   And behold, now it came to pass that those Lamanites were more angry because they had slain their brethren; therefore they swore vengeance upon the Nephites; and they did no more attempt to slay the people of Anti-Nephi-Lehi at that time.

   וַיִּקְחוּvay/yik/CHUbut they tookאֶת־צִבְאוֹתֵיהֶםet-tsiv/o/te/HEMtheir armiesוַיַּעַבְרוּvay/ya/av/RUand went overאֶל־גְּבוּלוֹתel-ge/vu/LOTinto the bordersאֶרֶץE/retsof the landזָרַהֶמְלָהZa/ra/HEM/laof Zarahemlaוַיִּפְּלוּvay/yip/pe/LUand fellעַל־הָעָםal-ha/AMupon the peopleאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwho wereבְּאֶרֶץbe/E/retsin the landעַמּוֹנִיהָהAm/mo/NI/haof Ammonihahוַיַּשְׁמִידוּם׃vay/yash/mi/DUMand destroyed them

   But they took their armies and went over into the borders of the land of Zarahemla, and fell upon the people who were in the land of Ammonihah and destroyed them.

   וְאַחֲרֵי־כֵןve/a/cha/RE-khenand after thatהָיוּha/YUthere wereלָהֶםla/HEMunto themמִלְחָמוֹתmil/cha/MOTbattlesרַבּוֹתrab/BOTmanyעִם־הַנֶּפִיִּיםim-Han/ne/fiy/YIMwith the Nephitesאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichבָּהֶןba/HENin themנִדְּחוּnid/de/CHUthey were drivenוַיֻּכּוּ׃vay/yuk/KUand slain

   And after that, they had many battles with the Nephites, in the which they were driven and slain.

   וּבֵיןu/VENand amongהַלָּמָנִיםhal/La/ma/NIMthe Lamanitesהַנֶּהֱרָגִיםhan/ne/he/ra/GIMwho were slainהָיוּha/YUwereכִּמְעַטkim/ATalmostכׇּל־זֶרַעkol-ZE/raall the seedעָמוּלוֹןA/mu/lonof Amulonוְאֶחָיוve/e/CHAYVand his brethrenאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoהָיוּha/YUwereכֹּהֲנֵיko/ha/NEthe priestsנֹחַNO/achof Noahוַיֻּכּוּvay/yuk/KUand they were slainבִּידֵיbi/DEby the handsהַנֶּפִיִּים׃han/Ne/fiy/YIMof the Nephites

   And among the Lamanites who were slain were almost all the seed of Amulon and his brethren, who were the priests of Noah, and they were slain by the hands of the Nephites;

   וְהַנּוֹתָרִיםve/han/no/ta/RIMand the remainderאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoנָסוּNA/sufledאֶל־מִדְבַּרel-mid/BARinto the wildernessקֶדֶםKE/demof the eastוַיִּתְפְּשׂוּvay/yit/pe/SUand usurpedאֶת־הַשְּׂרָרָהet-has/se/ra/RAthe powerוְהַמֶּמְשָׁלָהve/ham/mem/sha/LAand authorityעַל־הַלָּמָנִיםal-Hal/la/ma/NIMover the Lamanitesהֵבִיאוּhe/VI/ucaused thatרַבִּיםrab/BIMmanyמִן־הַלָּמָנִיםmin-Hal/la/ma/NIMof the Lamanitesלִכְלוֹתlikh/LOTshould perishבָּאֵשׁba/ESHby fireבַּעֲבוּרba/a/VURbecause ofאֱמוּנָתָם׃e/mu/na/TAMtheir belief

   And the remainder, having fled into the east wilderness, and having usurped the power and authority over the Lamanites, caused that many of the Lamanites should perish by fire because of their belief—

   For many of them, after having suffered much loss and so many afflictions, began to be stirred up in remembrance of the words which Aaron and his brethren had preached to them in their land; therefore they began to disbelieve the traditions of their fathers, and to believe in the Lord, and that he gave great power unto the Nephites; and thus there were many of them converted in the wilderness.

   וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּיkithatהַמּוֹשְׁלִיםham/mosh/LIMthe rulersהָהֵםha/HEMthoseאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoהָיוּha/YUwereשְׁאֵרִיתshe/e/RITthe remnantבְּנֵיbe/NEof the childrenעָמוּלוֹןA/mu/lonof Amulonצִוּוּtsiv/VUcommandedלַהֲמִיתָםla/ha/mi/TAMto put them to deathאַףafyeaאֶת־כׇּל־הַמַּאֲמִינִיםet-kol-ham/ma/a/mi/NIMall those that believedבַּדְּבָרִיםbad/de/va/RIMin the thingsהָאֵלֶּה׃ha/EL/lethese

   And it came to pass that those rulers who were the remnant of the children of Amulon caused that they should be put to death, yea, all those that believed in these things.

