   In the three and twentieth year of Joash the son of Ahaziah king of Judah Jehoahaz the son of Jehu began to reign over Israel in Samaria, and reigned seventeen years.

   וַיַּעַשׂvay/YA/asand he didהָרַעha/RAevilבְּעֵינֵיbe/e/NEin the eyes ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDוַיֵּלֶךְvay/YE/lekhand walkedאַחַרa/CHARafterחַטֹּאתchat/TOTthe sins ofיָרׇבְעָםYa/rov/AMJeroboamבֶּן־נְבָטben-Ne/VATthe son of Nebatאֲשֶׁר־הֶחֱטִיאa/SHER-he/che/TIwho made to sinאֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵלet-Yis/ra/ELIsraelלֹא־סָרlo-sarhe did not departמִמֶּנָּה׃mim/MEN/nafrom it

   And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, and followed the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, which made Israel to sin; he departed not therefrom.

   וַיִּחַר־אַףvay/YI/char-afand burned the anger ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDבְּיִשְׂרָאֵלbe/Yis/ra/ELagainst Israelוַיִּתְּנֵםvay/yit/te/NEMand He gave themבְּיַדbe/YADinto the hand ofחֲזָאֵלCha/za/ELHazaelמֶלֶךְ־אֲרָםME/lekh-A/RAMthe king of Aramוּבְיַדu/ve/YADand into the hand ofבֶּן־הֲדַדben-Ha/DADBen-hadadבֶּן־חֲזָאֵלben-Cha/za/ELthe son of Hazaelכׇּל־הַיָּמִים׃kol-hay/ya/MIMall the days

   And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he delivered them into the hand of Hazael king of Syria, and into the hand of Ben-hadad the son of Hazael, all their days.

   And Jehoahaz besought the LORD, and the LORD hearkened unto him: for he saw the oppression of Israel, because the king of Syria oppressed them.

   (And the LORD gave Israel a saviour, so that they went out from under the hand of the Syrians: and the children of Israel dwelt in their tents, as beforetime.

   אַךְakhyetלֹא־סָרוּlo-SA/ruthey did not departמֵחַטֹּאתme/chat/TOTfrom the sins ofבֵּית־יָרׇבְעָםbet-Ya/rov/AMthe house of Jeroboamאֲשֶׁר־הֶחֱטִיa/SHER-he/che/TIwho made to sinאֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵלet-Yis/ra/ELIsraelבָּהּbain itהָלָךְha/LAKHhe walkedוְגַםve/GAMand alsoהָאֲשֵׁרָהha/A/she/RAthe Asherahעָמְדָהa/me/DAremained standingבְּשֹׁמְרוֹן׃be/Shom/RONin Samaria

   Nevertheless they departed not from the sins of the house of Jeroboam, who made Israel sin, but walked therein: and there remained the grove also in Samaria.)

   Neither did he leave of the people to Jehoahaz but fifty horsemen, and ten chariots, and ten thousand footmen; for the king of Syria had destroyed them, and had made them like the dust by threshing.

   Now the rest of the acts of Jehoahaz, and all that he did, and his might, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

   וַיִּשְׁכַּבvay/yish/KAVand sleptיְהוֹאָחָזYe/ho/a/CHAZJehoahazעִם־אֲבֹתָיוim-a/vo/TAYVwith his fathersוַיִּקְבְּרֻהוּvay/yik/be/RU/huand they buried himבְּשֹׁמְרוֹןbe/Shom/RONin Samariaוַיִּמְלֹךְvay/yim/LOKHand reignedיוֹאָשׁYo/ASHJoashבְּנוֹbe/NOhis sonתַּחְתָּיו׃tach/TAYVin his place

   And Jehoahaz slept with his fathers; and they buried him in Samaria: and Joash his son reigned in his stead.

    In the thirty and seventh year of Joash king of Judah began Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz to reign over Israel in Samaria, and reigned sixteen years.

