   Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned thirty and one years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Jedidah, the daughter of Adaiah of Boscath.

   וַיַּעַשׂvay/YA/asand he didהַיָּשָׁרhay/ya/SHARwhat was rightבְּעֵינֵיbe/e/NEin the eyes ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDוַיֵּלֶךְvay/YE/lekhand walkedבְּכׇל־דֶּרֶךְbe/KHOL-DE/rekhin all the way ofדָּוִדDa/VIDDavidאָבִיוa/VIVhis fatherוְלֹא־סָרve/LO-sarand did not turn asideיָמִיןya/MINto the rightוּשְׂמֹאול׃us/MOLor left

   And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, and walked in all the way of David his father, and turned not aside to the right hand or to the left.

   And it came to pass in the eighteenth year of king Josiah, that the king sent Shaphan the son of Azaliah, the son of Meshullam, the scribe, to the house of the LORD, saying,

   עֲלֵהa/LEgo upאֶל־חִלְקִיָּהוּel-Chil/kiy/YA/huto Hilkiahהַכֹּהֵןhak/ko/HENthe priestהַגָּדוֹלhag/ga/DOLhighוְיַתֵּםve/yat/TEMthat he may totalאֶת־הַכֶּסֶףet-hak/KE/sefthe silverהַמּוּבָאham/mu/VAthat is broughtבֵּיתbetinto the house ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichאָסְפוּa/se/FUhave gatheredשֹׁמְרֵיshom/REthe keepers ofהַסַּףhas/SAFthe thresholdמֵאֵתme/ETfromהָעָם׃ha/AMthe people

   Go up to Hilkiah the high priest, that he may sum the silver which is brought into the house of the LORD, which the keepers of the door have gathered of the people:

   (ויתנה)vayatanah[וְיִתְּנוּהוּ]ve/yit/te/NU/huand let them give itעַל־יַדal-yadinto the hand ofעֹשֵׂיo/SEthe doers ofהַמְּלָאכָהham/me/la/KHAthe workהַמֻּפְקָדִיםham/muf/ka/DIMwho are appointed over(בבית)vavayat[בֵּית]betthe house ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDוְיִתְּנוּve/yit/te/NUand let them giveאֹתוֹo/TOitלְעֹשֵׂיle/o/SEto the doers ofהַמְּלָאכָהham/me/la/KHAthe workאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthat isבְּבֵיתbe/VETin the house ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDלְחַזֵּקle/chaz/ZEKto repairבֶּדֶקBE/dekthe breaches ofהַבָּיִת׃hab/BA/yitthe house

   And let them deliver it into the hand of the doers of the work, that have the oversight of the house of the LORD: and let them give it to the doers of the work which is in the house of the LORD, to repair the breaches of the house,

   לֶחָרָשִׁיםle/cha/ra/SHIMto the craftsmenוְלַבֹּנִיםve/lab/bo/NIMand to the buildersוְלַגֹּדְרִיםve/lag/god/RIMand to the masonsוְלִקְנוֹתve/lik/NOTand to buyעֵצִיםe/TSIMtimberוְאַבְנֵיve/av/NEand stones ofמַחְצֵבmach/TSEVhewingלְחַזֵּקle/chaz/ZEKto repairאֶת־הַבָּיִת׃et-hab/BA/yitthe house

   Unto carpenters, and builders, and masons, and to buy timber and hewn stone to repair the house.

   אַךְakhonlyלֹא־יֵחָשֵׁבlo-ye/cha/SHEVno accounting is madeאִתָּםit/TAMwith themהַכֶּסֶףhak/KE/sefof the moneyהַנִּתָּןhan/nit/TANthat is givenעַל־יָדָםal-ya/DAMinto their handכִּיkibecauseבֶאֱמוּנָהve/e/mu/NAin faithfulnessהֵםhemtheyעֹשִׂים׃o/SIMact

   Howbeit there was no reckoning made with them of the money that was delivered into their hand, because they dealt faithfully.

