   Joash was seven years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem. His mother's name also was Zibiah of Beer-sheba.

   וַיַּעַשׂvay/YA/asand he didיוֹאָשׁYo/ASHJoashהַיָּשָׁרhay/ya/SHARwhat was rightבְּעֵינֵיbe/e/NEin the eyes ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDכׇּל־יְמֵיkol-ye/MEall the days ofיְהוֹיָדָעYe/ho/ya/DAJehoiadaהַכֹּהֵן׃hak/ko/HENthe priest

   And Joash did that which was right in the sight of the LORD all the days of Jehoiada the priest.

   וַיִּשָּׂא־לוֹvay/yis/SA-loand took for himיְהוֹיָדָעYe/ho/ya/DAJehoiadaנָשִׁיםna/SHIMwivesשְׁתָּיִםSHTA/yimtwoוַיּוֹלֶדvay/YO/ledand he begatבָּנִיםba/NIMsonsוּבָנוֹת׃u/va/NOTand daughters

   And Jehoiada took for him two wives; and he begat sons and daughters.

   וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passאַחֲרֵי־כֵןa/cha/RE-khenafter thisהָיָהha/YAit wasעִם־לֵבim-levin the heart ofיוֹאָשׁYo/ASHJoashלְחַדֵּשׁle/chad/DESHto restoreאֶת־בֵּיתet-betthe house ofיְהֹוָה׃Adonaithe LORD

   And it came to pass after this, that Joash was minded to repair the house of the LORD.

   וַיִּקְבֹּץvay/yik/BOTSand he gatheredאֶת־הַכֹּהֲנִיםet-hak/ko/ha/NIMthe priestsוְהַלְוִיִּםVe/hal/viy/YIMand the Levitesוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidלָהֶםla/HEMto themצְאוּtse/Ugo outלְעָרֵיle/a/REto the cities ofיְהוּדָהYe/hu/DAJudahוְקִבְצוּve/kiv/TSUand gatherמִכׇּל־יִשְׂרָאֵלmik/KOL-yis/ra/ELfrom all IsraelכֶּסֶףKE/sefmoneyלְחַזֵּקle/chaz/ZEKto repairאֶת־בֵּיתet-betthe house ofאֱלֹהֵיכֶםe/lo/he/KHEMyour Godמִדֵּיmid/DEfromשָׁנָהsha/NAyearבְּשָׁנָהbe/sha/NAto yearוְאַתֶּםve/at/TEMand youתְּמַהֲרוּte/ma/ha/RUhastenלַדָּבָרlad/da/VARthe matterוְלֹאve/LOand notמִהֲרוּmi/ha/RUdid hastenהַלְוִיִּם׃Hal/viy/YIMthe Levites

   And he gathered together the priests and the Levites, and said to them, Go out unto the cities of Judah, and gather of all Israel money to repair the house of your God from year to year, and see that ye hasten the matter. Howbeit the Levites hastened it not.

   And the king called for Jehoiada the chief, and said unto him, Why hast thou not required of the Levites to bring in out of Judah and out of Jerusalem the collection, according to the commandment of Moses the servant of the LORD, and of the congregation of Israel, for the tabernacle of witness?

   כִּיkiforעֲתַלְיָהוּA/tal/YA/huAthaliahהַמִּרְשַׁעַתham/mir/SHA/atthat wicked womanבָּנֶיהָba/NE/haher sonsפָרְצוּfa/re/TSUhad broken intoאֶת־בֵּיתet-betthe house ofהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodוְגַםve/GAMand alsoכׇּל־קׇדְשֵׁיkol-kod/SHEall the dedicated things ofבֵית־יְהֹוָהvet-Adonaithe house of the LORDעָשׂוּa/SUthey madeלַבְּעָלִים׃lab/Be/a/LIMfor the Baalim

   For the sons of Athaliah, that wicked woman, had broken up the house of God; and also all the dedicated things of the house of the LORD did they bestow upon Baalim.

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand commandedהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingוַיַּעֲשׂוּvay/ya/a/SUand they madeאֲרוֹןa/RONa chestאֶחָדe/CHADoneוַיִּתְּנֻהוּvay/yit/te/NU/huand set itבְּשַׁעַרbe/SHA/arat the gate ofבֵּית־יְהֹוָהbet-Adonaithe house of the LORDחוּצָה׃CHU/tsaoutside

   And at the king's commandment they made a chest, and set it without at the gate of the house of the LORD.

