   וַיֵּלֶךְvay/YE/lekhand wentרְחַבְעָםRe/chav/AMRehoboamשְׁכֶמָהShe/KHE/mato ShechemכִּיkiforשְׁכֶםShe/KHEMShechemבָּאוּBA/uhad comeכׇל־יִשְׂרָאֵלkhol-Yis/ra/ELall Israelלְהַמְלִיךְle/ham/LIKHto make kingאֹתוֹ׃o/TOhim

   And Rehoboam went to Shechem: for to Shechem were all Israel come to make him king.

   וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passכִּשְׁמֹעַkish/MO/awhen heardיָרׇבְעָםYa/rov/AMJeroboamבֶּן־נְבָטben-Ne/VATthe son of Nebatוְהוּאve/HUand he wasבְמִצְרַיִםve/Mits/RA/yimin Egyptאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhereבָּרַחba/RACHhad fledמִפְּנֵיmip/pe/NEfrom beforeשְׁלֹמֹהShe/lo/MOSolomonהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingוַיָּשׇׁבvay/YA/shovreturnedיָרׇבְעָםYa/rov/AMJeroboamמִמִּצְרָיִם׃mim/Mits/RA/yimfrom Egypt

   And it came to pass, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who was in Egypt, whither he had fled from the presence of Solomon the king, heard it, that Jeroboam returned out of Egypt.

   וַיִּשְׁלְחוּvay/yish/le/CHUand they sentוַיִּקְרְאוּ־לוֹvay/yik/re/U-loand they called himוַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand cameיָרׇבְעָםYa/rov/AMJeroboamוְכׇל־יִשְׂרָאֵלve/KHOL-yis/ra/ELand all Israelוַיְדַבְּרוּvay/dab/be/RUand spokeאֶל־רְחַבְעָםel-Re/chav/AMto Rehoboamלֵאמֹר׃le/MORsaying

   And they sent and called him. So Jeroboam and all Israel came and spake to Rehoboam, saying,

   אָבִיךָa/VI/khayour fatherהִקְשָׁהhik/SHAmade hardאֶת־עֻלֵּנוּet-ul/LE/nuour yokeוְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowהָקֵלha/KELlightenמֵעֲבוֹדַתme/a/vo/DATfrom the service ofאָבִיךָa/VI/khayour fatherהַקָּשָׁהhak/ka/SHAhardוּמֵעֻלּוֹu/me/ul/LOand his yokeהַכָּבֵדhak/ka/VEDheavyאֲשֶׁר־נָתַןa/SHER-na/TANthat he putעָלֵינוּa/LE/nuupon usוְנַעַבְדֶךָּ׃ve/na/av/DEK/kaand we will serve you

   Thy father made our yoke grievous: now therefore ease thou somewhat the grievous servitude of thy father, and his heavy yoke that he put upon us, and we will serve thee.

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֲלֵהֶםa/le/HEMto themעוֹדodyetשְׁלֹשֶׁתshe/LO/shetthreeיָמִיםya/MIMdaysוְשׁוּבוּve/SHU/vuand returnאֵלָיe/LAYto meוַיֵּלֶךְvay/YE/lekhand wentהָעָם׃ha/AMthe people

   And he said unto them, Come again unto me after three days. And the people departed.

   וַיִּוָּעַץvay/yiv/va/ATSand consultedהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingרְחַבְעָםRe/chav/AMRehoboamאֶת־הַזְּקֵנִיםet-haz/ze/ke/NIMwith the old menאֲשֶׁר־הָיוּa/SHER-ha/YUwho had beenעֹמְדִיםom/DIMstandingלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeשְׁלֹמֹהShe/lo/MOSolomonאָבִיוa/VIVhis fatherבִּהְיֹתוֹbih/yo/TOwhile he wasחַיchayaliveלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingאֵיךְekhhowאַתֶּםat/TEMdo youנוֹעָצִיםno/a/TSIMcounselלְהָשִׁיבle/ha/SHIVto answerלָעָם־הַזֶּהla/AM-haz/ZEto the people thisדָּבָר׃da/VARa word

   And king Rehoboam took counsel with the old men that had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, What counsel give ye me to return answer to this people?

   וַיְדַבְּרוּvay/dab/be/RUand spokeאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingאִם־תִּהְיֶהim-tih/YEif you areלְטוֹבle/TOVkindלְהָעָםle/ha/AMto the peopleהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisוּרְצִיתָםu/re/tsi/TAMand please themוְדִבַּרְתָּve/dib/bar/TAand speakאֲלֵהֶםa/le/HEMto themדְּבָרִיםde/va/RIMwordsטוֹבִיםto/VIMgoodוְהָיוּve/ha/YUthen they will beלְךָle/KHAto youעֲבָדִיםa/va/DIMservantsכׇּל־הַיָּמִים׃kol-hay/ya/MIMall the days

   And they spake unto him, saying, If thou be kind to this people, and please them, and speak good words to them, they will be thy servants for ever.

