   וַיִּפְשַׁעvay/yif/SHAand rebelledמוֹאָבMo/AVMoabבְּיִשְׂרָאֵלbe/Yis/ra/ELagainst Israelאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterמוֹתmotthe death ofאַחְאָב׃Ach/AVAhab

   Then Moab rebelled against Israel after the death of Ahab.

   And Ahaziah fell down through a lattice in his upper chamber that was in Samaria, and was sick: and he sent messengers, and said unto them, Go, enquire of Baal-zebub the god of Ekron whether I shall recover of this disease.

   But the angel of the LORD said to Elijah the Tishbite, Arise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria, and say unto them, Is it not because there is not a God in Israel, that ye go to enquire of Baal-zebub the god of Ekron?

   וְלָכֵןve/la/KHENnow thereforeכֹּה־אָמַרko-a/MARthus saysיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDהַמִּטָּהham/mit/TAthe bedאֲשֶׁר־עָלִיתָa/SHER-a/LI/tato which you have gone upשָּׁםshamthereלֹא־תֵרֵדlo-te/REDyou shall not come downמִמֶּנָּהmim/MEN/nafrom itכִּיkibutמוֹתmotdieתָּמוּתta/MUTyou shall dieוַיֵּלֶךְvay/YE/lekhand departedאֵלִיָּה׃E/liy/YAElijah

   Now therefore thus saith the LORD, Thou shalt not come down from that bed on which thou art gone up, but shalt surely die. And Elijah departed.

5. 5

   וַיָּשׁוּבוּvay/ya/SHU/vuand they returnedהַמַּלְאָכִיםham/mal/a/KHIMthe messengersאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMto themמַה־זֶּהma-zewhy is itשַׁבְתֶּם׃shav/TEMyou have returned

   And when the messengers turned back unto him, he said unto them, Why are ye now turned back?

   And they said unto him, There came a man up to meet us, and said unto us, Go, turn again unto the king that sent you, and say unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Is it not because there is not a God in Israel, that thou sendest to enquire of Baal-zebub the god of Ekron? therefore thou shalt not come down from that bed on which thou art gone up, but shalt surely die.

   וַיְדַבֵּרvay/dab/BERand he saidאֲלֵהֶםa/le/HEMto themמֶהmewhatמִשְׁפַּטmish/PATwas the manner ofהָאִישׁha/ISHthe manאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoעָלָהa/LAcame upלִקְרַאתְכֶםlik/ra/te/KHEMto meet youוַיְדַבֵּרvay/dab/BERand spokeאֲלֵיכֶםa/le/KHEMto youאֶת־הַדְּבָרִיםet-had/de/va/RIMthe wordsהָאֵלֶּה׃ha/EL/lethese

   And he said unto them, What manner of man was he which came up to meet you, and told you these words?

8. 8

   וַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himאִישׁisha manבַּעַלBA/alpossessor ofשֵׂעָרse/ARhairוְאֵזוֹרve/e/ZORand a belt ofעוֹרorleatherאָזוּרa/ZURgirdedבְּמׇתְנָיוbe/mot/NAYVabout his loinsוַיֹּאמַרvay/yo/MARand he saidאֵלִיָּהE/liy/YAElijahהַתִּשְׁבִּיhat/Tish/BIthe Tishbiteהוּא׃huit is

   And they answered him, He was an hairy man, and girt with a girdle of leather about his loins. And he said, It is Elijah the Tishbite.

   וַיִּשְׁלַחvay/yish/LACHand he sentאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himשַׂר־חֲמִשִּׁיםsar-cha/mish/SHIMa captain of fiftyוַחֲמִשָּׁיוva/cha/mish/SHAYVand his fiftyוַיַּעַלvay/YA/aland he went upאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdיֹשֵׁבyo/SHEVsittingעַל־רֹאשׁal-roshon the top ofהָהָרha/HARthe mountainוַיְדַבֵּרvay/dab/BERand spokeאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himאִישׁishO man ofהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingדִּבֶּרdib/BERhas saidרֵדָה׃RE/dacome down

   Then the king sent unto him a captain of fifty with his fifty. And he went up to him: and, behold, he sat on the top of an hill. And he spake unto him, Thou man of God, the king hath said, Come down.

