   וַיָּבֹאand cameרְחַבְעָםRehoboamיְרוּשָׁלַ͏ִםJerusalemוַיַּקְהֵלand he caused thatאֶת־בֵּיתhouse ofיְהוּדָהJudahוּבִנְיָמִןand Benjaminמֵאָהa hundredוּשְׁמוֹנִיםand eightyאֶלֶףthousandבָּחוּרchosenעֹשֵׂהthat doesמִלְחָמָהwarלְהִלָּחֵםto fightעִם־יִשְׂרָאֵלwith Israelלְהָשִׁיבto he restoredאֶת־הַמַּמְלָכָהthe kingdomלִרְחַבְעָם׃to Rehoboam

   And when Rehoboam was come to Jerusalem, he gathered of the house of Judah and Benjamin an hundred and fourscore thousand chosen men, which were warriors, to fight against Israel, that he might bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam.

   וַיְהִיand it came to passדְּבַר־יְהֹוָהthe word of the LORDאֶל־שְׁמַעְיָהוּto Shemaiahאִישׁ־הָאֱלֹהִיםman of the Godלֵאמֹר׃saying

   But the word of the LORD came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying,

   אֱמֹרsayאֶל־רְחַבְעָםto Rehoboamבֶּן־שְׁלֹמֹהson of Solomonמֶלֶךְthe king ofיְהוּדָהJudahוְאֶלandכׇּל־יִשְׂרָאֵלall Israelבִּיהוּדָהin Judahוּבִנְיָמִןand Benjaminלֵאמֹר׃saying

   Speak unto Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all Israel in Judah and Benjamin, saying,

   כֹּהthusאָמַרsaidיְהֹוָהthe LORDלֹא־תַעֲלוּnot you shall offer upוְלֹא־תִלָּחֲמוּand not you shall fightעִם־אֲחֵיכֶםwith your brethrenשׁוּבוּreturnאִישׁa manלְבֵיתוֹto his houseכִּיforמֵאִתִּיof Meנִהְיָהhas it occurredהַדָּבָרthe wordהַזֶּהthisוַיִּשְׁמְעוּand they heardאֶת־דִּבְרֵיthe words ofיְהֹוָהthe LORDוַיָּשֻׁבוּand they returnedמִלֶּכֶתnot to walkאֶל־יָרׇבְעָם׃to Jeroboam

   Thus saith the LORD, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren: return every man to his house: for this thing is done of me. And they obeyed the words of the LORD, and returned from going against Jeroboam.

   וַיֵּשֶׁבand he dweltרְחַבְעָםRehoboamבִּירוּשָׁלָ͏ִםin Jerusalemוַיִּבֶןand builtעָרִיםcitiesלְמָצוֹרto fortificationבִּיהוּדָה׃in Judah

   And Rehoboam dwelt in Jerusalem, and built cities for defence in Judah.

   וַיִּבֶןand builtאֶת־בֵּית־לֶחֶםBeth-lehemוְאֶת־עֵיטָםand Etamוְאֶת־תְּקוֹעַ׃and Tekoa

   He built even Beth-lehem, and Etam, and Tekoa,

7. 7

   וְאֶת־בֵּית־צוּרand Beth-zurוְאֶת־שׂוֹכוֹand Shochoוְאֶת־עֲדֻלָּם׃and Adullam

   And Beth-zur, and Shoco, and Adullam,

8. 8

   וְאֶת־גַּתand Gathוְאֶת־מָרֵשָׁהand Mareshahוְאֶת־זִיף׃and Ziph

   And Gath, and Mareshah, and Ziph,

9. 9

   וְאֶת־אֲדוֹרַיִםand Adoraimוְאֶת־לָכִישׁand Lachishוְאֶת־עֲזֵקָה׃and Azekah

   And Adoraim, and Lachish, and Azekah,

10. 10

    וְאֶת־צׇרְעָהand Zorahוְאֶת־אַיָּלוֹןand Aijalonוְאֶת־חֶבְרוֹןand Hebronאֲשֶׁרwhichבִּיהוּדָהin Judahוּבְבִנְיָמִןand in Benjaminעָרֵיcities ofמְצֻרוֹת׃fortifications

    And Zorah, and Aijalon, and Hebron, which are in Judah and in Benjamin fenced cities.