8. 8

   וַיַּעֲזֹבvay/ya/a/ZOVbut he forsookאֶת־עֲצַתet-a/TSATthe counsel ofהַזְּקֵנִיםhaz/ze/ke/NIMthe old menאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoיְעָצֻהוּye/a/TSU/huthey had counseled himוַיִּוָּעַץvay/yiv/va/ATSand consultedאֶת־הַיְלָדִיםet-hay/la/DIMwith the young menאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoגָּדְלוּga/de/LUhad grown upאִתּוֹit/TOwith himהָעֹמְדִיםha/om/DIMstandingלְפָנָיו׃le/fa/NAYVbefore him

   But he forsook the counsel which the old men gave him, and took counsel with the young men that were brought up with him, that stood before him.

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֲלֵהֶםa/le/HEMto themמָהmawhatאַתֶּםat/TEMdo youנוֹעָצִיםno/a/TSIMcounselוְנָשִׁיבve/na/SHIVthat we may returnדָּבָרda/VARa wordאֶת־הָעָםet-ha/AMthe peopleהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoדִּבְּרוּdib/be/RUhave spokenאֵלַיe/LAYto meלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingהָקֵלha/KELlightenמִן־הָעֹלmin-ha/OLthe yokeאֲשֶׁר־נָתַןa/SHER-na/TANthat he putאָבִיךָa/VI/khayour fatherעָלֵינוּ׃a/LE/nuupon us

   And he said unto them, What advice give ye that we may return answer to this people, which have spoken to me, saying, Ease somewhat the yoke that thy father did put upon us?

    וַיְדַבְּרוּvay/dab/be/RUand spokeאִתּוֹit/TOwith himהַיְלָדִיםhay/la/DIMthe young menאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoגָּדְלוּga/de/LUhad grown upאִתּוֹit/TOwith himלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingכֹּה־תֹאמַרko-to/MARso shall you sayלָעָםla/AMto the peopleאֲשֶׁר־דִּבְּרוּa/SHER-dib/be/RUwho spokeאֵלֶיךָe/LE/khato youלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingאָבִיךָa/VI/khayour fatherהִכְבִּידhikh/BIDmade heavyאֶת־עֻלֵּנוּet-ul/LE/nuour yokeוְאַתָּהve/at/TAand youהָקֵלha/KELlightenמֵעָלֵינוּme/a/LE/nufrom upon usכֹּהkosoתֹּאמַרto/MARyou shall sayאֲלֵהֶםa/le/HEMto themקׇטׇנִּיko/ton/NImy little fingerעָבָהa/VAis thickerמִמׇּתְנֵיmim/mot/NEthan the loins ofאָבִי׃a/VImy father

    And the young men that were brought up with him spake unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou answer the people that spake unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou it somewhat lighter for us; thus shalt thou say unto them, My little finger shall be thicker than my father's loins.

    וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowאָבִיa/VImy fatherהֶעְמִיסhe/MISloadedעֲלֵיכֶםa/le/KHEMupon youעֹלola yokeכָּבֵדka/VEDheavyוַאֲנִיva/a/NIand Iאֹסִיףo/SIFwill addעַל־עֻלְּכֶםal-ul/le/KHEMupon your yokeאָבִיa/VImy fatherיִסַּרyis/SARchastisedאֶתְכֶםet/KHEMyouבַּשּׁוֹטִיםbash/sho/TIMwith whipsוַאֲנִיva/a/NIand Iבָּעַקְרַבִּים׃ba/ak/rab/BIMwith scorpions

    For whereas my father put a heavy yoke upon you, I will put more to your yoke: my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.

    וַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand cameיָרׇבְעָםYa/rov/AMJeroboamוְכׇל־הָעָםve/KHOL-ha/AMand all the peopleאֶל־רְחַבְעָםel-Re/chav/AMto Rehoboamבַּיּוֹםbay/YOMon the dayהַשְּׁלִשִׁיhash/she/li/SHIthe thirdכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERasדִּבֶּרdib/BERhad spokenהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingשׁוּבוּSHU/vureturnאֵלַיe/LAYto meבַּיּוֹםbay/YOMon the dayהַשְּׁלִשִׁי׃hash/she/li/SHIthe third

    So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam on the third day, as the king bade, saying, Come again to me on the third day.

