   And the men of Kirjath-jearim came, and fetched up the ark of the LORD, and brought it into the house of Abinadab in the hill, and sanctified Eleazar his son to keep the ark of the LORD.

   And it came to pass, while the ark abode in Kirjath-jearim, that the time was long; for it was twenty years: and all the house of Israel lamented after the LORD.

   And Samuel spake unto all the house of Israel, saying, If ye do return unto the LORD with all your hearts, then put away the strange gods and Ashtaroth from among you, and prepare your hearts unto the LORD, and serve him only: and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines.

   וַיָּסִירוּvay/ya/SI/ruand put awayבְּנֵיbe/NEthe children ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelאֶת־הַבְּעָלִיםet-Hab/be/a/LIMthe Baalimוְאֶת־הָעַשְׁתָּרֹתve/ET-ha/ash/ta/ROTand the Ashtarothוַיַּעַבְדוּvay/ya/av/DUand they servedאֶת־יְהֹוָהet-Adonaithe LORDלְבַדּוֹ׃le/vad/DOalone

   Then the children of Israel did put away Baalim and Ashtaroth, and served the LORD only.

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidשְׁמוּאֵלShe/mu/ELSamuelקִבְצוּkiv/TSUgatherאֶת־כׇּל־יִשְׂרָאֵלet-Kol-yis/ra/ELall Israelהַמִּצְפָּתָהham/Mits/PA/tato Mizpahוְאֶתְפַּלֵּלve/et/pal/LELand I will prayבַּעַדְכֶםba/ad/KHEMfor youאֶל־יְהֹוָה׃el-Adonaito the LORD

   And Samuel said, Gather all Israel to Mizpeh, and I will pray for you unto the LORD.

   וַיִּקָּבְצוּvay/yik/ka/ve/TSUand they gatheredהַמִּצְפָּתָהham/Mits/PA/tato Mizpahוַיִּשְׁאֲבוּ־מַיִםvay/yish/a/VU-MA/yimand they drew waterוַיִּשְׁפְּכוּvay/yish/pe/KHUand poured it outלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDוַיָּצוּמוּvay/ya/TSU/muand they fastedבַּיּוֹםbay/YOMon the dayהַהוּאha/HUthatוַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidשָׁםshamthereחָטָאנוּcha/TA/nuwe have sinnedלַיהֹוָהla-Adonaiagainst the LORDוַיִּשְׁפֹּטvay/yish/POTand judgedשְׁמוּאֵלShe/mu/ELSamuelאֶת־בְּנֵיet-be/NEthe children ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelבַּמִּצְפָּה׃bam/Mits/PAin Mizpah

   And they gathered together to Mizpeh, and drew water, and poured it out before the LORD, and fasted on that day, and said there, We have sinned against the LORD. And Samuel judged the children of Israel in Mizpeh.

   וַיִּשְׁמְעוּvay/yish/me/Uand they heardפְלִשְׁתִּיםFe/lish/TIMthe Philistinesכִּי־הִתְקַבְּצוּki-hit/kab/be/TSUthat had gatheredבְנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵלve/NE-yis/ra/ELthe children of Israelהַמִּצְפָּתָהham/Mits/PA/tato Mizpahוַיַּעֲלוּvay/ya/a/LUwent upסַרְנֵי־פְלִשְׁתִּיםsar/NE-Fe/lish/TIMthe lords of the Philistinesאֶל־יִשְׂרָאֵלel-Yis/ra/ELagainst Israelוַיִּשְׁמְעוּvay/yish/me/Uand they heardבְּנֵיbe/NEthe children ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelוַיִּרְאוּvay/yir/Uand they were afraidמִפְּנֵיmip/pe/NEofפְלִשְׁתִּים׃Fe/lish/TIMthe Philistines

   And when the Philistines heard that the children of Israel were gathered together to Mizpeh, the lords of the Philistines went up against Israel. And when the children of Israel heard it, they were afraid of the Philistines.

   וַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidבְנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵלve/NE-yis/ra/ELthe children of Israelאֶל־שְׁמוּאֵלel-She/mu/ELto Samuelאַל־תַּחֲרֵשׁal-ta/cha/RESHdo not ceaseמִמֶּנּוּmim/MEN/nufor usמִזְּעֹקmiz/ze/OKfrom cryingאֶל־יְהֹוָהel-Adonaito the LORDאֱלֹהֵינוּe/lo/HE/nuour Godוְיֹשִׁעֵנוּve/yo/shi/E/nuthat He may save usמִיַּדmiy/YADfrom the hand ofפְּלִשְׁתִּים׃Pe/lish/TIMthe Philistines

   And the children of Israel said to Samuel, Cease not to cry unto the LORD our God for us, that he will save us out of the hand of the Philistines.

9. 9

   וַיִּקַּחvay/yik/KACHand tookשְׁמוּאֵלShe/mu/ELSamuelטְלֵהte/LEa lambחָלָבcha/LAVsucklingאֶחָדe/CHADone(ויעלה)vaylah[וַיַּעֲלֵהוּ]vay/ya/a/LE/huand offered itעוֹלָהo/LAas a burnt offeringכָּלִילka/LILwholeלַיהֹוָהla-Adonaito the LORDוַיִּזְעַקvay/yiz/AKand criedשְׁמוּאֵלShe/mu/ELSamuelאֶל־יְהֹוָהel-Adonaito the LORDבְּעַדbe/ADforיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelוַיַּעֲנֵהוּvay/ya/a/NE/huand answered himיְהֹוָה׃Adonaithe LORD

   And Samuel took a sucking lamb, and offered it for a burnt offering wholly unto the LORD: and Samuel cried unto the LORD for Israel; and the LORD heard him.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand as wasשְׁמוּאֵלShe/mu/ELSamuelמַעֲלֶהma/a/LEoffering upהָעוֹלָהha/o/LAthe burnt offeringוּפְלִשְׁתִּיםu/Fe/lish/TIMthe Philistinesנִגְּשׁוּnig/ge/SHUdrew nearלַמִּלְחָמָהlam/mil/cha/MAto battleבְּיִשְׂרָאֵלbe/Yis/ra/ELagainst Israelוַיַּרְעֵםvay/yar/EMbut thunderedיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDבְּקוֹל־גָּדוֹלbe/KOL-ga/DOLwith a great voiceבַּיּוֹםbay/YOMon the dayהַהוּאha/HUthatעַל־פְּלִשְׁתִּיםal-Pe/lish/TIMupon the Philistinesוַיְהֻמֵּםvay/hum/MEMand threw them into confusionוַיִּנָּגְפוּvay/yin/na/ge/FUand they were struck downלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeיִשְׂרָאֵל׃Yis/ra/ELIsrael

    And as Samuel was offering up the burnt offering, the Philistines drew near to battle against Israel: but the LORD thundered with a great thunder on that day upon the Philistines, and discomfited them; and they were smitten before Israel.

    וַיֵּצְאוּvay/yets/Uand went outאַנְשֵׁיan/SHEthe men ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelמִן־הַמִּצְפָּהmin-Ham/mits/PAfrom Mizpahוַיִּרְדְּפוּvay/yir/de/FUand pursuedאֶת־פְּלִשְׁתִּיםet-Pe/lish/TIMthe Philistinesוַיַּכּוּםvay/yak/KUMand struck themעַד־מִתַּחַתad-mit/TA/chatas far as belowלְבֵיתLe/VETBeth-כָּר׃karkar

    And the men of Israel went out of Mizpeh, and pursued the Philistines, and smote them, until they came under Beth-car.

12. 12

    וַיִּקַּחvay/yik/KACHand tookשְׁמוּאֵלShe/mu/ELSamuelאֶבֶןE/vena stoneאַחַתa/CHAToneוַיָּשֶׂםvay/YA/semand set itבֵּין־הַמִּצְפָּהben-Ham/mits/PAbetween Mizpahוּבֵיןu/VENand betweenהַשֵּׁןHash/SHENShenוַיִּקְרָאvay/yik/RAand calledאֶת־שְׁמָהּet-she/MAits nameאֶבֶןE/venEben-הָעָזֶרha/A/zerezerוַיֹּאמַרvay/yo/MARand saidעַד־הֵנָּהad-HEN/nauntil nowעֲזָרָנוּa/za/RA/nuhas helped usיְהֹוָה׃Adonaithe LORD

    Then Samuel took a stone, and set it between Mizpeh and Shen, and called the name of it Eben-ezer, saying, Hitherto hath the LORD helped us.

