   And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and withal how he had slain all the prophets with the sword.

   Then Jezebel sent a messenger unto Elijah, saying, So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by to morrow about this time.

   And when he saw that, he arose, and went for his life, and came to Beer-sheba, which belongeth to Judah, and left his servant there.

   וְהוּא־הָלַךְve/HU-ha/LAKHand he wentבַּמִּדְבָּרbam/mid/BARin the wildernessדֶּרֶךְDE/rekha journey ofיוֹםyoma dayוַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand cameוַיֵּשֶׁבvay/YE/shevand he satתַּחַתTA/chatunderרֹתֶםRO/tema broom plant(אחת)chat[אֶחָד]e/CHADoneוַיִּשְׁאַלvay/yish/ALand askedאֶת־נַפְשׁוֹet-naf/SHOfor his lifeלָמוּתla/MUTto dieוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidרַבravenoughעַתָּהat/TAnowיְהֹוָהAdonaiO LORDקַחkachtakeנַפְשִׁיnaf/SHImy lifeכִּי־לֹא־טוֹבki-lo-tovfor not betterאָנֹכִיa/no/KHIam Iמֵאֲבֹתָי׃me/a/vo/TAYthan my fathers

   But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.

   And as he lay and slept under a juniper tree, behold, then an angel touched him, and said unto him, Arise and eat.

   וַיַּבֵּטvay/yab/BETand he lookedוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdמְרַאֲשֹׁתָיוme/ra/a/sho/TAYVat his headעֻגַתu/GATa cake ofרְצָפִיםre/tsa/FIMhot stonesוְצַפַּחַתve/tsap/PA/chatand a jug ofמָיִםMA/yimwaterוַיֹּאכַלvay/YO/khaland he ateוַיֵּשְׁתְּvay/YESHTand he drankוַיָּשׇׁבvay/YA/shovand againוַיִּשְׁכָּב׃vay/yish/KAVand he lay down

   And he looked, and, behold, there was a cake baken on the coals, and a cruse of water at his head. And he did eat and drink, and laid him down again.

   וַיָּשׇׁבvay/YA/shovand came backמַלְאַךְmal/AKHthe angel ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDשֵׁנִיתshe/NITa second timeוַיִּגַּע־בּוֹvay/yig/GA-boand touched himוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidקוּםkumariseאֱכֹלe/KHOLeatכִּיkibecauseרַבravtoo greatמִמְּךָmim/me/KHAfor youהַדָּרֶךְ׃had/DA/rekhthe journey

   And the angel of the LORD came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise and eat; because the journey is too great for thee.

8. 8

   וַיָּקׇםvay/YA/komand he aroseוַיֹּאכַלvay/YO/khaland ateוַיִּשְׁתֶּהvay/yish/TEand he drankוַיֵּלֶךְvay/YE/lekhand wentבְּכֹחַbe/KHO/achin the strength ofהָאֲכִילָהha/a/khi/LAfoodהַהִיאha/HIthatאַרְבָּעִיםar/ba/IMfortyיוֹםyomdaysוְאַרְבָּעִיםve/ar/ba/IMand fortyלַיְלָהLAY/lanightsעַדadtoהַרharthe mountain ofהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodחֹרֵב׃Cho/REVHoreb

   And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of God.

   וַיָּבֹא־שָׁםvay/ya/VO-shamand he came thereאֶל־הַמְּעָרָהel-ham/me/a/RAto the caveוַיָּלֶןvay/YA/lenand he lodgedשָׁםshamthereוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdדְבַר־יְהֹוָהde/VAR-Adonaithe word of the LORDאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidלוֹloto himמַה־לְּךָma-le/KHAwhat are you doingפֹהfohereאֵלִיָּהוּ׃E/liy/YA/huElijah

   And he came thither unto a cave, and lodged there; and, behold, the word of the LORD came to him, and he said unto him, What doest thou here, Elijah?

