   וַיְהִיvay/HIand wasאֲרוֹן־יְהֹוָהa/RON-Adonaithe ark of the LORDבִּשְׂדֵהbis/DEin the country ofפְלִשְׁתִּיםFe/lish/TIMthe Philistinesשִׁבְעָהshiv/Asevenחֳדָשִׁים׃cho/da/SHIMmonths

   And the ark of the LORD was in the country of the Philistines seven months.

2. 2

   וַיִּקְרְאוּvay/yik/re/Uand they calledפְלִשְׁתִּיםFe/lish/TIMthe Philistinesלַכֹּהֲנִיםlak/ko/ha/NIMfor the priestsוְלַקֹּסְמִיםve/lak/kos/MIMand the divinersלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingמַה־נַּעֲשֶׂהma-na/a/SEwhat shall we doלַאֲרוֹןla/a/RONwith the ark ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDהוֹדִעֻנוּho/di/U/nutell usבַּמֶּהbam/MEwith whatנְשַׁלְּחֶנּוּne/shal/le/CHEN/nuwe shall send itלִמְקוֹמוֹ׃lim/ko/MOto its place

   And the Philistines called for the priests and the diviners, saying, What shall we do to the ark of the LORD? tell us wherewith we shall send it to his place.

   וַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidאִם־מְשַׁלְּחִיםim-me/shal/le/CHIMif you send awayאֶת־אֲרוֹןet-a/RONthe ark ofאֱלֹהֵיe/lo/HEthe God ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelאַל־תְּשַׁלְּחוּal-te/shal/le/CHUdo not sendאֹתוֹo/TOitרֵיקָםre/KAMemptyכִּי־הָשֵׁבki-ha/SHEVbut returnתָּשִׁיבוּta/SHI/vuyou shall returnלוֹloto Himאָשָׁםa/SHAMa guilt offeringאָזazthenתֵּרָפְאוּte/ra/fe/Uyou shall be healedוְנוֹדַעve/no/DAand it shall be knownלָכֶםla/KHEMto youלָמָּהLAM/mawhyלֹא־תָסוּרlo-ta/SURis not removedיָדוֹya/DOHis handמִכֶּם׃mik/KEMfrom you

   And they said, If ye send away the ark of the God of Israel, send it not empty; but in any wise return him a trespass offering: then ye shall be healed, and it shall be known to you why his hand is not removed from you.

   וַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidמָהmawhat isהָאָשָׁםha/a/SHAMthe guilt offeringאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatנָשִׁיבna/SHIVwe shall returnלוֹloto Himוַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidמִסְפַּרmis/PARaccording to the number ofסַרְנֵיsar/NEthe lords ofפְלִשְׁתִּיםFe/lish/TIMthe Philistinesחֲמִשָּׁהcha/mish/SHAfive[טְחֹרֵי]te/cho/REtumors ofזָהָבza/HAVgoldוַחֲמִשָּׁהva/cha/mish/SHAand fiveעַכְבְּרֵיakh/be/REmice ofזָהָבza/HAVgoldכִּי־מַגֵּפָהki-mag/ge/FAfor plagueאַחַתa/CHAToneלְכֻלָּםle/khul/LAMon all of themוּלְסַרְנֵיכֶם׃u/le/sar/ne/KHEMand on your lords

   Then said they, What shall be the trespass offering which we shall return to him? They answered, Five golden emerods, and five golden mice, according to the number of the lords of the Philistines: for one plague was on you all, and on your lords.

