    And it came to pass after these things, that Naboth the Jezreelite had a vineyard, which was in Jezreel, hard by the palace of Ahab king of Samaria.

    וַיְדַבֵּרvay/dab/BERand spokeאַחְאָבAch/AVAhabאֶל־נָבוֹתel-Na/VOTto Nabothלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingתְּנָה־לִּיte/NA-ligive meאֶת־כַּרְמְךָet-kar/me/KHAyour vineyardוִיהִי־לִיvi/HI-lithat it may be mineלְגַן־יָרָקle/GAN-ya/RAKfor a vegetable gardenכִּיkiforהוּאhuit isקָרוֹבka/ROVnearאֵצֶלE/tselbesideבֵּיתִיbe/TImy houseוְאֶתְּנָהve/et/te/NAand I will giveלְךָle/KHAyouתַּחְתָּיוtach/TAYVin its placeכֶּרֶםKE/rema vineyardטוֹבtovbetterמִמֶּנּוּmim/MEN/nuthan itאִםimifטוֹבtovgoodבְּעֵינֶיךָbe/e/NE/khain your eyesאֶתְּנָה־לְךָet/te/NA-le/KHAI will give youכֶסֶףKHE/sefsilverמְחִירme/CHIRthe price ofזֶה׃zeit

    And Ahab spake unto Naboth, saying, Give me thy vineyard, that I may have it for a garden of herbs, because it is near unto my house: and I will give thee for it a better vineyard than it; or, if it seem good to thee, I will give thee the worth of it in money.

    And Naboth said to Ahab, The LORD forbid it me, that I should give the inheritance of my fathers unto thee.

    וַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand cameאַחְאָבAch/AVAhabאֶל־בֵּיתוֹel-be/TOto his houseסַרsarsullenוְזָעֵףve/za/EFand furiousעַל־הַדָּבָרal-had/da/VARbecause of the wordאֲשֶׁר־דִּבֶּרa/SHER-dib/BERthat had spokenאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himנָבוֹתNa/VOTNabothהַיִּזְרְעֵאלִיhay/Yiz/re/e/LIthe Jezreeliteוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidלֹא־אֶתֵּןlo-et/TENI will not giveלְךָle/KHAyouאֶת־נַחֲלַתet-na/cha/LATthe inheritance ofאֲבוֹתָיa/vo/TAYmy fathersוַיִּשְׁכַּבvay/yish/KAVand he lay downעַל־מִטָּתוֹal-mit/ta/TOupon his bedוַיַּסֵּבvay/yas/SEVand turned awayאֶת־פָּנָיוet-pa/NAYVhis faceוְלֹא־אָכַלve/LO-a/KHALand would not eatלָחֶם׃LA/chembread

    And Ahab came into his house heavy and displeased because of the word which Naboth the Jezreelite had spoken to him: for he had said, I will not give thee the inheritance of my fathers. And he laid him down upon his bed, and turned away his face, and would eat no bread.

    וַתָּבֹאvat/ta/VOand cameאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himאִיזֶבֶלI/ZE/velJezebelאִשְׁתּוֹish/TOhis wifeוַתְּדַבֵּרvat/te/dab/BERand she spokeאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himמַה־זֶּהma-zewhy isרוּחֲךָru/cha/KHAyour spiritסָרָהsa/RAsullenוְאֵינְךָve/e/ne/KHAthat you are notאֹכֵלo/KHELeatingלָחֶם׃LA/chembread

    But Jezebel his wife came to him, and said unto him, Why is thy spirit so sad, that thou eatest no bread?

    וַיְדַבֵּרvay/dab/BERand spokeאֵלֶיהָe/LE/hato herכִּי־אֲדַבֵּרki-a/dab/BERbecause I spokeאֶל־נָבוֹתel-Na/VOTto Nabothהַיִּזְרְעֵאלִיhay/Yiz/re/e/LIthe Jezreeliteוָאֹמַרva/o/MARand I saidלוֹloto himתְּנָה־לִּיte/NA-ligive meאֶת־כַּרְמְךָet-kar/me/KHAyour vineyardבְּכֶסֶףbe/KHE/seffor silverאוֹoorאִם־חָפֵץim-cha/FETSif it pleasesאַתָּהat/TAyouאֶתְּנָה־לְךָet/te/NA-le/KHAI will give youכֶרֶםKHE/rema vineyardתַּחְתָּיוtach/TAYVin its placeוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidלֹא־אֶתֵּןlo-et/TENI will not giveלְךָle/KHAyouאֶת־כַּרְמִי׃et-kar/MImy vineyard

    And he said unto her, Because I spake unto Naboth the Jezreelite, and said unto him, Give me thy vineyard for money; or else, if it please thee, I will give thee another vineyard for it: and he answered, I will not give thee my vineyard.