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidקַנֹּאkan/NObe zealousקִנֵּאתִיkin/NE/tiI have been zealousלַיהֹוָהla-Adonaito the LORDאֱלֹהֵיe/lo/HEthe God ofצְבָאוֹתtse/va/OTof hostsכִּי־עָזְבוּki-a/ze/VUfor have forsakenבְרִיתְךָve/ri/te/KHAYour covenantבְּנֵיbe/NEthe children ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelאֶת־מִזְבְּחֹתֶיךָet-miz/be/cho/TE/khaYour altarsהָרָסוּha/RA/suthey have thrown downוְאֶת־נְבִיאֶיךָve/ET-ne/vi/E/khaand Your prophetsהָרְגוּha/re/GUthey have killedבֶחָרֶבve/CHA/revwith the swordוָאִוָּתֵרva/iv/va/TERand I am leftאֲנִיa/NIIלְבַדִּיle/vad/DIaloneוַיְבַקְשׁוּvay/vak/SHUand they seekאֶת־נַפְשִׁיet-naf/SHImy lifeלְקַחְתָּהּ׃le/kach/TAto take it

    And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.

    And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake:

12. 12

    וְאַחַרve/a/CHARand afterהָרַעַשׁha/RA/ashthe earthquakeאֵשׁeshfireלֹאlonotבָאֵשׁva/ESHin the fireיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDוְאַחַרve/a/CHARand afterהָאֵשׁha/ESHthe fireקוֹלkola voiceדְּמָמָהde/ma/MAstillדַקָּה׃dak/KAsmall

    And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.

13. 13

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passכִּשְׁמֹעַkish/MO/awhen heardאֵלִיָּהוּE/liy/YA/huElijahוַיָּלֶטvay/YA/letand he wrappedפָּנָיוpa/NAYVhis faceבְּאַדַּרְתּוֹbe/ad/dar/TOin his cloakוַיֵּצֵאvay/ye/TSEand went outוַיַּעֲמֹדvay/ya/a/MODand stoodפֶּתַחPE/tachat the entrance ofהַמְּעָרָהham/me/a/RAthe caveוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himקוֹלkola voiceוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidמַה־לְּךָma-le/KHAwhat are you doingפֹהfohereאֵלִיָּהוּ׃E/liy/YA/huElijah

    And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here, Elijah?

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himלֵךְlekhgoשׁוּבshuvreturnלְדַרְכְּךָle/dar/ke/KHAon your wayמִדְבַּרָהmid/BA/rato the wilderness ofדַמָּשֶׂקDam/MA/sekDamascusוּבָאתָu/VA/taand when you comeוּמָשַׁחְתָּu/ma/shach/TAanointאֶת־חֲזָאֵלet-Cha/za/ELHazaelלְמֶלֶךְle/ME/lekhkingעַל־אֲרָם׃al-A/RAMover Aram

    And the LORD said unto him, Go, return on thy way to the wilderness of Damascus: and when thou comest, anoint Hazael to be king over Syria:

16. 16

    וְאֵתve/ETandיֵהוּאYe/HUJehuבֶן־נִמְשִׁיven-Nim/SHIthe son of Nimshiתִּמְשַׁחtim/SHACHyou shall anointלְמֶלֶךְle/ME/lekhkingעַל־יִשְׂרָאֵלal-Yis/ra/ELover Israelוְאֶת־אֱלִישָׁעve/ET-e/li/SHAand Elishaבֶּן־שָׁפָטben-Sha/FATthe son of Shaphatמֵאָבֵלme/A/VELfrom Abel-מְחוֹלָהme/cho/LAmeholahתִּמְשַׁחtim/SHACHyou shall anointלְנָבִיאle/na/VIas prophetתַּחְתֶּיךָ׃tach/TE/khain your place

    And Jehu the son of Nimshi shalt thou anoint to be king over Israel: and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah shalt thou anoint to be prophet in thy room.

17. 17

    וְהָיָהve/ha/YAand it shall beהַנִּמְלָטhan/nim/LATthe one who escapesמֵחֶרֶבme/CHE/revfrom the sword ofחֲזָאֵלCha/za/ELHazaelיָמִיתya/MITshall killיֵהוּאYe/HUJehuוְהַנִּמְלָטve/han/nim/LATand the one who escapesמֵחֶרֶבme/CHE/revfrom the sword ofיֵהוּאYe/HUJehuיָמִיתya/MITshall killאֱלִישָׁע׃E/li/SHAElisha

    And it shall come to pass, that him that escapeth the sword of Hazael shall Jehu slay: and him that escapeth from the sword of Jehu shall Elisha slay.

