   שִׁמְעוּhearkenאֵלַיto meרֹדְפֵיthose who follow afterצֶדֶקrighteousnessהַבִּיטוּlookאֶל־צוּרto the rockחֻצַּבְתֶּםyou were hewnוְאֶל־מַקֶּבֶתand to the hole ofבּוֹרthe pitנֻקַּרְתֶּם׃you were digged

   Hearken unto me, ye that follow after righteousness. Look unto the rock from whence ye are hewn, and to the hole of the pit from whence ye are digged.

2. 2

   הַבִּיטוּlookאֶל־אַבְרָהָםto Abrahamאֲבִיכֶםyour fatherוְאֶל־שָׂרָהand to Sarahתְּחוֹלֶלְכֶםwho bore youכִּי־אֶחָדfor aloneקְרָאתִיוI called himוַאֲבָרְכֵהוּ׃and blessed him

   Look unto Abraham, your father, and unto Sarah, she that bare you; for I called him alone, and blessed him.

   כִּי־נִחַםfor shall comfortיְהֹוָהthe LORDצִיּוֹןZionנִחַםhe will comfortכׇּל־חׇרְבֹתֶיהָall her waste placesוַיָּשֶׂםand he will makeמִדְבָּרָהּher wildernessכְּעֵדֶןlike Edenוְעַרְבָתָהּand her desertכְּגַן־יְהֹוָהlike the garden of the LORDשָׂשׂוֹןjoyוְשִׂמְחָהand gladnessיִמָּצֵאshall be foundבָהּin itתּוֹדָהthanksgivingוְקוֹלand the voice ofזִמְרָה׃melody

   For the Lord shall comfort Zion, he will comfort all her waste places; and he will make her wilderness like Eden, and her desert like the garden of the Lord. Joy and gladness shall be found therein, thanksgiving and the voice of melody.

   הַקְשִׁיבוּhearkenאֵלַיto meעַמִּיmy peopleוּלְאוּמִּיand O my nationאֵלַיto meהַאֲזִינוּgive earכִּיbecauseתוֹרָהLawמֵאִתִּיfrom meתֵצֵאshall proceedוּמִשְׁפָּטִיand my judgmentלְאוֹרfor a light ofעַמִּיםthe peoplesאַרְגִּיעַ׃I will make suddenly

   Hearken unto me, my people; and give ear unto me, O my nation; for a law shall proceed from me, and I will make my judgment to rest for a light for the people.

   קָרוֹבnearצִדְקִיmy righteousnessיָצָאis gone forthיִשְׁעִיmy salvationוּזְרֹעִיand my armעַמִּיםthe peoplesתִשְׁפֹּטshall judgeאֵלַיto meאִיִּיםthe islesיְקַוּוּshall waitוְאֶל־זְרֹעִיand on my armיְיַחֵלוּן׃shall they trust

   My righteousness is near; my salvation is gone forth, and mine arm shall judge the people. The isles shall wait upon me, and on mine arm shall they trust.

   שְׂאוּlift upלַשָּׁמַיִםto the heavensעֵינֵיכֶםyour eyesוְהַבִּיטוּand lookאֶל־הָאָרֶץupon the earthמִתַּחַתbeneathכִּי־שָׁמַיִםfor the heavensכֶּעָשָׁןlike smokeנִמְלָחוּshall vanish awayוְהָאָרֶץand the earthכַּבֶּגֶדas a garmentתִּבְלֶהshall wax oldוְיֹשְׁבֶיהָand its inhabitantsכְּמוֹ־כֵןin like mannerיְמוּתוּןshall dieוִישׁוּעָתִיbut my salvationלְעוֹלָםforeverתִּהְיֶהshall beוְצִדְקָתִיand my righteousnessלֹאshall notתֵחָת׃be abolished

   Lift up your eyes to the heavens, and look upon the earth beneath; for the heavens shall vanish away like smoke, and the earth shall wax old like a garment; and they that dwell therein shall die in like manner. But my salvation shall be forever, and my righteousness shall not be abolished.