    וַיַּעֲנֶהvay/ya/a/NEand answeredאֵלִיָּהוּE/liy/YA/huElijahוַיְדַבֵּרvay/dab/BERand spokeאֶל־שַׂרel-sarto the captain ofהַחֲמִשִּׁיםha/cha/mish/SHIMthe fiftyוְאִם־אִישׁve/IM-ishif a man ofאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodאָנִיA/niI amתֵּרֶדTE/redthen let come downאֵשׁeshfireמִן־הַשָּׁמַיִםmin-hash/sha/MA/yimfrom the heavensוְתֹאכַלve/to/KHALand let it consumeאֹתְךָot/KHAyouוְאֶת־חֲמִשֶּׁיךָve/ET-cha/mish/SHE/khaand your fiftyוַתֵּרֶדvat/TE/redand came downאֵשׁeshfireמִן־הַשָּׁמַיִםmin-hash/sha/MA/yimfrom the heavensוַתֹּאכַלvat/TO/khaland it consumedאֹתוֹo/TOhimוְאֶת־חֲמִשָּׁיו׃ve/ET-cha/mish/SHAYVand his fifty

    And Elijah answered and said to the captain of fifty, If I be a man of God, then let fire come down from heaven, and consume thee and thy fifty. And there came down fire from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty.

    וַיָּשׇׁבvay/YA/shovand againוַיִּשְׁלַחvay/yish/LACHand sentאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himשַׂר־חֲמִשִּׁיםsar-cha/mish/SHIMa captain of fiftyאַחֵרa/CHERanotherוַחֲמִשָּׁיוva/cha/mish/SHAYVand his fiftyוַיַּעַןvay/YA/anand he answeredוַיְדַבֵּרvay/dab/BERand spokeאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himאִישׁishO man ofהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodכֹּה־אָמַרko-a/MARthus has saidהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingמְהֵרָהme/he/RAquicklyרֵדָה׃RE/dacome down

    Again also he sent unto him another captain of fifty with his fifty. And he answered and said unto him, O man of God, thus hath the king said, Come down quickly.

    וַיַּעַןvay/YA/anand he answeredאֵלִיָּהE/liy/YAElijahוַיְדַבֵּרvay/dab/BERand spokeאֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMto themאִם־אִישׁim-ishif a man ofהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodאָנִיA/niI amתֵּרֶדTE/redlet come downאֵשׁeshfireמִן־הַשָּׁמַיִםmin-hash/sha/MA/yimfrom the heavensוְתֹאכַלve/to/KHALand let it consumeאֹתְךָot/KHAyouוְאֶת־חֲמִשֶּׁיךָve/ET-cha/mish/SHE/khaand your fiftyוַתֵּרֶדvat/TE/redand came downאֵשׁ־אֱלֹהִיםesh-e/lo/HIMthe fire of Godמִן־הַשָּׁמַיִםmin-hash/sha/MA/yimfrom the heavensוַתֹּאכַלvat/TO/khaland it consumedאֹתוֹo/TOhimוְאֶת־חֲמִשָּׁיו׃ve/ET-cha/mish/SHAYVand his fifty

    And Elijah answered and said unto them, If I be a man of God, let fire come down from heaven, and consume thee and thy fifty. And the fire of God came down from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty.

    וַיָּשׇׁבvay/YA/shovand againוַיִּשְׁלַחvay/yish/LACHand sentשַׂר־חֲמִשִּׁיםsar-cha/mish/SHIMa captain of fiftyשְׁלִשִׁיםshe/li/SHIMa thirdוַחֲמִשָּׁיוva/cha/mish/SHAYVand his fiftyוַיַּעַלvay/YA/aland went upוַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand cameשַׂר־הַחֲמִשִּׁיםsar-ha/cha/mish/SHIMthe captain of fiftyהַשְּׁלִישִׁיhash/she/li/SHIthe thirdוַיִּכְרַעvay/yikh/RAand bowedעַל־בִּרְכָּיוal-bir/KAYVupon his kneesלְנֶגֶדle/NE/gedbeforeאֵלִיָּהוּE/liy/YA/huElijahוַיִּתְחַנֵּןvay/yit/chan/NENand he pleadedאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himוַיְדַבֵּרvay/dab/BERand spokeאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himאִישׁishO man ofהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodתִּיקַר־נָאti/KAR-nalet be precious pleaseנַפְשִׁיnaf/SHImy lifeוְנֶפֶשׁve/NE/feshand the life ofעֲבָדֶיךָa/va/DE/khayour servantsאֵלֶּהEL/letheseחֲמִשִּׁיםcha/mish/SHIMfiftyבְּעֵינֶיךָ׃be/e/NE/khain your eyes

    And he sent again a captain of the third fifty with his fifty. And the third captain of fifty went up, and came and fell on his knees before Elijah, and besought him, and said unto him, O man of God, I pray thee, let my life, and the life of these fifty thy servants, be precious in thy sight.

