   My beloved son, I write unto you again that ye may know that I am yet alive; but I write somewhat of that which is grievous.

   For behold, I have had a sore battle with the Lamanites, in which we did not conquer; and Archeantus has fallen by the sword, and also Luram and Emron; yea, and we have lost a great number of our choice men.

   וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdבְנִיve/NImy sonיָרֵאya/REfearאֲנִיa/NIIפֶּן־יַשְׁחִיתוּpen-yash/CHI/tulest they destroyהַלָּמָנִיםhal/La/ma/NIMthe Lamanitesאֶת־הָעָםet-ha/AMthe peopleהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisכִּי־לֹאki-lofor notיָשׁוּבוּya/SHU/vuthey repentוְהַשָּׂטָןve/has/Sa/TANand Satanמְסִיתָםme/si/TAMstirs them upתָּמִידta/MIDcontinuallyלִכְעֹסlikh/OSto angerאִישׁishoneבְּרֵעֵהוּ׃be/re/E/huwith another

   And now behold, my son, I fear lest the Lamanites shall destroy this people; for they do not repent, and Satan stirreth them up continually to anger one with another.

   Behold, I am laboring with them continually; and when I speak the word of God with sharpness they tremble and anger against me; and when I use no sharpness they harden their hearts against it; wherefore, I fear lest the Spirit of the Lord hath ceased striving with them.

   כִּיkiforיִכְעֲסוּyikh/a/SUthey are angryעַד־מְאֹדad-me/ODso exceedinglyוְנִרְאֶהve/nir/Ethat it seemsלִיlito meכִּיkithatאֵיןenthere is notבָּהֶםba/HEMin themיִרְאַתyir/ATfearמָוֶתMA/vetof deathוְאַהֲבָתָםve/a/ha/va/TAMand their loveאָבְדָהa/ve/DAis lostאִישׁishoneאֶל־רֵעֵהוּel-re/E/hutowards anotherוְהֵםve/HEMand theyצְמֵאִיםtse/me/IMthirstלְדָםle/DAMfor bloodוּלְנָקָםu/le/na/KAMand revengeתָּמִיד׃ta/MIDcontinually

   For so exceedingly do they anger that it seemeth me that they have no fear of death; and they have lost their love, one towards another; and they thirst after blood and revenge continually.

   And now, my beloved son, notwithstanding their hardness, let us labor diligently; for if we should cease to labor, we should be brought under condemnation; for we have a labor to perform whilst in this tabernacle of clay, that we may conquer the enemy of all righteousness, and rest our souls in the kingdom of God.

   וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowאֶכְתֹּבekh/TOVI will writeמְעַטme/ATsomewhatעַל־סִבְלוֹתal-siv/LOTconcerning the sufferingsהָעָם־הַזֶּהha/AM-haz/ZEof this peopleכִּיkiforלְפִיle/FIaccording toהַדַּעַתhad/DA/atthe knowledgeאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichקִבַּלְתִּיkib/bal/TII receivedמֵאָמוֹרוֹןme/A/MO/ronfrom Amoronהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdיֵשׁyeshthere isלַלָּמָנִיםlal/La/ma/NIMof the Lamanitesשְׁבוּיִיםshe/vu/YIMprisonersרַבִּיםrab/BIMmanyאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichלָקְחוּla/ke/CHUthey tookמִמִּגְדַּלmim/mig/DALfrom the towerשֶׁרִיזָהshe/RI/zaof Sherrizahוְהָיוּve/ha/YUand there wereשָׁםshamthereאֲנָשִׁיםa/na/SHIMmenוְנָשִׁיםve/na/SHIMand womenוָטָף׃va/TAFand children

   And now I write somewhat concerning the sufferings of this people. For according to the knowledge which I have received from Amoron, behold, the Lamanites have many prisoners, which they took from the tower of Sherrizah; and there were men, women, and children.