   וַיִּתְּנוּ־קוֹלvay/yit/te/NU-koland they made a proclamationבִּיהוּדָהbI/hu/DAin Judahוּבִירוּשָׁלַ͏ִםu/Vi/ru/sha/LA/yimand in Jerusalemלְהָבִיאle/ha/VIto bringלַיהֹוָהla-Adonaito the LORDמַשְׂאַתmas/ATthe tax ofמֹשֶׁהMo/SHEMosesעֶבֶד־הָאֱלֹהִיםE/ved-ha/e/lo/HIMthe servant of Godעַל־יִשְׂרָאֵלal-Yis/ra/ELupon Israelבַּמִּדְבָּר׃bam/mid/BARin the wilderness

   And they made a proclamation through Judah and Jerusalem, to bring in to the LORD the collection that Moses the servant of God laid upon Israel in the wilderness.

    וַיִּשְׂמְחוּvay/yis/me/CHUand rejoicedכׇל־הַשָּׂרִיםkhol-has/sa/RIMall the princesוְכׇל־הָעָםve/KHOL-ha/AMand all the peopleוַיָּבִיאוּvay/ya/VI/uand broughtוַיַּשְׁלִיכוּvay/yash/LI/khuand cast intoלָאָרוֹןla/a/RONthe chestעַד־לְכַלֵּה׃ad-le/khal/LEuntil they had finished

    And all the princes and all the people rejoiced, and brought in, and cast into the chest, until they had made an end.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passבְּעֵתbe/ETat the timeיָבִיאya/VIone would bringאֶת־הָאָרוֹןet-ha/a/RONthe chestאֶל־פְּקֻדַּתel-pe/kud/DATto the office ofהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingבְּיַדbe/YADin the hand ofהַלְוִיִּםHal/viy/YIMthe Levitesוְכִרְאוֹתָםve/khir/o/TAMand when they sawכִּי־רַבki-ravthat muchהַכֶּסֶףhak/KE/sefmoney wasוּבָאu/VAcameסוֹפֵרso/FERthe scribe ofהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingוּפְקִידu/fe/KIDand the officer ofכֹּהֵןko/HENpriestהָרֹאשׁha/ROSHthe chiefוִיעָרוּvi/A/ruand emptiedאֶת־הָאָרוֹןet-ha/a/RONthe chestוְיִשָּׂאֻהוּve/yis/sa/U/huand carried itוִישִׁיבֻהוּvi/shi/VU/huand returned itאֶל־מְקֹמוֹel-me/ko/MOto its placeכֹּהkothusעָשׂוּa/SUthey didלְיוֹםle/YOMdayבְּיוֹםbe/YOMby dayוַיַּאַסְפוּ־כֶסֶףvay/ya/as/FU-KHE/sefand they gathered moneyלָרֹב׃la/ROVin abundance

    Now it came to pass, that at what time the chest was brought unto the king's office by the hand of the Levites, and when they saw that there was much money, the king's scribe and the high priest's officer came and emptied the chest, and took it, and carried it to his place again. Thus they did day by day, and gathered money in abundance.

    וַיִּתְּנֵהוּvay/yit/te/NE/huand gave itהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingוִיהוֹיָדָעVi/ho/ya/DAand Jehoiadaאֶל־עוֹשֵׂהel-o/SEto those doingמְלֶאכֶתme/LE/khetthe work ofעֲבוֹדַתa/vo/DATthe service ofבֵּית־יְהֹוָהbet-Adonaithe house of the LORDוַיִּהְיוּvay/yih/YUand they wereשֹׂכְרִיםsokh/RIMhiringחֹצְבִיםchots/VIMmasonsוְחָרָשִׁיםve/cha/ra/SHIMand craftsmenלְחַדֵּשׁle/chad/DESHto restoreבֵּיתbetthe house ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDוְגַםve/GAMand alsoלְחָרָשֵׁיle/cha/ra/SHEcraftsmen inבַרְזֶלvar/ZELironוּנְחֹשֶׁתu/ne/CHO/shetand of bronzeלְחַזֵּקle/chaz/ZEKto repairאֶת־בֵּיתet-betthe house ofיְהֹוָה׃Adonaithe LORD

    And the king and Jehoiada gave it to such as did the work of the service of the house of the LORD, and hired masons and carpenters to repair the house of the LORD, and also such as wrought iron and brass to mend the house of the LORD.