11. 11

    וַיְחַזֵּקand he strengthenedאֶת־הַמְּצוּרוֹתthe strongholdsוַיִּתֵּןand gaveבָּהֶםin themנְגִידִיםcommandersוְאֹצְרוֹתand supplies ofמַאֲכׇלfoodוְשֶׁמֶןand oilוָיָיִן׃and wine

    And he fortified the strong holds, and put captains in them, and store of victual, and of oil and wine.

12. 12

    וּבְכׇל־עִירand in all city ofוָעִירand a cityצִנּוֹתbody shieldsוּרְמָחִיםand spearsוַיְחַזְּקֵםand did exhort themלְהַרְבֵּהto abundanceמְאֹדexceedinglyוַיְהִי־לוֹand it came to pass himיְהוּדָהJudahוּבִנְיָמִן׃and Benjamin

    And in every several city he put shields and spears, and made them exceeding strong, having Judah and Benjamin on his side.

13. 13

    וְהַכֹּהֲנִיםand the priestsוְהַלְוִיִּםand the Levitesאֲשֶׁרwhichבְּכׇל־יִשְׂרָאֵלin all Israelהִתְיַצְּבוּresortedעָלָיוupon himמִכׇּל־גְּבוּלָם׃from all their territory

    And the priests and the Levites that were in all Israel resorted to him out of all their coasts.

14. 14

    כִּי־עָזְבוּbecause leftהַלְוִיִּםthe Levitesאֶת־מִגְרְשֵׁיהֶםtheir pasture landsוַאֲחֻזָּתָםand their possessionוַיֵּלְכוּand they wentלִיהוּדָהto Judahוְלִירוּשָׁלָ͏ִםand to Jerusalemכִּי־הִזְנִיחָםbecause he had rejected themיָרׇבְעָםJeroboamוּבָנָיוand his sonsמִכַּהֵןfrom serving as priestsלַיהֹוָה׃to the LORD

    For the Levites left their suburbs and their possession, and came to Judah and Jerusalem: for Jeroboam and his sons had cast them off from executing the priest's office unto the LORD:

15. 15

    וַיַּעֲמֶד־לוֹand he appointed himכֹּהֲנִיםpriestsלַבָּמוֹתfor the high placesוְלַשְּׂעִירִיםand for the goatsוְלָעֲגָלִיםand for the calvesאֲשֶׁרwhichעָשָׂה׃he did

    And he ordained him priests for the high places, and for the devils, and for the calves which he had made.

16. 16

    וְאַחֲרֵיהֶםand after themמִכֹּלof allשִׁבְטֵיtribes ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelהַנֹּתְנִיםthose which giveאֶת־לְבָבָםtheir heartsלְבַקֵּשׁto seekאֶת־יְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהֵיthe God ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelבָּאוּcameיְרוּשָׁלַ͏ִםJerusalemלִזְבּוֹחַto sacrificeלַיהֹוָהto the LORDאֱלֹהֵיthe God ofאֲבוֹתֵיהֶם׃their fathers

    And after them out of all the tribes of Israel such as set their hearts to seek the LORD God of Israel came to Jerusalem, to sacrifice unto the LORD God of their fathers.

17. 17

    וַיְחַזְּקוּconfirmingאֶת־מַלְכוּתthe kingdom ofיְהוּדָהJudahוַיְאַמְּצוּand they strengthenedאֶת־רְחַבְעָםRehoboamבֶּן־שְׁלֹמֹהson of Solomonלְשָׁנִיםfor yearsשָׁלוֹשׁthreeכִּיbecauseהָלְכוּwentבְּדֶרֶךְby the way ofדָּוִידDavidוּשְׁלֹמֹהand Solomonלְשָׁנִיםfor yearsשָׁלוֹשׁ׃three

    So they strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and made Rehoboam the son of Solomon strong, three years: for three years they walked in the way of David and Solomon.

