/VO/alet us goוְנַגִּידָהve/nag/GI/daand tellבֵּיתbetthe household ofהַמֶּלֶךְ׃ham/ME/lekhthe king

   Then they said one to another, We do not well: this day is a day of good tidings, and we hold our peace: if we tarry till the morning light, some mischief will come upon us: now therefore come, that we may go and tell the king's household.

10. 10

    וַיָּבֹאוּvay/ya/VO/uand they cameוַיִּקְרְאוּvay/yik/re/Uand calledאֶל־שֹׁעֵרel-sho/ERto the gatekeepers ofהָעִירha/IRthe cityוַיַּגִּידוּvay/yag/GI/duand toldלָהֶםla/HEMto themלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingבָּאנוּBA/nuwe wentאֶל־מַחֲנֵהel-ma/cha/NEto the camp ofאֲרָםA/RAMAramוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdאֵין־שָׁםen-shamthere was not thereאִישׁisha manוְקוֹלve/KOLor the voice ofאָדָםa/DAMmanכִּיkibutאִם־הַסּוּסim-has/SUSonly the horsesאָסוּרa/SURtiedוְהַחֲמוֹרve/ha/cha/MORand the donkeysאָסוּרa/SURtiedוְאֹהָלִיםve/o/ha/LIMand tentsכַּאֲשֶׁר־הֵמָּה׃ka/a/SHER-HEM/maas they were

    So they came and called unto the porter of the city: and they told them, saying, We came to the camp of the Syrians, and, behold, there was no man there, neither voice of man, but horses tied, and asses tied, and the tents as they were.

11. 11

    וַיִּקְרָאvay/yik/RAand called outהַשֹּׁעֲרִיםhash/sho/a/RIMthe gatekeepersוַיַּגִּידוּvay/yag/GI/duand they toldבֵּיתbetthe house ofהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingפְּנִימָה׃pe/NI/mawithin

    And he called the porters; and they told it to the king's house within.

12. 12

    וַיָּקׇםvay/YA/komand aroseהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingלַיְלָהLAY/lain the nightוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֶל־עֲבָדָיוel-a/va/DAYVto his servantsאַגִּידָה־נָּאag/GI/da-nalet me tell nowלָכֶםla/KHEMto youאֵת־אֲשֶׁר־עָשׂוּet-a/SHER-a/SUwhat have doneלָנוּLA/nuto usאֲרָםA/RAMAramיָדְעוּya/de/Uthey knowכִּי־רְעֵבִיםki-re/e/VIMthat hungryאֲנַחְנוּa/NACH/nuare weוַיֵּצְאוּvay/yets/Uso they have gone outמִן־הַמַּחֲנֶהmin-ham/ma/cha/NEfrom the campלְהֵחָבֵהle/he/cha/VEto hide themselves[בַשָּׂדֶה]vas/sa/DEin the fieldלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingכִּי־יֵצְאוּki-yets/Uwhen they come outמִן־הָעִירmin-ha/IRfrom the cityוְנִתְפְּשֵׂםve/nit/pe/SEMand we will seize themחַיִּיםchay/YIMaliveוְאֶל־הָעִירve/EL-ha/IRand into the cityנָבֹא׃na/VOwe will go

    And the king arose in the night, and said unto his servants, I will now shew you what the Syrians have done to us. They know that we be hungry; therefore are they gone out of the camp to hide themselves in the field, saying, When they come out of the city, we shall catch them alive, and get into the city.

13. 13

    וַיַּעַןvay/YA/anand answeredאֶחָדe/CHADoneמֵעֲבָדָיוme/a/va/DAYVof his servantsוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidוְיִקְחוּ־נָאve/yik/CHU-nalet them take pleaseחֲמִשָּׁהcha/mish/SHAfiveמִן־הַסּוּסִיםmin-has/su/SIMof the horsesהַנִּשְׁאָרִיםhan/nish/a/RIMthat remainאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatנִשְׁאֲרוּ־בָהּnish/a/RU-vaare left in itהִנָּםhin/NAMbehold they areכְּכׇל־[הֲמוֹן]ke/KHOL-ha/MONlike all the multitude of(ההמון)hahamavanיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatנִשְׁאֲרוּ־בָהּnish/a/RU-vaare left in itהִנָּםhin/NAMbehold they areכְּכׇל־הֲמוֹןke/KHOL-ha/MONlike all the multitude ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelאֲשֶׁר־תָּמּוּa/SHER-TAM/muthat have perishedוְנִשְׁלְחָהve/nish/le/CHAso let us sendוְנִרְאֶה׃ve/nir/Eand let us see

    And one of his servants answered and said, Let some take, I pray thee, five of the horses that remain, which are left in the city, (behold, they are as all the multitude of Israel that are left in it: behold, I say, they are even as all the multitude of the Israelites that are consumed:) and let us send and see.

14. 14

    וַיִּקְחוּvay/yik/CHUand they tookשְׁנֵיshe/NEtwoרֶכֶבRE/khevchariotסוּסִיםsu/SIMhorsesוַיִּשְׁלַחvay/yish/LACHand sentהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterמַחֲנֵה־אֲרָםma/cha/NE-A/RAMthe camp of Aramלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingלְכוּle/KHUgoוּרְאוּ׃u/re/Uand see

    They took therefore two chariot horses; and the king sent after the host of the Syrians, saying, Go and see.

