   Behold, it came to pass that I, Enos, knowing my father that he was a just man—for he taught me in his language, and also in the nurture and admonition of the Lord—and blessed be the name of my God for it—

   וְאַגִּידve/ag/GIDand I will tellלָכֶםla/KHEMyouאֶת־הַמַּאֲבָקet-ham/ma/a/VAKthe wrestleאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichנֶאֱבַקְתִּיne/e/vak/TII wrestledלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodטֶרֶםTE/rembeforeנִסְלְחוּnis/le/CHUare forgivenחַטֹּאתָי׃chat/to/TAYmy sins

   And I will tell you of the wrestle which I had before God, before I received a remission of my sins.

   Behold, I went to hunt beasts in the forests; and the words which I had often heard my father speak concerning eternal life, and the joy of the saints, sunk deep into my heart.

   And my soul hungered; and I kneeled down before my Maker, and I cried unto him in mighty prayer and supplication for mine own soul; and all the day long did I cry unto him; yea, and when the night came I did still raise my voice high that it reached the heavens.

   And there came a voice unto me, saying: Enos, thy sins are forgiven thee, and thou shalt be blessed.

   וַאֲנִיva/a/NIand IאֱנוֹשׁE/NOSHEnosיָדַעְתִּיya/DA/tiknewכִּי־לֹאki-lothat notיְכַזֵּבye/khaz/ZEVshall lieאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodעַל־כֵּןal-kenwhereforeנִמְחֲתָהnim/cha/TAwas swept awayאַשְׁמָתִי׃ash/ma/TImy guilt

   And I, Enos, knew that God could not lie; wherefore, my guilt was swept away.

   וָאֹמַרva/o/MARand I saidאֲדֹנָיA/do/NAYAdonaiאֵיךְekhhowנַעֲשָׂהna/a/SAis it doneהַדָּבָרhad/da/VARthe thingהַזֶּה׃haz/ZEthis

   And I said: Lord, how is it done?

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand he saidאֵלַיe/LAYunto meבַּעֲבוּרba/a/VURbecause ofאֱמוּנָתְךָe/mu/na/te/KHAyour faithבַּמָּשִׁיחַbam/Ma/SHI/achin Christאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhomלֹא־שָׁמַעְתָּlo-sha/MA/tayou have not heardוְלֹא־רָאִיתָve/LO-ra/I/tanor have you seenמֵעוֹלָםme/o/LAMever beforeוְשָׁנִיםve/sha/NIMand yearsרַבּוֹתrab/BOTmanyתַּעֲבֹרְנָהta/a/VOR/nathey shall pass awayבְּטֶרֶםbe/TE/rembeforeיֵרָאֶהye/ra/Ehe shall be manifestedבַבָּשָׂרvab/ba/SARin the fleshלָכֵןla/KHENwhereforeלֵךְ־לְךָlekh-le/KHAgo toאֱמוּנָתְךָe/mu/na/te/KHAyour faithהוֹשִׁיעָהho/SHI/amade wholeלָךְ׃lakhyou

   And he said unto me: Because of thy faith in Christ, whom thou hast never before heard nor seen. And many years pass away before he shall manifest himself in the flesh; wherefore, go to, thy faith hath made thee whole.

   וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERthat whenשָׁמַעְתִּיsha/MA/tiI heardאֶת־הַדְּבָרִיםet-had/de/va/RIMthe wordsהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseוָאָחֵלva/a/CHELand I beganלָחוּשׁla/CHUSHto feelמִשְׁאָלָהmish/A/laa desireלִשְׁלוֹםlish/LOMfor the welfareאַחַיa/CHAYof my brethrenהַנֶּפִיִּיםhan/Ne/fiy/YIMthe Nephitesעַל־כֵּןal-kenwhereforeשָׁפַכְתִּיsha/FAKH/tihave I poured outאֶת־כׇּל־נַפְשִׁיet-kol-naf/SHIall my soulלֵאלֹהִיםle/lo/HIMunto Godבַּעֲדָם׃ba/a/DAMfor them

   Now, it came to pass that when I had heard these words I began to feel a desire for the welfare of my brethren, the Nephites; wherefore, I did pour out my whole soul unto God for them.

