   And when Rehoboam was come to Jerusalem, he gathered of the house of Judah and Benjamin an hundred and fourscore thousand chosen men, which were warriors, to fight against Israel, that he might bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam.

   וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passדְּבַר־יְהֹוָהde/VAR-Adonaithe word of the LORDאֶל־שְׁמַעְיָהוּel-She/ma/YA/huto Shemaiahאִישׁ־הָאֱלֹהִיםish-ha/e/lo/HIMthe man of Godלֵאמֹר׃le/MORsaying

   But the word of the LORD came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying,

   אֱמֹרe/MORsayאֶל־רְחַבְעָםel-Re/chav/AMto Rehoboamבֶּן־שְׁלֹמֹהben-She/lo/MOthe son of SolomonמֶלֶךְME/lekhking ofיְהוּדָהYe/hu/DAJudahוְאֶלve/ELand toכׇּל־יִשְׂרָאֵלkol-Yis/ra/ELall IsraelבִּיהוּדָהbI/hu/DAin Judahוּבִנְיָמִןu/Vin/ya/MINand Benjaminלֵאמֹר׃le/MORsaying

   Speak unto Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all Israel in Judah and Benjamin, saying,

   כֹּהkothusאָמַרa/MARsaysיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDלֹא־תַעֲלוּlo-ta/a/LUyou shall not go upוְלֹא־תִלָּחֲמוּve/LO-til/la/cha/MUand you shall not fightעִם־אֲחֵיכֶםim-a/che/KHEMagainst your brothersשׁוּבוּSHU/vureturnאִישׁishevery manלְבֵיתוֹle/ve/TOto his houseכִּיkiforמֵאִתִּיme/it/TIfrom Meנִהְיָהnih/YAhas come aboutהַדָּבָרhad/da/VARthe thingהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisוַיִּשְׁמְעוּvay/yish/me/Uso they listened toאֶת־דִּבְרֵיet-div/REthe words ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDוַיָּשֻׁבוּvay/ya/SHU/vuand turned backמִלֶּכֶתmil/LE/khetfrom goingאֶל־יָרׇבְעָם׃el-Ya/rov/AMagainst Jeroboam

   Thus saith the LORD, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren: return every man to his house: for this thing is done of me. And they obeyed the words of the LORD, and returned from going against Jeroboam.

   וַיֵּשֶׁבvay/YE/shevand he dweltרְחַבְעָםRe/chav/AMRehoboamבִּירוּשָׁלָ͏ִםbI/ru/sha/LA/yimin Jerusalemוַיִּבֶןvay/YI/venand he builtעָרִיםa/RIMcitiesלְמָצוֹרle/ma/TSORfor defenseבִּיהוּדָה׃bI/hu/DAin Judah

   And Rehoboam dwelt in Jerusalem, and built cities for defence in Judah.

   וַיִּבֶןvay/YI/venand he builtאֶת־בֵּית־לֶחֶםet-Bet-LE/chemBeth-lehemוְאֶת־עֵיטָםve/ET-e/TAMand Etamוְאֶת־תְּקוֹעַ׃ve/ET-te/KO/aand Tekoa

   He built even Beth-lehem, and Etam, and Tekoa,

   וְאֶת־בֵּית־צוּרve/ET-bet-tsurand Beth-zurוְאֶת־שׂוֹכוֹve/ET-so/KHOand Shocoוְאֶת־עֲדֻלָּם׃ve/ET-a/dul/LAMand Adullam

   And Beth-zur, and Shoco, and Adullam,

8. 8

   וְאֶת־גַּתve/ET-gatand Gathוְאֶת־מָרֵשָׁהve/ET-ma/re/SHAand Mareshahוְאֶת־זִיף׃ve/ET-zifand Ziph

   And Gath, and Mareshah, and Ziph,

9. 9

   וְאֶת־אֲדוֹרַיִםve/ET-a/do/RA/yimand Adoraimוְאֶת־לָכִישׁve/ET-la/KHISHand Lachishוְאֶת־עֲזֵקָה׃ve/ET-a/ze/KAand Azekah

   And Adoraim, and Lachish, and Azekah,

10. 10

    וְאֶת־צׇרְעָהve/ET-tsor/Aand Zorahוְאֶת־אַיָּלוֹןve/ET-ay/ya/LONand Aijalonוְאֶת־חֶבְרוֹןve/ET-chev/RONand Hebronאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthat areבִּיהוּדָהbI/hu/DAin Judahוּבְבִנְיָמִןu/ve/Vin/ya/MINand in Benjaminעָרֵיa/REcities ofמְצֻרוֹת׃me/tsu/ROTfortifications

    And Zorah, and Aijalon, and Hebron, which are in Judah and in Benjamin fenced cities.

11. 11

    וַיְחַזֵּקvay/chaz/ZEKand he fortifiedאֶת־הַמְּצוּרוֹתet-ham/me/tsu/ROTthe fortressesוַיִּתֵּןvay/yit/TENand putבָּהֶםba/HEMin themנְגִידִיםne/gi/DIMcommandersוְאֹצְרוֹתve/ots/ROTand stores ofמַאֲכָלma/a/KHALfoodוְשֶׁמֶןve/SHE/menand oilוָיָיִן׃va/YA/yinand wine

    And he fortified the strong holds, and put captains in them, and store of victual, and of oil and wine.