    And Jezebel his wife said unto him, Dost thou now govern the kingdom of Israel? arise, and eat bread, and let thine heart be merry: I will give thee the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite.

    וַתִּכְתֹּבvat/tikh/TOVand she wroteסְפָרִיםse/fa/RIMlettersבְּשֵׁםbe/SHEMin the name ofאַחְאָבAch/AVAhabוַתַּחְתֹּםvat/tach/TOMand sealed themבְּחֹתָמוֹbe/cho/ta/MOwith his sealוַתִּשְׁלַחvat/tish/LACHand she sent(הספרים)hasafarayam[סְפָרִים]se/fa/RIMlettersאֶל־הַזְּקֵנִיםel-haz/ze/ke/NIMto the eldersוְאֶל־הַחֹרִיםve/EL-ha/cho/RIMand to the noblesאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwho wereבְּעִירוֹbe/i/ROin his cityהַיֹּשְׁבִיםhay/yosh/VIMwho dwelt withאֶת־נָבוֹת׃et-Na/VOTNaboth

    So she wrote letters in Ahab's name, and sealed them with his seal, and sent the letters unto the elders and to the nobles that were in his city, dwelling with Naboth.

    וַתִּכְתֹּבvat/tikh/TOVand she wroteבַּסְּפָרִיםbas/se/fa/RIMin the lettersלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingקִרְאוּ־צוֹםkir/U-tsomproclaim a fastוְהֹשִׁיבוּve/ho/SHI/vuand seatאֶת־נָבוֹתet-Na/VOTNabothבְּרֹאשׁbe/ROSHat the head ofהָעָם׃ha/AMthe people

    And she wrote in the letters, saying, Proclaim a fast, and set Naboth on high among the people:

    וְהוֹשִׁיבוּve/ho/SHI/vuand seatשְׁנַיִםshe/NA/yimtwoאֲנָשִׁיםa/na/SHIMmenבְּנֵי־בְלִיַּעַלbe/NE-ve/liy/YA/alsons of worthlessnessנֶגְדּוֹneg/DOopposite himוִיעִדֻהוּvi/i/DU/huand let them testify against himלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingבֵּרַכְתָּbe/RAKH/tayou have cursedאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodוָמֶלֶךְva/ME/lekhand the kingוְהוֹצִיאֻהוּve/ho/tsi/U/huthen bring him outוְסִקְלֻהוּve/sik/LU/huand stone himוְיָמֹת׃ve/ya/MOTthat he may die

    And set two men, sons of Belial, before him, to bear witness against him, saying, Thou didst blaspheme God and the king. And then carry him out, and stone him, that he may die.

    וַיַּעֲשׂוּvay/ya/a/SUand didאַנְשֵׁיan/SHEthe men ofעִירוֹi/ROhis cityהַזְּקֵנִיםhaz/ze/ke/NIMthe eldersוְהַחֹרִיםve/ha/cho/RIMand the noblesאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwho wereהַיֹּשְׁבִיםhay/yosh/VIMwho dweltבְּעִירוֹbe/i/ROin his cityכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERasשָׁלְחָהsha/le/CHAhad sentאֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMto themאִיזָבֶלI/ZA/velJezebelכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERasכָּתוּבka/TUVit was writtenבַּסְּפָרִיםbas/se/fa/RIMin the lettersאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatשָׁלְחָהsha/le/CHAshe had sentאֲלֵיהֶם׃a/le/HEMto them

    And the men of his city, even the elders and the nobles who were the inhabitants in his city, did as Jezebel had sent unto them, and as it was written in the letters which she had sent unto them.

    קָרְאוּka/re/Uthey proclaimedצוֹםtsoma fastוְהֹשִׁיבוּve/ho/SHI/vuand seatedאֶת־נָבוֹתet-Na/VOTNabothבְּרֹאשׁbe/ROSHat the head ofהָעָם׃ha/AMthe people

    They proclaimed a fast, and set Naboth on high among the people.