   וַעֲשִׂיתֶםva/a/si/TEMand you shall makeצַלְמֵיtsal/MEimages of[טְחֹרֵיכֶם]te/cho/re/KHEMyour tumorsוְצַלְמֵיve/tsal/MEand images ofעַכְבְּרֵיכֶםakh/be/re/KHEMyour miceהַמַּשְׁחִיתִםham/mash/chi/TIMthat destroyאֶת־הָאָרֶץet-ha/A/retsthe landוּנְתַתֶּםu/ne/tat/TEMand you shall giveלֵאלֹהֵיle/lo/HEto the God ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelכָּבוֹדka/VODgloryאוּלַיu/LAYperhapsיָקֵלya/KELHe will lightenאֶת־יָדוֹet-ya/DOHis handמֵעֲלֵיכֶםme/a/le/KHEMfrom upon youוּמֵעַלu/me/ALand from offאֱלֹהֵיכֶםe/lo/he/KHEMyour godsוּמֵעַלu/me/ALand from offאַרְצְכֶם׃ar/tse/KHEMyour land

   Wherefore ye shall make images of your emerods, and images of your mice that mar the land; and ye shall give glory unto the God of Israel: peradventure he will lighten his hand from off you, and from off your gods, and from off your land.

   Wherefore then do ye harden your hearts, as the Egyptians and Pharaoh hardened their hearts? when he had wrought wonderfully among them, did they not let the people go, and they departed?

   וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowקְחוּke/CHUtakeוַעֲשׂוּva/a/SUand makeעֲגָלָהa/ga/LAa cartחֲדָשָׁהcha/da/SHAnewאֶחָתe/CHAToneוּשְׁתֵּיush/TEand twoפָרוֹתfa/ROTcowsעָלוֹתa/LOTmilchאֲשֶׁרa/SHERon whichלֹא־עָלָהlo-a/LAhas never comeעֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMupon themעֹלola yokeוַאֲסַרְתֶּםva/a/sar/TEMand tieאֶת־הַפָּרוֹתet-hap/pa/ROTthe cowsבָּעֲגָלָהba/a/ga/LAto the cartוַהֲשֵׁיבֹתֶםva/ha/she/vo/TEMand bring backבְּנֵיהֶםbe/ne/HEMtheir calvesמֵאַחֲרֵיהֶםme/a/cha/re/HEMfrom behind themהַבָּיְתָה׃hab/BAY/tahome

   Now therefore make a new cart, and take two milch kine, on which there hath come no yoke, and tie the kine to the cart, and bring their calves home from them:

   וּלְקַחְתֶּםu/le/kach/TEMand takeאֶת־אֲרוֹןet-a/RONthe ark ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDוּנְתַתֶּםu/ne/tat/TEMand putאֹתוֹo/TOitאֶל־הָעֲגָלָהel-ha/a/ga/LAon the cartוְאֵתve/ETandכְּלֵיke/LEthe articles ofהַזָּהָבhaz/za/HAVgoldאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichהֲשֵׁבֹתֶםha/she/vo/TEMyou returnלוֹloto Himאָשָׁםa/SHAMas a guilt offeringתָּשִׂימוּta/SI/muputבָאַרְגַּזva/ar/GAZin a boxמִצִּדּוֹmits/tsid/DOby its sideוְשִׁלַּחְתֶּםve/shil/lach/TEMand send awayאֹתוֹo/TOitוְהָלָךְ׃ve/ha/LAKHthat it may go

   And take the ark of the LORD, and lay it upon the cart; and put the jewels of gold, which ye return him for a trespass offering, in a coffer by the side thereof; and send it away, that it may go.

   וּרְאִיתֶםu/re/i/TEMand watchאִם־דֶּרֶךְim-DE/rekhif by the way toגְּבוּלוֹge/vu/LOits own territoryיַעֲלֶהya/a/LEit goes upבֵּיתBetto Beth-שֶׁמֶשׁSHE/meshshemeshהוּאhuHeעָשָׂהa/SAhas doneלָנוּLA/nuto usאֶת־הָרָעָהet-ha/ra/Athe evilהַגְּדוֹלָהhag/ge/do/LAgreatהַזֹּאתhaz/ZOTthisוְאִם־לֹאve/IM-lobut if notוְיָדַעְנוּve/ya/DA/nuthen we shall knowכִּיkithatלֹאlonotיָדוֹya/DOHis handנָגְעָהNAG/atouchedבָּנוּBA/nuusמִקְרֶהmik/REa chanceהוּאhuitהָיָהha/YAwasלָנוּ׃LA/nuto us

   And see, if it goeth up by the way of his own coast to Beth-shemesh, then he hath done us this great evil: but if not, then we shall know that it is not his hand that smote us; it was a chance that happened to us.