14. 14

    הִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdיָרְדָהYAR/dacame downאֵשׁeshfireמִן־הַשָּׁמַיִםmin-hash/sha/MA/yimfrom the heavensוַתֹּאכַלvat/TO/khaland it consumedאֶת־שְׁנֵיet-she/NEthe twoשָׂרֵיsa/REcaptains ofהַחֲמִשִּׁיםha/cha/mish/SHIMthe fiftiesהָרִאשֹׁנִיםha/ri/sho/NIMformerוְאֶת־חֲמִשֵּׁיהֶםve/ET-cha/mish/she/HEMand their fiftiesוְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowתִּיקַרti/KARlet be preciousנַפְשִׁיnaf/SHImy lifeבְּעֵינֶיךָ׃be/e/NE/khain your eyes

    Behold, there came fire down from heaven, and burnt up the two captains of the former fifties with their fifties: therefore let my life now be precious in thy sight.

15. 15

    וַיְדַבֵּרvay/dab/BERand spokeמַלְאַךְmal/AKHthe angel ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֶל־אֵלִיָּהוּel-E/liy/YA/huto Elijahרֵדredgo downאוֹתוֹo/TOwith himאַל־תִּירָאal-ti/RAbe not afraidמִפָּנָיוmip/pa/NAYVof himוַיָּקׇםvay/YA/komand he aroseוַיֵּרֶדvay/YE/redand went downאוֹתוֹo/TOwith himאֶל־הַמֶּלֶךְ׃el-ham/ME/lekhto the king

    And the angel of the LORD said unto Elijah, Go down with him: be not afraid of him. And he arose, and went down with him unto the king.

    וַיְדַבֵּרvay/dab/BERand spokeאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himכֹּה־אָמַרko-a/MARthus saysיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDיַעַןYA/anbecauseאֲשֶׁר־שָׁלַחְתָּa/SHER-sha/LACH/tathat you have sentמַלְאָכִיםmal/a/KHIMmessengersלִדְרֹשׁlid/ROSHto inquireבְּבַעַלbe/VA/alof Baal-זְבוּבze/VUVzebubאֱלֹהֵיe/lo/HEthe god ofעֶקְרוֹןEk/RONEkronהֲמִבְּלִיha/mib/be/LIis it becauseאֵין־אֱלֹהִיםen-e/lo/HIMthere is no Godבְּיִשְׂרָאֵלbe/Yis/ra/ELin Israelלִדְרֹשׁlid/ROSHto inquireבִּדְבָרוֹbid/va/ROof His wordלָכֵןla/KHENthereforeהַמִּטָּהham/mit/TAthe bedאֲשֶׁר־עָלִיתָa/SHER-a/LI/tato which you have gone upשָּׁםshamthereלֹא־תֵרֵדlo-te/REDyou shall not come downמִמֶּנָּהmim/MEN/nafrom itכִּי־מוֹתki-motbut dieתָּמוּת׃ta/MUTyou shall die

    And he said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Forasmuch as thou hast sent messengers to enquire of Baal-zebub the god of Ekron, is it not because there is no God in Israel to enquire of his word? therefore thou shalt not come down off that bed on which thou art gone up, but shalt surely die.

    וַיָּמׇתvay/YA/motand he diedכִּדְבַרkid/VARaccording to the word ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֲשֶׁר־דִּבֶּרa/SHER-dib/BERthat had spokenאֵלִיָּהוּE/liy/YA/huElijahוַיִּמְלֹךְvay/yim/LOKHand reignedיְהוֹרָםYe/ho/RAMJehoramתַּחְתָּיוtach/TAYVin his placeבִּשְׁנַתbish/NATin the year ofשְׁתַּיִםSHTA/yimtwoלִיהוֹרָםlI/ho/RAMof Jehoramבֶּן־יְהוֹשָׁפָטben-Ye/ho/sha/FATthe son of JehoshaphatמֶלֶךְME/lekhking ofיְהוּדָהYe/hu/DAJudahכִּיkibecauseלֹא־הָיָהlo-ha/YAthere was notלוֹloto himבֵּן׃bena son

    So he died according to the word of the LORD which Elijah had spoken. And Jehoram reigned in his stead in the second year of Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat king of Judah; because he had no son.

    וְיֶתֶרve/YE/terand the rest ofדִּבְרֵיdiv/REthe acts ofאֲחַזְיָהוּA/chaz/YA/huAhaziahאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatעָשָׂהa/SAhe didהֲלוֹא־הֵמָּהha/LO-HEM/maare they notכְתוּבִיםkhe/tu/VIMwrittenעַל־סֵפֶרal-SE/ferin the book ofדִּבְרֵיdiv/REthe events ofהַיָּמִיםhay/ya/MIMthe daysלְמַלְכֵיle/mal/KHEof the kings ofיִשְׂרָאֵל׃Yis/ra/ELIsrael

    Now the rest of the acts of Ahaziah which he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
