1. 1

   וַיִּמְלֹךְand he did reignיְהוֹשָׁפָטJehoshaphatבְּנוֹhis sonתַּחְתָּיוin his steadוַיִּתְחַזֵּקand he strengthened himselfעַל־יִשְׂרָאֵל׃upon Israel

   And Jehoshaphat his son reigned in his stead, and strengthened himself against Israel.

2. 2

   וַיִּתֶּן־חַיִלand having given him mightבְּכׇל־עָרֵיin all cities ofיְהוּדָהJudahהַבְּצֻרוֹתthe fortifiedוַיִּתֵּןand gaveנְצִיבִיםgarrisonsבְּאֶרֶץin the land ofיְהוּדָהJudahוּבְעָרֵיand in the cities ofאֶפְרַיִםEphraimאֲשֶׁרwhichלָכַדhe capturedאָסָאAsaאָבִיו׃his father

   And he placed forces in all the fenced cities of Judah, and set garrisons in the land of Judah, and in the cities of Ephraim, which Asa his father had taken.

   וַיְהִיand wasיְהֹוָהthe LORDעִם־יְהוֹשָׁפָטwith Jehoshaphatכִּיbecauseהָלַךְwentבְּדַרְכֵיin the ways ofדָּוִידDavidאָבִיוhis fatherהָרִאשֹׁנִיםthe firstוְלֹאand notדָרַשׁexactedלַבְּעָלִים׃the Baalim

   And the LORD was with Jehoshaphat, because he walked in the first ways of his father David, and sought not unto Baalim;

   כִּיbecauseלֵאלֹהֵיto God ofאָבִיוhis fatherדָּרָשׁhe soughtוּבְמִצְוֺתָיוand in His-commandmentsהָלָךְhe wentוְלֹאand notכְּמַעֲשֵׂהas the work ofיִשְׂרָאֵל׃Israel

   But sought to the Lord God of his father, and walked in his commandments, and not after the doings of Israel.

5. 5

   וַיָּכֶןand preparedיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֶת־הַמַּמְלָכָהthe kingdomבְּיָדוֹin his handוַיִּתְּנוּand they gaveכׇל־יְהוּדָהall Judahמִנְחָהa grain offeringלִיהוֹשָׁפָטof Jehoshaphatוַיְהִי־לוֹand it came to pass himעֹשֶׁר־וְכָבוֹדriches and gloryלָרֹב׃in abundance

   Therefore the LORD stablished the kingdom in his hand; and all Judah brought to Jehoshaphat presents; and he had riches and honour in abundance.

6. 6

   וַיִּגְבַּהּand he was tallלִבּוֹhis heartבְּדַרְכֵיin the ways ofיְהֹוָהthe LORDוְעוֹדand againהֵסִירhe removedאֶת־הַבָּמוֹתthe high placesוְאֶת־הָאֲשֵׁרִיםand the Asherah polesמִיהוּדָה׃from Judah

   And his heart was lifted up in the ways of the LORD: moreover he took away the high places and groves out of Judah.

7. 7

   וּבִשְׁנַתand in the year ofשָׁלוֹשׁthreeלְמׇלְכוֹof his reigningשָׁלַחhe sentלְשָׂרָיוhis officialsלְבֶן־חַיִלto Ben-hailוּלְעֹבַדְיָהand Obadiahוְלִזְכַרְיָהand Zechariahוְלִנְתַנְאֵלand Nethaneelוּלְמִיכָיָהוּand Micaiahלְלַמֵּדto teachבְּעָרֵיin the cities ofיְהוּדָה׃Judah

   Also in the third year of his reign he sent to his princes, even to Ben-hail, and to Obadiah, and to Zechariah, and to Nethaneel, and to Michaiah, to teach in the cities of Judah.

   וְעִמָּהֶםand having with themהַלְוִיִּםthe LevitesשְׁמַעְיָהוּShemaiahוּנְתַנְיָהוּand Nethaniahוּזְבַדְיָהוּand Zebadiahוַעֲשָׂהאֵלand Asahel[וּשְׁמִירָמוֹת]and Shemiramothוִיהוֹנָתָןand Jonathanוַאֲדֹנִיָּהוּand Adonijahוְטוֹבִיָּהוּand Tobijahוְטוֹבand Tob-אֲדוֹנִיָּהadonijahהַלְוִיִּםthe Levitesוְעִמָּהֶםand having with themאֱלִישָׁמָעElishamaוִיהוֹרָםand Jehoramהַכֹּהֲנִים׃the priests

   And with them he sent Levites, even Shemaiah, and Nethaniah, and Zebadiah, and Asahel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehonathan, and Adonijah, and Tobijah, and Tob-adonijah, Levites; and with them Elishama and Jehoram, priests.

   וַיְלַמְּדוּand they taughtבִּיהוּדָהin Judahוְעִמָּהֶםand having with themסֵפֶרthe book ofתּוֹרַתthe law ofיְהֹוָהthe LORDוַיָּסֹבּוּand they surroundedבְּכׇל־עָרֵיin all cities ofיְהוּדָהJudahוַיְלַמְּדוּand they taughtבָּעָם׃over the people

   And they taught in Judah, and had the book of the law of the LORD with them, and went about throughout all the cities of Judah, and taught the people.

