   Now Jehoram the son of Ahab began to reign over Israel in Samaria the eighteenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and reigned twelve years.

   וַיַּעֲשֶׂהvay/ya/a/SEand he didהָרַעha/RAevilבְּעֵינֵיbe/e/NEin the eyes ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDרַקrakbutלֹאlonotכְאָבִיוkhe/a/VIVlike his fatherוּכְאִמּוֹu/khe/im/MOand like his motherוַיָּסַרvay/YA/sarand he put awayאֶת־מַצְּבַתet-mats/tse/VATthe pillar ofהַבַּעַלhab/BA/althe Baalאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatעָשָׂהa/SAhad madeאָבִיו׃a/VIVhis father

   And he wrought evil in the sight of the LORD; but not like his father, and like his mother: for he put away the image of Baal that his father had made.

   רַקrakbutבְּחַטֹּאותbe/chat/TOTto the sins ofיָרׇבְעָםYa/rov/AMJeroboamבֶּן־נְבָטben-Ne/VATthe son of Nebatאֲשֶׁר־הֶחֱטִיאa/SHER-he/che/TIwho made to sinאֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵלet-Yis/ra/ELIsraelדָּבֵקda/VEKhe clungלֹא־סָרlo-sarhe did not departמִמֶּנָּה׃mim/MEN/nafrom it

   Nevertheless he cleaved unto the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, which made Israel to sin; he departed not therefrom.

   וּמֵישַׁעu/Me/SHAand Meshaמֶלֶךְ־מוֹאָבME/lekh-Mo/AVthe king of Moabהָיָהha/YAwasנֹקֵדno/KEDa sheep breederוְהֵשִׁיבve/he/SHIVand he paidלְמֶלֶךְ־יִשְׂרָאֵלle/ME/lekh-yis/ra/ELto the king of Israelמֵאָה־אֶלֶףme/A-E/lefa hundred thousandכָּרִיםka/RIMlambsוּמֵאָהu/me/Aand a hundredאֶלֶףE/lefthousandאֵילִיםe/LIMramsצָמֶר׃TSA/merwool

   And Mesha king of Moab was a sheepmaster, and rendered unto the king of Israel an hundred thousand lambs, and an hundred thousand rams, with the wool.

   וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passכְּמוֹתke/MOTat the death ofאַחְאָבAch/AVAhabוַיִּפְשַׁעvay/yif/SHAand rebelledמֶלֶךְ־מוֹאָבME/lekh-Mo/AVthe king of Moabבְּמֶלֶךְbe/ME/lekhagainst the king ofיִשְׂרָאֵל׃Yis/ra/ELIsrael

   But it came to pass, when Ahab was dead, that the king of Moab rebelled against the king of Israel.

   וַיֵּצֵאvay/ye/TSEand went outהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingיְהוֹרָםYe/ho/RAMJehoramבַּיּוֹםbay/YOMon the dayהַהוּאha/HUthatמִשֹּׁמְרוֹןmish/Shom/RONfrom Samariaוַיִּפְקֹדvay/yif/KODand he musteredאֶת־כׇּל־יִשְׂרָאֵל׃et-Kol-yis/ra/ELall Israel

   And king Jehoram went out of Samaria the same time, and numbered all Israel.

   And he went and sent to Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, saying, The king of Moab hath rebelled against me: wilt thou go with me against Moab to battle? And he said, I will go up: I am as thou art, my people as thy people, and my horses as thy horses.

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand he saidאֵי־זֶהe-zewhichהַדֶּרֶךְhad/DE/rekhwayנַעֲלֶהna/a/LEshall we go upוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand he saidדֶּרֶךְDE/rekhthe way ofמִדְבַּרmid/BARthe wilderness ofאֱדוֹם׃E/DOMEdom

   And he said, Which way shall we go up? And he answered, The way through the wilderness of Edom.

