   וַיַּעַשׂvay/YA/asand he didאָסָאA/SAAsaהַטּוֹבhat/TOVthe goodוְהַיָּשָׁרve/hay/ya/SHARand the rightבְּעֵינֵיbe/e/NEin the eyes ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֱלֹהָיו׃e/lo/HAYVhis God

   And Asa did that which was good and right in the eyes of the LORD his God:

   וַיָּסַרvay/YA/sarand he removedאֶת־מִזְבְּחוֹתet-miz/be/CHOTthe altars ofהַנֵּכָרhan/ne/KHARthe strangeוְהַבָּמוֹתve/hab/ba/MOTand the high placesוַיְשַׁבֵּרvay/shab/BERand he brokeאֶת־הַמַּצֵּבוֹתet-ham/mats/tse/VOTthe sacred pillarsוַיְגַדַּעvay/gad/DAand he cut downאֶת־הָאֲשֵׁרִים׃et-Ha/a/she/RIMthe Asherim

   For he took away the altars of the strange gods, and the high places, and brake down the images, and cut down the groves:

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand commandedלִיהוּדָהlI/hu/DAto Judahלִדְרוֹשׁlid/ROSHto seekאֶת־יְהֹוָהet-Adonaithe LORDאֱלֹהֵיe/lo/HEthe God ofאֲבוֹתֵיהֶםa/vo/te/HEMtheir fathersוְלַעֲשׂוֹתve/la/a/SOTand to doהַתּוֹרָהhat/to/RAthe lawוְהַמִּצְוָה׃ve/ham/mits/VAand the commandment

   And commanded Judah to seek the LORD God of their fathers, and to do the law and the commandment.

   וַיָּסַרvay/YA/sarand he removedמִכׇּל־עָרֵיmik/KOL-a/REfrom all the cities ofיְהוּדָהYe/hu/DAJudahאֶת־הַבָּמוֹתet-hab/ba/MOTthe high placesוְאֶת־הַחַמָּנִיםve/ET-ha/cham/ma/NIMand the incense altarsוַתִּשְׁקֹטvat/tish/KOTand was quietהַמַּמְלָכָהham/mam/la/KHAthe kingdomלְפָנָיו׃le/fa/NAYVunder him

   Also he took away out of all the cities of Judah the high places and the images: and the kingdom was quiet before him.

   וַיִּבֶןvay/YI/venand he builtעָרֵיa/REcities ofמְצוּרָהme/tsu/RAfortificationבִּיהוּדָהbI/hu/DAin Judahכִּי־שָׁקְטָהki-sha/ke/TAfor was quietהָאָרֶץha/A/retsthe landוְאֵין־עִמּוֹve/EN-im/MOand he had noמִלְחָמָהmil/cha/MAwarבַּשָּׁנִיםbash/sha/NIMin the yearsהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseכִּי־הֵנִיחַki-he/NI/achfor had given restיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDלוֹ׃loto him

   And he built fenced cities in Judah: for the land had rest, and he had no war in those years; because the LORD had given him rest.

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidלִיהוּדָהlI/hu/DAto Judahנִבְנֶהniv/NElet us buildאֶת־הֶעָרִיםet-he/a/RIMthe citiesהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseוְנָסֵבve/na/SEVand surround them withחוֹמָהcho/MAa wallוּמִגְדָּלִיםu/mig/da/LIMand towersדְּלָתַיִםde/la/TA/yimgatesוּבְרִיחִיםu/ve/ri/CHIMand barsעוֹדֶנּוּo/DEN/nuwhile stillהָאָרֶץha/A/retsthe land isלְפָנֵינוּle/fa/NE/nubefore usכִּיkibecauseדָרַשְׁנוּda/RASH/nuwe have soughtאֶת־יְהֹוָהet-Adonaithe LORDאֱלֹהֵינוּe/lo/HE/nuour Godדָּרַשְׁנוּda/RASH/nuwe have sought Himוַיָּנַח־לָנוּvay/YA/nach-LA/nuand He has given us restמִסָּבִיבmis/sa/VIVon every sideוַיִּבְנוּvay/yiv/NUand they builtוַיַּצְלִיחוּ׃vay/yats/LI/chuand prospered

   Therefore he said unto Judah, Let us build these cities, and make about them walls, and towers, gates, and bars, while the land is yet before us; because we have sought the LORD our God, we have sought him, and he hath given us rest on every side. So they built and prospered.