   וְעַתָּהve/at/TAnowהֵבִיאָהhe/VI/acaused thatהֲרִיגַתha/ri/GATthe slayingהַקְּדוֹשִׁיםhak/ke/do/SHIMof the saintsהַזֹּאתhaz/ZOTthisרַבִּיםrab/BIMmanyמֵאֲחֵיהֶםme/a/che/HEMof their brethrenלְהִתְעוֹרֵרle/hit/o/RERshould be stirred upלְאַףle/AFto angerוַתָּחֶלvat/TA/cheland there began to beמְרִיבָהme/ri/VAcontentionבַּמִּדְבָּרbam/mid/BARin the wildernessוַיָּחֵלּוּvay/ya/CHEL/luand beganהַלָּמָנִיםhal/La/ma/NIMthe Lamanitesלָצוּדla/TSUDto huntאֶת־זֶרַעet-ZE/rathe seedעָמוּלוֹןA/mu/lonof Amulonוְאֶחָיוve/e/CHAYVand his brethrenוַיָּחֵלּוּvay/ya/CHEL/luand beganלַהֲרֹגla/ha/ROGto slayאוֹתָםo/TAMthemוַיָּנוּסוּvay/ya/NU/suand they fledאֶל־מִדְבַּרel-mid/BARinto the wildernessקֶדֶם׃KE/demof the east

   Now this martyrdom caused that many of their brethren should be stirred up to anger; and there began to be contention in the wilderness; and the Lamanites began to hunt the seed of Amulon and his brethren and began to slay them; and they fled into the east wilderness.

   וְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdנִצּוֹדִיםnits/tso/DIMare huntedהֵםhemtheyעַד־הַיּוֹםad-hay/YOMunto the dayהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisבִּידֵיbi/DEbyהַלָּמָנִיםhal/La/ma/NIMthe Lamanitesוְכֵןve/KHENthusבָּאוּBA/ucame to passדִּבְרֵיdiv/REthe wordsאֲבִינָדִיA/VI/na/diof Abinadiאֲשֶׁר־דִּבֶּרa/SHER-dib/BERwhich he saidעַל־זֶרַעal-ZE/raconcerning the seedהַכֹּהֲנִיםhak/ko/ha/NIMof the priestsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoהֵבִיאוּhe/VI/ucausedאֶת־מוֹתוֹet-mo/TOhis deathבָאֵשׁ׃va/ESHby fire

   And behold they are hunted at this day by the Lamanites. Thus the words of Abinadi were brought to pass, which he said concerning the seed of the priests who caused that he should suffer death by fire.

    כִּיkiforאָמַרa/MARhe saidלָהֶםla/HEMunto themאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhatתַּעֲשׂוּta/a/SUyou shall doלִיliunto meיִהְיֶהyih/YEshall beלְאוֹתle/OTa typeלַבָּאוֹת׃lab/ba/OTof things to come

    For he said unto them: What ye shall do unto me shall be a type of things to come.

11. 11

    וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowהָיָהha/YAwasאֲבִינָדִיA/VI/na/diAbinadiהָרִאשׁוֹןha/ri/SHONthe firstאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatמֵתmetdiedבָּאֵשׁba/ESHby fireבַּעֲבוּרba/a/VURbecause ofאֱמוּנָתוֹe/mu/na/TOhis beliefבֵּאלֹהִיםbe/lo/HIMin Godוְזֶהve/ZEnow this isפֵּרוּשׁוֹpe/ru/SHOhis meaningכִּי־רַבִּיםki-rab/BIMthat manyיָמוּתוּya/MU/tushould dieבָאֵשׁva/ESHby fireכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERaccording asמֵתmetdiedהוּא׃huhe

    And now Abinadi was the first that suffered death by fire because of his belief in God; now this is what he meant, that many should suffer death by fire, according as he had suffered.

