   And Ben-hadad the king of Syria gathered all his host together: and there were thirty and two kings with him, and horses, and chariots: and he went up and besieged Samaria, and warred against it.

   וַיִּשְׁלַחvay/yish/LACHand sentמַלְאָכִיםmal/a/KHIMmessengersאֶל־אַחְאָבel-Ach/AVto Ahabמֶלֶךְ־יִשְׂרָאֵלME/lekh-Yis/ra/ELthe king of Israelהָעִירָה׃ha/I/rainto the city

   And he sent messengers to Ahab king of Israel into the city, and said unto him, Thus saith Ben-hadad,

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidלוֹloto himכֹּהkothusאָמַרa/MARsaysבֶּן־הֲדַדben-Ha/DADBen-hadadכַּסְפְּךָkas/pe/KHAyour silverוּזְהָבְךָu/ze/ha/ve/KHAand your goldלִי־הוּאli-huis mineוְנָשֶׁיךָve/na/SHE/khaand your wivesוּבָנֶיךָu/va/NE/khaand your childrenהַטּוֹבִיםhat/to/VIMthe bestלִי־הֵם׃li-hemare mine

   Thy silver and thy gold is mine; thy wives also and thy children, even the goodliest, are mine.

   וַיַּעַןvay/YA/anand he answeredמֶלֶךְ־יִשְׂרָאֵלME/lekh-Yis/ra/ELthe king of Israelוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidכִּדְבָרְךָkid/va/re/KHAaccording to your wordאֲדֹנִיa/do/NImy lordהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhO kingלְךָle/KHAyoursאֲנִיa/NIam Iוְכׇל־אֲשֶׁר־לִי׃ve/KHOL-a/SHER-liand all that is mine

   And the king of Israel answered and said, My lord, O king, according to thy saying, I am thine, and all that I have.

   וַיָּשֻׁבוּvay/ya/SHU/vuand they returnedהַמַּלְאָכִיםham/mal/a/KHIMthe messengersוַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidכֹּה־אָמַרko-a/MARthus saysבֶּן־הֲדַדben-Ha/DADBen-hadadלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingכִּי־שָׁלַחְתִּיki-sha/LACH/tiindeed I sentאֵלֶיךָe/LE/khato youלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingכַּסְפְּךָkas/pe/KHAyour silverוּזְהָבְךָu/ze/ha/ve/KHAand your goldוְנָשֶׁיךָve/na/SHE/khaand your wivesוּבָנֶיךָu/va/NE/khaand your childrenלִיlito meתִתֵּן׃tit/TENyou shall give

   And the messengers came again, and said, Thus speaketh Ben-hadad, saying, Although I have sent unto thee, saying, Thou shalt deliver me thy silver, and thy gold, and thy wives, and thy children;

   כִּיkibutאִם־כָּעֵתim-ka/ETabout this timeמָחָרma/CHARtomorrowאֶשְׁלַחesh/LACHI will sendאֶת־עֲבָדַיet-a/va/DAYmy servantsאֵלֶיךָe/LE/khato youוְחִפְּשׂוּve/chip/pe/SUand they will searchאֶת־בֵּיתְךָet-be/te/KHAyour houseוְאֵתve/ETandבָּתֵּיbat/TEthe houses ofעֲבָדֶיךָa/va/DE/khayour servantsוְהָיָהve/ha/YAand it shall beכׇּל־מַחְמַדkol-mach/MADevery delight ofעֵינֶיךָe/NE/khayour eyesיָשִׂימוּya/SI/muthey will putבְיָדָםve/ya/DAMin their handוְלָקָחוּ׃ve/la/KA/chuand take it

   Yet I will send my servants unto thee to morrow about this time, and they shall search thine house, and the houses of thy servants; and it shall be, that whatsoever is pleasant in thine eyes, they shall put it in their hand, and take it away.

   וַיִּקְרָאvay/yik/RAand calledמֶלֶךְ־יִשְׂרָאֵלME/lekh-Yis/ra/ELthe king of Israelלְכׇל־זִקְנֵיle/KHOL-zik/NEto all the elders ofהָאָרֶץha/A/retsthe landוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidדְּעוּ־נָאde/U-naknow nowוּרְאוּu/re/Uand seeכִּיkithatרָעָהra/Aevilזֶהzethis manמְבַקֵּשׁme/vak/KESHis seekingכִּי־שָׁלַחki-sha/LACHfor he sentאֵלַיe/LAYto meלְנָשַׁיle/na/SHAYfor my wivesוּלְבָנַיu/le/va/NAYand for my childrenוּלְכַסְפִּיu/le/khas/PIand for my silverוְלִזְהָבִיve/liz/ha/VIand for my goldוְלֹאve/LOand notמָנַעְתִּיma/NA/tiI withheldמִמֶּנּוּ׃mim/MEN/nufrom him

   Then the king of Israel called all the elders of the land, and said, Mark, I pray you, and see how this man seeketh mischief: for he sent unto me for my wives, and for my children, and for my silver, and for my gold; and I denied him not.

   וַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himכׇּל־הַזְּקֵנִיםkol-haz/ze/ke/NIMall the eldersוְכׇל־הָעָםve/KHOL-ha/AMand all the peopleאַל־תִּשְׁמַעal-tish/MAdo not listenוְלוֹאve/LOand do notתֹאבֶה׃to/VEconsent

   And all the elders and all the people said unto him, Hearken not unto him, nor consent.

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidלְמַלְאֲכֵיle/mal/a/KHEto the messengers ofבֶן־הֲדַדven-Ha/DADBen-hadadאִמְרוּim/RUsayלַאדֹנִיla/do/NIto my lordהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingכֹּלkolallאֲשֶׁר־שָׁלַחְתָּa/SHER-sha/LACH/tathat you sentאֶל־עַבְדְּךָel-av/de/KHAto your servantבָרִאשֹׁנָהva/ri/sho/NAat the firstאֶעֱשֶׂהe/e/SEI will doוְהַדָּבָרve/had/da/VARand the thingהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisלֹאlonotאוּכַלu/KHALcan Iלַעֲשׂוֹתla/a/SOTto doוַיֵּלְכוּvay/yel/KHUand departedהַמַּלְאָכִיםham/mal/a/KHIMthe messengersוַיְשִׁבֻהוּvay/shi/VU/huand brought him backדָּבָר׃da/VARa word

   Wherefore he said unto the messengers of Ben-hadad, Tell my lord the king, All that thou didst send for to thy servant at the first I will do: but this thing I may not do. And the messengers departed, and brought him word again.

    וַיִּשְׁלַחvay/yish/LACHand sentאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himבֶּן־הֲדַדben-Ha/DADBen-hadadוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidכֹּה־יַעֲשׂוּןko-ya/a/SUNso may doלִיlito meאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMthe godsוְכֹהve/KHOand moreיוֹסִפוּyo/SI/fualsoאִם־יִשְׂפֹּקim-yis/POKif sufficesעֲפַרa/FARthe dust ofשֹׁמְרוֹןShom/RONSamariaלִשְׁעָלִיםlish/a/LIMfor handfulsלְכׇל־הָעָםle/KHOL-ha/AMfor all the peopleאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwho areבְּרַגְלָי׃be/rag/LAYat my feet

    And Ben-hadad sent unto him, and said, The gods do so unto me, and more also, if the dust of Samaria shall suffice for handfuls for all the people that follow me.

    וַיַּעַןvay/YA/anand he answeredמֶלֶךְ־יִשְׂרָאֵלME/lekh-Yis/ra/ELthe king of Israelוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidדַּבְּרוּdab/be/RUspeakאַל־יִתְהַלֵּלal-yit/hal/LELlet not boastחֹגֵרcho/GERone girding onכִּמְפַתֵּחַ׃kim/fat/TE/achlike one taking off

    And the king of Israel answered and said, Tell him, Let not him that girdeth on his harness boast himself as he that putteth it off.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passכִּשְׁמֹעַkish/MO/awhen he heardאֶת־הַדָּבָרet-had/da/VARthe wordהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisוְהוּאve/HUand he wasשֹׁתֶהsho/TEdrinkingהוּאhuheוְהַמְּלָכִיםve/ham/me/la/KHIMand the kingsבַּסֻּכּוֹתbas/suk/KOTin the boothsוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֶל־עֲבָדָיוel-a/va/DAYVto his servantsשִׂימוּSI/musetוַיָּשִׂימוּvay/ya/SI/muand they setעַל־הָעִיר׃al-ha/IRagainst the city

    And it came to pass, when Ben-hadad heard this message, as he was drinking, he and the kings in the pavilions, that he said unto his servants, Set yourselves in array. And they set themselves in array against the city.

    וְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdנָבִיאna/VIa prophetאֶחָדe/CHADoneנִגַּשׁnig/GASHcame nearאֶל־אַחְאָבel-Ach/AVto Ahabמֶלֶךְ־יִשְׂרָאֵלME/lekh-Yis/ra/ELthe king of Israelוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidכֹּהkothusאָמַרa/MARsaysיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDהֲרָאִיתָha/ra/I/tahave you seenאֵת־כׇּל־הֶהָמוֹןet-kol-he/ha/MONall the multitudeהַגָּדוֹלhag/ga/DOLgreatהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisהִנְנִיhin/NIbehold Iנֹתְנוֹnot/NOam giving itבְיָדְךָve/ya/de/KHAinto your handהַיּוֹםhay/YOMtodayוְיָדַעְתָּve/ya/da/TAand you shall knowכִּי־אֲנִיki-a/NIthat I amיְהֹוָה׃Adonaithe LORD

    And, behold, there came a prophet unto Ahab king of Israel, saying, Thus saith the LORD, Hast thou seen all this great multitude? behold, I will deliver it into thine hand this day; and thou shalt know that I am the LORD.

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאַחְאָבAch/AVAhabבְּמִיbe/MIby whomוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidכֹּה־אָמַרko-a/MARthus saysיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDבְּנַעֲרֵיbe/na/a/REby the young men ofשָׂרֵיsa/REthe governors ofהַמְּדִינוֹתham/me/di/NOTthe provincesוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidמִי־יֶאְסֹרmi-ye/SORwho shall beginהַמִּלְחָמָהham/mil/cha/MAthe battleוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאָתָּה׃AT/tayou

    And Ahab said, By whom? And he said, Thus saith the LORD, Even by the young men of the princes of the provinces. Then he said, Who shall order the battle? And he answered, Thou.

    וַיִּפְקֹדvay/yif/KODand he musteredאֶת־נַעֲרֵיet-na/a/REthe young men ofשָׂרֵיsa/REthe governors ofהַמְּדִינוֹתham/me/di/NOTthe provincesוַיִּהְיוּvay/yih/YUand they wereמָאתַיִםma/TA/yimtwo hundredשְׁנַיִםshe/NA/yimtwoוּשְׁלֹשִׁיםu/she/lo/SHIMand thirtyוְאַחֲרֵיהֶםve/a/cha/re/HEMand after themפָּקַדpa/KADhe musteredאֶת־כׇּל־הָעָםet-kol-ha/AMall the peopleכׇּל־בְּנֵיkol-be/NEall the children ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelשִׁבְעַתshiv/ATsevenאֲלָפִים׃a/la/FIMthousand

    Then he numbered the young men of the princes of the provinces, and they were two hundred and thirty two: and after them he numbered all the people, even all the children of Israel, being seven thousand.

    וַיֵּצְאוּvay/yets/Uand they went outבַּצׇּהֳרָיִםbats/tso/ho/RA/yimat noonוּבֶן־הֲדַדu/VEN-ha/DADand Ben-hadadשֹׁתֶהsho/TEwas drinkingשִׁכּוֹרshik/KORhimself drunkבַּסֻּכּוֹתbas/suk/KOTin the boothsהוּאhuheוְהַמְּלָכִיםve/ham/me/la/KHIMand the kingsשְׁלֹשִׁים־וּשְׁנַיִםshe/lo/SHIM-u/she/NA/yimthirty and twoמֶלֶךְME/lekhkingsעֹזֵרo/ZERhelpingאֹתוֹ׃o/TOhim

    And they went out at noon. But Ben-hadad was drinking himself drunk in the pavilions, he and the kings, the thirty and two kings that helped him.

17. 17

    וַיֵּצְאוּvay/yets/Uand went outנַעֲרֵיna/a/REthe young men ofשָׂרֵיsa/REthe governors ofהַמְּדִינוֹתham/me/di/NOTthe provincesבָּרִאשֹׁנָהba/ri/sho/NAfirstוַיִּשְׁלַחvay/yish/LACHand sentבֶּן־הֲדַדben-Ha/DADBen-hadadוַיַּגִּידוּvay/yag/GI/duand they toldלוֹloto himלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingאֲנָשִׁיםa/na/SHIMmenיָצְאוּya/tse/Uhave come outמִשֹּׁמְרוֹן׃mish/Shom/RONfrom Samaria

    And the young men of the princes of the provinces went out first; and Ben-hadad sent out, and they told him, saying, There are men come out of Samaria.

18. 18

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאִם־לְשָׁלוֹםim-le/sha/LOMif for peaceיָצָאוּya/TSA/uthey have come outתִּפְשׂוּםtif/SUMseize themחַיִּיםchay/YIMaliveוְאִםve/IMand ifלְמִלְחָמָהle/mil/cha/MAfor battleיָצָאוּya/TSA/uthey have come outחַיִּיםchay/YIMaliveתִּפְשׂוּם׃tif/SUMseize them

    And he said, Whether they be come out for peace, take them alive; or whether they be come out for war, take them alive.