   שִׁמְעוּhearkenאֵלַיto meיֹדְעֵיyou who knowצֶדֶקrighteousnessעַםthe peopleאֲשֶׁרin whoseכָּתַבְתִּיI have writtenתוֹרָתִיmy lawבְלִבָּםheartאַל־תִּירְאוּfear notחֶרְפַּתthe reproach ofאֱנוֹשׁmenוּמִגִּדֻּפֹתָםneither by their revilingsאַל־תֵּחָתּוּ׃be you not afraid

   Hearken unto me, ye that know righteousness, the people in whose heart I have written my law, fear ye not the reproach of men, neither be ye afraid of their revilings.

8. 8

   כִּיforכַבֶּגֶדlike a garmentיֹאכְלֵםshall eat themעָשׁthe mothוְכַצֶּמֶרand like woolיֹאכְלֵםshall eat themסָסthe wormוְצִדְקָתִיbut my righteousnessלְעוֹלָםforeverתִּהְיֶהshall beוִישׁוּעָתִיand my salvationלְדוֹרfrom generationדּוֹרִים׃to generations

   For the moth shall eat them up like a garment, and the worm shall eat them like wool. But my righteousness shall be forever, and my salvation from generation to generation.

   עוּרִיawakeעוּרִיawakeלִבְשִׁי־עֹזput on strengthזְרוֹעַO arm ofיְהוָהthe Lordעוּרִיawakeכִּימֵיas in the days ofקֶדֶםoldהֲלוֹאart notאַתָּהyouהוּאheהַמַּחְצֶבֶתwho hewedרַהַבRahabמְחוֹלֶלֶתand woundedתַּנִּין׃the dragon

   Awake, awake! Put on strength, O arm of the Lord; awake as in the ancient days. Art thou not he that hath cut Rahab, and wounded the dragon?

10. 10

    הֲלוֹאart notאַתָּהyouהוּאheהַמַּחֲרֶבֶתwho driedיָםthe seaמֵיthe waters ofתְהוֹםthe deepרַבָּהgreatהַשָּׂמָהwho madeמַעֲמַקֵּי־יָםthe depths of the seaדֶּרֶךְa wayלַעֲבֹרto pass overגְּאוּלִים׃the ransomed

    Art thou not he who hath dried the sea, the waters of the great deep; that hath made the depths of the sea a way for the ransomed to pass over?

11. 11

    וּפְדוּיֵיtherefore the redeemed ofיְהוָהthe Lordיְשׁוּבוּןshall returnוּבָאוּand shall comeצִיּוֹןto Zionבְּרִנָּהwith singingוְשִׂמְחַתand joy ofעוֹלָםeverlastingוְקֹדֶשׁand holinessעַל־רֹאשָׁםupon their headsשָׂשׂוֹןgladnessוְשִׂמְחָהand joyיַשִּׂיגוּןshall they obtainנָסוּshall fleeיָגוֹןsorrowוַאֲנָחָה׃and mourning

    Therefore, the redeemed of the Lord shall return, and come with singing unto Zion; and everlasting joy and holiness shall be upon their heads; and they shall obtain gladness and joy; sorrow and mourning shall flee away.

    אָנֹכִיI amהוּאheאַףyeaאָנֹכִיI amהוּאheאֲשֶׁרwhoיְנַחֶמְכֶםshall comfort youהִנֵּהbeholdמִי־אַתְּwho are youכִּיthatתִירְאִיyou should be afraidמֵאֱנוֹשׁof a mortal manיָמוּתwho shall dieוּמִבֶּן־אָדָםand of the son of manכֶּחָצִירas grassיִנָּתֵן׃shall be made

    I am he; yea, I am he that comforteth you. Behold, who art thou, that thou shouldst be afraid of man, who shall die, and of the son of man, who shall be made like unto grass?