    And while I was thus struggling in the spirit, behold, the voice of the Lord came into my mind again, saying: I will visit thy brethren according to their diligence in keeping my commandments. I have given unto them this land, and it is a holy land; and I curse it not save it be for the cause of iniquity; wherefore, I will visit thy brethren according as I have said; and their transgressions will I bring down with sorrow upon their own heads.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterשׇׁמְעִיshom/Iheardאֲנִיa/NIIאֱנוֹשׁE/NOSHEnosאֶת־הַדְּבָרִיםet-had/de/va/RIMthe wordsהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseוַתָּחֶלvat/TA/cheland beganאֱמוּנָתִיe/mu/na/TImy faithלְהִתְחַזֵּקle/hit/chaz/ZEKto be strongבַּיהוָהba-Adonaiin Adonaiוָאֶתְפַּלֵּלva/et/pal/LELand I prayedאֵלָיוe/LAYVunto himבְּמַאֲבָקִיםbe/ma/a/va/KIMwith strugglingsרַבִּיםrab/BIMmanyוַאֲרֻכִּיםva/a/ruk/KIMand longבְּעַדbe/ADforאַחַיa/CHAYmy brethrenהַלָּמָנִים׃hal/La/ma/NIMthe Lamanites

    And after I, Enos, had heard these words, my faith began to be unshaken in the Lord; and I prayed unto him with many long strugglings for my brethren, the Lamanites.

12. 12

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterהִתְפַּלַּלְתִּיhit/pal/lal/TII prayedוְעָמַלְתִּיve/a/mal/TIand laboredבְּכׇל־חֲרִיצוּתִיbe/KHOL-cha/ri/tsu/TIwith all my diligenceוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/mersaidאֵלַיe/LAYunto meיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiאֶתֵּן־לְךָet/TEN-le/KHAI shall give youכְּפִיke/FIaccording toמִשְׁאֲלוֹתֶיךָmish/a/lo/TE/khayour desiresבַּעֲבוּרba/a/VURbecause ofאֱמוּנָתֶךָ׃e/mu/na/TE/khayour faith

    And it came to pass that after I had prayed and labored with all diligence, the Lord said unto me: I will grant unto thee according to thy desires, because of thy faith.

    And now behold, this was the desire which I desired of him—that if it should so be, that my people, the Nephites, should fall into transgression, and by any means be destroyed, and the Lamanites should not be destroyed, that the Lord God would preserve a record of my people, the Nephites; even if it so be by the power of his holy arm, that it might be brought forth at some future day unto the Lamanites, that, perhaps, they might be brought unto salvation—

    כִּיkiforבָּעֵתba/ETat the timeהַזֹּאתhaz/ZOTthisהָיוּha/YUwereמַאֲבָקֵינוּma/a/va/ke/NUour strugglingsלַהֲשִׁיבָםla/ha/shi/VAMto restore themאֶל־אֱמוּנַתel-e/mu/NATunto the faithאֱמֶתe/METof truthלַשָּׁוְאlash/SHAVvainוַיִּשָּׁבְעוּvay/yish/sha/ve/Uand they sworeבַחֲמָתָםva/cha/ma/TAMin their wrathכִּי־אִםki-imthat ifיוּכְלוּyukh/LUthey couldיַשְׁמִידוּyash/MI/duthey would destroyאֶת־סְפָרֵינוּet-se/fa/re/NUour recordsוְאוֹתָנוּve/o/TA/nuand usוְגַםve/GAMand alsoאֶת־כׇּל־מָסֹרֶתet-kol-ma/SO/retall the traditionsאֲבוֹתֵינוּ׃a/vo/TE/nuof our fathers

    For at the present our strugglings were vain in restoring them to the true faith. And they swore in their wrath that, if it were possible, they would destroy our records and us, and also all the traditions of our fathers.