    וְאֵלֶּהve/EL/leand theseיָצְאוּya/tse/Uwent outמִן־הָעִירmin-ha/IRfrom the cityנַעֲרֵיna/a/REthe young men ofשָׂרֵיsa/REthe governors ofהַמְּדִינוֹתham/me/di/NOTthe provincesוְהַחַיִלve/ha/CHA/yiland the armyאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthat wasאַחֲרֵיהֶם׃a/cha/re/HEMbehind them

    So these young men of the princes of the provinces came out of the city, and the army which followed them.

    וַיַּכּוּvay/yak/KUand they struckאִישׁisheachאִישׁוֹi/SHOhis manוַיָּנֻסוּvay/ya/NU/suand fledאֲרָםA/RAMAramוַיִּרְדְּפֵםvay/yir/de/FEMand pursued themיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelוַיִּמָּלֵטvay/yim/ma/LETand he escapedבֶּן־הֲדַדben-Ha/DADBen-hadadמֶלֶךְME/lekhthe king ofאֲרָםA/RAMAramעַל־סוּסal-suson a horseוּפָרָשִׁים׃u/fa/ra/SHIMwith horsemen

    And they slew every one his man: and the Syrians fled; and Israel pursued them: and Ben-hadad the king of Syria escaped on an horse with the horsemen.

    וַיֵּצֵאvay/ye/TSEand went outמֶלֶךְME/lekhthe king ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelוַיַּךְvay/YAKHand he struckאֶת־הַסּוּסet-has/SUSthe horsesוְאֶת־הָרָכֶבve/ET-ha/RA/khevand the chariotsוְהִכָּהve/hik/KAand struckבַאֲרָםVa/a/RAMAramמַכָּהmak/KAa slaughterגְדוֹלָה׃ge/do/LAgreat

    And the king of Israel went out, and smote the horses and chariots, and slew the Syrians with a great slaughter.

    וַיִּגַּשׁvay/yig/GASHand came nearהַנָּבִיאhan/na/VIthe prophetאֶל־מֶלֶךְel-ME/lekhto the king ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidלוֹloto himלֵךְlekhgoהִתְחַזַּקhit/chaz/ZAKstrengthen yourselfוְדַעve/DAand knowוּרְאֵהu/re/Eand seeאֵת־אֲשֶׁר־תַּעֲשֶׂהet-a/SHER-ta/a/SEwhat you doכִּיkiforלִתְשׁוּבַתlit/shu/VATat the turn ofהַשָּׁנָהhash/sha/NAthe yearמֶלֶךְME/lekhthe king ofאֲרָםA/RAMAramעֹלֶהo/LEwill come upעָלֶיךָ׃a/LE/khaagainst you

    And the prophet came to the king of Israel, and said unto him, Go, strengthen thyself, and mark, and see what thou doest: for at the return of the year the king of Syria will come up against thee.

    וְעַבְדֵיve/av/DEand the servants ofמֶלֶךְ־אֲרָםME/lekh-A/RAMthe king of Aramאָמְרוּa/me/RUthey saidאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himאֱלֹהֵיe/lo/HEgods ofהָרִיםha/RIMmountainsאֱלֹהֵיהֶםe/lo/he/HEMare their godsעַל־כֵּןal-kenthereforeחָזְקוּcha/ze/KUthey were strongerמִמֶּנּוּmim/MEN/nuthan weוְאוּלָםve/u/LAMbutנִלָּחֵםnil/la/CHEMlet us fightאִתָּםit/TAMwith themבַּמִּישׁוֹרbam/mi/SHORin the plainאִם־לֹאim-losurelyנֶחֱזַקne/che/ZAKwe will be strongerמֵהֶם׃me/HEMthan they

    And the servants of the king of Syria said unto him, Their gods are gods of the hills; therefore they were stronger than we; but let us fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they.