    וַיַּעֲשֶׂהvay/ya/a/SEand he didהָרַעha/RAevilבְּעֵינֵיbe/e/NEin the eyes ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDלֹאlonotסָרsardid he departמִכׇּל־חַטֹּאותmik/KOL-chat/TOTfrom all the sins ofיָרׇבְעָםYa/rov/AMJeroboamבֶּן־נְבָטben-Ne/VATthe son of Nebatאֲשֶׁר־הֶחֱטִיאa/SHER-he/che/TIwho made to sinאֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵלet-Yis/ra/ELIsraelבָּהּbain itהָלָךְ׃ha/LAKHhe walked

    וַיִּשְׁכַּבvay/yish/KAVand sleptיוֹאָשׁYo/ASHJoashעִם־אֲבֹתָיוim-a/vo/TAYVwith his fathersוְיָרׇבְעָםve/Ya/rov/AMand Jeroboamיָשַׁבya/SHAVsatעַל־כִּסְאוֹal-kis/Oon his throneוַיִּקָּבֵרvay/yik/ka/VERand was buriedיוֹאָשׁYo/ASHJoashבְּשֹׁמְרוֹןbe/Shom/RONin Samariaעִםimwithמַלְכֵיmal/KHEthe kings ofיִשְׂרָאֵל׃Yis/ra/ELIsrael

    And Joash slept with his fathers; and Jeroboam sat upon his throne: and Joash was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel.

    וֶאֱלִישָׁעVe/e/li/SHAand Elishaחָלָהcha/LAhad fallen sickאֶת־חׇלְיוֹet-chol/YOhis sicknessאֲשֶׁרa/SHERof whichיָמוּתya/MUThe would dieבּוֹboin itוַיֵּרֶדvay/YE/redand went downאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himיוֹאָשׁYo/ASHJoashמֶלֶךְ־יִשְׂרָאֵלME/lekh-Yis/ra/ELthe king of Israelוַיֵּבְךְּvay/YEVKand he weptעַל־פָּנָיוal-pa/NAYVupon his faceוַיֹּאמַרvay/yo/MARand saidאָבִיa/VImy fatherאָבִיa/VImy fatherרֶכֶבRE/khevthe chariot ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelוּפָרָשָׁיו׃u/fa/ra/SHAYVand its horsemen

    Now Elisha was fallen sick of his sickness whereof he died. And Joash the king of Israel came down unto him, and wept over his face, and said, O my father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen thereof.

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidלוֹloto himאֱלִישָׁעE/li/SHAElishaקַחkachtakeקֶשֶׁתKE/sheta bowוְחִצִּיםve/chits/TSIMand arrowsוַיִּקַּחvay/yik/KACHand he tookאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himselfקֶשֶׁתKE/sheta bowוְחִצִּים׃ve/chits/TSIMand arrows

    And Elisha said unto him, Take bow and arrows. And he took unto him bow and arrows.

16. 16

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand he saidלְמֶלֶךְle/ME/lekhto the king ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelהַרְכֵּבhar/KEVputיָדְךָya/de/KHAyour handעַל־הַקֶּשֶׁתal-hak/KE/shetupon the bowוַיַּרְכֵּבvay/yar/KEVand he putיָדוֹya/DOhis handוַיָּשֶׂםvay/YA/semand laidאֱלִישָׁעE/li/SHAElishaיָדָיוya/DAYVhis handsעַל־יְדֵיal-ye/DEupon the hands ofהַמֶּלֶךְ׃ham/ME/lekhthe king

    And he said to the king of Israel, Put thine hand upon the bow. And he put his hand upon it: and Elisha put his hands upon the king's hands.

