   Now it came to pass that when those Lamanites who had gone to war against the Nephites had found, after their many struggles to destroy them, that it was in vain to seek their destruction, they returned again to the land of Nephi.

   And it came to pass that the Amalekites, because of their loss, were exceedingly angry. And when they saw that they could not seek revenge from the Nephites, they began to stir up the people in anger against their brethren, the people of Anti-Nephi-Lehi; therefore they began again to destroy them.

   Now this people again refused to take their arms, and they suffered themselves to be slain according to the desires of their enemies.

   Now when Ammon and his brethren saw this work of destruction among those whom they so dearly beloved, and among those who had so dearly beloved them—for they were treated as though they were angels sent from God to save them from everlasting destruction—therefore, when Ammon and his brethren saw this great work of destruction, they were moved with compassion, and they said unto the king:

   נְקַבְּצָהne/kab/be/TSAlet us gather togetherנָּאnaI prayאֶת־עַםet-amthe peopleיְהוָהAdonaiof Adonaiהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisוְנֵרְדָהve/ner/DAand let us go downאֶל־אֶרֶץel-E/retsto the landזָרַהֶמְלָהZa/ra/HEM/laof Zarahemlaאֶל־אַחֵינוּel-a/CHE/nuto our brethrenהַנֶּפִיִּיםhan/Ne/fiy/YIMthe Nephitesוְנִמָּלְטָהve/nim/ma/le/TAand fleeמִיַּדmiy/YADout of the handsאֹיְבֵינוּoy/VE/nuof our enemiesפֶּןpenlestנִשָּׁמֵד׃nish/sha/MEDwe be destroyed

   Let us gather together this people of the Lord, and let us go down to the land of Zarahemla to our brethren the Nephites, and flee out of the hands of our enemies, that we be not destroyed.

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidלָהֶםla/HEMunto themהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdיַשְׁמִידוּנוּyash/mi/du/NUwill destroy usהַנֶּפִיִּיםhan/Ne/fiy/YIMthe Nephitesבַּעֲבוּרba/a/VURbecause ofהַדָּמִיםhad/da/MIMthe murdersוְהַחֲטָאִיםve/ha/cha/ta/IMand sinsהָרַבִּיםha/rab/BIMmanyאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichחָטָאנוּcha/TA/nuwe committedלָהֶם׃la/HEMagainst them

   But the king said unto them: Behold, the Nephites will destroy us, because of the many murders and sins we have committed against them.

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidעַמּוֹןAm/MONAmmonאֵלְכָהel/KHAI will goנָּאnaI prayוְאֶדְרְשָׁהve/ed/re/SHAand inquireבַּיהוָהba-Adonaiof Adonaiוְאִם־יֹאמַרve/IM-yo/MARand if he sayאֵלֵינוּe/LE/nuunto usרְדוּre/DUgo downאֶלeluntoאַחֵינוּa/CHE/nuour brethrenהֲתֵלְכוּ׃ha/tel/KHUwill you go

   And Ammon said: I will go and inquire of the Lord, and if he say unto us, go down unto our brethren, will ye go?

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingאֵלָיוe/LAYVunto himכֵּןkenyeaאִם־יֹאמַרim-yo/MARif shall sayיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiאֵלֵינוּe/LE/nuunto usלְכוּle/KHUgoוְנֵרְדָהve/ner/DAwe will go downאֶל־אַחֵינוּel-a/CHE/nuunto our brethrenוְהָיִינוּve/ha/YI/nuand we will beלָהֶםla/HEMunto themלַעֲבָדִיםla/a/va/DIMslavesעַד־אֲשֶׁרad-a/SHERuntilנְכַפֵּרne/khap/PERwe atoneלָהֶםla/HEMunto themעַלalforהַדָּמִיםhad/da/MIMthe murdersוְהַחֲטָאִיםve/ha/cha/ta/IMand sinsהָרַבִּיםha/rab/BIMmanyאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichחָטָאנוּcha/TA/nuwe committedלָהֶם׃la/HEMagainst them

   And the king said unto him: Yea, if the Lord saith unto us go, we will go down unto our brethren, and we will be their slaves until we repair unto them the many murders and sins which we have committed against them.