13. 13

    וַיַּעֲשׂוּvay/ya/a/SUand they didעֹשֵׂיo/SEthe doers ofהַמְּלָאכָהham/me/la/KHAthe workוַתַּעַלvat/TA/aland roseאֲרוּכָהa/ru/KHAthe restorationלַמְּלָאכָהlam/me/la/KHAfor the workבְּיָדָםbe/ya/DAMby their handוַיַּעֲמִידוּvay/ya/a/MI/duand they set upאֶת־בֵּיתet-betthe house ofהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodעַל־מַתְכֻּנְתּוֹal-mat/kun/TOaccording to its proportionוַיְאַמְּצֻהוּ׃vay/am/me/TSU/huand strengthened it

    So the workmen wrought, and the work was perfected by them, and they set the house of God in his state, and strengthened it.

14. 14

    וּכְכַלּוֹתָםu/khe/khal/lo/TAMand when they had finishedהֵבִיאוּhe/VI/uthey broughtלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingוִיהוֹיָדָעVi/ho/ya/DAand Jehoiadaאֶת־שְׁאָרet-she/ARthe rest ofהַכֶּסֶףhak/KE/sefthe moneyוַיַּעֲשֵׂהוּvay/ya/a/SE/huand they made itכֵלִיםkhe/LIMvesselsלְבֵית־יְהֹוָהle/VET-Adonaifor the house of the LORDכְּלֵיke/LEvessels ofשָׁרֵתsha/RETministryוְהַעֲלוֹתve/ha/a/LOTand for offeringוְכַפּוֹתve/khap/POTand pansוּכְלֵיu/khe/LEand vessels ofזָהָבza/HAVgoldוָכָסֶףva/KHA/sefand silverוַיִּהְיוּvay/yih/YUand they wereמַעֲלִיםma/a/LIMofferingעֹלוֹתo/LOTburnt offeringsבְּבֵית־יְהֹוָהbe/VET-Adonaiin the house of the LORDתָּמִידta/MIDcontinuallyכֹּלkolallיְמֵיye/MEthe days ofיְהוֹיָדָע׃Ye/ho/ya/DAJehoiada

    And when they had finished it, they brought the rest of the money before the king and Jehoiada, whereof were made vessels for the house of the LORD, even vessels to minister, and to offer withal, and spoons, and vessels of gold and silver. And they offered burnt offerings in the house of the LORD continually all the days of Jehoiada.

15. 15

    וַיִּזְקַןvay/yiz/KANand he grew oldיְהוֹיָדָעYe/ho/ya/DAJehoiadaוַיִּשְׂבַּעvay/yis/BAand was full ofיָמִיםya/MIMdaysוַיָּמֹתvay/ya/MOTand he diedבֶּן־מֵאָהben-me/Aa son of a hundredוּשְׁלֹשִׁיםu/she/lo/SHIMand thirtyשָׁנָהsha/NAyearsבְּמוֹתוֹ׃be/mo/TOwhen he died

    But Jehoiada waxed old, and was full of days when he died; an hundred and thirty years old was he when he died.

16. 16

    וַיִּקְבְּרֻהוּvay/yik/be/RU/huand they buried himבְעִיר־דָּוִידve/IR-da/VIDin the city of Davidעִם־הַמְּלָכִיםim-ham/me/la/KHIMwith the kingsכִּי־עָשָׂהki-a/SAfor he had doneטוֹבָהto/VAgoodבְּיִשְׂרָאֵלbe/Yis/ra/ELin Israelוְעִםve/IMand towardהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodוּבֵיתוֹ׃u/ve/TOand His house

    And they buried him in the city of David among the kings, because he had done good in Israel, both toward God, and toward his house.

17. 17

    וְאַחֲרֵיve/a/cha/REand afterמוֹתmotthe death ofיְהוֹיָדָעYe/ho/ya/DAJehoiadaבָּאוּBA/ucameשָׂרֵיsa/REthe princes ofיְהוּדָהYe/hu/DAJudahוַיִּשְׁתַּחֲווּvay/yish/ta/cha/VUand bowed downלַמֶּלֶךְlam/ME/lekhto the kingאָזazthenשָׁמַעsha/MAlistenedהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingאֲלֵיהֶם׃a/le/HEMto them

    Now after the death of Jehoiada came the princes of Judah, and made obeisance to the king. Then the king hearkened unto them.