    לָכֵןla/KHENwhereforeבְּדַעְתִּיbe/da/TIknowingכִּי־יְהוָהki-Adonaithat Adonaiאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodיָכֹלya/KHOLwas ableלִשְׁמֹרlish/MORto preserveאֶת־סְפָרֵינוּet-se/fa/re/NUour recordsזָעַקְתִּיza/AK/tiI criedאֵלָיוe/LAYVunto himתָּמִידta/MIDcontinuallyכִּיkiforאָמַרa/MARhe saidאֵלַיe/LAYunto meכׇּל־דָּבָרkol-da/VARany thingאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatתִּשְׁאַלtish/ALyou shall askבֶּאֱמוּנָהbe/e/mu/NAin faithבְּהַאֲמִינְךָbe/ha/a/mi/ne/KHAbelievingכִּיkithatתְּקַבֵּלte/kab/BELyou shall receiveבְּשֵׁםbe/SHEMin the nameהַמָּשִׁיחַham/Ma/SHI/achof Christתְּקַבֵּל׃te/kab/BELyou shall receive

    Wherefore, I knowing that the Lord God was able to preserve our records, I cried unto him continually, for he had said unto me: Whatsoever thing ye shall ask in faith, believing that ye shall receive in the name of Christ, ye shall receive it.

16. 16

    וַתְּהִי־לִיvat/te/HI-liand I hadאֱמוּנָהe/mu/NAfaithוָאֶזְעַקva/ez/AKand I criedאֶל־אֱלֹהִיםel-e/lo/HIMunto Godכִּיkithatיִשְׁמֹרyish/MORhe would preserveאֶת־הַסְּפָרִיםet-has/se/fa/RIMthe recordsוַיִּכְרֹתvay/yikh/ROTand he cutעִמִּיim/MIwith meבְּרִיתbe/RITa covenantכִּיkithatיוֹצִיאֵםyo/tsi/EMhe would bring them forthאֶל־הַלָּמָנִיםel-Hal/la/ma/NIMunto the Lamanitesבְּעִתּוֹ׃be/it/TOin his own time

    And I had faith, and I did cry unto God that he would preserve the records; and he covenanted with me that he would bring them forth unto the Lamanites in his own due time.

17. 17

    וַאֲנִיva/a/NIand IאֱנוֹשׁE/NOSHEnosיָדַעְתִּיya/DA/tiknewכִּיkithatיִהְיֶהyih/YEit shall beכַּבְּרִיתkab/be/RITaccording to the covenantאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichכָּרַתka/RAThe madeעַל־כֵּןal-kenwhereforeנָחָהNA/charestedנַפְשִׁי׃naf/SHImy soul

    And I, Enos, knew it would be according to the covenant which he had made; wherefore my soul did rest.

18. 18

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֵלַיe/LAYunto meיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiגַּם־אֲבוֹתֶיךָgam-a/vo/TE/khaalso your fathersבִּקְשׁוּbik/SHUsoughtמִמֶּנִּיmim/MEN/niof meאֶת־הַדָּבָרet-had/da/VARthe thingהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisוְיֵעָשֶׂהve/ye/a/SEand it shall be doneלָהֶםla/HEMunto themכְּפִיke/FIaccording toאֱמוּנָתָםe/mu/na/TAMtheir faithכִּי־הָיְתָהki-ha/ye/TAfor wasאֱמוּנָתָםe/mu/na/TAMtheir faithכֶּאֱמוּנָתֶךָ׃ke/e/mu/na/te/KHAlike unto your faith

    And the Lord said unto me: Thy fathers have also required of me this thing; and it shall be done unto them according to their faith; for their faith was like unto thine.

    And now it came to pass that I, Enos, went about among the people of Nephi, prophesying of things to come, and testifying of the things which I had heard and seen.

    And I bear record that the people of Nephi did seek diligently to restore the Lamanites unto the true faith in God. But our labors were vain; their hatred was fixed, and they were led by their evil nature that they became wild, and ferocious, and a blood-thirsty people, full of idolatry and filthiness; feeding upon beasts of prey; dwelling in tents, and wandering about in the wilderness with a short skin girdle about their loins and their heads shaven; and their skill was in the bow, and in the cimeter, and the ax. And many of them did eat nothing save it was raw meat; and they were continually seeking to destroy us.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּיkithatעַם־נֶפִיam-NE/fithe people of Nephiעָבְדוּa/ve/DUtilledאֶת־הָאֲדָמָהet-ha/a/da/MAthe landוַיְגַדְּלוּvay/gad/de/LUand raisedכׇל־מִינֵיkhol-mi/NEall mannerדָגָןda/GANof grainוּפְרִיu/fe/RIand fruitוְעֶדְרֵיve/ed/REand flocksבְהֵמוֹתve/he/MOTof herdsוְעֶדְרֵיve/ed/REand flocksכׇל־מִינֵיkhol-mi/NEof all mannerמִקְנֶהmik/NEof cattleוְעִזִּיםve/iz/ZIMand goatsוְעִזֵּיve/iz/ZEand goatsבָרvarof wildוְגַםve/GAMand alsoסוּסִיםsu/SIMhorsesרַבִּים׃rab/BIMmany

    And it came to pass that the people of Nephi did till the land, and raise all manner of grain, and of fruit, and flocks of herds, and flocks of all manner of cattle of every kind, and goats, and wild goats, and also many horses.

