    And now I, Moroni, proceed to give an account of those ancient inhabitants who were destroyed by the hand of the Lord upon the face of this north country.

    And I take mine account from the twenty and four plates which were found by the people of Limhi, which is called the Book of Ether.

    And as I suppose that the first part of this record, which speaks concerning the creation of the world, and also of Adam, and an account from that time even to the great tower, and whatsoever things transpired among the children of men until that time, is had among the Jews—

    Therefore I do not write those things which transpired from the days of Adam until that time; but they are had upon the plates; and whoso findeth them, the same will have power that he may get the full account.

    But behold, I give not the full account, but a part of the account I give, from the tower down until they were destroyed.

    And on this wise do I give the account. He that wrote this record was Ether, and he was a descendant of Coriantor.

    Coriantor was the son of Moron.

    And Moron was the son of Ethem.

    And Aaron was a descendant of Heth, who was the son of Hearthom.

    And Riplakish was the son of Shez.

    And Shez was the son of Heth.

    And Heth was the son of Com.

    הוּאhuthis isיֶרֶדYE/redJaredאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichיָצָאya/TSAcame forthעִם־אָחִיוim-a/CHIVwith his brotherוּמִשְׁפְּחוֹתֵיהֶםu/mish/pe/cho/te/HEMand their familiesוַאֲחֵרִיםva/a/che/RIMand othersוּמִשְׁפְּחוֹתֵיהֶםu/mish/pe/cho/te/HEMand their familiesמִן־הַמִּגְדָּלmin-ham/mig/DALfrom the towerהַגָּדוֹלhag/ga/DOLthe greatבְּעֵתbe/ETat the timeאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichבָּלַלba/LALconfoundedיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiאֶת־שְׂפַתet-se/FATthe languageהָעָםha/AMof the peopleוַיִּשָּׁבַעvay/yish/sha/VAand sworeבַּחֲרוֹןba/cha/RONin the fiercenessאַפּוֹap/POof his wrathכִּיkithatיְפִיצֵםye/fi/TSEMhe would scatter themעַל־כׇּל־פְּנֵיal-kol-pe/NEupon all the faceהָאֲדָמָהha/a/da/MAof the earthוְכִדְבַרve/khid/VARand according to the wordיְהוָהAdonaiof Adonaiנָפֹצוּna/FO/tsuwere scatteredהָעָם׃ha/AMthe people

    Which Jared came forth with his brother and their families, with some others and their families, from the great tower, at the time the Lord confounded the language of the people, and swore in his wrath that they should be scattered upon all the face of the earth; and according to the word of the Lord the people were scattered.

    וַאֲחִיva/a/CHIand the brotherיֶרֶדYE/redof Jaredאִישׁisha manגָּדוֹלga/DOLlargeוְגִבּוֹרve/gib/BORand mightyוְאִישׁve/ISHand a manאֲשֶׁר־לוֹa/SHER-lowho hadחֶסֶדCHE/sedfavorרַבravgreatמֵאֵתme/ETfromיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֵלָיוe/LAYVunto himיֶרֶדYE/redJaredאָחִיוa/CHIVhis brotherזְעַקze/AKcryאֶל־יְהוָהel-Adonaiunto Adonaiכִּי־לֹאki-lothat notיִבְלֹלyiv/LOLhe confoundאוֹתָנוּo/TA/nuusוְלֹאve/LOand notנָבִיןna/VINwe understandאֶת־דְּבָרֵינוּ׃et-de/va/re/NUour words

    And the brother of Jared being a large and mighty man, and a man highly favored of the Lord, Jared, his brother, said unto him: Cry unto the Lord, that he will not confound us that we may not understand our words.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּיkithatזָעַקza/AKcriedאֲחִיa/CHIthe brotherיֶרֶדYE/redof Jaredאֶל־יְהוָהel-Adonaiunto Adonaiוַיְרַחֵםvay/ra/CHEMand had compassionיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiעַל־יֶרֶדal-YE/redupon Jaredוְלֹאve/LOand notבָלַלva/LALhe confoundedאֶת־שְׂפַתet-se/FATthe languageיֶרֶדYE/redof Jaredוְיֶרֶדve/YE/redand Jaredוְאָחִיוve/a/CHIVand his brotherלֹאlonotנִבְלְלוּ׃niv/le/LUwere confounded

    And it came to pass that the brother of Jared did cry unto the Lord, and the Lord had compassion upon Jared; therefore he did not confound the language of Jared; and Jared and his brother were not confounded.

