   Now the Philistines fought against Israel: and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain in mount Gilboa.

   וַיַּדְבְּקוּvay/yad/be/KUand overtookפְלִשְׁתִּיםFe/lish/TIMthe Philistinesאֶת־שָׁאוּלet-Sha/ULSaulוְאֶת־בָּנָיוve/ET-ba/NAYVand his sonsוַיַּכּוּvay/yak/KUand killedפְלִשְׁתִּיםFe/lish/TIMthe Philistinesאֶת־יְהוֹנָתָןet-Ye/ho/na/TANJonathanוְאֶת־אֲבִינָדָבve/ET-a/vi/na/DAVand Abinadabוְאֶת־מַלְכִּישׁוּעַve/ET-mal/ki/SHU/aand Malchi-shuaבְּנֵיbe/NEthe sons ofשָׁאוּל׃Sha/ULSaul

   And the Philistines followed hard upon Saul and upon his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchi-shua, Saul's sons.

   וַתִּכְבַּדvat/tikh/BADand went hardהַמִּלְחָמָהham/mil/cha/MAthe battleאֶל־שָׁאוּלel-Sha/ULagainst Saulוַיִּמְצָאֻהוּvay/yim/tsa/U/huand found himהַמּוֹרִיםham/mo/RIMthe archersאֲנָשִׁיםa/na/SHIMmenבַּקָּשֶׁתbak/KA/shetwith the bowוַיָּחֶלvay/YA/cheland he was in anguishמְאֹדme/ODgreatlyמֵהַמּוֹרִים׃me/ham/mo/RIMbecause of the archers

   And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers hit him; and he was sore wounded of the archers.

   Then said Saul unto his armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith; lest these uncircumcised come and thrust me through, and abuse me. But his armourbearer would not; for he was sore afraid. Therefore Saul took a sword, and fell upon it.

   וַיַּרְאvay/YARand sawנֹשֵׂא־כֵלָיוno/SE-khe/LAYVhis armor-bearerכִּיkithatמֵתmetwas deadשָׁאוּלSha/ULSaulוַיִּפֹּלvay/yip/POLand fellגַּם־הוּאgam-huhe alsoעַל־חַרְבּוֹal-char/BOupon his swordוַיָּמׇתvay/YA/motand diedעִמּוֹ׃im/MOwith him

   And when his armourbearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise upon his sword, and died with him.

   So Saul died, and his three sons, and his armourbearer, and all his men, that same day together.

   וַיִּרְאוּvay/yir/Uand sawאַנְשֵׁי־יִשְׂרָאֵלan/SHE-Yis/ra/ELthe men of Israelאֲשֶׁר־בְּעֵבֶרa/SHER-be/E/verwho were on the other side ofהָעֵמֶקha/E/mekthe valleyוַאֲשֶׁרva/a/SHERand who wereבְּעֵבֶרbe/E/verbeyondהַיַּרְדֵּןhay/Yar/DENthe Jordanכִּי־נָסוּki-NA/suthat had fledאַנְשֵׁיan/SHEthe men ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelוְכִי־מֵתוּve/KHI-ME/tuand that were deadשָׁאוּלSha/ULSaulוּבָנָיוu/va/NAYVand his sonsוַיַּעַזְבוּvay/ya/az/VUthey abandonedאֶת־הֶעָרִיםet-he/a/RIMthe citiesוַיָּנֻסוּvay/ya/NU/suand they fledוַיָּבֹאוּvay/ya/VO/uand they cameפְלִשְׁתִּיםFe/lish/TIMthe Philistinesוַיֵּשְׁבוּvay/yesh/VUand livedבָּהֶן׃ba/HENin them

   And when the men of Israel that were on the other side of the valley, and they that were on the other side Jordan, saw that the men of Israel fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook the cities, and fled; and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.

   וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passמִמׇּחֳרָתmim/mo/cho/RATon the next dayוַיָּבֹאוּvay/ya/VO/uthat cameפְלִשְׁתִּיםFe/lish/TIMthe Philistinesלְפַשֵּׁטle/fash/SHETto stripאֶת־הַחֲלָלִיםet-ha/cha/la/LIMthe slainוַיִּמְצְאוּvay/yim/tse/Uand they foundאֶת־שָׁאוּלet-Sha/ULSaulוְאֶת־שְׁלֹשֶׁתve/ET-she/LO/shetand his threeבָּנָיוba/NAYVsonsנֹפְלִיםnof/LIMfallenבְּהַרbe/HARon Mountהַגִּלְבֹּעַ׃Hag/gil/BO/aGilboa

   And it came to pass on the morrow, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his three sons fallen in mount Gilboa.

   וַיִּכְרְתוּvay/yikh/re/TUand they cut offאֶת־רֹאשׁוֹet-ro/SHOhis headוַיַּפְשִׁטוּvay/yaf/SHI/tuand stripped offאֶת־כֵּלָיוet-ke/LAYVhis armorוַיְשַׁלְּחוּvay/shal/le/CHUand sentבְאֶרֶץ־פְּלִשְׁתִּיםve/E/rets-pe/lish/TIMinto the land of the Philistinesסָבִיבsa/VIVround aboutלְבַשֵּׂרle/vas/SERto carry the news toבֵּיתbetthe house ofעֲצַבֵּיהֶםa/tsab/be/HEMtheir idolsוְאֶת־הָעָם׃ve/ET-ha/AMand to the people

   And they cut off his head, and stripped off his armour, and sent into the land of the Philistines round about, to publish it in the house of their idols, and among the people.

    וַיָּשִׂימוּvay/ya/SI/muand they putאֶת־כֵּלָיוet-ke/LAYVhis armorבֵּיתbetin the house ofעַשְׁתָּרוֹתAsh/ta/ROTAshtarothוְאֶת־גְּוִיָּתוֹve/ET-ge/viy/ya/TOand his bodyתָּקְעוּta/ke/Uthey fastenedבְּחוֹמַתbe/cho/MATto the wall ofבֵּיתBetBeth-שָׁן׃shanshan

    And they put his armour in the house of Ashtaroth: and they fastened his body to the wall of Beth-shan.

    וַיִּשְׁמְעוּvay/yish/me/Uand when heardאֵלָיוe/LAYVconcerning himיֹשְׁבֵיyosh/VEthe inhabitants ofיָבֵישׁYa/VESHJabesh-גִּלְעָדgil/ADgileadאֵת־אֲשֶׁר־עָשׂוּet-a/SHER-a/SUwhat had doneפְלִשְׁתִּיםFe/lish/TIMthe Philistinesלְשָׁאוּל׃le/Sha/ULto Saul

    And when the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead heard of that which the Philistines had done to Saul;

    וַיָּקוּמוּvay/ya/KU/muaroseכׇּל־אִישׁkol-ishall the men ofחַיִלCHA/yilvalorוַיֵּלְכוּvay/yel/KHUand they wentכׇל־הַלַּיְלָהkhol-hal/LAY/laall nightוַיִּקְחוּvay/yik/CHUand they tookאֶת־גְּוִיַּתet-ge/viy/YATthe body ofשָׁאוּלSha/ULSaulוְאֵתve/ETandגְּוִיֹּתge/viy/YOTthe bodies ofבָּנָיוba/NAYVhis sonsמֵחוֹמַתme/cho/MATfrom the wall ofבֵּיתBetBeth-שָׁןshanshanוַיָּבֹאוּvay/ya/VO/uand they cameיָבֵשָׁהYa/VE/shato Jabeshוַיִּשְׂרְפוּvay/yis/re/FUand they burnedאֹתָםo/TAMthemשָׁם׃shamthere

    All the valiant men arose, and went all night, and took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Beth-shan, and came to Jabesh, and burnt them there.

    וַיִּקְחוּvay/yik/CHUand they tookאֶת־עַצְמֹתֵיהֶםet-ats/mo/te/HEMtheir bonesוַיִּקְבְּרוּvay/yik/be/RUand buried themתַחַת־הָאֶשֶׁלTA/chat-ha/E/shelunder the tamariskבְּיָבֵשָׁהbe/Ya/VE/shaat Jabeshוַיָּצֻמוּvay/ya/TSU/muand they fastedשִׁבְעַתshiv/ATsevenיָמִים׃ya/MIMdays

    And they took their bones, and buried them under a tree at Jabesh, and fasted seven days.