   וַיְהִיvay/HIand there wasלְאָסָאle/A/SAto AsaחַיִלCHA/yilan armyנֹשֵׂאno/SEcarryingצִנָּהtsin/NAlarge shieldsוָרֹמַחva/RO/machand spearsמִיהוּדָהmI/hu/DAout of Judahשְׁלֹשׁshe/LOSHthreeמֵאוֹתme/OThundredאֶלֶףE/lefthousandוּמִבִּנְיָמִןu/Mib/bin/ya/MINand out of Benjaminנֹשְׂאֵיnos/Ecarryingמָגֵןma/GENshieldsוְדֹרְכֵיve/DOR/kheand drawingקֶשֶׁתKE/shetbowsמָאתַיִםma/TA/yimtwo hundredוּשְׁמוֹנִיםu/she/mo/NIMand eightyאָלֶףA/lefthousandכׇּל־אֵלֶּהkol-EL/leall theseגִּבּוֹרֵיgib/bo/REmighty men ofחָיִל׃CHA/yilvalor

   And Asa had an army of men that bare targets and spears, out of Judah three hundred thousand; and out of Benjamin, that bare shields and drew bows, two hundred and fourscore thousand: all these were mighty men of valour.

   וַיֵּצֵאvay/ye/TSEand came outאֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMagainst themזֶרַחZE/rachZerahהַכּוּשִׁיhak/Ku/SHIthe Cushiteבְּחַיִלbe/CHA/yilwith an army ofאֶלֶףE/lefa thousandאֲלָפִיםa/la/FIMthousandוּמַרְכָּבוֹתu/mar/ka/VOTand chariotsשְׁלֹשׁshe/LOSHthreeמֵאוֹתme/OThundredוַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand cameעַד־מָרֵשָׁה׃ad-Ma/re/SHAto Mareshah

   And there came out against them Zerah the Ethiopian with an host of a thousand thousand, and three hundred chariots; and came unto Mareshah.

   וַיֵּצֵאvay/ye/TSEand went outאָסָאA/SAAsaלְפָנָיוle/fa/NAYVbefore himוַיַּעַרְכוּvay/ya/ar/KHUand they set in arrayמִלְחָמָהmil/cha/MAthe battleבְּגֵיאbe/GEin the valley ofצְפַתָהTse/FA/taZephathahלְמָרֵשָׁה׃le/Ma/re/SHAat Mareshah

   Then Asa went out against him, and they set the battle in array in the valley of Zephathah at Mareshah.

    וַיִּקְרָאvay/yik/RAand calledאָסָאA/SAAsaאֶל־יְהֹוָהel-Adonaito the LORDאֱלֹהָיוe/lo/HAYVhis Godוַיֹּאמַרvay/yo/MARand he saidיְהֹוָהAdonaiO LORDאֵין־עִמְּךָen-im/me/KHAthere is none with Youלַעְזֹרla/ZORto helpבֵּיןbenbetweenרַבravthe mightyלְאֵיןle/ENand him who has noכֹּחַKO/achstrengthעׇזְרֵנוּoz/RE/nuhelp usיְהֹוָהAdonaiO LORDאֱלֹהֵינוּe/lo/HE/nuour Godכִּי־עָלֶיךָki-a/LE/khafor on Youנִשְׁעַנּוּnish/AN/nuwe relyוּבְשִׁמְךָu/ve/shim/KHAand in Your nameבָאנוּVA/nuwe have comeעַל־הֶהָמוֹןal-he/ha/MONagainst the multitudeהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisיְהֹוָהAdonaiO LORDאֱלֹהֵינוּe/lo/HE/nuour Godאַתָּהat/TAYou areאַל־יַעְצֹרal-ya/TSORlet not prevailעִמְּךָim/me/KHAagainst Youאֱנוֹשׁ׃e/NOSHman