   וַיֵּלֶךְvay/YE/lekhand wentמֶלֶךְME/lekhthe king ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelוּמֶלֶךְ־יְהוּדָהu/ME/lekh-ye/hu/DAand the king of Judahוּמֶלֶךְu/ME/lekhand the king ofאֱדוֹםE/DOMEdomוַיָּסֹבּוּvay/ya/SOB/buand they went aroundדֶּרֶךְDE/rekha journey ofשִׁבְעַתshiv/ATsevenיָמִיםya/MIMdaysוְלֹא־הָיָהve/LO-HA/yaand there was noמַיִםMA/yimwaterלַמַּחֲנֶהlam/ma/cha/NEfor the armyוְלַבְּהֵמָהve/lab/be/he/MAor for the animalsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatבְּרַגְלֵיהֶם׃be/rag/le/HEMat their feet

   So the king of Israel went, and the king of Judah, and the king of Edom: and they fetched a compass of seven days' journey: and there was no water for the host, and for the cattle that followed them.

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidמֶלֶךְME/lekhthe king ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelאֲהָהּa/HAalasכִּי־קָרָאki-ka/RAfor has calledיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDלִשְׁלֹשֶׁתlish/LO/shetthreeהַמְּלָכִיםham/me/la/KHIMkingsהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseלָתֵתla/TETto giveאוֹתָםo/TAMthemבְּיַד־מוֹאָב׃be/YAD-mo/AVinto the hand of Moab

    And the king of Israel said, Alas! that the LORD hath called these three kings together, to deliver them into the hand of Moab!

11. 11

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidיְהוֹשָׁפָטYe/ho/sha/FATJehoshaphatהַאֵיןha/ENis there notפֹּהpohereנָבִיאna/VIa prophetלַיהֹוָהla-Adonaiof the LORDוְנִדְרְשָׁהve/nid/re/SHAthat we may inquire ofאֶת־יְהֹוָהet-Adonaithe LORDמֵאוֹתוֹme/o/TOthrough himוַיַּעַןvay/YA/anand he answeredאֶחָדe/CHADoneמֵעַבְדֵיme/av/DEof the servants ofמֶלֶךְ־יִשְׂרָאֵלME/lekh-Yis/ra/ELthe king of Israelוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidפֹּהpohereאֱלִישָׁעE/li/SHAElishaבֶּן־שָׁפָטben-Sha/FATthe son of Shaphatאֲשֶׁר־יָצַקa/SHER-YA/tsakwho pouredמַיִםMA/yimwaterעַל־יְדֵיal-ye/DEon the hands ofאֵלִיָּהוּ׃E/liy/YA/huElijah

    But Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of the LORD, that we may enquire of the LORD by him? And one of the king of Israel's servants answered and said, Here is Elisha the son of Shaphat, which poured water on the hands of Elijah.

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidיְהוֹשָׁפָטYe/ho/sha/FATJehoshaphatיֵשׁyeshthere isאוֹתוֹo/TOwith himדְּבַר־יְהֹוָהde/VAR-Adonaithe word of the LORDוַיֵּרְדוּvay/yer/DUso went downאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himמֶלֶךְME/lekhthe king ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelוִיהוֹשָׁפָטVi/ho/sha/FATand Jehoshaphatוּמֶלֶךְu/ME/lekhand the king ofאֱדוֹם׃E/DOMEdom

    And Jehoshaphat said, The word of the LORD is with him. So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat and the king of Edom went down to him.

13. 13

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֱלִישָׁעE/li/SHAElishaאֶל־מֶלֶךְel-ME/lekhto the king ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelמַה־לִּיma-liwhat is to meוָלָךְva/LAKHand to youלֵךְlekhgoאֶל־נְבִיאֵיel-ne/vi/Eto the prophets ofאָבִיךָa/VI/khayour fatherוְאֶל־נְבִיאֵיve/EL-ne/vi/Eand to the prophets ofאִמֶּךָim/ME/khayour motherוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidלוֹloto himמֶלֶךְME/lekhthe king ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelאַלalnoכִּי־קָרָאki-ka/RAfor has calledיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDלִשְׁלֹשֶׁתlish/LO/shetthreeהַמְּלָכִיםham/me/la/KHIMkingsהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseלָתֵתla/TETto giveאוֹתָםo/TAMthemבְּיַד־מוֹאָב׃be/YAD-mo/AVinto the hand of Moab

    And Elisha said unto the king of Israel, What have I to do with thee? get thee to the prophets of thy father, and to the prophets of thy mother. And the king of Israel said unto him, Nay: for the LORD hath called these three kings together, to deliver them into the hand of Moab.