    וַיַּעֲשׂוּvay/ya/a/SUand didהָאֲנָשִׁיםha/a/na/SHIMthe menכֵּןkensoוַיִּקְחוּvay/yik/CHUand they tookשְׁתֵּיshtetwoפָרוֹתfa/ROTcowsעָלוֹתa/LOTmilchוַיַּאַסְרוּםvay/ya/as/RUMand tied themבָּעֲגָלָהba/a/ga/LAto the cartוְאֶת־בְּנֵיהֶםve/ET-be/ne/HEMand their calvesכָּלוּka/LUthey shut upבַבָּיִת׃vab/BA/yitat home

    And the men did so; and took two milch kine, and tied them to the cart, and shut up their calves at home:

    וַיָּשִׂמוּvay/ya/SI/muand they putאֶת־אֲרוֹןet-a/RONthe ark ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֶל־הָעֲגָלָהel-ha/a/ga/LAon the cartוְאֵתve/ETandהָאַרְגַּזha/ar/GAZthe boxוְאֵתve/ETandעַכְבְּרֵיakh/be/REthe mice ofהַזָּהָבhaz/za/HAVgoldוְאֵתve/ETandצַלְמֵיtsal/MEthe images ofטְחֹרֵיהֶם׃te/cho/re/HEMtheir tumors

    And they laid the ark of the LORD upon the cart, and the coffer with the mice of gold and the images of their emerods.

    וַיִּשַּׁרְנָהvay/yish/SHAR/naand went straightהַפָּרוֹתhap/pa/ROTthe cowsבַּדֶּרֶךְbad/DE/rekhon the wayעַל־דֶּרֶךְal-DE/rekhon the road toבֵּיתBetBeth-שֶׁמֶשׁSHE/meshshemeshבִּמְסִלָּהbim/sil/LAalong the highwayאַחַתa/CHAToneהָלְכוּha/le/KHUthey wentהָלֹךְha/LOKHgoוְגָעוֹve/ga/Oand lowוְלֹא־סָרוּve/LO-SA/ruand did not turn asideיָמִיןya/MINto the rightוּשְׂמֹאולus/MOLor to the leftוְסַרְנֵיve/sar/NEand the lords ofפְלִשְׁתִּיםFe/lish/TIMthe Philistinesהֹלְכִיםhol/KHIMwere goingאַחֲרֵיהֶםa/cha/re/HEMafter themעַד־גְּבוּלad-ge/VULto the border ofבֵּיתBetBeth-שָׁמֶשׁ׃SHA/meshshemesh

    And the kine took the straight way to the way of Beth-shemesh, and went along the highway, lowing as they went, and turned not aside to the right hand or to the left; and the lords of the Philistines went after them unto the border of Beth-shemesh.

13. 13

    וּבֵיתu/VETnow Beth-שֶׁמֶשׁSHE/meshshemeshקֹצְרִיםkots/RIMwere reapingקְצִיר־חִטִּיםke/TSIR-chit/TIMthe wheat harvestבָּעֵמֶקba/E/mekin the valleyוַיִּשְׂאוּvay/yis/Uand they lifted upאֶת־עֵינֵיהֶםet-e/ne/HEMtheir eyesוַיִּרְאוּvay/yir/Uand they sawאֶת־הָאָרוֹןet-ha/a/RONthe arkוַיִּשְׂמְחוּvay/yis/me/CHUand they rejoicedלִרְאוֹת׃lir/OTto see it

    And they of Beth-shemesh were reaping their wheat harvest in the valley: and they lifted up their eyes, and saw the ark, and rejoiced to see it.