18. 18

    וַיַּעַזְבוּvay/ya/az/VUand they forsookאֶת־בֵּיתet-betthe house ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֱלֹהֵיe/lo/HEthe God ofאֲבוֹתֵיהֶםa/vo/te/HEMtheir fathersוַיַּעַבְדוּvay/ya/av/DUand they servedאֶת־הָאֲשֵׁרִיםet-Ha/a/she/RIMthe Asherimוְאֶת־הָעֲצַבִּיםve/ET-ha/a/tsab/BIMand the idolsוַיְהִי־קֶצֶףvay/HI-KE/tsefand wrath cameעַל־יְהוּדָהal-Ye/hu/DAupon Judahוִירוּשָׁלַ͏ִםVi/ru/sha/LA/yimand Jerusalemבְּאַשְׁמָתָםbe/ash/ma/TAMbecause of their guiltזֹאת׃zotthis

    And they left the house of the LORD God of their fathers, and served groves and idols: and wrath came upon Judah and Jerusalem for this their trespass.

19. 19

    וַיִּשְׁלַחvay/yish/LACHand He sentבָּהֶםba/HEMto themנְבִאִיםne/vi/IMprophetsלַהֲשִׁיבָםla/ha/shi/VAMto bring them backאֶל־יְהֹוָהel-Adonaito the LORDוַיָּעִידוּvay/ya/I/duand they testifiedבָםvamagainst themוְלֹאve/LOand notהֶאֱזִינוּ׃he/e/ZI/nuwould they give ear

    Yet he sent prophets to them, to bring them again unto the LORD; and they testified against them: but they would not give ear.

20. 20

    וְרוּחַve/RU/achand the Spirit ofאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodלָבְשָׁהla/ve/SHAclothedאֶת־זְכַרְיָהet-Ze/khar/YAZechariahבֶּן־יְהוֹיָדָעben-Ye/ho/ya/DAthe son of Jehoiadaהַכֹּהֵןhak/ko/HENthe priestוַיַּעֲמֹדvay/ya/a/MODand stoodמֵעַלme/ALaboveלָעָםla/AMthe peopleוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidלָהֶםla/HEMto themכֹּהkothusאָמַרa/MARsaysהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodלָמָהla/MAwhyאַתֶּםat/TEMdo youעֹבְרִיםov/RIMtransgressאֶת־מִצְוֺתet-mits/VOTthe commandments ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDוְלֹאve/LOso that notתַצְלִיחוּtats/LI/chuyou can prosperכִּי־עֲזַבְתֶּםki-a/zav/TEMbecause you have forsakenאֶת־יְהֹוָהet-Adonaithe LORDוַיַּעֲזֹבvay/ya/a/ZOVand he has forsakenאֶתְכֶם׃et/KHEMyou

    And the Spirit of God came upon Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest, which stood above the people, and said unto them, Thus saith God, Why transgress ye the commandments of the LORD, that ye cannot prosper? because ye have forsaken the LORD, he hath also forsaken you.

    וַיִּקְשְׁרוּvay/yik/she/RUand they conspiredעָלָיוa/LAYVagainst himוַיִּרְגְּמֻהוּvay/yir/ge/MU/huand they stoned himאֶבֶןE/venwith stonesבְּמִצְוַתbe/mits/VATby the commandment ofהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingבַּחֲצַרba/cha/TSARin the court ofבֵּיתbetthe house ofיְהֹוָה׃Adonaithe LORD

    And they conspired against him, and stoned him with stones at the commandment of the king in the court of the house of the LORD.

22. 22

    וְלֹא־זָכַרve/LO-za/KHARthus did not rememberיוֹאָשׁYo/ASHJoashהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingהַחֶסֶדha/CHE/sedthe kindnessאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatעָשָׂהa/SAhad doneיְהוֹיָדָעYe/ho/ya/DAJehoiadaאָבִיוa/VIVhis fatherעִמּוֹim/MOwith himוַיַּהֲרֹגvay/ya/ha/ROGbut killedאֶת־בְּנוֹet-be/NOhis sonוּכְמוֹתוֹu/khe/mo/TOand as he diedאָמַרa/MARsaidיֵרֶאYE/remay seeיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDוְיִדְרֹשׁ׃ve/yid/ROSHand require

