   In the six and thirtieth year of the reign of Asa Baasha king of Israel came up against Judah, and built Ramah, to the intent that he might let none go out or come in to Asa king of Judah.

   וַיֹּצֵאvay/yo/TSEand brought outאָסָאA/SAAsaכֶּסֶףKE/sefsilverוְזָהָבve/za/HAVand goldמֵאֹצְרוֹתme/ots/ROTfrom the treasuries ofבֵּיתbetthe house ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDוּבֵיתu/VETand of the house ofהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingוַיִּשְׁלַחvay/yish/LACHand sentאֶל־בֶּן־הֲדַדel-Ben-ha/DADto Ben-hadadמֶלֶךְME/lekhking ofאֲרָםA/RAMAramהַיּוֹשֵׁבhay/yo/SHEVwho dweltבְּדַרְמֶשֶׂקbe/Dar/ME/sekin Damascusלֵאמֹר׃le/MORsaying

   Then Asa brought out silver and gold out of the treasures of the house of the LORD and of the king's house, and sent to Ben-hadad king of Syria, that dwelt at Damascus, saying,

   בְּרִיתbe/RITthere is a covenantבֵּינִיbe/NIbetween meוּבֵינֶךָu/ve/NE/khaand between youוּבֵיןu/VENand betweenאָבִיa/VImy fatherוּבֵיןu/VENand betweenאָבִיךָa/VI/khayour fatherהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdשָׁלַחְתִּיsha/LACH/tiI have sentלְךָle/KHAto youכֶּסֶףKE/sefsilverוְזָהָבve/za/HAVand goldלֵךְlekhgoהָפֵרha/FERbreakבְּרִיתְךָbe/ri/te/KHAyour covenantאֶת־בַּעְשָׁאet-Ba/SHAwith BaashaמֶלֶךְME/lekhthe king ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelוְיַעֲלֶהve/ya/a/LEthat he may withdrawמֵעָלָי׃me/a/LAYfrom me

   There is a league between me and thee, as there was between my father and thy father: behold, I have sent thee silver and gold; go, break thy league with Baasha king of Israel, that he may depart from me.

   וַיִּשְׁמַעvay/yish/MAand listenedבֶּן־הֲדַדben-Ha/DADBen-hadadאֶל־הַמֶּלֶךְel-ham/ME/lekhto kingאָסָאA/SAAsaוַיִּשְׁלַחvay/yish/LACHand sentאֶת־שָׂרֵיet-sa/REthe commanders ofהַחֲיָלִיםha/cha/ya/LIMthe armiesאֲשֶׁר־לוֹa/SHER-lothat he hadאֶל־עָרֵיel-a/REagainst the cities ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelוַיַּכּוּvay/yak/KUand they struckאֶת־עִיּוֹןet-Iy/YONIjonוְאֶת־דָּןve/ET-danand Danוְאֵתve/ETandאָבֵלA/VELAbel-מָיִםMA/yimmaimוְאֵתve/ETandכׇּל־מִסְכְּנוֹתkol-mis/ke/NOTall the storehouses ofעָרֵיa/REthe cities ofנַפְתָּלִי׃Naf/ta/LINaphtali

   And Ben-hadad hearkened unto king Asa, and sent the captains of his armies against the cities of Israel; and they smote Ijon, and Dan, and Abel-maim, and all the store cities of Naphtali.

   וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passכִּשְׁמֹעַkish/MO/awhen heardבַּעְשָׁאBa/SHABaashaוַיֶּחְדַּלvay/yech/DALthat he ceasedמִבְּנוֹתmib/be/NOTfrom buildingאֶת־הָרָמָהet-Ha/ra/MARamahוַיַּשְׁבֵּתvay/yash/BETand stoppedאֶת־מְלַאכְתּוֹ׃et-me/lakh/TOhis work

   And it came to pass, when Baasha heard it, that he left off building of Ramah, and let his work cease.