12. 12

    וּבְכׇל־עִירu/ve/KHOL-irand in every cityוָעִירva/IRand cityצִנּוֹתtsin/NOTlarge shieldsוּרְמָחִיםu/re/ma/CHIMand spearsוַיְחַזְּקֵםvay/chaz/ze/KEMand he made them strongלְהַרְבֵּהle/har/BEexceedinglyמְאֹדme/ODveryוַיְהִי־לוֹvay/HI-loand he hadיְהוּדָהYe/hu/DAJudahוּבִנְיָמִן׃u/Vin/ya/MINand Benjamin

    And in every several city he put shields and spears, and made them exceeding strong, having Judah and Benjamin on his side.

13. 13

    וְהַכֹּהֲנִיםve/hak/ko/ha/NIMand the priestsוְהַלְוִיִּםVe/hal/viy/YIMand the Levitesאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwho wereבְּכׇל־יִשְׂרָאֵלbe/KHOL-yis/ra/ELin all Israelהִתְיַצְּבוּhit/yats/tse/VUpresented themselvesעָלָיוa/LAYVto himמִכׇּל־גְּבוּלָם׃mik/KOL-ge/vu/LAMfrom all their territories

    And the priests and the Levites that were in all Israel resorted to him out of all their coasts.

14. 14

    כִּי־עָזְבוּki-a/ze/VUfor leftהַלְוִיִּםHal/viy/YIMthe Levitesאֶת־מִגְרְשֵׁיהֶםet-mig/re/she/HEMtheir pasture landsוַאֲחֻזָּתָםva/a/chuz/za/TAMand their possessionוַיֵּלְכוּvay/yel/KHUand they wentלִיהוּדָהlI/hu/DAto Judahוְלִירוּשָׁלָ͏ִםve/Li/ru/sha/LA/yimand to Jerusalemכִּי־הִזְנִיחָםki-hiz/ni/CHAMfor had cast them offיָרׇבְעָםYa/rov/AMJeroboamוּבָנָיוu/va/NAYVand his sonsמִכַּהֵןmik/ka/HENfrom serving as priestsלַיהֹוָה׃la-Adonaito the LORD

    For the Levites left their suburbs and their possession, and came to Judah and Jerusalem: for Jeroboam and his sons had cast them off from executing the priest's office unto the LORD:

15. 15

    וַיַּעֲמֶד־לוֹvay/ya/a/MED-loand he appointed for himselfכֹּהֲנִיםko/ha/NIMpriestsלַבָּמוֹתlab/ba/MOTfor the high placesוְלַשְּׂעִירִיםve/las/se/i/RIMand for the goat idolsוְלָעֲגָלִיםve/la/a/ga/LIMand for the calvesאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatעָשָׂה׃a/SAhe had made

    And he ordained him priests for the high places, and for the devils, and for the calves which he had made.

16. 16

    וְאַחֲרֵיהֶםve/a/cha/re/HEMand after themמִכֹּלmik/KOLof allשִׁבְטֵיshiv/TEthe tribes ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelהַנֹּתְנִיםhan/not/NIMwho setאֶת־לְבָבָםet-le/va/VAMtheir heartsלְבַקֵּשׁle/vak/KESHto seekאֶת־יְהֹוָהet-Adonaithe LORDאֱלֹהֵיe/lo/HEthe God ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelבָּאוּBA/ucameיְרוּשָׁלַ͏ִםYe/ru/sha/LA/yimto Jerusalemלִזְבּוֹחַliz/BO/achto sacrificeלַיהֹוָהla-Adonaito the LORDאֱלֹהֵיe/lo/HEthe God ofאֲבוֹתֵיהֶם׃a/vo/te/HEMtheir fathers

    And after them out of all the tribes of Israel such as set their hearts to seek the LORD God of Israel came to Jerusalem, to sacrifice unto the LORD God of their fathers.

17. 17

    וַיְחַזְּקוּvay/chaz/ze/KUand they strengthenedאֶת־מַלְכוּתet-mal/KHUTthe kingdom ofיְהוּדָהYe/hu/DAJudahוַיְאַמְּצוּvay/am/me/TSUand made strongאֶת־רְחַבְעָםet-Re/chav/AMRehoboamבֶּן־שְׁלֹמֹהben-She/lo/MOthe son of Solomonלְשָׁנִיםle/sha/NIMfor yearsשָׁלוֹשׁsha/LOSHthreeכִּיkiforהָלְכוּha/le/KHUthey walkedבְּדֶרֶךְbe/DE/rekhby the way ofדָּוִידDa/VIDDavidוּשְׁלֹמֹהu/She/lo/MOand Solomonלְשָׁנִיםle/sha/NIMfor yearsשָׁלוֹשׁ׃sha/LOSHthree

    So they strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and made Rehoboam the son of Solomon strong, three years: for three years they walked in the way of David and Solomon.