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merbut saidעַמּוֹןAm/MONAmmonאֵלָיוe/LAYVunto himנֶגֶדNE/gedagainstחֹקchokthe lawאַחֵינוּa/CHE/nuof our brethrenהוּאhuit isאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichשָׂםsamestablishedאָבִיa/VImy fatherלְבִלְתִּיle/vil/TIthat there should notהֱיוֹתhe/YOTbeלָהֶםla/HEMunto themעֲבָדִיםa/va/DIMslavesלָכֵןla/KHENthereforeנֵרְדָהner/DAlet us go downנָּאnaI prayוְנִבְטַחve/niv/TACHand relyבְּחַסְדֵיbe/chas/DEupon the merciesאַחֵינוּ׃a/CHE/nuof our brethren

   But Ammon said unto him: It is against the law of our brethren, which was established by my father, that there should be any slaves among them; therefore let us go down and rely upon the mercies of our brethren.

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merbut saidהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingאֵלָיוe/LAYVunto himדְּרֹשׁde/ROSHinquireנָאnaI prayבַּיהוָהba-Adonaiof Adonaiוְאִם־יֹאמַרve/IM-yo/MARand if he shall sayאֵלֵינוּe/LE/nuunto usלְכוּle/KHUgoוְנֵלֵכָהve/ne/LE/khawe will goוְאִם־לֹאve/IM-lootherwiseנֹאבַדno/VADwe will perishבָּאָרֶץ׃ba/A/retsin the land

    But the king said unto him: Inquire of the Lord, and if he saith unto us go, we will go; otherwise we will perish in the land.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּיkithatהָלַךְha/LAKHwentעַמּוֹןAm/MONAmmonוַיִּדְרֹשׁvay/yid/ROSHand inquiredבַּיהוָהba-Adonaiof Adonaiוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiאֵלָיו׃e/LAYVunto him

    And it came to pass that Ammon went and inquired of the Lord, and the Lord said unto him:

12. 12

    הוֹצֵאho/TSEgetאֶת־הָעָםet-ha/AMthe peopleהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisמִן־הָאָרֶץmin-ha/A/retsout of the landהַזֹּאתhaz/ZOTthisפֶּןpenlestיֹאבֵדוּyo/VE/duthey perishכִּיkiforהֶחֱזִיקhe/che/ZIKhas holdהַשָּׂטָןHas/sa/TANSatanבִּלְבַבbil/VAVon the heartsהָעֲמָלֵקִיםha/A/ma/le/KIMof the Amalekitesהַמְּסִיתִיםham/me/si/TIMwho stir upאֶת־הַלָּמָנִיםet-Hal/la/ma/NIMthe Lamanitesלַחֲרוֹתla/cha/ROTto kindleאַףafangerבַּאֲחֵיהֶםba/a/che/HEMagainst their brethrenלְהׇרְגָםle/hor/GAMto slay themלָכֵןla/KHENthereforeצֵאtseget youמִן־הָאָרֶץmin-ha/A/retsout of the landהַזֹּאתhaz/ZOTthisוּבְרוּכִיםu/ve/ru/KHIMand blessed areהָעָם־הַזֶּהha/AM-haz/ZEthis peopleבַּדּוֹרbad/DORin the generationהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisכִּיkiforאֶשְׁמְרֵם׃esh/me/REMI will preserve them

    Get this people out of this land, that they perish not; for Satan has great hold on the hearts of the Amalekites, who do stir up the Lamanites to anger against their brethren to slay them; therefore get thee out of this land; and blessed are this people in this generation, for I will preserve them.

13. 13

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand now it happenedכִּיkithatהָלַךְha/LAKHwentעַמּוֹןAm/MONAmmonוַיַּגֵּדvay/yag/GEDand toldלַמֶּלֶךְlam/ME/lekhthe kingאֶת־כׇּל־דִּבְרֵיet-kol-div/REall the wordsיְהוָהAdonaiof Adonaiאֲשֶׁר־דִּבֶּרa/SHER-dib/BERwhich he saidאֵלָיו׃e/LAYVunto him

    And now it came to pass that Ammon went and told the king all the words which the Lord had said unto him.