  36. 36

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidיֶרֶדYE/redJaredאֶל־אָחִיוel-a/CHIVunto his brotherזְעַקze/AKcryעוֹדodagainאֶל־יְהוָהel-Adonaiunto Adonaiאוּלַיu/LAYit may be thatיָשִׁיבya/SHIVhe will turn awayאֶת־חֲרוֹןet-cha/RONthe fiercenessאַפּוֹap/POof his angerמֵרֵעֵינוּme/re/e/NUfrom our friendsוְלֹאve/LOand notיִבְלֹלyiv/LOLhe confoundאֶת־שְׂפָתָם׃et-se/fa/TAMtheir language

    Then Jared said unto his brother: Cry again unto the Lord, and it may be that he will turn away his anger from them who are our friends, that he confound not their language.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּיkithatזָעַקza/AKcriedאֲחִיa/CHIthe brotherיֶרֶדYE/redof Jaredאֶל־יְהוָהel-Adonaiunto Adonaiוַיְרַחֵםvay/ra/CHEMand had compassionיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiעַל־רֵעֵיהֶםal-re/e/HEMupon their friendsוּמִשְׁפְּחוֹתֵיהֶםu/mish/pe/cho/te/HEMand their familiesגַּם־הֵםgam-hemalsoוְלֹאve/LOand notנִבְלְלוּ׃niv/le/LUwere confounded

    And it came to pass that the brother of Jared did cry unto the Lord, and the Lord had compassion upon their friends and their families also, that they were not confounded.

  38. 38

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּיkithatהוֹסִיףho/SIFcontinuedיֶרֶדYE/redJaredלְדַבֵּרle/dab/BERto speakאֶל־אָחִיוel-a/CHIVunto his brotherלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingלֵךְlekhgoוּדְרֹשׁu/de/ROSHand inquireמֵאֵתme/ETfromיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiאִםimifיְגָרְשֵׁנוּye/ga/re/she/NUhe will drive usמִן־הָאָרֶץmin-ha/A/retsfrom the landוְאִםve/IMand ifיְגָרְשֵׁנוּye/ga/re/she/NUhe will drive usמִן־הָאָרֶץmin-ha/A/retsfrom the landזְעַקze/AKcryאֵלָיוe/LAYVunto himאָנָהA/nawhitherנֵלֵךְne/LEKHwe shall goוּמִיu/MIand whoיוֹדֵעַyo/DE/aknowsאוּלַיu/LAYperhapsיוֹבִילֵנוּyo/vi/le/NUwill carry usיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiאֶל־אֶרֶץel-E/retsinto a landנִבְחֶרֶתniv/CHE/retchoiceמִכׇּל־הָאָרֶץmik/KOL-ha/A/retsabove all the earthוְאִם־כֵּןve/IM-kenand if it so beנִהְיֶהnih/YElet us beנֶאֱמָנִיםne/e/ma/NIMfaithfulלַיהוָהla-Adonaiunto Adonaiלְמַעַןle/MA/anthatנִירָשֶׁנָּה׃ni/ra/shen/NAwe may inherit it

    And it came to pass that Jared spake again unto his brother, saying: Go and inquire of the Lord whether he will drive us out of the land, and if he will drive us out of the land, cry unto him whither we shall go. And who knoweth but the Lord will carry us forth into a land which is choice above all the earth? And if it so be, let us be faithful unto the Lord, that we may receive it for our inheritance.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּיkithatזָעַקza/AKcriedאֲחִיa/CHIthe brotherיֶרֶדYE/redof Jaredאֶל־יְהוָהel-Adonaiunto Adonaiכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERaccording asדִּבֶּרdib/BERspokeפִּיpithe mouthיֶרֶד׃YE/redof Jared

    And it came to pass that the brother of Jared did cry unto the Lord according to that which had been spoken by the mouth of Jared.