    Thus Joash the king remembered not the kindness which Jehoiada his father had done to him, but slew his son. And when he died, he said, The LORD look upon it, and require it.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passלִתְקוּפַתlit/ku/FATat the turn ofהַשָּׁנָהhash/sha/NAthe yearעָלָהa/LAcame upעָלָיוa/LAYVagainst himחֵילchelthe army ofאֲרָםA/RAMAramוַיָּבֹאוּvay/ya/VO/uand they cameאֶל־יְהוּדָהel-Ye/hu/DAto Judahוִירוּשָׁלַ͏ִםVi/ru/sha/LA/yimand Jerusalemוַיַּשְׁחִיתוּvay/yash/CHI/tuand they destroyedאֶת־כׇּל־שָׂרֵיet-kol-sa/REall the princes ofהָעָםha/AMthe peopleמֵעָםme/AMfrom among the peopleוְכׇל־שְׁלָלָםve/KHOL-she/la/LAMand all their spoilשִׁלְּחוּshil/le/CHUthey sentלְמֶלֶךְle/ME/lekhto the king ofדַּרְמָשֶׂק׃Dar/MA/sekDamascus

    And it came to pass at the end of the year, that the host of Syria came up against him: and they came to Judah and Jerusalem, and destroyed all the princes of the people from among the people, and sent all the spoil of them unto the king of Damascus.

    כִּיkiforבְמִצְעַרve/mits/ARwith a small company ofאֲנָשִׁיםa/na/SHIMmenבָּאוּBA/ucameחֵילchelthe army ofאֲרָםA/RAMAramוַיהֹוָהve-Adonaiand the LORDנָתַןna/TANgaveבְּיָדָםbe/ya/DAMinto their handsחַיִלCHA/yilan armyלָרֹבla/ROVgreatמְאֹדme/ODveryכִּיkiforעָזְבוּa/ze/VUthey had forsakenאֶת־יְהֹוָהet-Adonaithe LORDאֱלֹהֵיe/lo/HEthe God ofאֲבוֹתֵיהֶםa/vo/te/HEMtheir fathersוְאֶת־יוֹאָשׁve/ET-yo/ASHand Joashעָשׂוּa/SUthey executedשְׁפָטִים׃she/fa/TIMjudgments

    For the army of the Syrians came with a small company of men, and the LORD delivered a very great host into their hand, because they had forsaken the LORD God of their fathers. So they executed judgment against Joash.

    וּבְלֶכְתָּםu/ve/lekh/TAMand when they departedמִמֶּנּוּmim/MEN/nufrom himכִּי־עָזְבוּki-a/ze/VUfor they leftאֹתוֹo/TOhimבְּמַחֲלֻיִיםbe/ma/cha/lu/YIMin diseasesרַבִּיםrab/BIMgreatהִתְקַשְּׁרוּhit/kash/she/RUconspiredעָלָיוa/LAYVagainst himעֲבָדָיוa/va/DAYVhis servantsבִּדְמֵיbid/MEfor the blood ofבְּנֵיbe/NEthe sons ofיְהוֹיָדָעYe/ho/ya/DAJehoiadaהַכֹּהֵןhak/ko/HENthe priestוַיַּהַרְגֻהוּvay/ya/har/GU/huand killed himעַל־מִטָּתוֹal-mit/ta/TOon his bedוַיָּמֹתvay/ya/MOTand he diedוַיִּקְבְּרֻהוּvay/yik/be/RU/huand they buried himבְּעִירbe/IRin the city ofדָּוִידDa/VIDDavidוְלֹאve/LObut notקְבָרֻהוּke/va/RU/hudid they bury himבְּקִבְרוֹתbe/kiv/ROTin the tombs ofהַמְּלָכִים׃ham/me/la/KHIMthe kings

    And when they were departed from him, (for they left him in great diseases,) his own servants conspired against him for the blood of the sons of Jehoiada the priest, and slew him on his bed, and he died: and they buried him in the city of David, but they buried him not in the sepulchres of the kings.

    וּבָנָיוu/va/NAYVand his sons(ורב)varav[יִרֶב]YI/revwere multipliedהַמַּשָּׂאham/mas/SAthe burdenעָלָיוa/LAYVagainst himוִיסוֹדvi/SODand the repairing ofבֵּיתbetthe house ofהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodהִנָּםhin/NAMbehold they areכְּתוּבִיםke/tu/VIMwrittenעַל־מִדְרַשׁal-mid/RASHin the commentary ofסֵפֶרSE/ferthe book ofהַמְּלָכִיםham/me/la/KHIMthe kingsוַיִּמְלֹךְvay/yim/LOKHand reignedאֲמַצְיָהוּA/mats/YA/huAmaziahבְנוֹve/NOhis sonתַּחְתָּיו׃tach/TAYVin his place

    Now concerning his sons, and the greatness of the burdens laid upon him, and the repairing of the house of God, behold, they are written in the story of the book of the kings. And Amaziah his son reigned in his stead.