  13. 13

    וַיָּבֹאוּvay/ya/VO/uand they cameשְׁנֵיshe/NEtwoהָאֲנָשִׁיםha/a/na/SHIMthe menבְּנֵי־בְלִיַּעַלbe/NE-ve/liy/YA/alsons of worthlessnessוַיֵּשְׁבוּvay/yesh/VUand satנֶגְדּוֹneg/DOopposite himוַיְעִדֻהוּvay/i/du/HUand testified against himאַנְשֵׁיan/SHEthe men ofהַבְּלִיַּעַלhab/be/liy/YA/alworthlessnessאֶת־נָבוֹתet-Na/VOTNabothנֶגֶדNE/gedbeforeהָעָםha/AMthe peopleלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingבֵּרַךְbe/RAKHcursedנָבוֹתNa/VOTNabothאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodוָמֶלֶךְva/ME/lekhand the kingוַיֹּצִאֻהוּvay/yo/tsi/U/huand they brought him outמִחוּץmi/CHUTSoutsideלָעִירla/IRthe cityוַיִּסְקְלֻהוּvay/yis/ke/LU/huand they stoned himבָאֲבָנִיםva/a/va/NIMwith stonesוַיָּמֹת׃vay/ya/MOTand he died

    And there came in two men, children of Belial, and sat before him: and the men of Belial witnessed against him, even against Naboth, in the presence of the people, saying, Naboth did blaspheme God and the king. Then they carried him forth out of the city, and stoned him with stones, that he died.

    וַיִּשְׁלְחוּvay/yish/le/CHUand they sentאֶל־אִיזֶבֶלel-I/ZE/velto Jezebelלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingסֻקַּלsuk/KALhe has been stonedנָבוֹתNa/VOTNabothוַיָּמֹת׃vay/ya/MOTand is dead

    Then they sent to Jezebel, saying, Naboth is stoned, and is dead.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passכִּשְׁמֹעַkish/MO/awhen heardאִיזֶבֶלI/ZE/velJezebelכִּי־סֻקַּלki-suk/KALthat had been stonedנָבוֹתNa/VOTNabothוַיָּמֹתvay/ya/MOTand was deadוַתֹּאמֶרvat/TO/merand saidאִיזֶבֶלI/ZE/velJezebelאֶל־אַחְאָבel-Ach/AVto Ahabקוּםkumariseרֵשׁreshtake possession ofאֶת־כֶּרֶםet-KE/remthe vineyard ofנָבוֹתNa/VOTNabothהַיִּזְרְעֵאלִיhay/Yiz/re/e/LIthe Jezreeliteאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatמֵאֵןme/ENhe refusedלָתֶת־לְךָLA/tet-le/KHAto give youבְכֶסֶףve/KHE/seffor silverכִּיkiforאֵיןenis notנָבוֹתNa/VOTNabothחַיchayaliveכִּי־מֵת׃ki-metbut dead

    And it came to pass, when Jezebel heard that Naboth was stoned, and was dead, that Jezebel said to Ahab, Arise, take possession of the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, which he refused to give thee for money: for Naboth is not alive, but dead.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passכִּשְׁמֹעַkish/MO/awhen heardאַחְאָבAch/AVAhabכִּיkithatמֵתmetwas deadנָבוֹתNa/VOTNabothוַיָּקׇםvay/YA/komthat aroseאַחְאָבAch/AVAhabלָרֶדֶתla/RE/detto go downאֶל־כֶּרֶםel-KE/remto the vineyard ofנָבוֹתNa/VOTNabothהַיִּזְרְעֵאלִיhay/Yiz/re/e/LIthe Jezreeliteלְרִשְׁתּוֹ׃le/rish/TOto take possession of it

    And it came to pass, when Ahab heard that Naboth was dead, that Ahab rose up to go down to the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, to take possession of it.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand cameדְּבַר־יְהֹוָהde/VAR-Adonaithe word of the LORDאֶל־אֵלִיָּהוּel-E/liy/YA/huto Elijahהַתִּשְׁבִּיhat/Tish/BIthe Tishbiteלֵאמֹר׃le/MORsaying

    And the word of the LORD came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying,

    קוּםkumariseרֵדredgo downלִקְרַאתlik/RATto meetאַחְאָבAch/AVAhabמֶלֶךְ־יִשְׂרָאֵלME/lekh-Yis/ra/ELthe king of Israelאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwho isבְּשֹׁמְרוֹןbe/Shom/RONin Samariaהִנֵּהhin/NEbehold he isבְּכֶרֶםbe/KHE/remin the vineyard ofנָבוֹתNa/VOTNabothאֲשֶׁר־יָרַדa/SHER-YA/radwhere he has gone downשָׁםshamthereלְרִשְׁתּוֹ׃le/rish/TOto take possession of it

    Arise, go down to meet Ahab king of Israel, which is in Samaria: behold, he is in the vineyard of Naboth, whither he is gone down to possess it.