    וְהָעֲגָלָהve/ha/a/ga/LAand the cartבָּאָהba/Acameאֶל־שְׂדֵהel-se/DEto the field ofיְהוֹשֻׁעַYe/ho/SHU/aJoshuaבֵּית־הַשִּׁמְשִׁיbet-Hash/shim/SHIthe Beth-shemiteוַתַּעֲמֹדvat/ta/a/MODand stoodשָׁםshamthereוְשָׁםve/SHAMand thereאֶבֶןE/vena stoneגְּדוֹלָהge/do/LAgreatוַיְבַקְּעוּvay/vak/ke/Uand they splitאֶת־עֲצֵיet-a/TSEthe wood ofהָעֲגָלָהha/a/ga/LAthe cartוְאֶת־הַפָּרוֹתve/ET-hap/pa/ROTand the cowsהֶעֱלוּhe/e/LUthey offered upעֹלָהo/LAas a burnt offeringלַיהֹוָה׃la-Adonaito the LORD

    And the cart came into the field of Joshua, a Beth-shemite, and stood there, where there was a great stone: and they clave the wood of the cart, and offered the kine a burnt offering unto the LORD.

    וְהַלְוִיִּםVe/hal/viy/YIMand the Levitesהוֹרִידוּho/RI/dutook downאֶת־אֲרוֹןet-a/RONthe ark ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDוְאֶת־הָאַרְגַּזve/ET-ha/ar/GAZand the boxאֲשֶׁר־אִתּוֹa/SHER-it/TOthat was with itאֲשֶׁר־בּוֹa/SHER-boin which wereכְלֵי־זָהָבkhe/LE-za/HAVthe articles of goldוַיָּשִׂמוּvay/ya/SI/muand put themאֶל־הָאֶבֶןel-ha/E/venon the stoneהַגְּדוֹלָהhag/ge/do/LAgreatוְאַנְשֵׁיve/an/SHEand the men ofבֵית־שֶׁמֶשׁVet-SHE/meshBeth-shemeshהֶעֱלוּhe/e/LUofferedעֹלוֹתo/LOTburnt offeringsוַיִּזְבְּחוּvay/yiz/be/CHUand sacrificedזְבָחִיםze/va/CHIMsacrificesבַּיּוֹםbay/YOMon the dayהַהוּאha/HUthatלַיהֹוָה׃la-Adonaito the LORD

    And the Levites took down the ark of the LORD, and the coffer that was with it, wherein the jewels of gold were, and put them on the great stone: and the men of Beth-shemesh offered burnt offerings and sacrificed sacrifices the same day unto the LORD.

16. 16

    וַחֲמִשָּׁהva/cha/mish/SHAand when the fiveסַרְנֵי־פְלִשְׁתִּיםsar/NE-Fe/lish/TIMthe lords of the Philistinesרָאוּra/Uhad seen itוַיָּשֻׁבוּvay/ya/SHU/vuand they returnedעֶקְרוֹןEk/RONto Ekronבַּיּוֹםbay/YOMon the dayהַהוּא׃ha/HUthat

    And when the five lords of the Philistines had seen it, they returned to Ekron the same day.

    וְאֵלֶּהve/EL/leand these areטְחֹרֵיte/cho/REthe tumors ofהַזָּהָבhaz/za/HAVgoldאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichהֵשִׁיבוּhe/SHI/vureturnedפְלִשְׁתִּיםFe/lish/TIMthe Philistinesאָשָׁםa/SHAMfor a guilt offeringלַיהֹוָהla-Adonaito the LORDלְאַשְׁדּוֹדle/Ash/DODfor Ashdodאֶחָדe/CHADoneלְעַזָּהle/Az/ZAfor Gazaאֶחָדe/CHADoneלְאַשְׁקְלוֹןle/Ash/ke/LONfor Ashkelonאֶחָדe/CHADoneלְגַתle/GATfor Gathאֶחָדe/CHADoneלְעֶקְרוֹןle/Ek/RONfor Ekronאֶחָד׃e/CHADone

    And these are the golden emerods which the Philistines returned for a trespass offering unto the LORD; for Ashdod one, for Gaza one, for Askelon one, for Gath one, for Ekron one;