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand he saidאֶל־כֹּהֲנֵיel-ko/ha/NEunto the priestsנֹחַNO/achof Noahכִּיkithatזַרְעָםzar/AMtheir seedיָבִיאוּya/VI/ushould causeרַבִּיםrab/BIMmanyלָמוּתla/MUTto dieכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERin the like manner asמֵתmetdiedהוּאhuheוְכִיve/KHIand thatיָפוּצוּya/FU/tsuthey should be scattered abroadוְיֻכּוּve/yuk/KUand slainכַּצֹּאןkats/TSONeven as a sheepאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichאֵין־לוֹen-lohas noרֹעֶהro/Eshepherdנִדָּףnid/DAFis drivenוּמֻכֶּהu/muk/KEand slainבְּיַדbe/YADbyחַיּוֹתchay/YOTthe beastsהַשָּׂדֶהhas/sa/DEof the fieldוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdנֶאֶמְנוּne/em/NUwere verifiedהַדְּבָרִיםhad/de/va/RIMthe wordsהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseכִּיkiforנִדְּפוּnid/de/FUthey were drivenבִּידֵיbi/DEbyהַלָּמָנִיםhal/La/ma/NIMthe Lamanitesוַיִּצּוֹדוּvay/yits/tso/DUand they were huntedוַיֻּכּוּ׃vay/yuk/KUand they were smitten

    And he said unto the priests of Noah that their seed should cause many to be put to death, in the like manner as he was, and that they should be scattered abroad and slain, even as a sheep having no shepherd is driven and slain by wild beasts; and now behold, these words were verified, for they were driven by the Lamanites, and they were hunted, and they were smitten.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּרְאוֹתkir/OTwhen sawהַלָּמָנִיםhal/La/ma/NIMthe Lamanitesכִּי־לֹאki-lothat notיָכְלוּya/khe/LUthey could overpowerלַנֶּפִיִּיםlan/Ne/fiy/YIMthe Nephitesוַיָּשׁוּבוּvay/ya/SHU/vuthey returnedאֶל־אַרְצָםel-ar/TSAMto their own landוְרַבִּיםve/rab/BIMand manyמֵהֶםme/HEMof themבָּאוּBA/ucame overלָשֶׁבֶתla/SHE/vetto dwellבְּאֶרֶץbe/E/retsin the landיִשְׁמָעֵאלYish/ma/ELof Ishmaelוּבְאֶרֶץu/ve/E/retsand the landנֶפִיNE/fiof Nephiוַיִּתְחַבְּרוּvay/yit/chab/be/RUand joined themselvesאֶל־עַםel-amto the peopleאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMof Godהֵםhemwho wereעַםamthe peopleאַנְטִי־נֶפִי־לֶחִי׃AN/ti-NE/fi-LE/chiof Anti-Nephi-Lehi

    And it came to pass that when the Lamanites saw that they could not overpower the Nephites they returned again to their own land; and many of them came over to dwell in the land of Ishmael and the land of Nephi, and did join themselves to the people of God, who were the people of Anti-Nephi-Lehi.

    וַיִּטְמְנוּvay/yit/me/NUand buriedגַם־הֵםgam-hemthey alsoאֶת־כְּלֵיet-ke/LEtheir weaponsמִלְחַמְתָּםmil/cham/TAMof warכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERasעָשׂוּa/SUdidאֲחֵיהֶםa/che/HEMtheir brethrenוַיָּחֵלּוּvay/ya/CHEL/luand they beganלִהְיוֹתlih/YOTto beעַםama peopleצַדִּיקtsad/DIKrighteousוַיֵּלְכוּvay/yel/KHUand they walkedבְּדַרְכֵיbe/dar/KHEin the waysיְהוָהAdonaiof Adonaiוַיִּשְׁמְרוּvay/yish/me/RUand observedלַעֲשׂוֹתla/a/SOTto keepאֶת־מִצְוֹתָיוet-mits/vo/TAYVhis commandmentsוְחֻקֹּתָיו׃ve/chuk/ko/TAYVand his statutes

    And they did also bury their weapons of war, according as their brethren had, and they began to be a righteous people; and they did walk in the ways of the Lord, and did observe to keep his commandments and his statutes.