13. 13

    וַיִּכָּנְעוּvay/yik/ka/ne/Uand were subduedהַפְּלִשְׁתִּיםhap/Pe/lish/TIMthe Philistinesוְלֹא־יָסְפוּve/LO-ya/se/FUand did not againעוֹדodanymoreלָבוֹאla/VOcomeבִּגְבוּלbig/VULinto the territory ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelוַתְּהִיvat/te/HIand wasיַד־יְהֹוָהyad-Adonaithe hand of the LORDבַּפְּלִשְׁתִּיםbap/Pe/lish/TIMagainst the Philistinesכֹּלkolallיְמֵיye/MEthe days ofשְׁמוּאֵל׃She/mu/ELSamuel

    So the Philistines were subdued, and they came no more into the coast of Israel: and the hand of the LORD was against the Philistines all the days of Samuel.

14. 14

    וַתָּשֹׁבְנָהvat/ta/SHOV/naand were restoredהֶעָרִיםhe/a/RIMthe citiesאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichלָקְחוּ־פְלִשְׁתִּיםla/Ke/CHU-fe/lish/TIMthe Philistines had takenמֵאֵתme/ETfromיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelלְיִשְׂרָאֵלle/Yis/ra/ELto Israelמֵעֶקְרוֹןme/Ek/RONfrom Ekronוְעַד־גַּתve/AD-gatand to Gathוְאֶת־גְּבוּלָןve/ET-ge/vu/LANand their territoryהִצִּילhits/TSILdeliveredיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelמִיַּדmiy/YADfrom the hand ofפְּלִשְׁתִּיםPe/lish/TIMthe Philistinesוַיְהִיvay/HIand there wasשָׁלוֹםsha/LOMpeaceבֵּיןbenbetweenיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelוּבֵיןu/VENand betweenהָאֱמֹרִי׃ha/E/mo/RIthe Amorite

    And the cities which the Philistines had taken from Israel were restored to Israel, from Ekron even unto Gath; and the coasts thereof did Israel deliver out of the hands of the Philistines. And there was peace between Israel and the Amorites.

15. 15

    וַיִּשְׁפֹּטvay/yish/POTand judgedשְׁמוּאֵלShe/mu/ELSamuelאֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵלet-Yis/ra/ELIsraelכֹּלkolallיְמֵיye/MEthe days ofחַיָּיו׃chay/YAYVhis life

    And Samuel judged Israel all the days of his life.

16. 16

    וְהָלַךְve/ha/LAKHand he wentמִדֵּיmid/DEas often asשָׁנָהsha/NAyearבְּשָׁנָהbe/sha/NAby yearוְסָבַבve/sa/VAVand went aroundבֵּית־אֵלBet-elBeth-elוְהַגִּלְגָּלve/hag/Gil/GALand Gilgalוְהַמִּצְפָּהve/ham/Mits/PAand Mizpahוְשָׁפַטve/sha/FATand judgedאֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵלet-Yis/ra/ELIsraelאֵת־כׇּל־הַמְּקוֹמוֹתet-kol-ham/me/ko/MOTin all the placesהָאֵלֶּה׃ha/EL/lethese

    And he went from year to year in circuit to Beth-el, and Gilgal, and Mizpeh, and judged Israel in all those places.

17. 17

    וּתְשֻׁבָתוֹu/te/shu/va/TOand his returnהָרָמָתָהha/Ra/MA/tato Ramahכִּי־שָׁםki-shamfor there wasבֵּיתוֹbe/TOhis houseוְשָׁםve/SHAMand thereשָׁפָטsha/FAThe judgedאֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵלet-Yis/ra/ELIsraelוַיִּבֶן־שָׁםvay/YI/ven-shamand he built thereמִזְבֵּחַmiz/BE/achan altarלַיהֹוָה׃la-Adonaito the LORD

    And his return was to Ramah; for there was his house; and there he judged Israel; and there he built an altar unto the LORD.