    וְאֶת־הַדָּבָרve/ET-had/da/VARand the thingהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisעֲשֵׂהa/SEdoהָסֵרha/SERtake awayהַמְּלָכִיםham/me/la/KHIMthe kingsאִישׁishevery manמִמְּקֹמוֹmim/me/ko/MOfrom his placeוְשִׂיםve/SIMand putפַּחוֹתpa/CHOTgovernorsתַּחְתֵּיהֶם׃tach/te/HEMin their places

    And do this thing, Take the kings away, every man out of his place, and put captains in their rooms:

25. 25

    וְאַתָּהve/at/TAand youתִמְנֶה־לְךָtim/NE-le/KHAmuster for yourselfחַיִלCHA/yilan armyכַּחַיִלka/CHA/yillike the armyהַנֹּפֵלhan/no/FELthat fellמֵאוֹתָךְme/o/TAKHfrom youוְסוּסve/SUSand horseכַּסּוּסkas/SUSlike the horseוְרֶכֶבve/RE/khevand chariotכָּרֶכֶבka/RE/khevlike the chariotוְנִלָּחֲמָהve/nil/la/cha/MAand let us fightאוֹתָםo/TAMwith themבַּמִּישׁוֹרbam/mi/SHORin the plainאִם־לֹאim-losurelyנֶחֱזַקne/che/ZAKwe will be strongerמֵהֶםme/HEMthan theyוַיִּשְׁמַעvay/yish/MAand he listenedלְקֹלָםle/ko/LAMto their voiceוַיַּעַשׂvay/YA/asand he didכֵּן׃kenso

    And number thee an army, like the army that thou hast lost, horse for horse, and chariot for chariot: and we will fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they. And he hearkened unto their voice, and did so.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passלִתְשׁוּבַתlit/shu/VATat the turn ofהַשָּׁנָהhash/sha/NAthe yearוַיִּפְקֹדvay/yif/KODthat musteredבֶּן־הֲדַדben-Ha/DADBen-hadadאֶת־אֲרָםet-A/RAMAramוַיַּעַלvay/YA/aland went upאֲפֵקָהA/FE/kato Aphekלַמִּלְחָמָהlam/mil/cha/MAto battleעִם־יִשְׂרָאֵל׃im-Yis/ra/ELwith Israel

    And it came to pass at the return of the year, that Ben-hadad numbered the Syrians, and went up to Aphek, to fight against Israel.

    וּבְנֵיu/ve/NEand the children ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelהׇתְפָּקְדוּhot/pa/ke/DUthey were musteredוְכׇלְכְּלוּve/khol/ke/LUand were provisionedוַיֵּלְכוּvay/yel/KHUand they wentלִקְרָאתָםlik/ra/TAMto meet themוַיַּחֲנוּvay/ya/cha/NUand they encampedבְנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵלve/NE-yis/ra/ELthe children of Israelנֶגְדָּםneg/DAMopposite themכִּשְׁנֵיkish/NElike twoחֲשִׂפֵיcha/si/FElittle flocks ofעִזִּיםiz/ZIMgoatsוַאֲרָםva/A/RAMand Aramמִלְאוּmil/Ufilledאֶת־הָאָרֶץ׃et-ha/A/retsthe land

    And the children of Israel were numbered, and were all present, and went against them: and the children of Israel pitched before them like two little flocks of kids; but the Syrians filled the country.

    וַיִּגַּשׁvay/yig/GASHand came nearאִישׁisha man ofהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֶל־מֶלֶךְel-ME/lekhto the king ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidכֹּה־אָמַרko-a/MARthus saysיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDיַעַןYA/anbecauseאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatאָמְרוּa/me/RUhave saidאֲרָםA/RAMAramאֱלֹהֵיe/lo/HEis a god ofהָרִיםha/RIMmountainsיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDוְלֹא־אֱלֹהֵיve/LO-e/lo/HEand not a god ofעֲמָקִיםa/ma/KIMvalleysהוּאhuis Heוְנָתַתִּיve/na/tat/TIand I will giveאֶת־כׇּל־הֶהָמוֹןet-kol-he/ha/MONall the multitudeהַגָּדוֹלhag/ga/DOLthe greatהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisבְּיָדֶךָbe/ya/DE/khainto your handוִידַעְתֶּםvi/da/TEMand you shall knowכִּי־אֲנִיki-a/NIthat I amיְהֹוָה׃Adonaithe LORD

    And there came a man of God, and spake unto the king of Israel, and said, Thus saith the LORD, Because the Syrians have said, The LORD is God of the hills, but he is not God of the valleys, therefore will I deliver all this great multitude into thine hand, and ye shall know that I am the LORD.