8. 8

   וְאֶת־בַּעְלֵיve/ET-ba/LEand the husbandsוַאֲבוֹתva/a/VOTand fathersהַנָּשִׁיםhan/na/SHIMof the womenוְהַיְלָדִיםve/hay/la/DIMand the childrenהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/lethoseהֵמִיתוּhe/MI/tuthey slewוַיַּאֲכִילוּvay/ya/a/khi/LUand they feedאֶת־הַנָּשִׁיםet-han/na/SHIMthe womenמִבְּשַׂרmib/be/SARfrom the fleshבַּעְלֵיהֶןba/le/HENof their husbandsוְאֶת־הַיְלָדִיםve/ET-hay/la/DIMand the childrenמִבְּשַׂרmib/be/SARfrom the fleshאֲבוֹתֵיהֶםa/vo/te/HEMof their fathersוּמַיִםu/MA/yimand no waterמְעַטme/ATsave a littleיִתְּנוּyit/te/NUdo they giveלָהֶם׃la/HEMthem

   And the husbands and fathers of those women and children they have slain; and they feed the women upon the flesh of their husbands, and the children upon the flesh of their fathers; and no water, save a little, do they give unto them.

   וְאַף־גַּם־זֹאתve/AF-gam-zotand notwithstandingהַתּוֹעֵבָהhat/to/e/VAthe abominationהַגְּדוֹלָהhag/ge/do/LAthe greatהַזֹּאתhaz/ZOTthisלַלָּמָנִיםlal/La/ma/NIMof the Lamanitesלֹאlonotתִגְדַּלtig/DALexceedsמֵאֲשֶׁרme/a/SHERthan thatלְעַמֵּנוּle/am/ME/nuof our peopleבְּמוֹרִיאַנְטוּםbe/Mo/ri/AN/tumin Moriantumכִּיkiforהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdרַבּוֹתrab/BOTmanyמִבְּנוֹתmib/be/NOTfrom the daughtersהַלָּמָנִיםhal/La/ma/NIMof the Lamanitesלָקְחוּla/ke/CHUthey tookבַשֶּׁבִיvash/SHE/viprisonersוְאַחֲרֵיve/a/cha/REand afterגׇזְלָםgoz/LAMdepriving themמֵהֶןme/HENfrom themאֶת־אֲשֶׁרet-a/SHERwhichיָקָרya/KARpreciousוְנִכְבָּדve/nikh/BADand dearמִכֹּלmik/KOLof allהוּאhuwhich isהַטׇּהֳרָהhat/to/ho/RAchastityוְהַיֹּשֶׁר׃ve/hay/YO/sherand virtue

   And notwithstanding this great abomination of the Lamanites, it doth not exceed that of our people in Moriantum. For behold, many of the daughters of the Lamanites have they taken prisoners; and after depriving them of that which was most dear and precious above all things, which is chastity and virtue—

    וְאַחֲרֵיve/a/cha/REand afterעֲשׂוֹתָםa/so/TAMtheir doingאֶת־הַדָּבָרet-had/da/VARthe thingהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisרָצְחוּra/tse/CHUthey murderedאוֹתָןo/TANthemבְּאַכְזְרִיּוּתbe/akh/ze/riy/YUTwith crueltyרַבָּהrab/BAgreatוַיְעַנּוּvay/an/NUtorturingאֶת־גְּוִיָּתָןet-ge/viy/ya/TANtheir bodiesעַד־מָוֶתad-MA/vetuntil deathוְאַחֲרֵיve/a/cha/REand afterעֲשׂוֹתָםa/so/TAMtheir doingזֹאתzotthisאָכְלוּa/khe/LUthey devourאֶת־בְּשָׂרָןet-be/sa/RANtheir fleshכְּחַיּוֹתke/chay/YOTas beastsהַשָּׂדֶהhas/sa/DEof the wildמִפְּנֵיmip/pe/NEbecause ofקְשִׁיke/SHIhardnessלִבָּםlib/BAMof their heartוַיַּעֲשׂוּvay/ya/a/SUand they didזֹאתzotthisלְאוֹתle/OTfor a tokenגְּבוּרָה׃ge/vu/RAof bravery

    And after they had done this thing, they did murder them in a most cruel manner, torturing their bodies even unto death; and after they have done this, they devour their flesh like unto wild beasts, because of the hardness of their hearts; and they do it for a token of bravery.

