1. 1

   After these things, and the establishment thereof, Sennacherib king of Assyria came, and entered into Judah, and encamped against the fenced cities, and thought to win them for himself.

   וַיַּרְאand sawיְחִזְקִיָּהוּHezekiahכִּי־בָאthat cameסַנְחֵרִיבSennacheribוּפָנָיוand his face was setלַמִּלְחָמָהto the warעַל־יְרוּשָׁלָ͏ִם׃upon Jerusalem

   And when Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib was come, and that he was purposed to fight against Jerusalem,

   וַיִּוָּעַץand took counselעִם־שָׂרָיוwith his captainsוְגִבֹּרָיוand his mighty menלִסְתּוֹםto stop upאֶת־מֵימֵיthe waters ofהָעֲיָנוֹתthe springsאֲשֶׁרwhichמִחוּץwithoutלָעִירto the city ofוַיַּעְזְרוּהוּ׃and they helped him

   He took counsel with his princes and his mighty men to stop the waters of the fountains which were without the city: and they did help him.

4. 4

   וַיִּקָּבְצוּand gathered themselvesעַם־רָבa great peopleוַיִּסְתְּמוּand they stopped upאֶת־כׇּל־הַמַּעְיָנוֹתall the springsוְאֶת־הַנַּחַלand the riverהַשּׁוֹטֵףthe overflowingבְּתוֹךְ־הָאָרֶץthrough the midst of the landלֵאמֹרsayingלָמָּהwhyיָבוֹאוּcome to passמַלְכֵיkings ofאַשּׁוּרAssyriaוּמָצְאוּand they will findמַיִםwaterרַבִּים׃many

   So there was gathered much people together, who stopped all the fountains, and the brook that ran through the midst of the land, saying, Why should the kings of Assyria come, and find much water?

   וַיִּתְחַזַּקand he strengthened himselfוַיִּבֶןand builtאֶת־כׇּל־הַחוֹמָהall the wallהַפְּרוּצָהthe one which was broken downוַיַּעַלand he ascendedעַל־הַמִּגְדָּלוֹתupon the towersוְלַחוּצָהand to the outsideהַחוֹמָהthe wallאַחֶרֶתany otherוַיְחַזֵּקand he strengthenedאֶת־הַמִּלּוֹאthe Milloעִירthe city ofדָּוִידDavidוַיַּעַשׂand he madeשֶׁלַחweaponsלָרֹבin abundanceוּמָגִנִּים׃and shields

   Also he strengthened himself, and built up all the wall that was broken, and raised it up to the towers, and another wall without, and repaired Millo in the city of David, and made darts and shields in abundance.

   וַיִּתֵּןand gaveשָׂרֵיcaptains ofמִלְחָמוֹתof warעַל־הָעָםover the peopleוַיִּקְבְּצֵםand he assembled themאֵלָיוfor himselfאֶל־רְחוֹבto the street ofשַׁעַרthe gate ofהָעִירthe cityוַיְדַבֵּרand spokeעַל־לְבָבָםupon their heartsלֵאמֹר׃saying

   And he set captains of war over the people, and gathered them together to him in the street of the gate of the city, and spake comfortably to them, saying,

   חִזְקוּbe strongוְאִמְצוּand be courageousאַל־תִּירְאוּfear notוְאַל־תֵּחַתּוּand do not you be dismayedמִפְּנֵיbecause ofמֶלֶךְthe king ofאַשּׁוּרAssyriaוּמִלִּפְנֵיand from beforeכׇּל־הֶהָמוֹןall the multitudeאֲשֶׁר־עִמּוֹwhich with himכִּי־עִמָּנוּbecause with usרַבgreatמֵעִמּוֹ׃from with him

   Be strong and courageous, be not afraid nor dismayed for the king of Assyria, nor for all the multitude that is with him: for there be more with us than with him:

   עִמּוֹwith himזְרוֹעַthe arm ofבָּשָׂרthe fleshוְעִמָּנוּand is with usיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהֵינוּour Godלְעׇזְרֵנוּfor help usוּלְהִלָּחֵםand fightמִלְחֲמֹתֵנוּour battlesוַיִּסָּמְכוּand supported themselvesהָעָםthe peopleעַל־דִּבְרֵיupon the words ofיְחִזְקִיָּהוּHezekiahמֶלֶךְ־יְהוּדָה׃king of Judah

   With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the LORD our God to help us, and to fight our battles. And the people rested themselves upon the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.