18. 18

    וַיִּקַּח־לוֹvay/yik/KACH-loand took for himselfרְחַבְעָםRe/chav/AMRehoboamאִשָּׁהish/SHAa wifeאֶת־מָחֲלַתet-Ma/cha/LATMahalath(בן)van[בַּת־]יְרִימוֹתbat-Ye/ri/MOTthe daughter of Jerimothבֶּן־דָּוִידben-Da/VIDthe son of DavidאֲבִיהַיִלA/vi/HA/yilAbihailבַּת־אֱלִיאָבbat-E/li/AVthe daughter of Eliabבֶּן־יִשָׁי׃ben-Yi/SHAYthe son of Jesse

    And Rehoboam took him Mahalath the daughter of Jerimoth the son of David to wife, and Abihail the daughter of Eliab the son of Jesse;

19. 19

    וַתֵּלֶדvat/TE/ledand she boreלוֹloto himבָּנִיםba/NIMsonsאֶת־יְעוּשׁet-Ye/USHJeushוְאֶת־שְׁמַרְיָהve/ET-she/mar/YAand Shemariahוְאֶת־זָהַם׃ve/ET-ZA/hamand Zaham

    Which bare him children; Jeush, and Shamariah, and Zaham.

20. 20

    וְאַחֲרֶיהָve/a/cha/RE/haand after herלָקַחla/KACHhe tookאֶת־מַעֲכָהet-Ma/a/KHAMaachahבַּת־אַבְשָׁלוֹםbat-Av/sha/LOMthe daughter of Absalomוַתֵּלֶדvat/TE/ledand she boreלוֹloto himאֶת־אֲבִיָּהet-A/viy/YAAbijahוְאֶת־עַתַּיve/ET-at/TAYand Attaiוְאֶת־זִיזָאve/ET-zi/ZAand Zizaוְאֶת־שְׁלֹמִית׃ve/ET-she/lo/MITand Shelomith

    And after her he took Maachah the daughter of Absalom; which bare him Abijah, and Attai, and Ziza, and Shelomith.

21. 21

    וַיֶּאֱהַבvay/ye/e/HAVand he lovedרְחַבְעָםRe/chav/AMRehoboamאֶת־מַעֲכָהet-Ma/a/KHAMaachahבַת־אַבְשָׁלוֹםvat-Av/sha/LOMthe daughter of Absalomמִכׇּל־נָשָׁיוmik/KOL-na/SHAYVabove all his wivesוּפִילַגְשָׁיוu/fi/lag/SHAYVand his concubinesכִּיkiforנָשִׁיםna/SHIMwivesשְׁמוֹנֶה־עֶשְׂרֵהshe/mo/NE-es/REeighteenנָשָׂאna/SAhe tookוּפִילַגְשִׁיםu/fi/lag/SHIMand concubinesשִׁשִּׁיםshish/SHIMsixtyוַיּוֹלֶדvay/YO/ledand he begatעֶשְׂרִיםes/RIMtwentyוּשְׁמוֹנָהu/she/mo/NAand eightבָּנִיםba/NIMsonsוְשִׁשִּׁיםve/shish/SHIMand sixtyבָּנוֹת׃ba/NOTdaughters

    And Rehoboam loved Maachah the daughter of Absalom above all his wives and his concubines: (for he took eighteen wives, and threescore concubines; and begat twenty and eight sons, and threescore daughters.)

22. 22

    וַיַּעֲמֵדvay/ya/a/MEDand appointedלָרֹאשׁla/ROSHas headרְחַבְעָםRe/chav/AMRehoboamאֶת־אֲבִיָּהet-A/viy/YAAbijahבֶן־מַעֲכָהven-Ma/a/KHAthe son of Maachahלְנָגִידle/na/GIDas princeבְּאֶחָיוbe/e/CHAYVamong his brothersכִּיkiforלְהַמְלִיכוֹ׃le/ham/li/KHOto make him king

    And Rehoboam made Abijah the son of Maachah the chief, to be ruler among his brethren: for he thought to make him king.

23. 23

    וַיָּבֶןvay/YA/venand he acted wiselyוַיִּפְרֹץvay/yif/ROTSand dispersedמִכׇּל־בָּנָיוmik/KOL-ba/NAYVof all his sonsלְכׇל־אַרְצוֹתle/KHOL-ar/TSOTthroughout all the lands ofיְהוּדָהYe/hu/DAJudahוּבִנְיָמִןu/Vin/ya/MINand Benjaminלְכֹלle/KHOLto allעָרֵיa/REthe cities ofהַמְּצֻרוֹתham/me/tsu/ROTthe fortificationsוַיִּתֵּןvay/yit/TENand he gaveלָהֶםla/HEMto themהַמָּזוֹןham/ma/ZONprovisionsלָרֹבla/ROVin abundanceוַיִּשְׁאַלvay/yish/ALand he soughtהֲמוֹןha/MONa multitude ofנָשִׁים׃na/SHIMwives

    And he dealt wisely, and dispersed of all his children throughout all the countries of Judah and Benjamin, unto every fenced city: and he gave them victual in abundance. And he desired many wives.