    וַיַּעֲנֵםvay/ya/a/NEMand answered themהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingקָשָׁהka/SHAharshlyוַיַּעֲזֹבvay/ya/a/ZOVbut he forsookהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingרְחַבְעָםRe/chav/AMRehoboamאֵת־עֲצַתet-a/TSATthe plan ofהַזְּקֵנִים׃haz/ze/ke/NIMthe old men

    And the king answered them roughly; and king Rehoboam forsook the counsel of the old men,

14. 14

    וַיְדַבֵּרvay/dab/BERand spokeאֲלֵהֶםa/le/HEMto themכַּעֲצַתka/a/TSATaccording to the counsel ofהַיְלָדִיםhay/la/DIMthe young menלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingאַכְבִּידakh/BIDI will make heavyאֶת־עֻלְּכֶםet-ul/le/KHEMyour yokeוַאֲנִיva/a/NIand Iאֹסִיףo/SIFwill addעָלָיוa/LAYVto itאָבִיa/VImy fatherיִסַּרyis/SARchastisedאֶתְכֶםet/KHEMyouבַּשּׁוֹטִיםbash/sho/TIMwith whipsוַאֲנִיva/a/NIand Iבָּעַקְרַבִּים׃ba/ak/rab/BIMwith scorpions

    And answered them after the advice of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add thereto: my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.

15. 15

    וְלֹא־שָׁמַעve/LO-sha/MAand did not listenהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingאֶל־הָעָםel-ha/AMto the peopleכִּי־הָיְתָהki-ha/ye/TAfor it wasנְסִבָּהne/sib/BAa turnמֵעִםme/IMfromהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodלְמַעַןle/MA/anthatהָקִיםha/KIMHe might establishיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֶת־דְּבָרוֹet-de/va/ROHis wordאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatדִּבֶּרdib/BERhad spokenבְּיַדbe/YADby the hand ofאֲחִיָּהוּA/chiy/YA/huAhijahהַשִּׁלוֹנִיhash/Shi/lo/NIthe Shiloniteאֶל־יָרׇבְעָםel-Ya/rov/AMto Jeroboamבֶּן־נְבָט׃ben-Ne/VATthe son of Nebat

    So the king hearkened not unto the people: for the cause was of God, that the LORD might perform his word, which he spake by the hand of Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.

    וְכׇל־יִשְׂרָאֵלve/KHOL-yis/ra/ELand all Israelכִּיkiforלֹא־שָׁמַעlo-sha/MAdid not listenהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingלָהֶםla/HEMto themוַיָּשִׁיבוּvay/ya/SHI/vuand answeredהָעָםha/AMthe peopleאֶת־הַמֶּלֶךְet-ham/ME/lekhthe kingלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingמַה־לָּנוּma-LA/nuwhat do we haveחֵלֶקCHE/lekportionבְּדָוִידbe/Da/VIDin Davidוְלֹא־נַחֲלָהve/LO-na/cha/LAand no inheritanceבְּבֶן־יִשַׁיbe/VEN-yi/SHAYin the son of Jesseאִישׁishevery manלְאֹהָלֶיךָle/o/ha/LE/khato your tentsיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelעַתָּהat/TAnowרְאֵהre/Esee toבֵיתְךָve/te/KHAyour houseדָּוִידDa/VIDDavidוַיֵּלֶךְvay/YE/lekhand wentכׇּל־יִשְׂרָאֵלkol-Yis/ra/ELall Israelלְאֹהָלָיו׃le/o/ha/LAYVto his tents

    And when all Israel saw that the king would not hearken unto them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? and we have none inheritance in the son of Jesse: every man to your tents, O Israel: and now, David, see to thine own house. So all Israel went to their tents.

17. 17

    וּבְנֵיu/ve/NEbut the children ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelהַיֹּשְׁבִיםhay/yosh/VIMwho dweltבְּעָרֵיbe/a/REin the cities ofיְהוּדָהYe/hu/DAJudahוַיִּמְלֹךְvay/yim/LOKHreignedעֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMover themרְחַבְעָם׃Re/chav/AMRehoboam

    But as for the children of Israel that dwelt in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.

18. 18

    וַיִּשְׁלַחvay/yish/LACHand sentהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingרְחַבְעָםRe/chav/AMRehoboamאֶת־הֲדֹרָםet-Ha/do/RAMHadoramאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwho wasעַל־הַמַּסal-ham/MASover the forced laborוַיִּרְגְּמוּ־בוֹvay/yir/ge/MU-voand they stoned himבְנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵלve/NE-yis/ra/ELthe children of IsraelאֶבֶןE/venwith stonesוַיָּמֹתvay/ya/MOTand he diedוְהַמֶּלֶךְve/ham/ME/lekhand the kingרְחַבְעָםRe/chav/AMRehoboamהִתְאַמּץhit/AMMTSmade hasteלַעֲלוֹתla/a/LOTto mountבַּמֶּרְכָּבָהbam/mer/ka/VAin the chariotלָנוּסla/NUSto fleeיְרוּשָׁלָ͏ִם׃Ye/ru/sha/LA/yimto Jerusalem

    Then king Rehoboam sent Hadoram that was over the tribute; and the children of Israel stoned him with stones, that he died. But king Rehoboam made speed to get him up to his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.

19. 19

    וַיִּפְשְׁעוּvay/yif/she/Uand rebelledיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelבְּבֵיתbe/VETagainst the house ofדָּוִידDa/VIDDavidעַדaduntilהַיּוֹםhay/YOMthe dayהַזֶּה׃haz/ZEthis

    And Israel rebelled against the house of David unto this day.