    וַיַּקְהִילוּvay/yak/hi/LUand they gathered togetherאֶת־כׇּלet-kolallעַמָּםam/MAMtheir peopleאַףafyeaאֶת־כׇּל־עַםet-kol-amall the peopleיְהוָהAdonaiof Adonaiוַיַּאַסְפוּvay/ya/as/FUand gathered togetherאֶת־כׇּלet-kolallצֹאנָםtso/NAMtheir flocksוּבְקָרָםu/ve/ka/RAMand herdsוַיֵּצְאוּvay/yets/Uand departedמִן־הָאָרֶץmin-ha/A/retsout of the landוַיָּבֹאוּvay/ya/VO/uand cameאֶל־הַמִּדְבָּרel-ham/mid/BARinto the wildernessהַמַּבְדִּילham/mav/DILwhich dividedבֵּיןbenbetweenאֶרֶץE/retsthe landנֶפִיNE/fiof Nephiוּבֵיןu/VENand betweenאֶרֶץE/retsthe landזָרַהֶמְלָהZa/ra/HEM/laof Zarahemlaוַיָּבֹאוּvay/ya/VO/uand came overעַד־גְּבוּלad-ge/VULunto the borderהָאָרֶץ׃ha/A/retsof the land

    And they gathered together all their people, yea, all the people of the Lord, and did gather together all their flocks and herds, and departed out of the land, and came into the wilderness which divided the land of Nephi from the land of Zarahemla, and came over near the borders of the land.

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidעַמּוֹןAm/MONAmmonאֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMunto themהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdאֲנִיa/NIIוְאַחַיve/a/CHAYand my brethrenנֵלְכָהnel/KHAwill goאֶל־אֶרֶץel-E/retsinto the landזָרַהֶמְלָהZa/ra/HEM/laof Zarahemlaוְאַתֶּםve/at/TEMand youשְׁבוּshe/VUshall remainפֹהfohereעַדaduntilשׁוּבֵנוּshu/ve/NUwe returnוּנְנַסֶּהu/ne/nas/SEand we will tryאֶת־לְבַבet-le/VAVthe heartsאַחֵינוּa/CHE/nuof our brethrenהֲיִרְצוּha/yir/TSUwhether they willכִּיkithatתָבֹאוּta/VO/uyou shall comeאֶל־אַרְצָם׃el-ar/TSAMinto their land

    And it came to pass that Ammon said unto them: Behold, I and my brethren will go forth into the land of Zarahemla, and ye shall remain here until we return; and we will try the hearts of our brethren, whether they will that ye shall come into their land.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedבְּלֶכֶתbe/LE/khetas was going forthעַמּוֹןAm/MONAmmonאֶל־הָאָרֶץel-ha/A/retsinto the landוַיִּפְגְּשׁוּvay/yif/ge/SHUthat they metהוּאhuheוְאֶחָיוve/e/CHAYVand his brethrenבְּאַלְמָאBe/AL/maAlmaבַּמָּקוֹםbam/ma/KOMin the placeאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichדֻּבַּרdub/BARwas spokenבּוֹboofוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdשָׂמְחוּsa/me/CHUthey rejoicedבְּפׇגְשָׁם׃be/fog/SHAMwhen they met

    And it came to pass that as Ammon was going forth into the land, that he and his brethren met Alma, over in the place of which has been spoken; and behold, this was a joyful meeting.

    וַתִּגְדַּלvat/tig/DALnow was greatשִׂמְחַתsim/CHATthe joyעַמּוֹןAm/MONof Ammonעַד־מְאֹדad-me/ODsoעַד־כִּיad-kieven thatמָלְאָהma/le/Awas fullנַפְשׁוֹnaf/SHOhis soulאַףafyeaנִבְלַעniv/LAhe was swallowed upבְּשִׂמְחַתbe/sim/CHATin the joyאֱלֹהָיוe/lo/HAYVof his Godעַד־כְּלוֹתad-ke/LOTeven to the exhaustingכֹּחוֹko/CHOof his strengthוַיִּפֹּלvay/yip/POLand he fellשֵׁנִיתshe/NITagainאָרְצָה׃AR/tsato the earth

    Now the joy of Ammon was so great even that he was full; yea, he was swallowed up in the joy of his God, even to the exhausting of his strength; and he fell again to the earth.

    הֲלֹאha/LOnow was notשִׂמְחָהsim/CHAjoyגְדוֹלָהge/do/LAexceedingהִיאhiitזֹאתzotthisהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdזוֹzothis isהַשִּׂמְחָהhas/sim/CHAthe joyאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichלֹאlonotיִקָּחֶנָּהyik/ka/CHEN/nareceives itאִישׁishany manכִּי־אִםki-imsave it beהַשָּׁבhash/SHAVthe penitentבֶּאֱמֶתbe/e/METtrulyוּשְׁפַלu/she/FALand humbleרוּחַRU/achof spiritהַמְבַקֵּשׁham/vak/KESHwho seeksאֹשֶׁר׃O/sherhappiness

    Now was not this exceeding joy? Behold, this is joy which none receiveth save it be the truly penitent and humble seeker of happiness.