   וְאָסָאve/A/SAand Asaהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingלָקַחla/KACHtookאֶת־כׇּל־יְהוּדָהet-Kol-ye/hu/DAall Judahוַיִּשְׂאוּvay/yis/Uand they carried awayאֶת־אַבְנֵיet-av/NEthe stones ofהָרָמָהHa/ra/MARamahוְאֶת־עֵצֶיהָve/ET-e/TSE/haand its timberאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatבָּנָהba/NAhad builtבַּעְשָׁאBa/SHABaashaוַיִּבֶןvay/YI/venand he builtבָּהֶםba/HEMwith themאֶת־גֶּבַעet-GE/vaGebaוְאֶת־הַמִּצְפָּה׃ve/ET-ham/mits/PAand Mizpah

   Then Asa the king took all Judah; and they carried away the stones of Ramah, and the timber thereof, wherewith Baasha was building; and he built therewith Geba and Mizpah.

   וּבָעֵתu/va/ETand at the timeהַהִיאha/HIthatבָּאbacameחֲנָנִיCha/NA/niHananiהָרֹאֶהha/ro/Ethe seerאֶל־אָסָאel-A/SAto AsaמֶלֶךְME/lekhthe king ofיְהוּדָהYe/hu/DAJudahוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himבְּהִשָּׁעֶנְךָbe/hish/sha/en/KHAbecause you reliedעַל־מֶלֶךְal-ME/lekhon the king ofאֲרָםA/RAMAramוְלֹאve/LOand notנִשְׁעַנְתָּnish/AN/tayou reliedעַל־יְהֹוָהal-Adonaion the LORDאֱלֹהֶיךָe/lo/HE/khayour Godעַל־כֵּןal-kenthereforeנִמְלַטnim/LAThas escapedחֵילchelthe army ofמֶלֶךְ־אֲרָםME/lekh-A/RAMthe king of Aramמִיָּדֶךָ׃miy/ya/DE/khafrom your hand

   And at that time Hanani the seer came to Asa king of Judah, and said unto him, Because thou hast relied on the king of Syria, and not relied on the LORD thy God, therefore is the host of the king of Syria escaped out of thine hand.

   הֲלֹאha/LOwere notהַכּוּשִׁיםhak/Ku/SHIMthe Cushitesוְהַלּוּבִיםve/hal/Lu/VIMand the Libyansהָיוּha/YUwereלְחַיִלle/CHA/yilan armyלָרֹבla/ROVin abundanceלְרֶכֶבle/RE/khevwith chariotsוּלְפָרָשִׁיםu/le/fa/ra/SHIMand with horsemenלְהַרְבֵּהle/har/BEexceedinglyמְאֹדme/ODveryוּבְהִשָּׁעֶנְךָu/ve/hish/sha/en/KHAyet because you reliedעַל־יְהֹוָהal-Adonaion the LORDנְתָנָםne/ta/NAMHe gave themבְּיָדֶךָ׃be/ya/DE/khainto your hand

   Were not the Ethiopians and the Lubims a huge host, with very many chariots and horsemen? yet, because thou didst rely on the LORD, he delivered them into thine hand.

9. 9

   כִּיkiforיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDעֵינָיוe/NAYVHis eyesמְשֹׁטְטוֹתme/shot/TOTrun to and froבְּכׇל־הָאָרֶץbe/KHOL-ha/A/retsthroughout all the earthלְהִתְחַזֵּקle/hit/chaz/ZEKto show Himself strongעִם־לְבָבָםim-le/va/VAMwith those whose heartשָׁלֵםsha/LEMis wholeאֵלָיוe/LAYVtoward Himנִסְכַּלְתָּnis/KAL/tayou have acted foolishlyעַל־זֹאתal-zotin thisכִּיkiforמֵעַתָּהme/at/TAfrom now onיֵשׁyeshthere will beעִמְּךָim/me/KHAwith youמִלְחָמוֹת׃mil/cha/MOTwars

   For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou hast done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars.