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidחִלְקִיָּהוּChil/kiy/YA/huHilkiahהַכֹּהֵןhak/ko/HENthe priestהַגָּדוֹלhag/ga/DOLhighעַל־שָׁפָןal-Sha/FANto Shaphanהַסֹּפֵרhas/so/FERthe scribeסֵפֶרSE/ferthe book ofהַתּוֹרָהhat/to/RAthe lawמָצָאתִיma/TSA/tiI have foundבְּבֵיתbe/VETin the house ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDוַיִּתֵּןvay/yit/TENand gaveחִלְקִיָּהChil/kiy/YAHilkiahאֶת־הַסֵּפֶרet-has/SE/ferthe bookאֶל־שָׁפָןel-Sha/FANto Shaphanוַיִּקְרָאֵהוּ׃vay/yik/ra/E/huand he read it

   And Hilkiah the high priest said unto Shaphan the scribe, I have found the book of the law in the house of the LORD. And Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan, and he read it.

   וַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand cameשָׁפָןSha/FANShaphanהַסֹּפֵרhas/so/FERthe scribeאֶל־הַמֶּלֶךְel-ham/ME/lekhto the kingוַיָּשֶׁבvay/YA/shevand brought backאֶת־הַמֶּלֶךְet-ham/ME/lekhthe kingדָּבָרda/VARwordוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidהִתִּיכוּhit/TI/khuhave emptied outעֲבָדֶיךָa/va/DE/khayour servantsאֶת־הַכֶּסֶףet-hak/KE/sefthe moneyהַנִּמְצָאhan/nim/TSAthat was foundבַבַּיִתvab/BA/yitin the houseוַיִּתְּנֻהוּvay/yit/te/NU/huand have given itעַל־יַדal-yadinto the hand ofעֹשֵׂיo/SEthe doers ofהַמְּלָאכָהham/me/la/KHAthe workהַמֻּפְקָדִיםham/muf/ka/DIMwho are appointed overבֵּיתbetthe house ofיְהֹוָה׃Adonaithe LORD

   And Shaphan the scribe came to the king, and brought the king word again, and said, Thy servants have gathered the money that was found in the house, and have delivered it into the hand of them that do the work, that have the oversight of the house of the LORD.

    וַיַּגֵּדvay/yag/GEDand he toldשָׁפָןSha/FANShaphanהַסֹּפֵרhas/so/FERthe scribeלַמֶּלֶךְlam/ME/lekhthe kingלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingסֵפֶרSE/fera bookנָתַןna/TANhas givenלִיlito meחִלְקִיָּהChil/kiy/YAHilkiahהַכֹּהֵןhak/ko/HENthe priestוַיִּקְרָאֵהוּvay/yik/ra/E/huand he read itשָׁפָןSha/FANShaphanלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeהַמֶּלֶךְ׃ham/ME/lekhthe king

    And Shaphan the scribe shewed the king, saying, Hilkiah the priest hath delivered me a book. And Shaphan read it before the king.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passכִּשְׁמֹעַkish/MO/awhen heardהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingאֶת־דִּבְרֵיet-div/REthe words ofסֵפֶרSE/ferthe book ofהַתּוֹרָהhat/to/RAthe lawוַיִּקְרַעvay/yik/RAand he toreאֶת־בְּגָדָיו׃et-be/ga/DAYVhis garments

    And it came to pass, when the king had heard the words of the book of the law, that he rent his clothes.