29. 29

    וַיַּחֲנוּvay/ya/cha/NUand they encampedאֵלֶּהEL/letheseנֹכַח־אֵלֶּהNO/khach-EL/leopposite to theseשִׁבְעַתshiv/ATsevenיָמִיםya/MIMdaysוַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passבַּיּוֹםbay/YOMon the dayהַשְּׁבִיעִיhash/she/vi/Ithe seventhוַתִּקְרַבvat/tik/RAVthat was joinedהַמִּלְחָמָהham/mil/cha/MAthe battleוַיַּכּוּvay/yak/KUand they struckבְנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵלve/NE-yis/ra/ELthe children of Israelאֶת־אֲרָםet-A/RAMof Aramמֵאָה־אֶלֶףme/A-E/lefa hundred thousandרַגְלִיrag/LIfoot soldiersבְּיוֹםbe/YOMin dayאֶחָד׃e/CHADone

    And they pitched one over against the other seven days. And so it was, that in the seventh day the battle was joined: and the children of Israel slew of the Syrians an hundred thousand footmen in one day.

30. 30

    וַיָּנֻסוּvay/ya/NU/suand they fledהַנּוֹתָרִיםhan/no/ta/RIMthe restאֲפֵקָהA/FE/kato Aphekאֶל־הָעִירel-ha/IRto the cityוַתִּפֹּלvat/tip/POLand fellהַחוֹמָהha/cho/MAthe wallעַל־עֶשְׂרִיםal-es/RIMon twentyוְשִׁבְעָהve/shiv/Aand sevenאֶלֶףE/lefthousandאִישׁishmenהַנּוֹתָרִיםhan/no/ta/RIMthat were leftוּבֶן־הֲדַדu/VEN-ha/DADand Ben-hadadנָסnasfledוַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand cameאֶל־הָעִירel-ha/IRto the cityחֶדֶרCHE/derroomבְּחָדֶר׃be/CHA/derwithin room

    But the rest fled to Aphek, into the city; and there a wall fell upon twenty and seven thousand of the men that were left. And Ben-hadad fled, and came into the city, into an inner chamber.

31. 31

    וַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himעֲבָדָיוa/va/DAYVhis servantsהִנֵּה־נָאhin/NE-nabehold nowשָׁמַעְנוּsha/MA/nuwe heardכִּיkithatמַלְכֵיmal/KHEthe kings ofבֵּיתbetthe house ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelכִּי־מַלְכֵיki-mal/KHEthat kings ofחֶסֶדCHE/sedkindnessהֵםhemare theyנָשִׂימָהna/SI/malet us putנָּאnanowשַׂקִּיםsak/KIMsackclothבְּמׇתְנֵינוּbe/mot/NE/nuon our loinsוַחֲבָלִיםva/cha/va/LIMand ropesבְּרֹאשֵׁנוּbe/ro/SHE/nuon our headsוְנֵצֵאve/ne/TSEand go outאֶל־מֶלֶךְel-ME/lekhto the king ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelאוּלַיu/LAYperhapsיְחַיֶּהye/chay/YEhe will spareאֶת־נַפְשֶׁךָ׃et-naf/SHE/khayour life

    And his servants said unto him, Behold now, we have heard that the kings of the house of Israel are merciful kings: let us, I pray thee, put sackcloth on our loins, and ropes upon our heads, and go out to the king of Israel: peradventure he will save thy life.

32. 32

    וַיַּחְגְּרוּvay/yach/ge/RUand they girdedשַׂקִּיםsak/KIMsackclothבְּמׇתְנֵיהֶםbe/mot/ne/HEMon their loinsוַחֲבָלִיםva/cha/va/LIMand ropesבְּרָאשֵׁיהֶםbe/ra/she/HEMon their headsוַיָּבֹאוּvay/ya/VO/uand they cameאֶל־מֶלֶךְel-ME/lekhto the king ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelוַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidעַבְדְּךָav/de/KHAyour servantבֶן־הֲדַדven-Ha/DADBen-hadadאָמַרa/MARsaysתְּחִי־נָאte/CHI-nalet live I prayנַפְשִׁיnaf/SHImy lifeוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidהַעוֹדֶנּוּha/o/DEN/nuis he stillחַיchayaliveאָחִיa/CHImy brotherהוּא׃huis he

    So they girded sackcloth on their loins, and put ropes on their heads, and came to the king of Israel, and said, Thy servant Ben-hadad saith, I pray thee, let me live. And he said, Is he yet alive? he is my brother.