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֱלִישָׁעE/li/SHAElishaחַי־יְהֹוָהchay-Adonaias the LORD livesצְבָאוֹתtse/va/OTof hostsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhomעָמַדְתִּיa/MAD/tiI standלְפָנָיוle/fa/NAYVbefore Himכִּיkisurelyלוּלֵיlu/LEwere it not thatפְּנֵיpe/NEthe face ofיְהוֹשָׁפָטYe/ho/sha/FATJehoshaphatמֶלֶךְ־יְהוּדָהME/lekh-Ye/hu/DAthe king of Judahאֲנִיa/NIIנֹשֵׂאno/SEregardאִם־אַבִּיטim-ab/BITif I would lookאֵלֶיךָe/LE/khato youוְאִם־אֶרְאֶךָּ׃ve/IM-er/EK/kaor see you

    And Elisha said, As the LORD of hosts liveth, before whom I stand, surely, were it not that I regard the presence of Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, I would not look toward thee, nor see thee.

15. 15

    וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowקְחוּ־לִיke/CHU-libring meמְנַגֵּןme/nag/GENa musicianוְהָיָהve/ha/YAand it came to passכְּנַגֵּןke/nag/GENwhen playedהַמְנַגֵּןham/nag/GENthe musicianוַתְּהִיvat/te/HIthat cameעָלָיוa/LAYVupon himיַד־יְהֹוָה׃yad-Adonaithe hand of the LORD

    But now bring me a minstrel. And it came to pass, when the minstrel played, that the hand of the LORD came upon him.

16. 16

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidכֹּהkothusאָמַרa/MARsaysיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDעָשֹׂהa/SOmakeהַנַּחַלhan/NA/chalvalleyהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisגֵּבִיםge/VIMditchesגֵּבִים׃ge/VIMditches

    And he said, Thus saith the LORD, Make this valley full of ditches.

17. 17

    כִּי־כֹהki-khofor thusאָמַרa/MARsaysיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDלֹא־תִרְאוּlo-tir/Uyou shall not seeרוּחַRU/achwindוְלֹא־תִרְאוּve/LO-tir/Unor shall you seeגֶשֶׁםGE/shemrainוְהַנַּחַלve/han/NA/chalyet the valleyהַהוּאha/HUthatיִמָּלֵאyim/MA/leshall be filledמָיִםMA/yimwaterוּשְׁתִיתֶםu/she/TI/temand you shall drinkאַתֶּםat/TEMyouוּמִקְנֵיכֶםu/mik/ne/KHEMand your livestockוּבְהֶמְתְּכֶם׃u/ve/hem/te/KHEMand your beasts

    For thus saith the LORD, Ye shall not see wind, neither shall ye see rain; yet that valley shall be filled with water, that ye may drink, both ye, and your cattle, and your beasts.

18. 18

    וְנָקַלve/na/KALand is a light thingזֹאתzotthisבְּעֵינֵיbe/e/NEin the eyes ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDוְנָתַןve/na/TANand He will giveאֶת־מוֹאָבet-Mo/AVMoabבְּיֶדְכֶם׃be/yed/KHEMinto your hand

    And this is but a light thing in the sight of the LORD: he will deliver the Moabites also into your hand.