13. 13

    וַתִּשְׁכַּחand forgettestיְהוָהthe Lordעֹשֶׂךָyour Makerנוֹטֶהthat stretched forthשָׁמַיִםthe heavensוְיֹסֵדand that laid the foundations ofאָרֶץthe earthוַתְּפַחֵדand hast fearedתָּמִידcontinuallyכׇּל־הַיּוֹםevery dayמִפְּנֵיbecause ofחֲמַתthe fury ofהַמֵּצִיקthe oppressorכַּאֲשֶׁרas ifכּוֹנֵןhe were readyלְהַשְׁחִיתto destroyוְאַיֵּהand where isחֲמַתthe fury ofהַמֵּצִיק׃the oppressor

    And forgettest the Lord thy maker, that hath stretched forth the heavens, and laid the foundations of the earth, and hast feared continually every day, because of the fury of the oppressor, as if he were ready to destroy? And where is the fury of the oppressor?

14. 14

    מִהַרhastenethצֹעֶהthe captive exileלְהִפָּתֵחַto be loosedוְלֹאand notיָמוּתshall he dieלַשַּׁחַתin the pitוְלֹאand notיֶחְסַרshall failלַחְמוֹ׃his bread

    The captive exile hasteneth, that he may be loosed, and that he should not die in the pit, nor that his bread should fail.

15. 15

    וְאָנֹכִיbut I amיְהוָהthe Lordאֱלֹהֶיךָyour Godאֲשֶׁרwhoהָמוּroaredגַּלָּיוits wavesיְהוָהthe Lordצְבָאוֹתof Hostsשְׁמִי׃is my name

    But I am the Lord thy God, whose waves roared; the Lord of Hosts is my name.

16. 16

    וָאָשִׂםand I have putדְּבָרַיmy wordsבְּפִיךָin your mouthוּבְצֵלand in the shadow ofיָדִיmy handכִּסִּיתִיךָhave I covered youלִנְטֹעַto plantשָׁמַיִםthe heavensוְלִיסֹדand to lay the foundations ofאָרֶץthe earthוְלֵאמֹרand to sayלְצִיּוֹןto Zionעַמִּי־אָתָּה׃you are my people

    And I have put my words in thy mouth, and have covered thee in the shadow of mine hand, that I may plant the heavens and lay the foundations of the earth, and say unto Zion: Behold, thou art my people.

17. 17

    הִתְעוֹרְרִיawakeהִתְעוֹרְרִיawakeקוּמִיstand upיְרוּשָׁלַיִםO Jerusalemאֲשֶׁרwhichשָׁתִיתhast drunkמִיַּדfrom the hand ofיְהוָהthe Lordאֶת־כּוֹסthe cup ofחֲמָתוֹhis furyאֶת־קֻבַּעַתthe dregs ofכּוֹסthe cup ofהַתַּרְעֵלָהthe tremblingשָׁתִיתyou have drunkמָצִית׃wrung out

    Awake, awake, stand up, O Jerusalem, which hast drunk at the hand of the Lord the cup of his fury—thou hast drunken the dregs of the cup of trembling wrung out—

18. 18

    וְאֵיןand there is noneמְנַהֵלto guideלָהּto herמִכׇּל־בָּנִיםof all the sonsיָלָדָהshe has borneוְאֵיןand there is noneמַחֲזִיקto take hold ofבְּיָדָהּher handמִכׇּל־בָּנִיםof all the sonsגִּדֵּלָה׃she has brought up

    And none to guide her among all the sons she hath brought forth; neither that taketh her by the hand, of all the sons she hath brought up.

19. 19

    בָּאוּare comeלָךְto youשְׁנֵיtwoבָנַיִךְyour sonsאֲשֶׁרwhoיָנוּדוּshall be sorryלָךְfor youהַשֹּׁדdesolationוְהַשֶּׁבֶרand destructionוְהָרָעָבand the famineוְהַחֶרֶבand the swordבְּמִיby whomאֲנַחֲמֵךְ׃shall I comfort you

    These two sons are come unto thee, who shall be sorry for thee—thy desolation and destruction, and the famine and the sword—and by whom shall I comfort thee?