    וְעַכְבְּרֵיve/akh/be/REand the mice ofהַזָּהָבhaz/za/HAVgoldמִסְפַּרmis/PARaccording to the number ofכׇּל־עָרֵיkol-a/REall the cities ofפְלִשְׁתִּיםFe/lish/TIMthe Philistinesלַחֲמֵשֶׁתla/cha/ME/shetbelonging to the fiveהַסְּרָנִיםhas/se/ra/NIMlordsמֵעִירme/IRfrom city ofמִבְצָרmiv/TSARfortressוְעַדve/ADand toכֹּפֶרKO/fervillage ofהַפְּרָזִיhap/pe/ra/ZIthe open countryוְעַדve/ADand toאָבֵלA/VELAbelהַגְּדוֹלָהhag/ge/do/LAthe greatאֲשֶׁרa/SHERon whichהִנִּיחוּhin/NI/chuthey setעָלֶיהָa/LE/haon itאֵת־אֲרוֹןet-a/RONthe ark ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDעַדadtoהַיּוֹםhay/YOMdayהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisבִּשְׂדֵהbis/DEis in the field ofיְהוֹשֻׁעַYe/ho/SHU/aJoshuaבֵּיתBetthe Beth-הַשִּׁמְשִׁי׃hash/shim/SHIshemite

    And the golden mice, according to the number of all the cities of the Philistines belonging to the five lords, both of fenced cities, and of country villages, even unto the great stone of Abel, whereon they set down the ark of the LORD: which stone remaineth unto this day in the field of Joshua, the Beth-shemite.

    וַיַּךְvay/YAKHand He struckבְּאַנְשֵׁיbe/an/SHEamong the men ofבֵית־שֶׁמֶשׁVet-SHE/meshBeth-shemeshכִּיkibecauseרָאוּra/Uthey had lookedבַּאֲרוֹןba/a/RONinto the ark ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDוַיַּךְvay/YAKHand He struckבָּעָםba/AMof the peopleשִׁבְעִיםshiv/IMseventyאִישׁishmenחֲמִשִּׁיםcha/mish/SHIMfiftyאֶלֶףE/lefthousandאִישׁishmenוַיִּתְאַבְּלוּvay/yit/ab/be/LUand mournedהָעָםha/AMthe peopleכִּי־הִכָּהki-hik/KAbecause had struckיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDבָּעָםba/AMof the peopleמַכָּהmak/KAwith a slaughterגְדוֹלָה׃ge/do/LAgreat

    And he smote the men of Beth-shemesh, because they had looked into the ark of the LORD, even he smote of the people fifty thousand and threescore and ten men: and the people lamented, because the LORD had smitten many of the people with a great slaughter.

    וַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand saidאַנְשֵׁיan/SHEthe men ofבֵית־שֶׁמֶשׁVet-SHE/meshBeth-shemeshמִיmiwhoיוּכַלyu/KHALis ableלַעֲמֹדla/a/MODto standלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodהַקָּדוֹשׁhak/ka/DOSHholyהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisוְאֶל־מִיve/EL-miand to whomיַעֲלֶהya/a/LEshall He go upמֵעָלֵינוּ׃me/a/LE/nufrom us

    And the men of Beth-shemesh said, Who is able to stand before this holy LORD God? and to whom shall he go up from us?

21. 21

    וַיִּשְׁלְחוּvay/yish/le/CHUand sentמַלְאָכִיםmal/a/KHIMmessengersאֶל־יוֹשְׁבֵיel-yosh/VEto the inhabitants ofקִרְיַת־יְעָרִיםKir/YAT-ye/a/RIMKiriath-jearimלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingהֵשִׁבוּhe/SHI/vuhave returnedפְלִשְׁתִּיםFe/lish/TIMthe Philistinesאֶת־אֲרוֹןet-a/RONthe ark ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDרְדוּre/DUcome downהַעֲלוּha/a/LUbring upאֹתוֹo/TOitאֲלֵיכֶם׃a/le/KHEMto you

    And they sent messengers to the inhabitants of Kirjath-jearim, saying, The Philistines have brought again the ark of the LORD; come ye down, and fetch it up to you.