    וַתְּהִיvat/te/HInow wasשִׂמְחַתsim/CHATthe joyאַלְמָאAL/maof Almaבִּפְגֹּשׁbif/GOSHin meetingאֶת־אֶחָיוet-e/CHAYVhis brethrenגְּדוֹלָהge/do/LAgreatמְאֹדme/ODtrulyוְגַםve/GAMand alsoשִׂמְחַתsim/CHATthe joyאַהֲרֹןA/ha/RONof Aaronוְעׇמְנֵרve/Om/NERand Omnerוְהִמְנִיve/HIM/niand Himniאַךְakhbutהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdלֹאlonotגָדְלָהga/de/LAwas greatשִׂמְחָתָםsim/cha/TAMtheir joyעַד־כְּלוֹתad-ke/LOTunto the exhaustingכֹּחָם׃ko/CHAMof their strength

    Now the joy of Alma in meeting his brethren was truly great, and also the joy of Aaron, of Omner, and Himni; but behold their joy was not that to exceed their strength.

    And now it came to pass that Alma conducted his brethren back to the land of Zarahemla; even to his own house. And they went and told the chief judge all the things that had happened unto them in the land of Nephi, among their brethren, the Lamanites.

    וַיִּשְׁלַחvay/yish/LACHand sentהַשֹּׁפֵטhash/sho/FETthe judgeהָרֹאשׁha/ROSHthe chiefקוֹלkola proclamationבְּכׇל־הָאָרֶץbe/KHOL-ha/A/retsthroughout all the landלְבַקֵּשׁle/vak/KESHdesiringאֶת־קוֹלet-kolthe voiceהָעָםha/AMof the peopleעַלalconcerningאֹדוֹתo/DOTthe matterאֱסֹףe/SOFof the admittingאֲחֵיהֶםa/che/HEMof their brethrenעַםamthe peopleאַנְטִי־נֶפִי־לֶחִי׃AN/ti-NE/fi-LE/chiof Anti-Nephi-Lehi

    And it came to pass that the chief judge sent a proclamation throughout all the land, desiring the voice of the people concerning the admitting their brethren, who were the people of Anti-Nephi-Lehi.

    And it came to pass that the voice of the people came, saying: Behold, we will give up the land of Jershon, which is on the east by the sea, which joins the land Bountiful, which is on the south of the land Bountiful; and this land Jershon is the land which we will give unto our brethren for an inheritance.

    וְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdנָשִׂיםna/SIMwe will setאֶת־צִבְאוֹתֵינוּet-tsiv/o/te/NUour armiesבֵּיןbenbetweenאֶרֶץE/retsthe landיֶרְשׁוֹןYER/shonof Jershonוּבֵיןu/VENand betweenאֶרֶץE/retsthe landנֶפִיNE/fiof Nephiלְמַעַןle/MA/anthatנָגֵןna/GENwe may protectעַל־אַחֵינוּal-a/CHE/nuour brethrenבְּאֶרֶץbe/E/retsin the landיֶרְשׁוֹןYER/shonof Jershonוְזֹאתve/ZOTand thisנַעֲשֶׂהna/a/SEwe doלַאֲחֵינוּla/a/che/NUfor our brethrenבַּעֲבוּרba/a/VURon account ofיִרְאָתָםyir/a/TAMtheir fearלָשֵׂאתla/SETto take upכְּלֵיke/LEarmsמִלְחָמָהmil/cha/MAof warנֶגֶדNE/gedagainstאֲחֵיהֶםa/che/HEMtheir brethrenפֶּןpenlestיֶחֶטְאוּye/chet/Uthey should commit sinוַתְּהִיvat/te/HIand cameיִרְאָתָםyir/a/TAMtheir fearהַגְּדוֹלָהhag/ge/do/LAgreatהַזֹּאתhaz/ZOTthisבַּעֲבוּרba/a/VURbecause ofתְּשׁוּבָתָםte/shu/va/TAMtheir repentanceהַמָּרָהham/ma/RAsoreעַל־דְּמֵיהֶםal-de/me/HEMon account of their murdersהָרַבִּיםha/rab/BIMmanyוְרִשְׁעָתָםve/rish/a/TAMand their wickednessהַנּוֹרָאָה׃han/no/ra/Aawful

    And behold, we will set our armies between the land Jershon and the land Nephi, that we may protect our brethren in the land Jershon; and this we do for our brethren, on account of their fear to take up arms against their brethren lest they should commit sin; and this their great fear came because of their sore repentance which they had, on account of their many murders and their awful wickedness.

    וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdזֹאתzotthisנַעֲשֶׂהna/a/SEwill we doלַאֲחֵינוּla/a/che/NUunto our brethrenלְמַעַןle/MA/anthatיִירְשׁוּYI/re/shuthey may inheritאֶת־אֶרֶץet-E/retsthe landיֶרְשׁוֹןYER/shonof Jershonוְנִשְׁמְרֵםve/nish/me/REMand we will guard themמִיַּדmiy/YADfromאֹיְבֵיהֶםoy/ve/HEMtheir enemiesבְּצִבְאוֹתֵינוּbe/tsiv/o/TE/nuwith our armiesאַךְakhonlyיִתְּנוּ־לָנוּyit/te/NU-LA/nuthey will give usמֵהוֹנָםme/ho/NAMof their substanceלְעׇזְרֵנוּle/oz/RE/nuto assist usלְקַיֵּםle/kay/YEMto maintainאֶת־צִבְאוֹתֵינוּ׃et-tsiv/o/te/NUour armies

    And now behold, this will we do unto our brethren, that they may inherit the land Jershon; and we will guard them from their enemies with our armies, on condition that they will give us a portion of their substance to assist us that we may maintain our armies.

25. 25

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּשְׁמֹעַkish/MO/awhen heardעַמּוֹןAm/MONAmmonאֶת־הַדְּבָרִיםet-had/de/va/RIMthe thingsהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseוַיָּשׇׁבvay/YA/shovhe returnedאֶל־עַםel-amto the peopleאַנְטִי־נֶפִי־לֶחִיAN/ti-NE/fi-LE/chiof Anti-Nephi-Lehiוְגַםve/GAMand alsoאַלְמָאAL/maAlmaעִמּוֹim/MOwith himאֶל־הַמִּדְבָּרel-ham/mid/BARinto the wildernessאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhereנָטוּna/TUthey pitchedשָׁםshamthereאֶת־אׇהֳלֵיהֶםet-o/ho/le/HEMtheir tentsוַיּוֹדִיעוּvay/yo/di/Uand made knownלָהֶםla/HEMunto themאֶת־כׇּל־הַדְּבָרִיםet-kol-had/de/va/RIMall the thingsהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseוַיְסַפֵּרvay/sap/PERand relatedלָהֶםla/HEMunto themאַלְמָאAL/maAlmaגַּםgamalsoאֶת־תְּשׁוּבָתוֹet-te/shu/va/TOhis conversionעִםimwithעַמּוֹןAm/MONAmmonוְאַהֲרֹןve/A/ha/RONand Aaronוְאֶחָיו׃ve/e/CHAYVand his brethren

    Now, it came to pass that when Ammon had heard this, he returned to the people of Anti-Nephi-Lehi, and also Alma with him, into the wilderness, where they had pitched their tents, and made known unto them all these things. And Alma also related unto them his conversion, with Ammon and Aaron, and his brethren.

    וַתְּהִיvat/te/HIand there wasשִׂמְחָהsim/CHAjoyגְדוֹלָהge/do/LAgreatבְּקִרְבָּםbe/kir/BAMamong themוַיֵּרְדוּvay/yer/DUand they went downאֶל־אֶרֶץel-E/retsinto the landיֶרְשׁוֹןYER/shonof Jershonוַיִּירְשׁוּvay/yi/re/SHUand took possessionאֶת־אֶרֶץet-E/retsof the landיֶרְשׁוֹןYER/shonof Jershonוַיִּקְרְאוּvay/yik/re/Uand calledלָהֶםla/HEMthemהַנֶּפִיִּיםhan/Ne/fiy/YIMthe Nephitesעַםamthe peopleעַמּוֹןAm/MONof Ammonוַיִּוָּדְעוּvay/yiv/va/de/Uand were knownבַשֵּׁםvash/SHEMby the nameהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisמֵאָז׃me/AZever after

    And it came to pass that it did cause great joy among them. And they went down into the land of Jershon, and took possession of the land of Jershon; and they were called by the Nephites the people of Ammon; therefore they were distinguished by that name ever after.

