   בֶּן־שֶׁבַעson of sevenשָׁנִיםyearsיְהוֹאָשׁJehoashבְּמׇלְכוֹ׃when he began to reign

   Seven years old was Jehoash when he began to reign.

2. 2

   בִּשְׁנַת־שֶׁבַעin the year of sevenלְיֵהוּאof Jehuמָלַךְhas become kingיְהוֹאָשׁJehoashוְאַרְבָּעִיםand fortyשָׁנָהyearsמָלַךְhas become kingבִּירוּשָׁלָ͏ִםin Jerusalemוְשֵׁםand the name ofאִמּוֹhis motherצִבְיָהZibiahמִבְּאֵרfrom Beer-שָׁבַע׃sheba

   In the seventh year of Jehu Jehoash began to reign; and forty years reigned he in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Zibiah of Beer-sheba.

   וַיַּעַשׂand he didיְהוֹאָשׁJehoashהַיָּשָׁרthe rightבְּעֵינֵיin the eyes ofיְהֹוָהthe LORDכׇּל־יָמָיוall his daysאֲשֶׁרwhichהוֹרָהוּhe instructed himיְהוֹיָדָעJehoiadaהַכֹּהֵן׃the priest

   And Jehoash did that which was right in the sight of the LORD all his days wherein Jehoiada the priest instructed him.

4. 4

   רַקonlyהַבָּמוֹתthe high placesלֹא־סָרוּnot were taken awayעוֹדany moreהָעָםthe peopleמְזַבְּחִיםwere sacrificingוּמְקַטְּרִיםand burningבַּבָּמוֹת׃at the high places

   But the high places were not taken away: the people still sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places.

   וַיֹּאמֶרand saidיְהוֹאָשׁJehoashאֶל־הַכֹּהֲנִיםto the priestsכֹּלallכֶּסֶףmoneyהַקֳּדָשִׁיםthe holy thingsאֲשֶׁר־יוּבָאwhich it shall be broughtבֵית־יְהֹוָהhouse of the LORDכֶּסֶףmoneyעוֹבֵרpassing alongאִישׁa manכֶּסֶףmoneyנַפְשׁוֹתsouls ofעֶרְכּוֹhis assessmentכׇּל־כֶּסֶףall moneyאֲשֶׁרwhichיַעֲלֶהcomesעַלuponלֶב־אִישׁthe heart of man ofלְהָבִיאto bring aboutבֵּיתthe house ofיְהֹוָה׃the LORD

   And Jehoash said to the priests, All the money of the dedicated things that is brought into the house of the LORD, even the money of every one that passeth the account, the money that every man is set at, and all the money that cometh into any man's heart to bring into the house of the LORD,

   יִקְחוּmay takeלָהֶםto themהַכֹּהֲנִיםthe priestsאִישׁa manמֵאֵתfromמַכָּרוֹhis acquaintanceוְהֵםand theyיְחַזְּקוּthey will repairאֶת־בֶּדֶקthe damage ofהַבַּיִתthe houseלְכֹלfor allאֲשֶׁר־יִמָּצֵאwhich foundשָׁםthereבָּדֶק׃damage

   Let the priests take it to them, every man of his acquaintance: and let them repair the breaches of the house, wheresoever any breach shall be found.

   וַיְהִיand it came to passבִּשְׁנַתin the year ofעֶשְׂרִיםtwentyוְשָׁלֹשׁand threeשָׁנָהyearsלַמֶּלֶךְthe kingיְהוֹאָשׁJehoashלֹא־חִזְּקוּnot they fortifiedהַכֹּהֲנִיםthe priestsאֶת־בֶּדֶקthe damage ofהַבָּיִת׃the house

   But it was so, that in the three and twentieth year of king Jehoash the priests had not repaired the breaches of the house.

8. 8

   וַיִּקְרָאand calledהַמֶּלֶךְthe kingיְהוֹאָשׁJehoashלִיהוֹיָדָעJehoiadaהַכֹּהֵןthe priestוְלַכֹּהֲנִיםand to the those priestsוַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֲלֵהֶםunto themמַדּוּעַwhyאֵינְכֶםyou are notמְחַזְּקִיםrepairingאֶת־בֶּדֶקthe damage ofהַבָּיִתthe houseוְעַתָּהand nowאַל־תִּקְחוּ־כֶסֶףreceive no more moneyמֵאֵתfromמַכָּרֵיכֶםyour acquaintancesכִּי־לְבֶדֶקbecause for the damage ofהַבַּיִתthe houseתִּתְּנֻהוּ׃you will give it

   Then king Jehoash called for Jehoiada the priest, and the other priests, and said unto them, Why repair ye not the breaches of the house? now therefore receive no more money of your acquaintance, but deliver it for the breaches of the house.