    וַיִּכְעַסvay/yikh/ASthen was angryאָסָאA/SAAsaאֶל־הָרֹאֶהel-ha/ro/Ewith the seerוַיִּתְּנֵהוּvay/yit/te/NE/huand put himבֵּיתbetinto the house ofהַמַּהְפֶּכֶתham/mah/PE/khetthe stocksכִּי־בְזַעַףki-ve/ZA/affor in a rageעִמּוֹim/MOwith himעַל־זֹאתal-zotbecause of thisוַיְרַצֵּץvay/rats/TSETSand oppressedאָסָאA/SAAsaמִן־הָעָםmin-ha/AMsome of the peopleבָּעֵתba/ETat the timeהַהִיא׃ha/HIthat

    Then Asa was wroth with the seer, and put him in a prison house; for he was in a rage with him because of this thing. And Asa oppressed some of the people the same time.

    וְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdדִּבְרֵיdiv/REthe acts ofאָסָאA/SAAsaהָרִאשׁוֹנִיםha/ri/sho/NIMthe firstוְהָאַחֲרוֹנִיםve/ha/a/cha/ro/NIMand the lastהִנָּםhin/NAMbehold they areכְּתוּבִיםke/tu/VIMwrittenעַל־סֵפֶרal-SE/ferin the book ofהַמְּלָכִיםham/me/la/KHIMthe kings ofלִיהוּדָהLi/hu/DAJudahוְיִשְׂרָאֵל׃ve/Yis/ra/ELand Israel

    And, behold, the acts of Asa, first and last, lo, they are written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.

    וַיֶּחֱלֶאvay/ye/che/LEand was diseasedאָסָאA/SAAsaבִּשְׁנַתbish/NATin the year ofשְׁלוֹשִׁיםshe/lo/SHIMthirtyוָתֵשַׁעva/TE/shaand nineלְמַלְכוּתוֹle/mal/khu/TOof his reignבְּרַגְלָיוbe/rag/LAYVin his feetעַד־לְמַעְלָהad-le/MA/laexceedinglyחׇלְיוֹchol/YOhis diseaseוְגַם־בְּחׇלְיוֹve/GAM-be/chol/YOyet even in his diseaseלֹא־דָרַשׁlo-da/RASHhe did not seekאֶת־יְהֹוָהet-Adonaithe LORDכִּיkibutבָּרֹפְאִים׃ba/rof/IMthe physicians

    And Asa in the thirty and ninth year of his reign was diseased in his feet, until his disease was exceeding great: yet in his disease he sought not to the LORD, but to the physicians.

    וַיִּשְׁכַּבvay/yish/KAVand sleptאָסָאA/SAAsaעִם־אֲבֹתָיוim-a/vo/TAYVwith his fathersוַיָּמׇתvay/YA/motand he diedבִּשְׁנַתbish/NATin the year ofאַרְבָּעִיםar/ba/IMfortyוְאַחַתve/a/CHATand oneלְמׇלְכוֹ׃le/mol/KHOof his reign

    And Asa slept with his fathers, and died in the one and fortieth year of his reign.

    וַיִּקְבְּרֻהוּvay/yik/be/RU/huand they buried himבְקִבְרֹתָיוve/kiv/ro/TAYVin his own tombsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatכָּרָה־לוֹka/RA-lohe had hewn for himselfבְּעִירbe/IRin the city ofדָּוִידDa/VIDDavidוַיַּשְׁכִּיבֻהוּvay/yash/ki/VU/huand laid himבַּמִּשְׁכָּבbam/mish/KAVon the bedאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatמִלֵּאmil/LEwas filled withבְּשָׂמִיםbe/sa/MIMspicesוּזְנִיםu/ze/NIMand various kindsמְרֻקָּחִיםme/ruk/ka/CHIMpreparedבְּמִרְקַחַתbe/mir/KA/chatas a blend ofמַעֲשֶׂהma/a/SEworkmanshipוַיִּשְׂרְפוּ־לוֹvay/yis/re/FU-loand they burned for himשְׂרֵפָהse/re/FAa burningגְּדוֹלָהge/do/LAgreatעַד־לִמְאֹד׃ad-lim/ODexceedingly

    And they buried him in his own sepulchres, which he had made for himself in the city of David, and laid him in the bed which was filled with sweet odours and divers kinds of spices prepared by the apothecaries' art: and they made a very great burning for him.