19. 19

    וְהִכִּיתֶםve/hik/ki/TEMand you shall strikeכׇּל־עִירkol-irevery city ofמִבְצָרmiv/TSARfortressוְכׇל־עִירve/KHOL-irand every city ofמִבְחוֹרmiv/CHORchoiceוְכׇל־עֵץve/KHOL-etsand every treeטוֹבtovgoodתַּפִּילוּtap/PI/luyou shall fellוְכׇל־מַעְיְנֵי־מַיִםve/KHOL-ma/ye/NE-MA/yimand all springs of waterתִּסְתֹּמוּtis/TO/muyou shall stopוְכֹלve/KHOLand everyהַחֶלְקָהha/chel/KAplotהַטּוֹבָהhat/to/VAgoodתַּכְאִבוּtakh/I/vuyou shall ruinבָּאֲבָנִים׃ba/a/va/NIMwith stones

    And ye shall smite every fenced city, and every choice city, and shall fell every good tree, and stop all wells of water, and mar every good piece of land with stones.

20. 20

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passבַבֹּקֶרvab/BO/kerin the morningכַּעֲלוֹתka/a/LOTwhen went upהַמִּנְחָהham/min/CHAthe grain offeringוְהִנֵּה־מַיִםve/hin/NE-MA/yimand behold waterבָּאִיםba/IMcameמִדֶּרֶךְmid/DE/rekhfrom the way ofאֱדוֹםE/DOMEdomוַתִּמָּלֵאvat/tim/ma/LEand was filledהָאָרֶץha/A/retsthe landאֶת־הַמָּיִם׃et-ham/MA/yimwith water

    And it came to pass in the morning, when the meat offering was offered, that, behold, there came water by the way of Edom, and the country was filled with water.

21. 21

    וְכׇל־מוֹאָבve/KHOL-mo/AVnow all Moabשָׁמְעוּsha/me/Uheardכִּי־עָלוּki-a/LUthat had come upהַמְּלָכִיםham/me/la/KHIMthe kingsלְהִלָּחֶםle/hil/LA/chemto fightבָּםbamagainst themוַיִּצָּעֲקוּvay/yits/tsa/a/KUand were called outמִכֹּלmik/KOLallחֹגֵרcho/GERgirdingחֲגֹרָהcha/go/RAa beltוָמַעְלָהva/MA/laand upwardsוַיַּעַמְדוּvay/ya/am/DUand stoodעַל־הַגְּבוּל׃al-hag/ge/VULat the border

    And when all the Moabites heard that the kings were come up to fight against them, they gathered all that were able to put on armour, and upward, and stood in the border.

22. 22

    וַיַּשְׁכִּימוּvay/yash/KI/muand they rose earlyבַבֹּקֶרvab/BO/kerin the morningוְהַשֶּׁמֶשׁve/hash/SHE/meshand the sunזָרְחָהza/re/CHAshoneעַל־הַמָּיִםal-ham/MA/yimupon the watersוַיִּרְאוּvay/yir/Uand they sawמוֹאָבMo/AVMoabמִנֶּגֶדmin/NE/gedoppositeאֶת־הַמַּיִםet-ham/MA/yimthe watersאֲדֻמִּיםa/dum/MIMredכַּדָּם׃kad/DAMas blood

    And they rose up early in the morning, and the sun shone upon the water, and the Moabites saw the water on the other side as red as blood:

23. 23

    וַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidדָּםdambloodזֶהzeis thisהׇחֳרֵבho/cho/REVbe destroyedנֶחֶרְבוּne/cher/VUhave been destroyedהַמְּלָכִיםham/me/la/KHIMthe kingsוַיַּכּוּvay/yak/KUand they have struckאִישׁisheachאֶת־רֵעֵהוּet-re/E/huhis fellowוְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowלַשָּׁלָלlash/sha/LALto the spoilמוֹאָב׃Mo/AVMoab

    And they said, This is blood: the kings are surely slain, and they have smitten one another: now therefore, Moab, to the spoil.