    הוֹיhoyOבְּנִיbe/NImy sonהָאָהוּבha/a/HUVthe belovedאֵיךְekhhow canיִהְיֶהyih/YEbeעַםama peopleכָּזֶהka/ZEsuchאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichבְּלִיbe/LIwithoutדֶרֶךְ׃DE/rekhcivilization

    O my beloved son, how can a people like this, that are without civilization—

12. 12

    וְרַקve/RAKand onlyשָׁנִיםsha/NIMyearsמְעַטּוֹתme/at/TOTa fewעָבְרוּa/ve/RUpassedוְהֵםve/HEMand theyהָיוּha/YUwereעַםampeopleיְשָׁרִיםye/sha/RIMcivilוְנָעִים׃ve/na/IMand delightsome

    (And only a few years have passed away, and they were a civil and a delightsome people)

13. 13

    אַךְakhbutהוֹיhoyOבְּנִיbe/NImy sonאֵיךְekhhow canיִהְיֶהyih/YEbeעַםama peopleכָּזֶהka/ZEsuchאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichשִׂמְחָתָםsim/cha/TAMtheir delightבְּתוֹעֵבָהbe/to/e/VAin abominationרַבָּהrab/BAso muchכָּזֹאת׃ka/ZOTsuch

    But O my son, how can a people like this, whose delight is in so much abomination—

14. 14

    אֵיךְekhhowנְצַפֶּהne/tsap/PEcan we expectכִּיkithatיַחְשֹׁךְyach/SHOKHwill stayאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodיָדוֹya/DOhis handמִמִּשְׁפָּטmim/mish/PATin judgmentעָלֵינוּ׃a/LE/nuagainst us

    How can we expect that God will stay his hand in judgment against us?

15. 15

    הִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdלִבִּיlib/BImy heartזֹעֵקzo/EKcriesאוֹיoywoלָעָםla/AMto the peopleהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisקוּמָהku/MAcome outלַמִּשְׁפָּטlam/mish/PATto the judgmentאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMO Godוְהַסְתֵּרve/has/TERand hideחַטֹּאתָםchat/to/TAMtheir sinsוְרִשְׁעָםve/rish/AMand their wickednessוְתוֹעֲבוֹתֵיהֶםve/to/a/vo/te/HEMand their abominationsמִלְּפָנֶיךָ׃mil/le/fa/NE/khafrom before your face

    Behold, my heart cries: Wo unto this people. Come out in judgment, O God, and hide their sins, and wickedness, and abominations from before thy face!

    וְעוֹדve/ODand againבְּנִיbe/NImy sonאַלְמָנוֹתal/ma/NOTwidowsרַבּוֹתrab/BOTmanyוּבְנוֹתֵיהֶןu/ve/no/te/HENand their daughtersנִשְׁאֲרוּnish/a/RUremainedבְּשֶׁרִיזָהbe/She/RI/zain Sherrizahוְאֵתve/ETandחֵלֶקCHE/lekthat partהַצֵּדָהhats/tse/DAof the provisionsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichלֹאlonotלָקְחוּla/ke/CHUcarried awayהַלָּמָנִיםhal/La/ma/NIMthe Lamanitesהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdצְבָאtse/VAarmyזֶנֶפִיZE/ne/fiof Zenephiלָקַחla/KACHcarried awayוַיַּעַזְבוּםvay/ya/az/VUMand left themלָנוּעַla/NU/ato wanderלְבַקֵּשׁle/vak/KESHto seekאֹכֶלO/khelfoodבַּאֲשֶׁרba/a/SHERwhithersoeverיִמְצָאוּyim/TSA/uthey canוְנָשִׁיםve/na/SHIMand womenזְקֵנוֹתze/ke/NOToldרַבּוֹתrab/BOTmanyיִתְעַלַּפְנָהyit/al/laf/NAfaintבַדֶּרֶךְvad/DE/rekhon the wayוְתָמֹתְנָה׃ve/ta/mot/NAand die

    And again, my son, there are many widows and their daughters who remain in Sherrizah; and that part of the provisions which the Lamanites did not carry away, behold, the army of Zenephi has carried away, and left them to wander whithersoever they can for food; and many old women do faint by the way and die.