33. 33

    וְהָאֲנָשִׁיםve/ha/a/na/SHIMand the menיְנַחֲשׁוּye/na/cha/SHUtook it as an omenוַיְמַהֲרוּvay/ma/ha/RUand hurriedוַיַּחְלְטוּvay/yach/le/TUand caught at itהֲמִמֶּנּוּha/mim/MEN/nuwhether from himוַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidאָחִיךָa/CHI/khayour brotherבֶן־הֲדַדven-Ha/DADBen-hadadוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidבֹּאוּBO/ucomeקָחֻהוּka/CHU/hubring himוַיֵּצֵאvay/ye/TSEand went outאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himבֶּן־הֲדַדben-Ha/DADBen-hadadוַיַּעֲלֵהוּvay/ya/a/LE/huand he brought him upעַל־הַמֶּרְכָּבָה׃al-ham/mer/ka/VAinto the chariot

    Now the men did diligently observe whether any thing would come from him, and did hastily catch it: and they said, Thy brother Ben-hadad. Then he said, Go ye, bring him. Then Ben-hadad came forth to him; and he caused him to come up into the chariot.

34. 34

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himהֶעָרִיםhe/a/RIMthe citiesאֲשֶׁר־לָקַח־אָבִיa/SHER-la/KACH-a/VIthat my father tookמֵאֵתme/ETfromאָבִיךָa/VI/khayour fatherאָשִׁיבa/SHIVI will restoreוְחֻצוֹתve/chu/TSOTand streetsתָּשִׂיםta/SIMyou shall makeלְךָle/KHAfor yourselfבְדַמֶּשֶׂקve/Dam/ME/sekin Damascusכַּאֲשֶׁר־שָׂםka/a/SHER-samas madeאָבִיa/VImy fatherבְּשֹׁמְרוֹןbe/Shom/RONin Samariaוַאֲנִיva/a/NIand Iבַּבְּרִיתbab/be/RITwith the covenantאֲשַׁלְּחֶךָּa/shal/le/CHEK/kaI will send you awayוַיִּכְרׇת־לוֹvay/yikh/ROT-loand he made with himבְרִיתve/RITa covenantוַיְשַׁלְּחֵהוּ׃vay/shal/le/CHE/huand sent him away

    And Ben-hadad said unto him, The cities, which my father took from thy father, I will restore; and thou shalt make streets for thee in Damascus, as my father made in Samaria. Then said Ahab, I will send thee away with this covenant. So he made a covenant with him, and sent him away.

35. 35

    וְאִישׁve/ISHand a manאֶחָדe/CHADoneמִבְּנֵיmib/be/NEof the sons ofהַנְּבִיאִיםhan/ne/vi/IMthe prophetsאָמַרa/MARsaidאֶל־רֵעֵהוּel-re/E/huto his neighborבִּדְבַרbid/VARby the word ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDהַכֵּינִיhak/KE/nistrike meנָאnaI prayוַיְמָאֵןvay/ma/ENand he refusedהָאִישׁha/ISHthe manלְהַכֹּתוֹ׃le/hak/ko/TOto strike him

    And a certain man of the sons of the prophets said unto his neighbour in the word of the LORD, Smite me, I pray thee. And the man refused to smite him.

36. 36

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidלוֹloto himיַעַןYA/anbecauseאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatלֹא־שָׁמַעְתָּlo-sha/MA/tayou have not listened toבְּקוֹלbe/KOLthe voice ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDהִנְּךָhin/ne/KHAbehold youהוֹלֵךְho/LEKHare goingמֵאִתִּיme/it/TIfrom meוְהִכְּךָve/hik/ke/KHAand will strike youהָאַרְיֵהha/ar/YEthe lionוַיֵּלֶךְvay/YE/lekhand he wentמֵאֶצְלוֹme/ets/LOfrom beside himוַיִּמְצָאֵהוּvay/yim/tsa/E/huand found himהָאַרְיֵהha/ar/YEthe lionוַיַּכֵּהוּ׃vay/yak/KE/huand struck him

    Then said he unto him, Because thou hast not obeyed the voice of the LORD, behold, as soon as thou art departed from me, a lion shall slay thee. And as soon as he was departed from him, a lion found him, and slew him.

37. 37

    וַיִּמְצָאvay/yim/TSAand foundאִישׁisha manאַחֵרa/CHERanotherוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidהַכֵּינִיhak/KE/nistrike meנָאnaI prayוַיַּכֵּהוּvay/yak/KE/huand struck himהָאִישׁha/ISHthe manהַכֵּהhak/KEstrikingוּפָצֹעַ׃u/fa/TSO/aand wounding

    Then he found another man, and said, Smite me, I pray thee. And the man smote him, so that in smiting he wounded him.