   אַחַרafterזֶהthisשָׁלַחsentסַנְחֵרִיבSennacheribמֶלֶךְ־אַשּׁוּרthe king of Assyriaעֲבָדָיוhis servantsיְרוּשָׁלַיְמָהto Jerusalemוְהוּאand heעַל־לָכִישׁupon Lachishוְכׇל־מֶמְשַׁלְתּוֹand all his powerעִמּוֹwith himעַל־יְחִזְקִיָּהוּupon Hezekiahמֶלֶךְthe king ofיְהוּדָהJudahוְעַל־כׇּל־יְהוּדָהand upon all Judahאֲשֶׁרwhichבִּירוּשָׁלַ͏ִםin Jerusalemלֵאמֹר׃saying

   After this did Sennacherib king of Assyria send his servants to Jerusalem, (but he himself laid siege against Lachish, and all his power with him,) unto Hezekiah king of Judah, and unto all Judah that were at Jerusalem, saying,

    כֹּהthusאָמַרsaidסַנְחֵרִיבSennacheribמֶלֶךְthe king ofאַשּׁוּרAssyriaעַל־מָהupon whatאַתֶּםyou areבֹּטְחִיםtrustingוְיֹשְׁבִיםand sittingבְּמָצוֹרin the siegeבִּירוּשָׁלָ͏ִם׃in Jerusalem

    Thus saith Sennacherib king of Assyria, Whereon do ye trust, that ye abide in the siege in Jerusalem?

11. 11

    הֲלֹאis it notיְחִזְקִיָּהוּHezekiahמַסִּיתone who incitesאֶתְכֶםyouלָתֵתto giveאֶתְכֶםyouלָמוּתto dieבְּרָעָבby famineוּבְצָמָאand in thirstלֵאמֹרsayingיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהֵינוּour GodיַצִּילֵנוּHe would deliver usמִכַּףout of the hand ofמֶלֶךְthe king ofאַשּׁוּר׃Assyria

    Doth not Hezekiah persuade you to give over yourselves to die by famine and by thirst, saying, The LORD our God shall deliver us out of the hand of the king of Assyria?

12. 12

    הֲלֹא־הוּאis it not heיְחִזְקִיָּהוּHezekiahהֵסִירhe removedאֶת־בָּמֹתָיוhis high placesוְאֶת־מִזְבְּחֹתָיוand his altarsוַיֹּאמֶרand saidלִיהוּדָהto Judahוְלִירוּשָׁלַ͏ִםand to Jerusalemלֵאמֹרsayingלִפְנֵיbeforeמִזְבֵּחַan altarאֶחָדoneתִּשְׁתַּחֲווּyou shall bow downוְעָלָיוand upon itתַּקְטִירוּ׃you will burn

    Hath not the same Hezekiah taken away his high places and his altars, and commanded Judah and Jerusalem, saying, Ye shall worship before one altar, and burn incense upon it?

13. 13

    הֲלֹאis it notתֵדְעוּyou knowמֶהwhatעָשִׂיתִיI madeאֲנִיIוַאֲבוֹתַיand my fathersלְכֹלfor allעַמֵּיthe peoples ofהָאֲרָצוֹתthe landsהֲיָכוֹלis it ableיָכְלוּcould theyאֱלֹהֵיthe gods ofגּוֹיֵthe nations ofהָאֲרָצוֹתthe landsלְהַצִּילto deliverאֶת־אַרְצָםtheir own landמִיָּדִי׃at my hand

    Know ye not what I and my fathers have done unto all the people of other lands? were the gods of the nations of those lands any ways able to deliver their lands out of mine hand?

14. 14

    מִיwhoבְּכׇל־אֱלֹהֵיamong all the gods ofהַגּוֹיִםthe nationsהָאֵלֶּהtheseאֲשֶׁרwhichהֶחֱרִימוּthey totally destroyedאֲבוֹתַיmy fathersאֲשֶׁרwhichיָכוֹלableלְהַצִּילto deliverאֶת־עַמּוֹhis peopleמִיָּדִיat my handכִּיthatיוּכַלcanאֱלֹהֵיכֶםyour Godלְהַצִּילto deliverאֶתְכֶםyouמִיָּדִי׃at my hand

    Who was there among all the gods of those nations that my fathers utterly destroyed, that could deliver his people out of mine hand, that your God should be able to deliver you out of mine hand?