    וַיִּהְיוּvay/yih/YUand there wereנְבִיאִיםne/vi/IMprophetsרַבִּיםrab/BIMmanyמְאֹדme/ODexceedinglyבְּקִרְבֵּנוּbe/kir/BE/nuamong usוְהָיוּve/ha/YUand wereהָעָםha/AMthe peopleעַם־קְשֵׁה־עֹרֶףam-ke/SHE-O/refa people stiff of neckקָשִׁיםka/SHIMhardלְהָבִין׃le/ha/VINto understand

    And there were exceedingly many prophets among us. And the people were a stiffnecked people, hard to understand.

    וְלֹא־הָיָהve/LO-HA/yaand there was notדָבָרda/VARany thingזוּלַתzu/LATsave it wereתּוֹכֵחָהto/khe/CHAharshnessחֲזָקָהcha/za/KAexceedingוּקְרִיאָהu/ke/ri/Aand preachingוּנְבוּאָהu/ne/vu/Aand prophesyingעַל־מִלְחָמוֹתal-mil/cha/MOTof warsוּמְרִיבוֹתu/me/ri/VOTand contentionsוַהֲרִיסוֹתva/ha/ri/SOTand destructionsוְהַזְכִּירָםve/haz/ki/RAMand reminding themתָּמִידta/MIDcontinuallyאֶת־הַמָּוֶתet-ham/MA/vetof deathוְאֶת־הַנֶּצַחve/ET-han/NE/tsachand of eternityוּמִשְׁפְּטֵי־אֵלu/mish/pe/TE-eland the judgments of Godוּגְבוּרָתוֹu/ge/vu/ra/TOand his powerוְכׇל־הַדְּבָרִיםve/KHOL-had/de/va/RIMand all the thingsהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseמְעוֹרְרִיםme/or/RIMstirring upאוֹתָםo/TAMthemתָּמִידta/MIDcontinuallyלְהַחֲזִיקָםle/ha/cha/zi/KAMto keep themבְּיִרְאַתbe/yir/ATin the fearיְהוָהAdonaiof Adonaiאֹמֵרo/MERsayאֲנִיa/NIIכִּי־לֹאki-lothat notהָיָהha/YAthere wasדָבָרda/VARthingמִלְּבַדmil/le/VADbesidesאֵלֶּהEL/letheseוְשָׂפָהve/sa/FAand speechבְרוּרָהve/ru/RAplainמְאֹדme/ODexceedinglyאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatיִמְנָעֵםyim/na/EMcould keep themמִלָּרֶדֶתmil/la/RE/detfrom going downמְהֵרָהme/he/RAspeedilyלַשַּׁחַתlash/SHA/chatto destructionוְכָכָהve/KHA/khaand after this mannerאֲנִיa/NIIכּוֹתֵבko/TEVwriteעֲלֵיהֶם׃a/le/HEMconcerning them

    And there was nothing save it was exceeding harshness, preaching and prophesying of wars, and contentions, and destructions, and continually reminding them of death, and the duration of eternity, and the judgments and the power of God, and all these things—stirring them up continually to keep them in the fear of the Lord. I say there was nothing short of these things, and exceedingly great plainness of speech, would keep them from going down speedily to destruction. And after this manner do I write concerning them.