17. 17

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand he saidפְּתַחpe/TACHopenהַחַלּוֹןha/chal/LONthe windowקֵדְמָהKED/maeastwardוַיִּפְתָּחvay/yif/TACHand he opened itוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֱלִישָׁעE/li/SHAElishaיְרֵהye/REshootוַיּוֹרvay/YORand he shotוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand he saidחֵץ־תְּשׁוּעָהchets-te/shu/Athe arrow of deliveranceלַיהֹוָהla-Adonaiof the LORDוְחֵץve/CHETSand the arrow ofתְּשׁוּעָהte/shu/AdeliveranceבַאֲרָםVa/a/RAMover Aramוְהִכִּיתָve/hik/ki/TAfor you shall strikeאֶת־אֲרָםet-A/RAMAramבַּאֲפֵקba/A/FEKin Aphekעַד־כַּלֵּה׃ad-kal/LEuntil making an end

    And he said, Open the window eastward. And he opened it. Then Elisha said, Shoot. And he shot. And he said, The arrow of the LORD's deliverance, and the arrow of deliverance from Syria: for thou shalt smite the Syrians in Aphek, till thou have consumed them.

18. 18

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand he saidקַחkachtakeהַחִצִּיםha/chits/TSIMthe arrowsוַיִּקָּחvay/yik/KACHand he took themוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand he saidלְמֶלֶךְ־יִשְׂרָאֵלle/ME/lekh-yis/ra/ELto the king of Israelהַךְ־אַרְצָהhakh-AR/tsastrike on the groundוַיַּךְvay/YAKHand he struckשָׁלֹשׁ־פְּעָמִיםsha/LOSH-pe/a/MIMthree timesוַיַּעֲמֹד׃vay/ya/a/MODand stopped

    And he said, Take the arrows. And he took them. And he said unto the king of Israel, Smite upon the ground. And he smote thrice, and stayed.

19. 19

    וַיִּקְצֹףvay/yik/TSOFand was angryעָלָיוa/LAYVwith himאִישׁishthe man ofהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidלְהַכּוֹתle/hak/KOTto strikeחָמֵשׁcha/MESHfiveאוֹ־שֵׁשׁo-sheshor sixפְּעָמִיםpe/a/MIMtimesאָזazthenהִכִּיתָhik/KI/tayou would have struckאֶת־אֲרָםet-A/RAMAramעַד־כַּלֵּהad-kal/LEuntil making an endוְעַתָּהve/at/TAbut nowשָׁלֹשׁsha/LOSHthreeפְּעָמִיםpe/a/MIMtimesתַּכֶּהtak/KEyou shall strikeאֶת־אֲרָם׃et-A/RAMAram

    And the man of God was wroth with him, and said, Thou shouldest have smitten five or six times; then hadst thou smitten Syria till thou hadst consumed it: whereas now thou shalt smite Syria but thrice.

    וַיָּמׇתvay/YA/motand he diedאֱלִישָׁעE/li/SHAElishaוַיִּקְבְּרֻהוּvay/yik/be/RU/huand they buried himוּגְדוּדֵיu/ge/du/DEand the raiding bands ofמוֹאָבMo/AVMoabיָבֹאוּya/VO/uwould invadeבָאָרֶץva/A/retsthe landבָּאbaat the coming ofשָׁנָה׃sha/NAthe year

    And Elisha died, and they buried him. And the bands of the Moabites invaded the land at the coming in of the year.

21. 21

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passהֵםhemtheyקֹבְרִיםkov/RIMwere buryingאִישׁisha manוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdרָאוּra/Uthey sawאֶת־הַגְּדוּדet-hag/ge/DUDthe raiding bandוַיַּשְׁלִיכוּvay/yash/LI/khuand they castאֶת־הָאִישׁet-ha/ISHthe manבְּקֶבֶרbe/KE/verinto the tomb ofאֱלִישָׁעE/li/SHAElishaוַיֵּלֶךְvay/YE/lekhand wentוַיִּגַּעvay/yig/GAand touchedהָאִישׁha/ISHthe manבְּעַצְמוֹתbe/ats/MOTwith the bones ofאֱלִישָׁעE/li/SHAElishaוַיְחִיvay/CHIand he revivedוַיָּקׇםvay/YA/komand he aroseעַל־רַגְלָיו׃al-rag/LAYVupon his feet

    And it came to pass, as they were burying a man, that, behold, they spied a band of men; and they cast the man into the sepulchre of Elisha: and when the man was let down, and touched the bones of Elisha, he revived, and stood up on his feet.