20. 20

    עָלְפוּhave faintedבָנַיִךְyour sonsזוּלָתִיsaveשְׁנֵיtwoאֵלֶּהtheseשָׁכְבוּthey lieבְּרֹאשׁat the head ofכׇּל־חוּצוֹתall the streetsכְּתוֹאas a wild bullמִכְמָרin a netהַמְלֵאִיםthey are full ofחֲמַתthe fury ofיְהוָהthe Lordגַּעֲרַתthe rebuke ofאֱלֹהָיִךְ׃your God

    Thy sons have fainted, save these two; they lie at the head of all the streets; as a wild bull in a net, they are full of the fury of the Lord, the rebuke of thy God.

21. 21

    לָכֵןthereforeשִׁמְעִי־נָאhear nowזֹאתthisעֲנִיָּהyou afflictedוּשְׁכֻרַתand drunkenוְלֹאand notמִיָּיִן׃from wine

    Therefore hear now this, thou afflicted, and drunken, and not with wine:

22. 22

    כֹּה־אָמַרthus saithאֲדֹנַיִךְyour Lordיְהוָהthe Lordוֵאלֹהַיִךְand your Godיָרִיבwho pleads the cause ofעַמּוֹhis peopleהִנֵּהbeholdלָקַחְתִּיI have takenמִיָּדֵךְfrom your handאֶת־כּוֹסthe cup ofהַתַּרְעֵלָהthe tremblingאֶת־קֻבַּעַתthe dregs ofכּוֹסthe cup ofחֲמָתִיmy furyלֹא־תוֹסִיפִיshalt no longerלִשְׁתּוֹתָהּdrink itעוֹד׃again

    Thus saith thy Lord, the Lord and thy God pleadeth the cause of his people; behold, I have taken out of thine hand the cup of trembling, the dregs of the cup of my fury; thou shalt no more drink it again.

23. 23

    וְשַׂמְתִּיהָbut I will put itבְּיַד־מוֹגַיִךְinto the hand of those who afflict youאֲשֶׁר־אָמְרוּwho saidלְנַפְשֵׁךְto your soulשְׁחִיbow downוְנַעֲבֹרָהthat we may go overוַתָּשִׂימִיand you have laidכָאָרֶץas the groundגֵּוֵךְyour bodyוְכַחוּץand as the streetלַעֹבְרִים׃to those who passed over

    But I will put it into the hand of them that afflict thee; who have said to thy soul: Bow down, that we may go over—and thou hast laid thy body as the ground and as the street to them that went over.

24. 24

    עוּרִיawakeעוּרִיawakeלִבְשִׁיput onעֻזֵּךְyour strengthצִיּוֹןZionלִבְשִׁיput onבִּגְדֵיgarments ofתִפְאַרְתֵּךְyour beautyיְרוּשָׁלִַיםJerusalemעִירthe city ofהַקֹּדֶשׁthe holyכִּיforלֹאnoיוֹסִיףmoreיָבֹא־בָךְshall come into youעוֹדhenceforthעָרֵלthe uncircumcisedוְטָמֵא׃and the unclean

    Awake, awake, put on thy strength, O Zion; put on thy beautiful garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city; for henceforth there shall no more come into thee the uncircumcised and the unclean.

25. 25

    הִתְנַעֲרִיshake yourselfמֵעָפָרfrom the dustקוּמִיariseשְּׁבִיsit downיְרוּשָׁלַיִםO Jerusalemהִתְפַּתְּחִיloose yourselfמוֹסְרֵיfrom the bands ofצַוָּארֵךְyour neckשְׁבִיָּהO captiveבַּת־צִיּוֹן׃daughter of Zion

    Shake thyself from the dust; arise, sit down, O Jerusalem; loose thyself from the bands of thy neck, O captive daughter of Zion.