    וָאֶרְאֶהva/er/Eand I sawמִלְחָמוֹתmil/cha/MOTwarsבֵּיןbenbetweenהַנֶּפִיִּיםhan/Ne/fiy/YIMthe Nephitesוְהַלָּמָנִיםve/hal/La/ma/NIMand the Lamanitesבִּימֵיbi/MEin the daysחַיָּי׃chay/YAYof my life

    And I saw wars between the Nephites and Lamanites in the course of my days.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּיkithatהַחִלֹּתִיha/chil/LO/tiI beganלִזְקֹןliz/KONto be oldוַיַּעַבְרוּvay/ya/av/RUand passedמֵאָהme/Aa hundredוְשִׁבְעִיםve/shiv/IMand seventyוָתֵשַׁעva/TE/shaand nineשָׁנִיםsha/NIMyearsמֵעֵתme/ETfrom the timeאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatיָצָאya/TSAwent forthלֶחִיLE/chiLehiאָבִינוּa/VI/nuour fatherמִירוּשָׁלָיִם׃mI/ru/sha/LA/yimfrom Jerusalem

    And it came to pass that I began to be old, and an hundred and seventy and nine years had passed away from the time that our father Lehi left Jerusalem.

26. 26

    וָאֵרֶאva/E/reand I sawכִּיkithatקָרוֹבka/ROVsoonאֲנִיa/NIIלָרֶדֶתla/RE/detmust go downאֶל־קִבְרִיel-kiv/RIto my graveכִּיkithatפָּעֲלָהpa/a/LAwroughtבִיviin meגְבוּרַתge/vu/RATthe powerאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMof Godלְהַטִּיףle/hat/TIFto preachוּלְהִתְנַבֵּאu/le/hit/nab/BEand to prophesyלָעָםla/AMunto the peopleהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisוּלְהַגִּידu/le/hag/GIDand to declareאֶת־הַדָּבָרet-had/da/VARthe wordכְּפִיke/FIaccording toהָאֱמֶתha/e/METthe truthאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhich isבַּמָּשִׁיחַbam/Ma/SHI/achin Christוְהִגַּדְתִּיve/hig/GAD/tiand I declaredאוֹתוֹo/TOitכׇּל־יָמַיkol-ya/MAYin all my daysוְשַׂשְׂתִּיve/sas/TIand rejoicedבוֹvoin itיוֹתֵרyo/TERmoreמֵחֶדְוַתme/ched/VATthan the joyהָעוֹלָם׃ha/o/LAMof the world

    And I saw that I must soon go down to my grave, having been wrought upon by the power of God that I must preach and prophesy unto this people, and declare the word according to the truth which is in Christ. And I have declared it in all my days, and have rejoiced in it above that of the world.

27. 27

    וּמְהֵרָהu/me/he/RAand soonאֵלֵךְe/LEKHI shall goאֶל־מְקוֹםel-me/KOMto the placeמְנוּחָתִיme/nu/cha/TIof my restאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhich isעִם־גּוֹאֲלִיim-Go/a/LIwith my Redeemerכִּיkiforיָדַעְתִּיya/DA/tiI knowכִּי־בוֹki-vothat in himאָנוּחַa/NU/achI shall restוְאֶשְׂמַחve/es/MACHand I shall rejoiceבַּיּוֹםbay/YOMin the dayאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhenיִלְבַּשׁyil/BASHshall put onבְּשַׂר־תְּמוּתָתִיbe/SAR-te/mu/ta/TImy mortal fleshאַל־מָוֶתal-MA/vetimmortalityוְאֶעֱמֹדve/e/e/MODand I shall standלְפָנָיוle/fa/NAYVbefore himאָזazthenאֶרְאֶהer/EI shall seeפָנָיוfa/NAYVhis faceבְּשִׂמְחָהbe/sim/CHAwith pleasureוְהוּאve/HUand heיֹאמַרyo/MARwill sayאֵלַיe/LAYunto meבֹּאוּBO/ucomeאֵלַיe/LAYunto meבְּרוּכִיםbe/ru/KHIMblessedיֵשׁyeshthere isמָקוֹםma/KOMa placeמוּכָןmu/KHANpreparedלָכֶםla/KHEMfor youבְּמִשְׁכְּנוֹתbe/mish/ke/NOTin the mansionsאָבִיA/VIof my Fatherאָמֵן׃a/MENAmen

    And I soon go to the place of my rest, which is with my Redeemer; for I know that in him I shall rest. And I rejoice in the day when my mortal shall put on immortality, and shall stand before him; then shall I see his face with pleasure, and he will say unto me: Come unto me, ye blessed, there is a place prepared for you in the mansions of my Father. Amen.