22. 22

    וַחֲזָאֵלva/Cha/za/ELand HazaelמֶלֶךְME/lekhthe king ofאֲרָםA/RAMAramלָחַץla/CHATSoppressedאֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵלet-Yis/ra/ELIsraelכֹּלkolallיְמֵיye/MEthe days ofיְהוֹאָחָז׃Ye/ho/a/CHAZJehoahaz

    But Hazael king of Syria oppressed Israel all the days of Jehoahaz.

23. 23

    וַיָּחׇןvay/ya/CHONand was graciousיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֹתָםo/TAMto themוַיְרַחֲמֵםvay/ra/cha/MEMand he had compassion on themוַיִּפֶןvay/YI/fenand he turnedאֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMto themלְמַעַןle/MA/anbecause ofבְּרִיתוֹbe/ri/TOHis covenantאֶת־אַבְרָהָםet-Av/ra/HAMwith AbrahamיִצְחָקYits/CHAKIsaacוְיַעֲקֹבve/Ya/a/KOVand Jacobוְלֹאve/LOand notאָבָהa/VAwas He willingהַשְׁחִיתָםhash/chi/TAMto destroy themוְלֹא־הִשְׁלִיכָםve/LO-hish/li/KHAMnor has He cast themמֵעַל־פָּנָיוme/AL-pa/NAYVfrom His presenceעַד־עָתָּה׃ad-AT/tauntil now

    And the LORD was gracious unto them, and had compassion on them, and had respect unto them, because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and would not destroy them, neither cast he them from his presence as yet.

    וַיָּמׇתvay/YA/motand he diedחֲזָאֵלCha/za/ELHazaelמֶלֶךְ־אֲרָםME/lekh-A/RAMthe king of Aramוַיִּמְלֹךְvay/yim/LOKHand reignedבֶּן־הֲדַדben-Ha/DADBen-hadadבְּנוֹbe/NOhis sonתַּחְתָּיו׃tach/TAYVin his place

    So Hazael king of Syria died; and Ben-hadad his son reigned in his stead.

25. 25

    וַיָּשׇׁבvay/YA/shovand againיְהוֹאָשׁYe/ho/ASHJehoashבֶּן־יְהוֹאָחָזben-Ye/ho/a/CHAZthe son of Jehoahazוַיִּקַּחvay/yik/KACHtookאֶת־הֶעָרִיםet-he/a/RIMthe citiesמִיַּדmiy/YADfrom the hand ofבֶּן־הֲדַדben-Ha/DADBen-hadadבֶּן־חֲזָאֵלben-Cha/za/ELthe son of Hazaelאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichלָקַחla/KACHhe had takenמִיַּדmiy/YADfrom the hand ofיְהוֹאָחָזYe/ho/a/CHAZJehoahazאָבִיוa/VIVhis fatherבַּמִּלְחָמָהbam/mil/cha/MAin warשָׁלֹשׁsha/LOSHthreeפְּעָמִיםpe/a/MIMtimesהִכָּהוּhik/KA/hustruck himיוֹאָשׁYo/ASHJoashוַיָּשֶׁבvay/YA/shevand recoveredאֶת־עָרֵיet-a/REthe cities ofיִשְׂרָאֵל׃Yis/ra/ELIsrael

    And Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz took again out of the hand of Ben-hadad the son of Hazael the cities, which he had taken out of the hand of Jehoahaz his father by war. Three times did Joash beat him, and recovered the cities of Israel.