    וְהַצָּבָאve/hats/tsa/VAand the armyאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichעִמִּיim/MIwith meחַלָּשׁchal/LASHis weakוְצִבְאוֹתve/tsiv/OTand the armiesהַלָּמָנִיםhal/La/ma/NIMof the LamanitesבֵּיןbenbetwixtשֶׁרִיזָהShe/RI/zaSherrizahוּבֵינִיu/ve/NIand between meוְכׇל־אֲשֶׁרve/KHOL-a/SHERand all whoנָסוּNA/sufledאֶל־צְבָאel-tse/VAunto the armyאַהֲרֹןA/ha/RONof Aaronנָפְלוּna/fe/LUfellטֶרֶףTE/refvictimsלְאַכְזְרִיּוּתָםle/akh/ze/riy/yu/TAMto their brutalityהַנּוֹרָאָה׃han/no/ra/Aawful

    And the army which is with me is weak; and the armies of the Lamanites are betwixt Sherrizah and me; and as many as have fled to the army of Aaron have fallen victims to their awful brutality.

    הוֹיhoyOמְשׁוּבַתme/shu/VATdepravityעַמִּיam/MIof my peopleבְּלִיbe/LIwithoutמִשְׁפָּטmish/PATorderוּבְלִי־רַחֲמִיםu/ve/LI-ra/cha/MIMand without mercyהֵמָּהHEM/mathey areהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdאֲנִיa/NIIרַקrakbutאִישׁisha manוְרַקve/RAKand onlyכֹּחַKO/achthe strengthאִישׁishof a manלִיlito meוְלֹאve/LOand notאוּכַלu/KHALI am ableעוֹדodanymoreלְהַעֲמִידle/ha/a/MIDto enforceמִצְוֹתָי׃mits/vo/TAYmy commands

    O the depravity of my people! They are without order and without mercy. Behold, I am but a man, and I have but the strength of a man, and I cannot any longer enforce my commands.

19. 19

    וַיֶּחֶזְקוּvay/ye/chez/KUand they became strongבְּסוּרָםbe/su/RAMin their perversionוַיִּהְיוּvay/yih/YUand they areכְּחַיּוֹתke/chay/YOTas beastsכֻּלָּםkul/LAMalikeלֹאlonotיַחְמְלוּyach/me/LUsparingעַל־אִישׁal-ishnoneלֹאlonotזָקֵןza/KENoldוְלֹאve/LOand notצָעִירtsa/IRyoungוְיִשְׂמְחוּve/yis/me/CHUand they delightבְּכׇל־דָּבָרbe/KHOL-da/VARin everythingזוּלַתzu/LATsaveהַטּוֹבhat/TOVthe goodוְסֵבֶלve/SE/veland the sufferingנָשֵׁינוּna/SHE/nuof our womenוִילָדֵינוּvi/la/de/NUand our childrenעַל־כׇּל־פְּנֵיal-kol-pe/NEupon all faceהָאָרֶץha/A/retsof the landהַזֹּאתhaz/ZOTthisגָּדַלga/DALexceedsמִכֹּלmik/KOLeverythingלֹא־תוּכַלlo-tu/KHALnot canלָשׁוֹןla/SHONtongueלְסַפֵּרle/sap/PERto tellוְלֹאve/LOand notיִכָּתֵב׃yik/ka/TEVcan it be written

    And they have become strong in their perversion; and they are alike brutal, sparing none, neither old nor young; and they delight in everything save that which is good; and the suffering of our women and our children upon all the face of this land doth exceed everything; yea, tongue cannot tell, neither can it be written.

    וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowבְּנִיbe/NImy sonלֹאlonotאוֹסִיףo/SIFI dwellלְהַאֲרִיךְle/ha/a/RIKHlongerבַּמַּרְאֶהbam/mar/Eupon the sceneהַנּוֹרָאhan/no/RAthe horribleהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdיָדַעְתָּya/DA/tayou knowרִשְׁעַתrish/ATwickednessהָעָם־הַזֶּהha/AM-haz/ZEof this peopleיָדַעְתָּya/DA/tayou knowכִּיkithatהֵםhemtheyבְּלִי־חֹקbe/LI-chokwithout principleוַחֲדֵלִיםva/cha/de/LIMand pastמֵחוּשׁme/CHUSHfrom feelingוְרִשְׁעָתָםve/rish/a/TAMand their wickednessעָלְתָהa/le/TAexceedsעַל־רִשְׁעַתal-rish/ATthatהַלָּמָנִים׃hal/La/ma/NIMof the Lamanites

    And now, my son, I dwell no longer upon this horrible scene. Behold, thou knowest the wickedness of this people; thou knowest that they are without principle, and past feeling; and their wickedness doth exceed that of the Lamanites.

21. 21

    הִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdבְנִיve/NImy sonלֹאlonotאוּכַלu/KHALI am ableלְהַפְגִּיעַle/haf/GI/arecommendבַּעֲדָםba/a/DAMthemאֶל־אֱלֹהִיםel-e/lo/HIMunto Godפֶּן־יַכֶּהpen-yak/KElest shall smiteאֹתִי׃o/TIme

    Behold, my son, I cannot recommend them unto God lest he should smite me.

22. 22

    אַךְakhbutהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdבְנִיve/NImy sonאוֹתְךָot/KHAyouאַפְקִידaf/KIDI recommendבְּיַד־אֱלֹהִיםbe/YAD-e/lo/HIMunto Godוְאֶבְטַחve/ev/TACHand I shall trustבַּמָּשִׁיחַbam/Ma/SHI/achin Christכִּיkithatתִּוָּשֵׁעַtiv/va/SHE/ayou will be savedוַאֲנִיva/a/NIand Iמִתְפַּלֵּלmit/pal/LELprayאֶל־אֱלֹהִיםel-e/lo/HIMunto Godלַחֲשֹׂךְla/cha/SOKHhe will spareחַיֶּיךָchay/YE/khayour lifeלִרְאוֹתlir/OTto witnessשׁוּבshuvthe returnעַמּוֹam/MOof his peopleאֵלָיוe/LAYVunto himאוֹoorשִׁבְרָםshiv/RAMtheir destructionכָּלִילka/LILutterכִּיkiforיָדַעְתִּיya/DA/tiI knowכִּיkithatיֹאבְדוּyo/ve/DUthey shall perishאִם־לֹאim-loexceptיָשׁוּבוּya/SHU/vuthey repentוְיָשׁוּבוּve/ya/SHU/vuand returnאֵלָיו׃e/LAYVunto him

    But behold, my son, I recommend thee unto God, and I trust in Christ that thou wilt be saved; and I pray unto God that he will spare thy life, to witness the return of his people unto him, or their utter destruction; for I know that they must perish except they repent and return unto him.

    וְאִם־יֹאבְדוּve/IM-yo/ve/DUand if they shall perishיִהְיֶהyih/YEit will beכַּיָּרֶדִיםkay/Ya/re/DIMas the Jareditesבַּעֲבוּרba/a/VURbecause ofזְדוֹןze/DONthe willfulnessלִבָּםlib/BAMof their heartsבְּבַקְשָׁםbe/vak/SHAMseekingדָּםdambloodוְנָקָם׃ve/na/KAMand revenge

    And if they perish it will be like unto the Jaredites, because of the wilfulness of their hearts, seeking for blood and revenge.