24. 24

    וַיָּבֹאוּvay/ya/VO/uand they cameאֶל־מַחֲנֵהel-ma/cha/NEto the camp ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelוַיָּקֻמוּvay/ya/KU/muand rose upיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelוַיַּכּוּvay/yak/KUand struckאֶת־מוֹאָבet-Mo/AVMoabוַיָּנֻסוּvay/ya/NU/suand they fledמִפְּנֵיהֶםmip/pe/ne/HEMfrom before them[וַיַּכּוּ־]בָהּvay/yak/KU-vaand they struck into itוְהַכּוֹתve/hak/KOTstrikingאֶת־מוֹאָב׃et-Mo/AVMoab

    And when they came to the camp of Israel, the Israelites rose up and smote the Moabites, so that they fled before them: but they went forward smiting the Moabites, even in their country.

    וְהֶעָרִיםve/he/a/RIMand the citiesיַהֲרֹסוּya/ha/RO/suthey overthrewוְכׇל־חֶלְקָהve/KHOL-chel/KAand on every plotטוֹבָהto/VAgoodיַשְׁלִיכוּyash/LI/khuthey castאִישׁ־אַבְנוֹish-av/NOeach his stoneוּמִלְאוּהָu/mil/U/haand they filled itוְכׇל־מַעְיַן־מַיִםve/KHOL-ma/YAN-MA/yimand every spring of waterיִסְתֹּמוּyis/TO/muthey stoppedוְכׇל־עֵץ־טוֹבve/KHOL-ets-tovand every good treeיַפִּילוּyap/PI/luthey felledעַד־הִשְׁאִירad-hish/IRuntil one leftאֲבָנֶיהָa/va/NE/haits stonesבַּקִּירbak/KIRin Kir-חֲרָשֶׂתcha/RA/setharasethוַיָּסֹבּוּvay/ya/SOB/buand surrounded itהַקַּלָּעִיםhak/kal/la/IMthe slingersוַיַּכּוּהָ׃vay/yak/KU/haand they struck it

    And they beat down the cities, and on every good piece of land cast every man his stone, and filled it; and they stopped all the wells of water, and felled all the good trees: only in Kir-haraseth left they the stones thereof; howbeit the slingers went about it, and smote it.

    וַיַּרְאvay/YARand sawמֶלֶךְME/lekhthe king ofמוֹאָבMo/AVMoabכִּי־חָזַקki-cha/ZAKthat was too strongמִמֶּנּוּmim/MEN/nufor himהַמִּלְחָמָהham/mil/cha/MAthe battleוַיִּקַּחvay/yik/KACHand tookאוֹתוֹo/TOwith himשְׁבַע־מֵאוֹתshe/VA-me/OTseven hundredאִישׁishmenשֹׁלֵףSHO/lefdrawingחֶרֶבCHE/revswordלְהַבְקִיעַle/hav/KI/ato break throughאֶל־מֶלֶךְel-ME/lekhto the king ofאֱדוֹםE/DOMEdomוְלֹאve/LObut notיָכֹלוּ׃ya/KHO/luthey were able

    And when the king of Moab saw that the battle was too sore for him, he took with him seven hundred men that drew swords, to break through even unto the king of Edom: but they could not.

    וַיִּקַּחvay/yik/KACHand tookאֶת־בְּנוֹet-be/NOhis sonהַבְּכוֹרhab/be/KHORthe firstbornאֲשֶׁר־יִמְלֹךְa/SHER-yim/LOKHwho was to reignתַּחְתָּיוtach/TAYVin his placeוַיַּעֲלֵהוּvay/ya/a/LE/huand he offered him upעֹלָהo/LAa burnt offeringעַל־הַחֹמָהal-ha/cho/MAupon the wallוַיְהִיvay/HIand there wasקֶצֶף־גָּדוֹלKE/tsef-ga/DOLgreat wrathעַל־יִשְׂרָאֵלal-Yis/ra/ELagainst Israelוַיִּסְעוּvay/yis/Uand they departedמֵעָלָיוme/a/LAYVfrom himוַיָּשֻׁבוּvay/ya/SHU/vuand they returnedלָאָרֶץ׃la/A/retsto the land

    Then he took his eldest son that should have reigned in his stead, and offered him for a burnt offering upon the wall. And there was great indignation against Israel: and they departed from him, and returned to their own land.