    וְדִבַּרְתָּve/dib/bar/TAand speakאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingכֹּהkothusאָמַרa/MARsaysיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDהֲרָצַחְתָּha/ra/TSACH/tahave you killedוְגַם־יָרָשְׁתָּve/GAM-ya/RASH/taand also taken possessionוְדִבַּרְתָּve/dib/bar/TAand speakאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingכֹּהkothusאָמַרa/MARsaysיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDבִּמְקוֹםbim/KOMat the place ofאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhereלָקְקוּla/ke/KUlickedהַכְּלָבִיםhak/ke/la/VIMthe dogsאֶת־דַּםet-damthe blood ofנָבוֹתNa/VOTNabothיָלֹקּוּya/LOK/kushall lickהַכְּלָבִיםhak/ke/la/VIMthe dogsאֶת־דָּמְךָet-da/me/KHAyour bloodגַּם־אָתָּה׃gam-AT/tayours also

    And thou shalt speak unto him, saying, Thus saith the LORD, Hast thou killed, and also taken possession? And thou shalt speak unto him, saying, Thus saith the LORD, In the place where dogs licked the blood of Naboth shall dogs lick thy blood, even thine.

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאַחְאָבAch/AVAhabאֶל־אֵלִיָּהוּel-E/liy/YA/huto Elijahהַמְצָאתַנִיham/tsa/TA/nihave you found meאֹיְבִיoy/VIO my enemyוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidמָצָאתִיma/TSA/tiI have found youיַעַןYA/anbecauseהִתְמַכֶּרְךָhit/mak/ker/KHAyou have sold yourselfלַעֲשׂוֹתla/a/SOTto doהָרַעha/RAevilבְּעֵינֵיbe/e/NEin the eyes ofיְהֹוָה׃Adonaithe LORD

    And Ahab said to Elijah, Hast thou found me, O mine enemy? And he answered, I have found thee: because thou hast sold thyself to work evil in the sight of the LORD.

    הִנְנִיhin/NIbehold Iמֵבִיme/VIam bringingאֵלֶיךָe/LE/khaupon youרָעָהra/Aevilוּבִעַרְתִּיu/vi/ar/TIand I will sweep awayאַחֲרֶיךָa/cha/RE/khaafter youוְהִכְרַתִּיve/hikh/rat/TIand I will cut offלְאַחְאָבle/Ach/AVfrom Ahabמַשְׁתִּיןmash/TINone who urinatesבְּקִירbe/KIRagainst the wallוְעָצוּרve/a/TSURand the one shut upוְעָזוּבve/a/ZUVand the one leftבְּיִשְׂרָאֵל׃be/Yis/ra/ELin Israel

    Behold, I will bring evil upon thee, and will take away thy posterity, and will cut off from Ahab him that pisseth against the wall, and him that is shut up and left in Israel,

  22. 22

    וְנָתַתִּיve/na/tat/TIand I will makeאֶת־בֵּיתְךָet-be/te/KHAyour houseכְּבֵיתke/VETlike the house ofיָרׇבְעָםYa/rov/AMJeroboamבֶּן־נְבָטben-Ne/VATthe son of Nebatוּכְבֵיתu/khe/VETand like the house ofבַּעְשָׁאBa/SHABaashaבֶן־אֲחִיָּהven-A/chiy/YAthe son of Ahijahאֶל־הַכַּעַסel-hak/KA/asfor the provocationאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwith whichהִכְעַסְתָּhikh/AS/tayou have provoked Meוַתַּחֲטִאvat/ta/cha/TIand have made to sinאֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵל׃et-Yis/ra/ELIsrael

    And will make thine house like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah, for the provocation wherewith thou hast provoked me to anger, and made Israel to sin.