10. 10

    וַיְהִיand it came to passפַּחַדdreadיְהֹוָהthe LORDעַלuponכׇּל־מַמְלְכוֹתall the kingdoms ofהָאֲרָצוֹתthe landsאֲשֶׁרwhichסְבִיבוֹתaroundיְהוּדָהJudahוְלֹאand notנִלְחֲמוּthey did contendעִם־יְהוֹשָׁפָט׃with Jehoshaphat

    And the fear of the LORD fell upon all the kingdoms of the lands that were round about Judah, so that they made no war against Jehoshaphat.

11. 11

    וּמִן־פְּלִשְׁתִּיםand from Philistinesמְבִיאִיםwere bringingלִיהוֹשָׁפָטof Jehoshaphatמִנְחָהpresentsוְכֶסֶףand silverמַשָּׂאtributeגַּםalsoהָעַרְבִיאִיםthe Arabiansמְבִיאִיםwere bringingלוֹto himצֹאןflocksאֵילִיםramsשִׁבְעַתsevenאֲלָפִיםthousandוּשְׁבַעand sevenמֵאוֹתhundredוּתְיָשִׁיםand male goatsשִׁבְעַתsevenאֲלָפִיםthousandוּשְׁבַעand sevenמֵאוֹת׃hundred

    Also some of the Philistines brought Jehoshaphat presents, and tribute silver; and the Arabians brought him flocks, seven thousand and seven hundred rams, and seven thousand and seven hundred he goats.

12. 12

    וַיְהִיand it came to passיְהוֹשָׁפָטJehoshaphatהֹלֵךְgoingוְגָדֵלand grewעַד־לְמָעְלָהuntil upwardוַיִּבֶןand builtבִּיהוּדָהin Judahבִּירָנִיּוֹתfortressesוְעָרֵיand the cities ofמִסְכְּנוֹת׃storage

    And Jehoshaphat waxed great exceedingly; and he built in Judah castles, and cities of store.

13. 13

    וּמְלָאכָהand a workרַבָּהmuchהָיָהwasלוֹto himבְּעָרֵיin the cities ofיְהוּדָהJudahוְאַנְשֵׁיand the men ofמִלְחָמָהwarגִּבּוֹרֵיmighty men ofחַיִלvalorבִּירוּשָׁלָ͏ִם׃in Jerusalem

    And he had much business in the cities of Judah: and the men of war, mighty men of valour, were in Jerusalem.

14. 14

    וְאֵלֶּהand theseפְקֻדָּתָםtheir groupsלְבֵיתto the house ofאֲבוֹתֵיהֶםtheir fathersלִיהוּדָהto Judahשָׂרֵיcaptains ofאֲלָפִיםthousandעַדְנָהAdnahהַשָּׂרthe commanderוְעִמּוֹand were with himגִּבּוֹרֵיmighty men ofחַיִלvalorשְׁלֹשׁthreeמֵאוֹתhundredאָלֶף׃thousand

    And these are the numbers of them according to the house of their fathers: Of Judah, the captains of thousands; Adnah the chief, and with him mighty men of valour three hundred thousand.

15. 15

    וְעַל־יָדוֹand upon his handיְהוֹחָנָןJehohananהַשָּׂרthe commanderוְעִמּוֹand were with himמָאתַיִםtwo hundredוּשְׁמוֹנִיםand eightyאָלֶף׃thousand

    And next to him was Jehohanan the captain, and with him two hundred and fourscore thousand.

16. 16

    וְעַל־יָדוֹand upon his handעֲמַסְיָהAmasiahבֶן־זִכְרִיson of Zichriהַמִּתְנַדֵּבthe one who volunteeredלַיהֹוָהto the LORDוְעִמּוֹand were with himמָאתַיִםtwo hundredאֶלֶףthousandגִּבּוֹרmightyחָיִל׃of valor

    And next him was Amasiah the son of Zichri, who willingly offered himself unto the LORD; and with him two hundred thousand mighty men of valour.

17. 17

    וּמִן־בִּנְיָמִןand from BenjaminגִּבּוֹרmightyחַיִלvalorאֶלְיָדָעEliadaוְעִמּוֹand were with himנֹשְׁקֵי־קֶשֶׁתthey were equipped of a bowוּמָגֵןand shieldמָאתַיִםtwo hundredאָלֶף׃thousand

    And of Benjamin; Eliada a mighty man of valour, and with him armed men with bow and shield two hundred thousand.

18. 18

    וְעַל־יָדוֹand upon his handיְהוֹזָבָדJehozabadוְעִמּוֹand were with himמֵאָה־וּשְׁמוֹנִיםa hundred and eightyאֶלֶףthousandחֲלוּצֵיarmed men ofצָבָא׃an army

    And next him was Jehozabad, and with him an hundred and fourscore thousand ready prepared for the war.

19. 19

    אֵלֶּהtheseהַמְשָׁרְתִיםwho servedאֶת־הַמֶּלֶךְthe kingמִלְּבַדbesidesאֲשֶׁר־נָתַןwhich gaveהַמֶּלֶךְthe kingבְּעָרֵיin the cities ofהַמִּבְצָרthe strongholdבְּכׇל־יְהוּדָה׃in all Judah

    These waited on the king, beside those whom the king put in the fenced cities throughout all Judah.