    וַיְצַוvay/TSAVand commandedהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingאֶת־חִלְקִיָּהet-Chil/kiy/YAHilkiahהַכֹּהֵןhak/ko/HENthe priestוְאֶת־אֲחִיקָםve/ET-a/chi/KAMand Ahikamבֶּן־שָׁפָןben-Sha/FANthe son of Shaphanוְאֶת־עַכְבּוֹרve/ET-akh/BORand Achborבֶּן־מִיכָיָהben-Mi/kha/YAthe son of Micaiahוְאֵתve/ETandשָׁפָןSha/FANShaphanהַסֹּפֵרhas/so/FERthe scribeוְאֵתve/ETandעֲשָׂיָהA/sa/YAAsaiahעֶבֶד־הַמֶּלֶךְE/ved-ham/ME/lekhthe king's servantלֵאמֹר׃le/MORsaying

    And the king commanded Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Achbor the son of Michaiah, and Shaphan the scribe, and Asahiah a servant of the king's, saying,

    לְכוּle/KHUgoדִרְשׁוּdir/SHUinquire ofאֶת־יְהֹוָהet-Adonaithe LORDבַּעֲדִיba/a/DIfor meוּבְעַד־הָעָםu/ve/AD-ha/AMand for the peopleוּבְעַדu/ve/ADand forכׇּל־יְהוּדָהkol-Ye/hu/DAall Judahעַל־דִּבְרֵיal-div/REconcerning the words ofהַסֵּפֶרhas/SE/ferthe bookהַנִּמְצָאhan/nim/TSAthat is foundהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisכִּי־גְדוֹלָהki-ge/do/LAfor great isחֲמַתcha/MATthe wrath ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֲשֶׁר־הִיאa/SHER-hithatנִצְּתָהnits/tse/TAis kindledבָנוּVA/nuagainst usעַלalbecauseאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatלֹא־שָׁמְעוּlo-sha/me/Uhave not listenedאֲבֹתֵינוּa/vo/TE/nuour fathersעַל־דִּבְרֵיal-div/REto the words ofהַסֵּפֶרhas/SE/ferthe bookהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisלַעֲשׂוֹתla/a/SOTto doכְּכׇל־הַכָּתוּבke/KHOL-hak/ka/TUVaccording to all that is writtenעָלֵינוּ׃a/LE/nuconcerning us

    Go ye, enquire of the LORD for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that is found: for great is the wrath of the LORD that is kindled against us, because our fathers have not hearkened unto the words of this book, to do according unto all that which is written concerning us.

    So Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam, and Achbor, and Shaphan, and Asahiah, went unto Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah, the son of Harhas, keeper of the wardrobe; (now she dwelt in Jerusalem in the college;) and they communed with her.

    וַתֹּאמֶרvat/TO/merand saidאֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMto themכֹּה־אָמַרko-a/MARthus saysיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֱלֹהֵיe/lo/HEthe God ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelאִמְרוּim/RUsayלָאִישׁla/ISHto the manאֲשֶׁר־שָׁלַחa/SHER-sha/LACHwho sentאֶתְכֶםet/KHEMyouאֵלָי׃e/LAYto me

    And she said unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Tell the man that sent you to me,

16. 16

    כֹּהkothusאָמַרa/MARsaysיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDהִנְנִיhin/NIbehold I amמֵבִיאme/VIbringingרָעָהra/Aevilאֶל־הַמָּקוֹםel-ham/ma/KOMon placeהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisוְעַל־יֹשְׁבָיוve/AL-yosh/VAYVand upon its inhabitantsאֵת־כׇּל־דִּבְרֵיet-kol-div/REall the words ofהַסֵּפֶרhas/SE/ferthe bookאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatקָרָאka/RAhas readמֶלֶךְME/lekhthe king ofיְהוּדָה׃Ye/hu/DAJudah

    Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, and upon the inhabitants thereof, even all the words of the book which the king of Judah hath read:

17. 17

    תַּחַתTA/chatbecauseאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatעֲזָבוּנִיa/za/VU/nithey have forsaken Meוַיְקַטְּרוּvay/kat/te/RUand burned incenseלֵאלֹהִים־אֲחֵרִיםle/lo/HIM-a/che/RIMto other godsלְמַעַןle/MA/anin order thatהַכְעִיסֵנִיhakh/i/SE/nito provoke Meבְּכֹלbe/KHOLwith allמַעֲשֵׂהma/a/SEthe work ofיְדֵיהֶםye/de/HEMtheir handsוְנִצְּתָהve/nits/tse/TAtherefore shall be kindledחֲמָתִיcha/ma/TIMy wrathבַּמָּקוֹםbam/ma/KOMagainst placeהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisוְלֹאve/LOand notתִכְבֶּה׃tikh/BEbe quenched

    Because they have forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands; therefore my wrath shall be kindled against this place, and shall not be quenched.