    וְגַם־לְאִיזֶבֶלve/GAM-le/i/ZE/veland also of Jezebelדִּבֶּרdib/BERspokeיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingהַכְּלָבִיםhak/ke/la/VIMthe dogsיֹאכְלוּyo/khe/LUshall eatאֶת־אִיזֶבֶלet-I/ZE/velJezebelבְּחֵלbe/CHELby the rampart ofיִזְרְעֶאל׃Yiz/re/ELJezreel

    And of Jezebel also spake the LORD, saying, The dogs shall eat Jezebel by the wall of Jezreel.

    הַמֵּתham/METwhoever diesלְאַחְאָבle/Ach/AVof Ahabבָּעִירba/IRin the cityיֹאכְלוּyo/khe/LUshall eatהַכְּלָבִיםhak/ke/la/VIMthe dogsוְהַמֵּתve/ham/METand whoever diesבַּשָּׂדֶהbas/sa/DEin the fieldיֹאכְלוּyo/khe/LUshall eatעוֹףofthe birds ofהַשָּׁמָיִם׃hash/sha/MA/yimthe heavens

    Him that dieth of Ahab in the city the dogs shall eat; and him that dieth in the field shall the fowls of the air eat.

    רַקraksurelyלֹא־הָיָהlo-ha/YAthere was noneכְאַחְאָבkhe/Ach/AVlike Ahabאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoהִתְמַכֵּרhit/mak/KERhe sold himselfלַעֲשׂוֹתla/a/SOTto doהָרַעha/RAevilבְּעֵינֵיbe/e/NEin the eyes ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֲשֶׁר־הֵסַתָּהa/SHER-he/SAT/tawhom incitedאֹתוֹo/TOhimאִיזֶבֶלI/ZE/velJezebelאִשְׁתּוֹ׃ish/TOhis wife

    But there was none like unto Ahab, which did sell himself to work wickedness in the sight of the LORD, whom Jezebel his wife stirred up.

    וַיַּתְעֵבvay/yat/EVand he did abominablyמְאֹדme/ODveryלָלֶכֶתla/LE/khetin goingאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterהַגִּלֻּלִיםhag/gil/lu/LIMthe idolsכְּכֹלke/KHOLaccording to allאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatעָשׂוּa/SUdidהָאֱמֹרִיha/E/mo/RIthe Amoritesאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhomהוֹרִישׁho/RISHdispossessedיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDמִפְּנֵיmip/pe/NEbeforeבְּנֵיbe/NEthe children ofיִשְׂרָאֵל׃Yis/ra/ELIsrael

    And he did very abominably in following idols, according to all things as did the Amorites, whom the LORD cast out before the children of Israel.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passכִשְׁמֹעַkhish/MO/awhen heardאַחְאָבAch/AVAhabאֶת־הַדְּבָרִיםet-had/de/va/RIMthe wordsהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseוַיִּקְרַעvay/yik/RAthat he toreבְּגָדָיוbe/ga/DAYVhis garmentsוַיָּשֶׂם־שַׂקvay/YA/sem-sakand he put sackclothעַל־בְּשָׂרוֹal-be/sa/ROupon his fleshוַיָּצוֹםvay/ya/TSOMand he fastedוַיִּשְׁכַּבvay/yish/KAVand layבַּשָּׂקbas/SAKin sackclothוַיְהַלֵּךְvay/hal/LEKHand he went aboutאַט׃atsoftly

    And it came to pass, when Ahab heard those words, that he rent his clothes, and put sackcloth upon his flesh, and fasted, and lay in sackcloth, and went softly.

    And the word of the LORD came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying,

    הֲרָאִיתָha/ra/I/tahave you seenכִּי־נִכְנַעki-nikh/NAhow has humbled himselfאַחְאָבAch/AVAhabמִלְּפָנָיmil/le/fa/NAYbefore MeיַעַןYA/anbecauseכִּי־נִכְנַעki-nikh/NAhe has humbled himselfמִפָּנַיmip/pa/NAYbefore Meלֹא־אָבִיlo-a/VII will not bringהָרָעָהha/ra/Athe evilבְּיָמָיוbe/ya/MAYVin his daysבִּימֵיbi/MEin the days ofבְנוֹve/NOhis sonאָבִיאa/VII will bringהָרָעָהha/ra/Athe evilעַל־בֵּיתוֹ׃al-be/TOupon his house

    Seest thou how Ahab humbleth himself before me? because he humbleth himself before me, I will not bring the evil in his days: but in his son's days will I bring the evil upon his house.