  40. 40

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּיkithatשָׁמַעsha/MAheardיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiאֶת־אֲחִיet-a/CHIthe brotherיֶרֶדYE/redof Jaredוַיְרַחֵםvay/ra/CHEMand had compassionעָלָיוa/LAYVupon himוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֵלָיו׃e/LAYVunto him

    And it came to pass that the Lord did hear the brother of Jared, and had compassion upon him, and said unto him:

  41. 41

    קוּםkumgo toאֱסֹףe/SOFgather togetherאֶת־מִקְנְךָet-mik/ne/KHAyour flocksזָכָרza/KHARmaleוּנְקֵבָהu/ne/ke/VAand femaleמִכׇּל־מִיןmik/KOL-minof every kindוְגַםve/GAMand alsoמִזֶּרַעmiz/ZE/raof the seedהָאָרֶץha/A/retsof the earthמִכׇּל־מִיןmik/KOL-minof every kindוּמִשְׁפְּחוֹתֶיךָu/mish/pe/cho/te/KHAand your familiesוְגַם־יֶרֶדve/GAM-YE/redand also Jaredאָחִיךָa/CHI/khayour brotherוּמִשְׁפַּחְתּוֹu/mish/pach/TOand his familyוְגַםve/GAMand alsoרֵעֶיךָre/E/khayour friendsוּמִשְׁפְּחוֹתֵיהֶםu/mish/pe/cho/te/HEMand their familiesוְרֵעֵיve/re/Eand the friendsיֶרֶדYE/redof Jaredוּמִשְׁפְּחוֹתֵיהֶם׃u/mish/pe/cho/te/HEMand their families

    Go to and gather together thy flocks, both male and female, of every kind; and also of the seed of the earth of every kind; and thy families; and also Jared thy brother and his family; and also thy friends and their families, and the friends of Jared and their families.

    וְכַאֲשֶׁרve/kha/a/SHERand whenתַּעֲשֶׂהta/a/SEyou have doneזֹאתzotthisתֵּלֵךְte/LEKHyou shall goבְּרֹאשָׁםbe/ro/SHAMat their headאֶל־הָעֵמֶקel-ha/E/mekinto the valleyאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichצָפוֹנָהtsa/FO/nais northwardוְשָׁםve/SHAMand thereאֶפָּגֵשׁep/pa/GESHwill I meetעִמְּךָim/me/KHAwith youוְאֵלֵךְve/e/LEKHand I will goלְפָנֶיךָle/fa/NE/khabefore youאֶל־אֶרֶץel-E/retsinto a landנִבְחֶרֶתniv/CHE/retchoiceמִכׇּל־אַרְצוֹתmik/KOL-ar/TSOTabove all the landsהָאָרֶץ׃ha/A/retsof the earth

    And when thou hast done this thou shalt go at the head of them down into the valley which is northward. And there will I meet thee, and I will go before thee into a land which is choice above all the lands of the earth.

    וְשָׁםve/SHAMand thereאֲבָרֶכְךָa/va/rekh/KHAI will bless youוְאֶת־זַרְעֶךָve/ET-zar/E/khaand your seedוְאָקִיםve/a/KIMand will raise upלִיliunto meמִזַּרְעֲךָmiz/zar/a/KHAof your seedוּמִזֶּרַעu/miz/ZE/raand of the seedאָחִיךָa/CHI/khaof your brotherוְהַהֹלְכִיםve/ha/hol/KHIMand they who shall goאִתְּךָit/te/KHAwith youגּוֹיgoya nationגָּדוֹלga/DOLgreatוְלֹא־יִהְיֶהve/LO-yih/YEand there shall be noneגּוֹיgoynationגָּדוֹלga/DOLgreaterמִן־הַגּוֹיmin-hag/GOYthan the nationאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichאָקִיםa/KIMI shall raise upלִיliunto meמִזַּרְעֲךָmiz/zar/a/KHAof your seedעַל־כׇּל־פְּנֵיal-kol-pe/NEupon all the faceהָאָרֶץha/A/retsof the earthוְכָכָהve/KHA/khaand thusאֶעֱשֶׂהe/e/SEI will doלְךָle/KHAunto youכִּי־זֶהki-zebecause thisיָמִיםya/MIMtimeרַבִּיםrab/BIMlongזְעַקְתֶּםze/ak/TEMyou criedאֵלָי׃e/LAYunto me

    And there will I bless thee and thy seed, and raise up unto me of thy seed, and of the seed of thy brother, and they who shall go with thee, a great nation. And there shall be none greater than the nation which I will raise up unto me of thy seed, upon all the face of the earth. And thus I will do unto thee because this long time ye have cried unto me.