    וְאֶל־מֶלֶךְve/EL-ME/lekhbut to the king ofיְהוּדָהYe/hu/DAJudahהַשֹּׁלֵחַhash/sho/LE/achwho sentאֶתְכֶםet/KHEMyouלִדְרֹשׁlid/ROSHto inquire ofאֶת־יְהֹוָהet-Adonaithe LORDכֹּהkothusתֹאמְרוּto/me/RUshall you sayאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himכֹּה־אָמַרko-a/MARthus saysיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֱלֹהֵיe/lo/HEthe God ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelהַדְּבָרִיםhad/de/va/RIMas for the wordsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatשָׁמָעְתָּ׃sha/MA/tayou have heard

    But to the king of Judah which sent you to enquire of the LORD, thus shall ye say to him, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, As touching the words which thou hast heard;

    יַעַןYA/anbecauseרַךְ־לְבָבְךָrakh-le/va/ve/KHAyour heart was tenderוַתִּכָּנַעvat/tik/ka/NAand you humbled yourselfמִפְּנֵיmip/pe/NEbeforeיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDבְּשׇׁמְעֲךָbe/shom/a/KHAwhen you heardאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhatדִּבַּרְתִּיdib/BAR/tiI spokeעַל־הַמָּקוֹםal-ham/ma/KOMagainst placeהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisוְעַל־יֹשְׁבָיוve/AL-yosh/VAYVand against its inhabitantsלִהְיוֹתlih/YOTto beלְשַׁמָּהle/sham/MAa desolationוְלִקְלָלָהve/lik/la/LAand a curseוַתִּקְרַעvat/tik/RAand have tornאֶת־בְּגָדֶיךָet-be/ga/DE/khayour garmentsוַתִּבְכֶּהvat/tiv/KEand you have weptלְפָנָיle/fa/NAYbefore Meוְגַםve/GAMalsoאָנֹכִיa/no/KHIIשָׁמַעְתִּיsha/MA/tihave heardנְאֻם־יְהֹוָה׃ne/UM-Adonaisays the LORD

    Because thine heart was tender, and thou hast humbled thyself before the LORD, when thou heardest what I spake against this place, and against the inhabitants thereof, that they should become a desolation and a curse, and hast rent thy clothes, and wept before me; I also have heard thee, saith the LORD.

    לָכֵןla/KHENthereforeהִנְנִיhin/NIbehold Iאֹסִפְךָo/sif/KHAwill gather youעַל־אֲבֹתֶיךָal-a/vo/TE/khato your fathersוְנֶאֱסַפְתָּve/ne/e/saf/TAand you shall be gatheredאֶל־קִבְרֹתֶיךָel-kiv/ro/te/KHAto your graveבְּשָׁלוֹםbe/sha/LOMin peaceוְלֹא־תִרְאֶינָהve/LO-tir/E/naand shall not seeעֵינֶיךָe/NE/khayour eyesבְּכֹלbe/KHOLallהָרָעָהha/ra/Athe evilאֲשֶׁר־אֲנִיa/SHER-a/NIthat Iמֵבִיאme/VIam bringingעַל־הַמָּקוֹםal-ham/ma/KOMupon the placeהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisוַיָּשִׁבוּvay/ya/SHI/vuand they brought backאֶת־הַמֶּלֶךְet-ham/ME/lekhthe kingדָּבָר׃da/VARword

    Behold therefore, I will gather thee unto thy fathers, and thou shalt be gathered into thy grave in peace; and thine eyes shall not see all the evil which I will bring upon this place. And they brought the king word again.