18. 18

    וְהִשְׁאַרְתִּיve/hish/ar/TIyet I will leaveבְיִשְׂרָאֵלve/Yis/ra/ELin Israelשִׁבְעַתshiv/ATsevenאֲלָפִיםa/la/FIMthousandכׇּל־הַבִּרְכַּיִםkol-hab/bir/KA/yimall the kneesאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatלֹא־כָרְעוּlo-kha/re/Uhave not bowedלַבַּעַלlab/BA/alto the Baalוְכׇל־הַפֶּהve/KHOL-hap/PEand every mouthאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatלֹא־נָשַׁקlo-na/SHAKhas not kissedלוֹ׃lohim

    Yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.

    וַיֵּלֶךְvay/YE/lekhand wentמִשָּׁםmish/SHAMfrom thereוַיִּמְצָאvay/yim/TSAand foundאֶת־אֱלִישָׁעet-E/li/SHAElishaבֶּן־שָׁפָטben-Sha/FATthe son of Shaphatוְהוּאve/HUand he wasחֹרֵשׁcho/RESHplowingשְׁנֵים־עָשָׂרshe/NEM-a/SARtwelveצְמָדִיםtse/ma/DIMyokeלְפָנָיוle/fa/NAYVbefore himוְהוּאve/HUand heבִּשְׁנֵים־הֶעָשָׂרbish/NEM-he/a/SARwith the twelfthוַיַּעֲבֹרvay/ya/a/VORand passed byאֵלִיָּהוּE/liy/YA/huElijahאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himוַיַּשְׁלֵךְvay/yash/LEKHand he castאַדַּרְתּוֹad/dar/TOhis cloakאֵלָיו׃e/LAYVupon him

    So he departed thence, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he with the twelfth: and Elijah passed by him, and cast his mantle upon him.

    וַיַּעֲזֹבvay/ya/a/ZOVand he leftאֶת־הַבָּקָרet-hab/ba/KARthe oxenוַיָּרׇץvay/YA/rotsand he ranאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterאֵלִיָּהוּE/liy/YA/huElijahוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֶשְּׁקָה־נָּאesh/she/KA-nalet me kiss nowלְאָבִיle/a/VImy fatherוּלְאִמִּיu/le/im/MIand my motherוְאֵלְכָהve/el/KHAand I will goאַחֲרֶיךָa/cha/RE/khaafter youוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidלוֹloto himלֵךְlekhgoשׁוּבshuvbackכִּיkiforמֶה־עָשִׂיתִיme-a/SI/tiwhat have I doneלָךְ׃lakhto you

    And he left the oxen, and ran after Elijah, and said, Let me, I pray thee, kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow thee. And he said unto him, Go back again: for what have I done to thee?

    וַיָּשׇׁבvay/YA/shovand he turned backמֵאַחֲרָיוme/a/cha/RAYVfrom behind himוַיִּקַּחvay/yik/KACHand tookאֶת־צֶמֶדet-TSE/medthe yoke ofהַבָּקָרhab/ba/KARthe oxenוַיִּזְבָּחֵהוּvay/yiz/ba/CHE/huand slaughtered itוּבִכְלִיu/vikh/LIand with the implements ofהַבָּקָרhab/ba/KARthe oxenבִּשְּׁלָםbish/she/LAMhe boiled themהַבָּשָׂרhab/ba/SARthe fleshוַיִּתֵּןvay/yit/TENand gaveלָעָםla/AMto the peopleוַיֹּאכֵלוּvay/yo/KHE/luand they ateוַיָּקׇםvay/YA/komand he aroseוַיֵּלֶךְvay/YE/lekhand wentאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterאֵלִיָּהוּE/liy/YA/huElijahוַיְשָׁרְתֵהוּ׃vay/sha/re/TE/huand ministered to him

    And he returned back from him, and took a yoke of oxen, and slew them, and boiled their flesh with the instruments of the oxen, and gave unto the people, and they did eat. Then he arose, and went after Elijah, and ministered unto him.