    אַףafyeaשָׁמְרוּsha/me/RUthey keptאֶת־תּוֹרַתet-to/RATthe lawמֹשֶׁהMo/SHEof Mosesכִּיkiforהָיָהha/YAit wasנָכוֹןna/KHONexpedientלִשְׁמֹרlish/MORthat they should keepאֶת־תּוֹרַתet-to/RATthe lawמֹשֶׁהMo/SHEof Mosesעַד־כֹּהad-koas yetכִּי־לֹאki-lofor notנִמְלְאָהnim/le/Ait was fulfilledכֻלָּהּkhul/LAall of itוְאַף־גַּם־זֹאתve/AF-gam-zotbut notwithstandingעִם־תּוֹרַתim-to/RATwith the lawמֹשֶׁהMo/SHEof Mosesצָפוּtsa/FUthey looked forwardלְבוֹאle/VOto the comingהַמָּשִׁיחַham/Ma/SHI/achof Christבְּחׇשְׁבָםbe/chosh/VAMconsideringכִּיkithatתּוֹרַתto/RATthe lawמֹשֶׁהMo/SHEof Mosesהָיְתָהha/ye/TAwasאוֹתota typeלְבוֹאוֹle/vo/Oof his comingוַיַּאֲמִינוּvay/ya/a/MI/nuand believingכִּיkithatעֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMthey mustלִשְׁמֹרlish/MORkeepאֶת־הַמַּעֲשִׂיםet-ham/ma/a/SIMthe performancesהַחִיצוֹנִיםha/chi/tso/NIMoutwardהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/lethoseעַד־עֵתad-etuntil the time thatיִגָּלֶהyig/ga/LEhe should be revealedלָהֶם׃la/HEMunto them

    Yea, and they did keep the law of Moses; for it was expedient that they should keep the law of Moses as yet, for it was not all fulfilled. But notwithstanding the law of Moses, they did look forward to the coming of Christ, considering that the law of Moses was a type of his coming, and believing that they must keep those outward performances until the time that he should be revealed unto them.

    וְלֹאve/LOnow they did notחָשְׁבוּcha/she/VUsupposeכִּיkithatבָאָהva/Acameהַיְשׁוּעָהhay/shu/Asalvationבְּתוֹרַתbe/to/RATby the lawמֹשֶׁהMo/SHEof Mosesאַךְakhbutתּוֹרַתto/RATthe lawמֹשֶׁהMo/SHEof Mosesחִזְּקָהchiz/ze/KAstrengthenedאֶת־אֱמוּנָתָםet-e/mu/na/TAMtheir faithבַּמָּשִׁיחַbam/Ma/SHI/achin Christוְכֵןve/KHENand thusשָׁמְרוּsha/me/RUthey retainedתִּקְוָהtik/VAa hopeבֶאֱמוּנָהve/e/mu/NAthrough faithלִתְשׁוּעַתlit/shu/ATunto salvationעוֹלָמִיםo/la/MIMeternalנִשְׁעָנִיםnish/a/NIMrelyingעַל־רוּחַal-RU/achupon the spiritהַנְּבוּאָהhan/ne/vu/Aof prophecyהַמְּדַבֶּרֶתham/me/dab/BE/retwhich spokeעַל־הַדְּבָרִיםal-had/de/va/RIMof those thingsהַבָּאִים׃hab/ba/IMto come

    Now they did not suppose that salvation came by the law of Moses; but the law of Moses did serve to strengthen their faith in Christ; and thus they did retain a hope through faith, unto eternal salvation, relying upon the spirit of prophecy, which spake of those things to come.

    וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdשָׂמְחוּsa/me/CHUrejoicedעַמּוֹןAm/MONAmmonוְאַהֲרֹןve/A/ha/RONand Aaronוְעׇמְנֵרve/Om/NERand Omnerוְהִמְנִיve/HIM/niand Himniוַאֲחֵיהֶםva/a/che/HEMand their brethrenשִׂמְחָהsim/CHAwith joyגְדוֹלָהge/do/LAgreatעַל־הַצְלָחָתָםal-hats/la/cha/TAMbecause of their successבְּקֶרֶבbe/KE/revamongהַלָּמָנִיםhal/La/ma/NIMthe Lamanitesכִּי־נָתַןki-na/TANseeing that grantedיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiלָהֶםla/HEMunto themכִּתְפִלָּתָםkit/fil/la/TAMaccording to their prayersוְגַםve/GAMand alsoהֵקִיםhe/KIMhe verifiedאֶת־דְּבָרוֹet-de/va/ROhis wordלָהֶםla/HEMunto themבְּכׇל־דָּבָרbe/KHOL-da/VARin everyוְדָבָר׃ve/da/VARparticular

    And now behold, Ammon, and Aaron, and Omner, and Himni, and their brethren did rejoice exceedingly, for the success which they had had among the Lamanites, seeing that the Lord had granted unto them according to their prayers, and that he had also verified his word unto them in every particular.