15. 15

    וְעַתָּהand nowאַל־יַשִּׁיאdo not he deceiveאֶתְכֶםyouחִזְקִיָּהוּHezekiahוְאַל־יַסִּיתand do not he misleadsאֶתְכֶםyouכָּזֹאתsuchוְאַל־תַּאֲמִינוּand do not you believeלוֹto himכִּי־לֹאthat notיוּכַלcanכׇּל־אֱלוֹהַּany godכׇּל־גּוֹיall nationוּמַמְלָכָהand a kingdomלְהַצִּילto deliverעַמּוֹhis peopleמִיָּדִיat my handוּמִיַּדor out of the hands ofאֲבוֹתָיmy fathersאַףmoreoverכִּיforאֱלֹהֵיכֶםyour Godלֹא־יַצִּילוּnot they will rescueאֶתְכֶםyouמִיָּדִי׃at my hand

    Now therefore let not Hezekiah deceive you, nor persuade you on this manner, neither yet believe him: for no god of any nation or kingdom was able to deliver his people out of mine hand, and out of the hand of my fathers: how much less shall your God deliver you out of mine hand?

16. 16

    וְעוֹדand againדִּבְּרוּhave spokenעֲבָדָיוhis servantsעַל־יְהֹוָהupon the LORDהָאֱלֹהִיםthe Godוְעַלand uponיְחִזְקִיָּהוּHezekiahעַבְדּוֹ׃His servant

    And his servants spake yet more against the LORD God, and against his servant Hezekiah.

17. 17

    וּסְפָרִיםand lettersכָּתַבhe wroteלְחָרֵףto defyלַיהֹוָהto the LORDאֱלֹהֵיthe God ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelוְלֵאמֹרand to sayעָלָיוupon himלֵאמֹרsayingכֵּאלֹהֵיlike the gods ofגּוֹיֵיnations ofהָאֲרָצוֹתthe landsאֲשֶׁרwhichלֹא־הִצִּילוּnot have they deliveredעַמָּםtheir peopleמִיָּדִיat my handכֵּןthusלֹא־יַצִּילnot shall deliverאֱלֹהֵיthe God ofיְחִזְקִיָּהוּHezekiahעַמּוֹhis peopleמִיָּדִי׃at my hand

    He wrote also letters to rail on the LORD God of Israel, and to speak against him, saying, As the gods of the nations of other lands have not delivered their people out of mine hand, so shall not the God of Hezekiah deliver his people out of mine hand.

18. 18

    וַיִּקְרְאוּand they calledבְקוֹל־גָּדוֹלwith a voice greatיְהוּדִיתJudeanעַל־עַםover people ofיְרוּשָׁלַ͏ִםJerusalemאֲשֶׁרwhichעַל־הַחוֹמָהupon the wallלְיָרְאָםto make afraid themוּלְבַהֲלָםand to terrify themלְמַעַןin order thatיִלְכְּדוּthey shall captureאֶת־הָעִיר׃the city

    Then they cried with a loud voice in the Jews' speech unto the people of Jerusalem that were on the wall, to affright them, and to trouble them; that they might take the city.

19. 19

    וַיְדַבְּרוּand spokeאֶל־אֱלֹהֵיagainst the God ofיְרוּשָׁלָ͏ִםJerusalemכְּעַלas onאֱלֹהֵיthe gods ofעַמֵּיthe peoples ofהָאָרֶץthe earthמַעֲשֵׂהwork ofיְדֵיhands ofהָאָדָם׃the man

    And they spake against the God of Jerusalem, as against the gods of the people of the earth, which were the work of the hands of man.

20. 20

    וַיִּתְפַּלֵּלand he prayedיְחִזְקִיָּהוּHezekiahהַמֶּלֶךְthe kingוִישַׁעְיָהוּand Jeshaiahבֶן־אָמוֹץson of Amozהַנָּבִיאthe prophetעַל־זֹאתupon thisוַיִּזְעֲקוּand they did cryהַשָּׁמָיִם׃to heaven

    And for this cause Hezekiah the king, and the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz, prayed and cried to heaven.