    And Asa cried unto the LORD his God, and said, LORD, it is nothing with thee to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power: help us, O LORD our God; for we rest on thee, and in thy name we go against this multitude. O LORD, thou art our God; let not man prevail against thee.

    וַיִּגֹּףvay/yig/GOFso struckיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֶת־הַכּוּשִׁיםet-Hak/ku/SHIMthe Cushitesלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeאָסָאA/SAAsaוְלִפְנֵיve/lif/NEand beforeיְהוּדָהYe/hu/DAJudahוַיָּנֻסוּvay/ya/NU/suand they fledהַכּוּשִׁים׃hak/Ku/SHIMthe Cushites

    So the LORD smote the Ethiopians before Asa, and before Judah; and the Ethiopians fled.

12. 12

    וַיִּרְדְּפֵםvay/yir/de/FEMand pursued themאָסָאA/SAAsaוְהָעָםve/ha/AMand the peopleאֲשֶׁר־עִמּוֹa/SHER-im/MOwho were with himעַד־לִגְרָרad-Lig/RARas far as Gerarוַיִּפֹּלvay/yip/POLand fellמִכּוּשִׁיםmik/Ku/SHIMof the Cushitesלְאֵיןle/ENso that there was noלָהֶםla/HEMfor themמִחְיָהmich/YArecoveryכִּי־נִשְׁבְּרוּki-nish/be/RUfor they were brokenלִפְנֵי־יְהֹוָהlif/NE-Adonaibefore the LORDוְלִפְנֵיve/lif/NEand beforeמַחֲנֵהוּma/cha/NE/huHis campוַיִּשְׂאוּvay/yis/Uand they carried awayשָׁלָלsha/LALthe spoilהַרְבֵּהhar/BEmuchמְאֹד׃me/ODvery

    And Asa and the people that were with him pursued them unto Gerar: and the Ethiopians were overthrown, that they could not recover themselves; for they were destroyed before the LORD, and before his host; and they carried away very much spoil.

    וַיַּכּוּvay/yak/KUand they struckאֵת־כׇּל־הֶעָרִיםet-kol-he/a/RIMall the citiesסְבִיבוֹתse/vi/VOTaroundגְּרָרGe/RARGerarכִּי־הָיָהki-ha/YAfor had comeפַחַד־יְהֹוָהFA/chad-Adonaithe fear of the LORDעֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMupon themוַיָּבֹזּוּvay/ya/VOZ/zuand they plunderedאֶת־כׇּל־הֶעָרִיםet-kol-he/a/RIMall the citiesכִּי־בִזָּהki-viz/ZAfor plunderרַבָּהrab/BAmuchהָיְתָהha/ye/TAthere wasבָהֶם׃va/HEMin them

    And they smote all the cities round about Gerar; for the fear of the LORD came upon them: and they spoiled all the cities; for there was exceeding much spoil in them.

14. 14

    וְגַם־אׇהֳלֵיve/GAM-o/ho/LEand also the tents ofמִקְנֶהmik/NElivestockהִכּוּhik/KUthey struckוַיִּשְׁבּוּvay/yish/BUand carried offצֹאןtsonsheepלָרֹבla/ROVin abundanceוּגְמַלִּיםu/ge/mal/LIMand camelsוַיָּשֻׁבוּvay/ya/SHU/vuand they returnedיְרוּשָׁלָ͏ִם׃Ye/ru/sha/LA/yimto Jerusalem

    They smote also the tents of cattle, and carried away sheep and camels in abundance, and returned to Jerusalem.