24. 24

    וְאִם־כֵּןve/IM-kenand if thusיִהְיֶהyih/YEit so beכִּיkithatיֹאבֵדוּyo/VE/duthey shall perishיָדַעְנוּya/DA/nuwe knowכִּי־רַבִּיםki-rab/BIMthat manyמֵאַחֵינוּme/a/CHE/nuof our brethrenעָבְרוּa/ve/RUdeserted overאֶל־הַלָּמָנִיםel-Hal/la/ma/NIMunto the Lamanitesוְרַבִּיםve/rab/BIMand manyעוֹדodmoreיַעַבְרוּya/av/RUwill also desert overאֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMto themלָכֵןla/KHENwhereforeכְּתֹבke/TOVwriteדְּבָרִיםde/va/RIMthingsמְעַטִּיםme/at/TIMfewאִם־תִּנָּצֵלim-tin/na/TSELif you are sparedוַאֲנִיva/a/NIand Iאֶגְוַעeg/VAI shall perishוְלֹאve/LOand notאֶרְאֶךָּer/EK/kasee youאַךְakhbutאֶבְטַחev/TACHI shall trustכִּיkithatאֶרְאֶךָּer/EK/kasee youמְהֵרָהme/he/RAsoonכִּי־יֵשׁki-yeshfor there isלִיlito meכִּתְבֵיkit/VErecordsקֹדֶשׁKO/deshsacredאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichאֶתְּנֵםet/te/NEMI would deliver upלְךָ׃le/KHAunto you

    And if it so be that they perish, we know that many of our brethren have deserted over unto the Lamanites, and many more will also desert over unto them; wherefore, write somewhat a few things, if thou art spared and I shall perish and not see thee; but I trust that I may see thee soon; for I have sacred records that I would deliver up unto thee.

    בְּנִיbe/NImy sonהֱיֵהhe/YEbeנֶאֱמָןne/e/MANfaithfulבַּמָּשִׁיחַbam/Ma/SHI/achin Christוְאַל־יַעֲצִבוּךָve/AL-ya/a/tsi/vu/KHAand may not grieve youהַדְּבָרִיםhad/de/va/RIMthe thingsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichכָּתַבְתִּיka/TAV/tiI wroteלְהַכְבִּידְךָle/hakh/bi/de/KHAto weigh you downעַד־מָוֶתad-MA/vetuntil deathאַךְakhbutיְרוֹמֵםye/ro/MEMmay lift upאוֹתְךָot/KHAyouהַמָּשִׁיחַHam/ma/SHI/achChristוִיהִיvi/HIand may beסִבְלוֹתָיוsiv/lo/TAYVhis sufferingsוּמוֹתוֹu/mo/TOand his deathוְהַרְאוֹתve/har/OTand showingגְּוִיָּתוֹge/viy/ya/TOof his bodyלַאֲבוֹתֵינוּla/a/vo/TE/nuto our fathersוְחַסְדּוֹve/chas/DOand his mercyוְאֹרֶךְve/O/rekhand the longsufferingרוּחוֹru/CHOof his spiritוְתִקְוַתve/tik/VATand hopeכְּבוֹדוֹke/vo/DOof his gloryוְחַיֵּיve/chay/YEand lifeעוֹלָםo/LAMeternalשׁוֹכְנִיםshokh/NIMrestבְּרוּחֲךָbe/ru/cha/KHAin your mindלָעַד׃la/ADforever

    My son, be faithful in Christ; and may not the things which I have written grieve thee, to weigh thee down unto death; but may Christ lift thee up, and may his sufferings and death, and the showing his body unto our fathers, and his mercy and long-suffering, and the hope of his glory and of eternal life, rest in your mind forever.

    And may the grace of God the Father, whose throne is high in the heavens, and our Lord Jesus Christ, who sitteth on the right hand of his power, until all things shall become subject unto him, be, and abide with you forever. Amen.