21. 21

    וַיִּשְׁלַחand sentיְהֹוָהthe LORDמַלְאָךְan angelוַיַּכְחֵדand cut offכׇּל־גִּבּוֹרall mightyחַיִלof valorוְנָגִידand officerוְשָׂרand commanderבְּמַחֲנֵהin the camp ofמֶלֶךְthe king ofאַשּׁוּרAssyriaוַיָּשׇׁבand he returnedבְּבֹשֶׁתin shameפָּנִיםfaceלְאַרְצוֹto his own landוַיָּבֹאand cameבֵּיתthe house ofאֱלֹהָיוhis God[וּמִיצִיאֵי]and some of the offspring ofמֵעָיוhis bowelsשָׁםthereהִפִּילֻהוּthey made fall himבֶחָרֶב׃by the sword

    And the LORD sent an angel, which cut off all the mighty men of valour, and the leaders and captains in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. And when he was come into the house of his god, they that came forth of his own bowels slew him there with the sword.

22. 22

    וַיּוֹשַׁעand deliveredיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֶת־יְחִזְקִיָּהוּHezekiahוְאֵתandיֹשְׁבֵיinhabitants ofיְרוּשָׁלַ͏ִםJerusalemמִיַּדfrom the hand ofסַנְחֵרִיבSennacheribמֶלֶךְ־אַשּׁוּרthe king of Assyriaוּמִיַּד־כֹּלor out of the hands of allוַיְנַהֲלֵםand guided themמִסָּבִיב׃all around

    Thus the LORD saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib the king of Assyria, and from the hand of all other, and guided them on every side.

23. 23

    וְרַבִּיםand manyמְבִיאִיםwere bringingמִנְחָהa grain offeringלַיהֹוָהto the LORDלִירוּשָׁלַ͏ִםto Jerusalemוּמִגְדָּנוֹתand excellent thingsלִיחִזְקִיָּהוּto Hezekiahמֶלֶךְthe king ofיְהוּדָהJudahוַיִּנַּשֵּׂאand he was lifted upלְעֵינֵיin the eyes ofכׇל־הַגּוֹיִםall the nationsמֵאַחֲרֵי־כֵן׃from thenceforth

    And many brought gifts unto the LORD to Jerusalem, and presents to Hezekiah king of Judah: so that he was magnified in the sight of all nations from thenceforth.

24. 24

    בַּיָּמִיםin the daysהָהֵםthoseחָלָהhe became sickיְחִזְקִיָּהוּHezekiahעַד־לָמוּתuntil to perishוַיִּתְפַּלֵּלand he prayedאֶל־יְהֹוָהto the LORDוַיֹּאמֶרand saidלוֹto himוּמוֹפֵתand a miracleנָתַןgaveלוֹ׃to him

    In those days Hezekiah was sick to the death, and prayed unto the LORD: and he spake unto him, and he gave him a sign.

25. 25

    וְלֹא־כִגְמֻלand not according to the benefitעָלָיוupon himהֵשִׁיבhe restoredיְחִזְקִיָּהוּHezekiahכִּיforגָבַהּit was haughtyלִבּוֹhis heartוַיְהִיand it came to passעָלָיוupon himקֶצֶףwrathוְעַל־יְהוּדָהand upon Judahוִירוּשָׁלָ͏ִם׃and Jerusalem

    But Hezekiah rendered not again according to the benefit done unto him; for his heart was lifted up: therefore there was wrath upon him, and upon Judah and Jerusalem.

26. 26

    וַיִּכָּנַעand it was subduedיְחִזְקִיָּהוּHezekiahבְּגֹבַהּin the haughtiness ofלִבּוֹhis heartהוּאheוְיוֹשְׁבֵיand the inhabitants ofיְרוּשָׁלָ͏ִםJerusalemוְלֹא־בָאand not cameעֲלֵיהֶםupon themקֶצֶףthe wrath ofיְהֹוָהthe LORDבִּימֵיin the days ofיְחִזְקִיָּהוּ׃Hezekiah

    Notwithstanding Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart, both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of the LORD came not upon them in the days of Hezekiah.