   וַיֵּאֹתוּand agreedהַכֹּהֲנִיםthe priestsלְבִלְתִּיto notקְחַת־כֶּסֶףto take moneyמֵאֵתfromהָעָםthe peopleוּלְבִלְתִּיand that notחַזֵּקto repairאֶת־בֶּדֶקthe damage ofהַבָּיִת׃the house

   And the priests consented to receive no more money of the people, neither to repair the breaches of the house.

10. 10

    וַיִּקַּחand tookיְהוֹיָדָעJehoiadaהַכֹּהֵןthe priestאֲרוֹןthe ark ofאֶחָדoneוַיִּקֹּבand he boredחֹרa holeבְּדַלְתּוֹin its lidוַיִּתֵּןand gaveאֹתוֹhimאֵצֶלnearהַמִּזְבֵּחַthe altar(בימין)[מִיָּמִין]from right handבְּבוֹא־אִישׁwhen comes man ofבֵּיתthe house ofיְהֹוָהthe LORDוְנָתְנוּ־שָׁמָּהand shall put thereהַכֹּהֲנִיםthe priestsשֹׁמְרֵיthe keepers ofהַסַּףthe thresholdאֶת־כׇּל־הַכֶּסֶףall the moneyהַמּוּבָאthe one which was broughtבֵית־יְהֹוָה׃house of the LORD

    But Jehoiada the priest took a chest, and bored a hole in the lid of it, and set it beside the altar, on the right side as one cometh into the house of the LORD: and the priests that kept the door put therein all the money that was brought into the house of the LORD.

11. 11

    וַיְהִיand it came to passכִּרְאוֹתָםwhen they sawכִּי־רַבbecause greatהַכֶּסֶףthe moneyבָּאָרוֹןin the arkוַיַּעַלand he ascendedסֹפֵרthe scribe ofהַמֶּלֶךְthe kingוְהַכֹּהֵןand the priestהַגָּדוֹלthe greatוַיָּצֻרוּand they tied it upוַיִּמְנוּand they countedאֶת־הַכֶּסֶףthe moneyהַנִּמְצָאthe one foundבֵית־יְהֹוָה׃house of the LORD

    And it was so, when they saw that there was much money in the chest, that the king's scribe and the high priest came up, and they put up in bags, and told the money that was found in the house of the LORD.

12. 12

    וְנָתְנוּand they shall giveאֶת־הַכֶּסֶףthe moneyהַמְתֻכָּןweighed outעַל־[יְדֵי]into the hands of(יד)עֹשֵׂיdoers ofהַמְּלָאכָהthe task(הפקדים)[הַמֻּפְקָדִים]the one who were appointedבֵּיתthe house ofיְהֹוָהthe LORDוַיּוֹצִיאֻהוּand they brought out itלְחָרָשֵׁיto the craftsmen ofהָעֵץthe woodוְלַבֹּנִיםand to the buildersהָעֹשִׂיםthose which actבֵּיתthe house ofיְהֹוָה׃the LORD

    And they gave the money, being told, into the hands of them that did the work, that had the oversight of the house of the LORD: and they laid it out to the carpenters and builders, that wrought upon the house of the LORD,

13. 13

    וְלַגֹּדְרִיםand to the masonsוּלְחֹצְבֵיand to the cutters ofהָאֶבֶןthe stoneוְלִקְנוֹתand to acquireעֵצִיםtimberוְאַבְנֵיand stones ofמַחְצֵבhewingלְחַזֵּקto strengthenאֶת־בֶּדֶקthe damage ofבֵּית־יְהֹוָהthe house of the LORDוּלְכֹלand to everyאֲשֶׁר־יֵצֵאwhich he go forthעַל־הַבַּיִתupon the houseלְחׇזְקָה׃to repair it

    And to masons, and hewers of stone, and to buy timber and hewed stone to repair the breaches of the house of the LORD, and for all that was laid out for the house to repair it.

14. 14

    אַךְbutלֹאnotיֵעָשֶׂהshall be doneבֵּיתthe house ofיְהֹוָהthe LORDסִפּוֹתbasins ofכֶּסֶףsilverמְזַמְּרוֹתsnuffersמִזְרָקוֹתbowlsחֲצֹצְרוֹתtrumpetsכׇּל־כְּלִיany tool ofזָהָבgoldוּכְלִי־כָסֶףand a vessel of silverמִן־הַכֶּסֶףfrom the silverהַמּוּבָאthe one which was broughtבֵית־יְהֹוָה׃house of the LORD

    Howbeit there were not made for the house of the LORD bowls of silver, snuffers, basons, trumpets, any vessels of gold, or vessels of silver, of the money that was brought into the house of the LORD:

15. 15

    כִּי־לְעֹשֵׂיbecause to the doers ofהַמְּלָאכָהthe taskיִתְּנֻהוּthey gave itוְחִזְּקוּ־בוֹand they repaired with itאֶת־בֵּיתhouse ofיְהֹוָה׃the LORD

    But they gave that to the workmen, and repaired therewith the house of the LORD.