18. 18

    וַיִּקַּח־לוֹand took to himרְחַבְעָםRehoboamאִשָּׁהa womanאֶת־מָחֲלַתMahalath(בן)[בַּת־]יְרִימוֹתdaughter of Jerimothבֶּן־דָּוִידson of DavidאֲבִיהַיִלAbihailבַּת־אֱלִיאָבdaughter of Eliabבֶּן־יִשָׁי׃son of Jesse

    And Rehoboam took him Mahalath the daughter of Jerimoth the son of David to wife, and Abihail the daughter of Eliab the son of Jesse;

19. 19

    וַתֵּלֶדand boreלוֹto himבָּנִיםsonsאֶת־יְעוּשׁJeushוְאֶת־שְׁמַרְיָהand Shemariahוְאֶת־זָהַם׃and Zaham

    Which bare him children; Jeush, and Shamariah, and Zaham.

20. 20

    וְאַחֲרֶיהָand after herלָקַחtookאֶת־מַעֲכָהMaachahבַּת־אַבְשָׁלוֹםdaughter of Absalomוַתֵּלֶדand boreלוֹto himאֶת־אֲבִיָּהAbijahוְאֶת־עַתַּיand Attaiוְאֶת־זִיזָאand Zizaוְאֶת־שְׁלֹמִית׃and was Shelomith

    And after her he took Maachah the daughter of Absalom; which bare him Abijah, and Attai, and Ziza, and Shelomith.

21. 21

    וַיֶּאֱהַבand he lovedרְחַבְעָםRehoboamאֶת־מַעֲכָהMaachahבַת־אַבְשָׁלוֹםthe daughter of Absalomמִכׇּל־נָשָׁיוfrom all his wivesוּפִילַגְשָׁיוand his concubinesכִּיforנָשִׁיםwomenשְׁמוֹנֶה־עֶשְׂרֵהeighteenנָשָׂאhe tookוּפִילַגְשִׁיםand concubinesשִׁשִּׁיםsixtyוַיּוֹלֶדand begatעֶשְׂרִיםtwentyוּשְׁמוֹנָהand eightבָּנִיםsonsוְשִׁשִּׁיםand sixtyבָּנוֹת׃daughters

    And Rehoboam loved Maachah the daughter of Absalom above all his wives and his concubines: (for he took eighteen wives, and threescore concubines; and begat twenty and eight sons, and threescore daughters.)

22. 22

    וַיַּעֲמֵדand he madeלָרֹאשׁchiefרְחַבְעָםRehoboamאֶת־אֲבִיָּהAbijahבֶן־מַעֲכָהson of Maachahלְנָגִידto rulerבְּאֶחָיוamong his brothersכִּיforלְהַמְלִיכוֹ׃to make king him

    And Rehoboam made Abijah the son of Maachah the chief, to be ruler among his brethren: for he thought to make him king.

23. 23

    וַיָּבֶןand he dealt wiselyוַיִּפְרֹץand he dispersedמִכׇּל־בָּנָיוfrom all his sonsלְכׇל־אַרְצוֹתto all the lands ofיְהוּדָהJudahוּבִנְיָמִןand Benjaminלְכֹלfor allעָרֵיcities ofהַמְּצֻרוֹתthe fortificationsוַיִּתֵּןand gaveלָהֶםto themהַמָּזוֹןthe foodלָרֹבin abundanceוַיִּשְׁאַלand he soughtהֲמוֹןmultitude ofנָשִׁים׃women

    And he dealt wisely, and dispersed of all his children throughout all the countries of Judah and Benjamin, unto every fenced city: and he gave them victual in abundance. And he desired many wives.