27. 27

    וַיְהִיand it came to passלִיחִזְקִיָּהוּto Hezekiahעֹשֶׁרrichesוְכָבוֹדand gloryהַרְבֵּהmuchמְאֹדexceedinglyוְאֹצָרוֹתand treasuriesעָשָׂה־לוֹhe made himselfלְכֶסֶףto silverוּלְזָהָבand for goldוּלְאֶבֶןbut for a stone ofיְקָרָהpreciousוְלִבְשָׂמִיםand for spicesוּלְמָגִנִּיםand for shieldsוּלְכֹלand to everyכְּלֵיvessels ofחֶמְדָּה׃delight

    And Hezekiah had exceeding much riches and honour: and he made himself treasuries for silver, and for gold, and for precious stones, and for spices, and for shields, and for all manner of pleasant jewels;

28. 28

    וּמִסְכְּנוֹתand storehousesלִתְבוּאַתfor the yield ofדָּגָןgrainוְתִירוֹשׁand new wineוְיִצְהָרand fresh oilוְאֻרָוֺתand stallsלְכׇל־בְּהֵמָהto all beastוּבְהֵמָהand of beastsוַעֲדָרִיםand flocksלָאֲוֵרֹת׃for folds

    Storehouses also for the increase of corn, and wine, and oil; and stalls for all manner of beasts, and cotes for flocks.

29. 29

    וְעָרִיםand citiesעָשָׂהhe providedלוֹfor himselfוּמִקְנֵה־צֹאןand livestock of flocksוּבָקָרand herdsלָרֹבin abundanceכִּיbecauseנָתַן־לוֹgave to himאֱלֹהִיםGodרְכוּשׁthe propertyרַבgreatמְאֹד׃exceedingly

    Moreover he provided him cities, and possessions of flocks and herds in abundance: for God had given him substance very much.

30. 30

    וְהוּאand heיְחִזְקִיָּהוּHezekiahסָתַםhe stopped upאֶת־מוֹצָאthe source ofמֵימֵיthe waters ofגִיחוֹןGihonהָעֶלְיוֹןthe upperוַיַּישְּׁרֵםand he directed themלְמַטָּה־מַּעְרָבָהstraight down to the west sideלְעִירto cityדָּוִידDavidוַיַּצְלַחand he was successfulיְחִזְקִיָּהוּHezekiahבְּכׇל־מַעֲשֵׂהוּ׃in all his work

    This same Hezekiah also stopped the upper watercourse of Gihon, and brought it straight down to the west side of the city of David. And Hezekiah prospered in all his works.

31. 31

    וְכֵןand soבִּמְלִיצֵיin the envoys ofשָׂרֵיcaptains ofבָבֶלBabylonהַמְשַׁלְּחִיםwho sent to himעָלָיוupon himלִדְרֹשׁto enquire ofהַמּוֹפֵתthe wonderאֲשֶׁרwhichהָיָהwasבָאָרֶץin the landעֲזָבוֹleft himהָאֱלֹהִיםthe Godלְנַסּוֹתוֹto try himלָדַעַתto knowכׇּל־בִּלְבָבוֹ׃all in his heart

    Howbeit in the business of the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon, who sent unto him to enquire of the wonder that was done in the land, God left him, to try him, that he might know all that was in his heart.

32. 32

    וְיֶתֶרand the rest ofדִּבְרֵיthe words ofיְחִזְקִיָּהוּHezekiahוַחֲסָדָיוand his good deedsהִנָּםbehold theyכְּתוּבִיםthere are writtenבַּחֲזוֹןin a visionיְשַׁעְיָהוּIsaiahבֶן־אָמוֹץson of Amozהַנָּבִיאthe prophetעַל־סֵפֶרin the book ofמַלְכֵי־יְהוּדָהthe kings of Judahוְיִשְׂרָאֵל׃and Israel

    Now the rest of the acts of Hezekiah, and his goodness, behold, they are written in the vision of Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, and in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.

33. 33

    וַיִּשְׁכַּבand sleptיְחִזְקִיָּהוּHezekiahעִם־אֲבֹתָיוwith his fathersוַיִּקְבְּרֻהוּand they buried himבְּמַעֲלֵהon the ascent ofקִבְרֵיthe graves ofבְנֵי־דָוִידsons of Davidוְכָבוֹדand gloryעָשׂוּ־לוֹthey did to himבְמוֹתוֹat his deathכׇּל־יְהוּדָהall Judahוְיֹשְׁבֵיand the inhabitants ofיְרוּשָׁלָ͏ִםJerusalemוַיִּמְלֹךְand he did reignמְנַשֶּׁהManassehבְנוֹhis sonתַּחְתָּיו׃in his stead

    And Hezekiah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the chiefest of the sepulchres of the sons of David: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem did him honour at his death. And Manasseh his son reigned in his stead.