38. 38

    וַיֵּלֶךְvay/YE/lekhand wentהַנָּבִיאhan/na/VIthe prophetוַיַּעֲמֹדvay/ya/a/MODand waitedלַמֶּלֶךְlam/ME/lekhfor the kingעַל־הַדָּרֶךְal-had/DA/rekhby the roadוַיִּתְחַפֵּשׂvay/yit/chap/PESand he disguised himselfבָּאֲפֵרba/a/FERwith a bandageעַל־עֵינָיו׃al-e/NAYVupon his eyes

    So the prophet departed, and waited for the king by the way, and disguised himself with ashes upon his face.

39. 39

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand asהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingעֹבֵרo/VERwas passingוְהוּאve/HUand heצָעַקtsa/AKcriedאֶל־הַמֶּלֶךְel-ham/ME/lekhto the kingוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidעַבְדְּךָav/de/KHAyour servantיָצָאya/TSAwent outבְקֶרֶב־הַמִּלְחָמָהve/KE/rev-ham/mil/cha/MAin the midst of the battleוְהִנֵּה־אִישׁve/hin/NE-ishand behold a manסָרsarturned asideוַיָּבֵאvay/ya/VEand he broughtאֵלַיe/LAYto meאִישׁisha manוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidשְׁמֹרshe/MORkeepאֶת־הָאִישׁet-ha/ISHthe manהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisאִם־הִפָּקֵדim-hip/pa/KEDif missingיִפָּקֵדyip/pa/KEDhe is missingוְהָיְתָהve/ha/ye/TAthen shall beנַפְשְׁךָnaf/she/KHAyour lifeתַּחַתTA/chatforנַפְשׁוֹnaf/SHOhis lifeאוֹoorכִכַּר־כֶּסֶףkhik/KAR-KE/sefa talent of silverתִּשְׁקוֹל׃tish/KOLyou shall pay

    And as the king passed by, he cried unto the king: and he said, Thy servant went out into the midst of the battle; and, behold, a man turned aside, and brought a man unto me, and said, Keep this man: if by any means he be missing, then shall thy life be for his life, or else thou shalt pay a talent of silver.

40. 40

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand asעַבְדְּךָav/de/KHAyour servantעֹשֵׂהo/SEwas busyהֵנָּהHEN/nahereוָהֵנָּהva/HEN/naand thereוְהוּאve/HUheאֵינֶנּוּe/NEN/nuwas goneוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himמֶלֶךְ־יִשְׂרָאֵלME/lekh-Yis/ra/ELthe king of Israelכֵּןkensoמִשְׁפָּטֶךָmish/pa/TE/khayour sentenceאַתָּהat/TAyou yourselfחָרָצְתָּ׃cha/RATS/tayou have decided

    And as thy servant was busy here and there, he was gone. And the king of Israel said unto him, So shall thy judgment be; thyself hast decided it.

41. 41

    וַיְמַהֵרvay/ma/HERand he hurriedוַיָּסַרvay/YA/sarand he took awayאֶת־הָאֲפֵרet-ha/a/FERthe bandage(מעל)ml[מֵעֲלֵי]me/a/LEfrom offעֵינָיוe/NAYVhis eyesוַיַּכֵּרvay/yak/KERand recognizedאֹתוֹo/TOhimמֶלֶךְME/lekhthe king ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelכִּיkithatמֵהַנְּבִיאִיםme/han/ne/vi/IMfrom the prophetsהוּא׃huhe

    And he hasted, and took the ashes away from his face; and the king of Israel discerned him that he was of the prophets.

42. 42

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himכֹּהkothusאָמַרa/MARsaysיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDיַעַןYA/anbecauseשִׁלַּחְתָּshil/LACH/tayou have let goאֶת־אִישׁ־חֶרְמִיet-ish-cher/MIthe man of My banמִיָּדmiy/YADfrom your handוְהָיְתָהve/ha/ye/TAtherefore shall beנַפְשְׁךָnaf/she/KHAyour lifeתַּחַתTA/chatforנַפְשׁוֹnaf/SHOhis lifeוְעַמְּךָve/am/me/KHAand your peopleתַּחַתTA/chatforעַמּוֹ׃am/MOhis people

    And he said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Because thou hast let go out of thy hand a man whom I appointed to utter destruction, therefore thy life shall go for his life, and thy people for his people.

43. 43

    וַיֵּלֶךְvay/YE/lekhand wentמֶלֶךְ־יִשְׂרָאֵלME/lekh-Yis/ra/ELthe king of Israelעַל־בֵּיתוֹal-be/TOto his houseסַרsarsullenוְזָעֵףve/za/EFand furiousוַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand cameשֹׁמְרוֹנָה׃Shom/RO/nato Samaria

    And the king of Israel went to his house heavy and displeased, and came to Samaria.