    וַיִּהְיוּvay/yih/YUand they wereבְּתוֹךְbe/TOKHamongעַם־נֶפִיam-NE/fithe people of Nephiוַיִּמָּנוּvay/yim/ma/NUand were numberedגַםgamalsoבְּתוֹךְbe/TOKHamongעֲדַתa/DATthe churchאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMof Godוַיִּוָּדְעוּvay/yiv/va/de/Uand they were distinguishedגַּםgamalsoבְּקִנְאָתָםbe/kin/a/TAMfor their zealלֵאלֹהִיםle/lo/HIMtowards Godוְגַםve/GAMand alsoלִבְנֵי־אָדָםliv/NE-a/DAMtowards menכִּיkiforיְשָׁרִיםye/sha/RIMuprightוּתְמִימִיםu/te/mi/MIMand perfectהָיוּha/YUthey wereבְּכׇל־דָּבָרbe/KHOL-da/VARin all thingsוַיַּחֲזִיקוּvay/ya/cha/ZI/kuand they were firmבֶּאֱמוּנַתbe/e/mu/NATin the faithהַמָּשִׁיחַham/Ma/SHI/achof Christעַדadeven untoקֵץ׃ketsthe end

    And they were among the people of Nephi, and also numbered among the people who were of the church of God. And they were also distinguished for their zeal towards God, and also towards men; for they were perfectly honest and upright in all things; and they were firm in the faith of Christ, even unto the end.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand wasשְׁפֹךְshe/FOKHthe sheddingדְּמֵיde/MEof the bloodאֲחֵיהֶםa/che/HEMof their brethrenבְּעֵינֵיהֶםbe/e/ne/HEMin their eyesלְתוֹעֵבָהle/to/e/VAan abhorrenceגְדוֹלָהge/do/LAgreatestוְלֹאve/LOand neverיָכְלוּya/khe/LUcould anyלְהַסִּיתָםle/has/si/TAMprevail upon themלָשֵׂאתla/SETto take upכְּלֵיke/LEarmsמִלְחָמָהmil/cha/MAof warנֶגֶדNE/gedagainstאֲחֵיהֶםa/che/HEMtheir brethrenוְלֹאve/LOand neverפָחֲדוּfa/cha/DUdid they fearמִן־הַמָּוֶתmin-ham/MA/vetdeathכׇּלkolwith anyפַּחַדPA/chadterrorכִּיkiforתִקְוָתָםtik/va/TAMtheir hopeוּמַבָּטָםu/mab/ba/TAMand their viewsבַּמָּשִׁיחַbam/Ma/SHI/achof Christוּבִתְחִיַּתu/vit/chiy/YATand the resurrectionהַמֵּתִיםham/me/TIMof the deadלָכֵןla/KHENthereforeבֻּלַּעbul/LAwas swallowed upהַמָּוֶתham/MA/vetdeathבְּנֶצַחbe/NE/tsachin the victoryהַמָּשִׁיחַham/Ma/SHI/achof Christעָלָיו׃a/LAYVover it

    And they did look upon shedding the blood of their brethren with the greatest abhorrence; and they never could be prevailed upon to take up arms against their brethren; and they never did look upon death with any degree of terror, for their hope and views of Christ and the resurrection; therefore, death was swallowed up to them by the victory of Christ over it.

29. 29

    לָכֵןla/KHENthereforeהָיוּha/YUthey wereנְכוֹנִיםne/kho/NIMwillingלָמוּתla/MUTto dieבְּיִסּוּרִיםbe/yis/su/RIMin sufferingsמָרִיםma/RIMaggravatingוְקָשִׁיםve/ka/SHIMand distressingמִיַּדmiy/YADat the handsאֲחֵיהֶםa/che/HEMof their brethrenטֶרֶםTE/rembeforeיִשְׂאוּyis/Uthey would takeחֶרֶבCHE/revthe swordאוֹoorכִּידוֹןki/DONcimeterלְהַכּוֹתָם׃le/hak/ko/TAMto smite them

    Therefore, they would suffer death in the most aggravating and distressing manner which could be inflicted by their brethren, before they would take the sword or cimeter to smite them.

30. 30

    וַיִּהְיוּvay/yih/YUand thus they wereעַםama peopleקַנָּאkan/NAzealousוְאָהוּבve/a/HUVand belovedוְעַםve/AMand a peopleאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhomחֶסֶדCHE/sedthe favorיְהוָהAdonaiof Adonaiעֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMwas upon themמְאֹד׃me/ODhighly

    And thus they were a zealous and beloved people, a highly favored people of the Lord.