    וַיֵּלְכוּvay/yel/KHUand they wentאַחֲרֵיהֶםa/cha/re/HEMafter themעַד־הַיַּרְדֵּןad-Hay/yar/DENas far as the Jordanוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdכׇל־הַדֶּרֶךְkhol-had/DE/rekhall the wayמְלֵאָהme/le/Awas full ofבְגָדִיםve/ga/DIMgarmentsוְכֵלִיםve/khe/LIMand equipmentאֲשֶׁר־הִשְׁלִיכוּa/SHER-hish/LI/khuthat had thrown awayאֲרָםA/RAMAram[בְּחׇפְזָם]be/chof/ZAMin their hasteוַיָּשֻׁבוּvay/ya/SHU/vuand returnedהַמַּלְאָכִיםham/mal/a/KHIMthe messengersוַיַּגִּדוּvay/yag/GI/duand toldלַמֶּלֶךְ׃lam/ME/lekhthe king

    And they went after them unto Jordan: and, lo, all the way was full of garments and vessels, which the Syrians had cast away in their haste. And the messengers returned, and told the king.

    וַיֵּצֵאvay/ye/TSEand went outהָעָםha/AMthe peopleוַיָּבֹזּוּvay/ya/VOZ/zuand plunderedאֵת־מַחֲנֵהet-ma/cha/NEthe camp ofאֲרָםA/RAMAramוַיְהִיvay/HIand wasסְאָה־סֹלֶתse/A-SO/leta seah of fine flourבְּשֶׁקֶלbe/SHE/kelfor a shekelוְסָאתַיִםve/sa/TA/yimand two seahsשְׂעֹרִיםse/o/RIMbarleyבְּשֶׁקֶלbe/SHE/kelfor a shekelכִּדְבַרkid/VARaccording to the word ofיְהֹוָה׃Adonaithe LORD

    And the people went out, and spoiled the tents of the Syrians. So a measure of fine flour was sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, according to the word of the LORD.

17. 17

    וְהַמֶּלֶךְve/ham/ME/lekhand the kingהִפְקִידhif/KIDhad appointedאֶת־הַשָּׁלִישׁet-hash/sha/LISHthe officerאֲשֶׁר־נִשְׁעָןa/SHER-nish/ANon whom he leanedעַל־יָדוֹal-ya/DOon his handעַל־הַשַּׁעַרal-hash/SHA/arover the gateוַיִּרְמְסֻהוּvay/yir/me/SU/huand trampled himהָעָםha/AMthe peopleבַּשַּׁעַרbash/SHA/arin the gateוַיָּמֹתvay/ya/MOTand he diedכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERasדִּבֶּרdib/BERhad saidאִישׁishthe man ofהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoדִּבֶּרdib/BERspokeבְּרֶדֶתbe/RE/detwhen came downהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingאֵלָיו׃e/LAYVto him

    And the king appointed the lord on whose hand he leaned to have the charge of the gate: and the people trode upon him in the gate, and he died, as the man of God had said, who spake when the king came down to him.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passכְּדַבֵּרke/dab/BERas had spokenאִישׁishthe man ofהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodאֶל־הַמֶּלֶךְel-ham/ME/lekhto the kingלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingסָאתַיִםsa/TA/yimtwo seahsשְׂעֹרִיםse/o/RIMbarleyבְּשֶׁקֶלbe/SHE/kelfor a shekelוּסְאָה־סֹלֶתu/se/A-SO/letand a seah of fine flourבְּשֶׁקֶלbe/SHE/kelfor a shekelיִהְיֶהyih/YEshall beכָּעֵתka/ETabout this timeמָחָרma/CHARtomorrowבְּשַׁעַרbe/SHA/arin the gate ofשֹׁמְרוֹן׃Shom/RONSamaria

    And it came to pass as the man of God had spoken to the king, saying, Two measures of barley for a shekel, and a measure of fine flour for a shekel, shall be to morrow about this time in the gate of Samaria:

    וַיַּעַןvay/YA/anand answeredהַשָּׁלִישׁhash/sha/LISHthe officerאֶת־אִישׁet-ishthe man ofהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodוַיֹּאמַרvay/yo/MARand saidוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEnow beholdיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDעֹשֶׂהo/SEwere makingאֲרֻבּוֹתa/rub/BOTwindowsבַּשָּׁמַיִםbash/sha/MA/yimin the heavensהֲיִהְיֶהha/yih/YEcould beכַּדָּבָרkad/da/VARa thing likeהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidהִנְּךָhin/ne/KHAbehold youרֹאֶהro/Eshall seeבְּעֵינֶיךָbe/e/NE/khawith your eyesוּמִשָּׁםu/mish/SHAMbut of itלֹאlonotתֹאכֵל׃to/KHELyou shall eat

    וַיְהִי־לוֹvay/HI-loand it happened to himכֵּןkensoוַיִּרְמְסוּvay/yir/me/SUand they trampledאֹתוֹo/TOhimהָעָםha/AMthe peopleבַּשַּׁעַרbash/SHA/arin the gateוַיָּמֹת׃vay/ya/MOTand he died

    And so it fell out unto him: for the people trode upon him in the gate, and he died.