16. 16

    וְלֹאand notיְחַשְּׁבוּthey settled accountsאֶת־הָאֲנָשִׁיםthe menאֲשֶׁרwhichיִתְּנוּthey should impartאֶת־הַכֶּסֶףthe moneyעַל־יָדָםupon their handלָתֵתto giveלְעֹשֵׂיto the doers ofהַמְּלָאכָהthe taskכִּיforבֶאֱמֻנָהin faithfulnessהֵםtheyעֹשִׂים׃dealt

    Moreover they reckoned not with the men, into whose hand they delivered the money to be bestowed on workmen: for they dealt faithfully.

17. 17

    כֶּסֶףmoneyאָשָׁםa guilt offeringוְכֶסֶףand the money forחַטָּאוֹתsin offeringsלֹאnotיוּבָאit shall be broughtבֵּיתthe house ofיְהֹוָהthe LORDלַכֹּהֲנִיםunto the priestsיִהְיוּ׃shall be

    The trespass money and sin money was not brought into the house of the LORD: it was the priests'.

18. 18

    אָזthenיַעֲלֶהwent upחֲזָאֵלHazaelמֶלֶךְthe king ofאֲרָםSyriaוַיִּלָּחֶםand he foughtעַל־גַּתupon Gathוַיִּלְכְּדָהּand he captured itוַיָּשֶׂםand he setחֲזָאֵלHazaelפָּנָיוhis faceלַעֲלוֹתto ascendעַל־יְרוּשָׁלָ͏ִם׃upon Jerusalem

    Then Hazael king of Syria went up, and fought against Gath, and took it: and Hazael set his face to go up to Jerusalem.

19. 19

    וַיִּקַּחand tookיְהוֹאָשׁJehoashמֶלֶךְ־יְהוּדָהking of Judahאֵת־כׇּל־הַקֳּדָשִׁיםall the holy thingsאֲשֶׁר־הִקְדִּישׁוּwhich they had consecratedיְהוֹשָׁפָטJehoshaphatוִיהוֹרָםand Jehoramוַאֲחַזְיָהוּand Ahaziahאֲבֹתָיוhis fathersמַלְכֵיthe kings ofיְהוּדָהJudahוְאֶת־קֳדָשָׁיוand his holy thingsוְאֵתandכׇּל־הַזָּהָבall the goldהַנִּמְצָאthe one foundבְּאֹצְרוֹתin the treasuries ofבֵּית־יְהֹוָהthe house of the LORDוּבֵיתand house ofהַמֶּלֶךְthe kingוַיִּשְׁלַחand sentלַחֲזָאֵלto Hazaelמֶלֶךְthe king ofאֲרָםSyriaוַיַּעַלand he ascendedמֵעַלfrom uponיְרוּשָׁלָ͏ִם׃Jerusalem

    And Jehoash king of Judah took all the hallowed things that Jehoshaphat, and Jehoram, and Ahaziah, his fathers, kings of Judah, had dedicated, and his own hallowed things, and all the gold that was found in the treasures of the house of the LORD, and in the king's house, and sent it to Hazael king of Syria: and he went away from Jerusalem.

20. 20

    וְיֶתֶרand the rest ofדִּבְרֵיthe words ofיוֹאָשׁJoashוְכׇל־אֲשֶׁרand all whichעָשָׂהhe didהֲלוֹא־הֵםis it not theyכְּתוּבִיםthere are writtenעַל־סֵפֶרin the book ofדִּבְרֵיthe words ofהַיָּמִיםthe daysלְמַלְכֵיto the kings ofיְהוּדָה׃Judah

    And the rest of the acts of Joash, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

21. 21

    וַיָּקֻמוּand they rose upעֲבָדָיוhis servantsוַיִּקְשְׁרוּ־קָשֶׁרand they conspired a conspiracyוַיַּכּוּand they struckאֶת־יוֹאָשׁJoashבֵּיתthe house ofמִלֹּאMilloהַיֹּרֵדthe one which was coming downסִלָּא׃Silla

    And his servants arose, and made a conspiracy, and slew Joash in the house of Millo, which goeth down to Silla.

22. 22

    וְיוֹזָכָרand Jozacharבֶּן־שִׁמְעָתson of Shimeathוִיהוֹזָבָדand Jehozabadבֶּן־שֹׁמֵרson of Shomerעֲבָדָיוhis servantsהִכֻּהוּthey struck down himוַיָּמֹתand he diedוַיִּקְבְּרוּand they buriedאֹתוֹhimעִם־אֲבֹתָיוwith his fathersבְּעִירin the city ofדָּוִדDavidוַיִּמְלֹךְand he did reignאֲמַצְיָהAmaziahבְנוֹhis sonתַּחְתָּיו׃in his stead

    For Jozachar the son of Shimeath, and Jehozabad the son of Shomer, his servants, smote him, and he died; and they buried him with his fathers in the city of David: and Amaziah his son reigned in his stead.
