    וַיְכֻלּוּThus were finishedהַשָּׁמַיִםthe heavensוְהָאָרֶץand the earth,וְכׇל־צְבָאָם׃and all the host of them.

    Thus the heaven and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.

    וּבַיּוֹםAnd on the dayהַשְּׁבִיעִיthe seventhאֲנִיI,אֱלֹהִיםGod,כִּלֵּיתִיendedמְלַאכְתִּיmy work,וְאֵתandכׇּל־אֲשֶׁרall things whichעָשִׂיתִיI had made;וָאֶשְׁבֹּתand I restedבַּיּוֹםon the dayהַשְּׁבִיעִיthe seventhמִכׇּל־מְלַאכְתִּיfrom all my work,וְכׇל־אֲשֶׁרand all things whichעָשִׂיתִיI had madeכֻּלּוּwere finished,וַאֲנִיand I,אֱלֹהִיםGod,רָאִיתִיsawכִּיthatטוֹבִיםgoodהֵם׃they were;

    And on the seventh day I, God, ended my work, and all things which I had made; and I rested on the seventh day from all my work, and all things which I had made were finished, and I, God, saw that they were good;

    וַאֲנִיAnd I,אֱלֹהִיםGod,בֵּרַכְתִּיblessedאֶת־יוֹםdayהַשְּׁבִיעִיthe seventh,וַאֲקַדֵּשׁand sanctifiedאֹתוֹit;כִּיbecauseבוֹthat in itשָׁבַתִּיI had restedמִכׇּל־מְלַאכְתִּיfrom all my workאֲשֶׁרwhichאֲנִיI,אֱלֹהִיםGod,בָּרָאתִיhad createdוְעָשִׂיתִי׃and made.

    And I, God, blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it; because that in it I had rested from all my work which I, God, had created and made.

    וְעַתָּהAnd now,הִנֵּהbehold,אֲנִיIאֹמֵרsayלְךָunto you,כִּיthatאֵלֶּהthese areתוֹלְדוֹתthe generations ofהַשָּׁמַיִםthe heavenוְהָאָרֶץand of the earth,בְּהִבָּרְאָםwhen they were created,בְּיוֹםin the day thatעֲשׂוֹתִיmadeאֲנִיI,יְהוָהthe LordאֱלֹהִיםGod,אֶת־הַשָּׁמַיִםthe heavenוְאֶת־הָאָרֶץ׃and the earth,

    And now, behold, I say unto you, that these are the generations of the heaven and of the earth, when they were created, in the day that I, the Lord God, made the heaven and the earth,

    וְכֹלAnd everyשִׂיחַplant ofהַשָּׂדֶהthe fieldטֶרֶםbeforeיִהְיֶהit wasבָאָרֶץin the earth,וְכׇל־עֵשֶׂבand every herb ofהַשָּׂדֶהthe fieldטֶרֶםbeforeיִצְמָחit grew.כִּיForאֲנִיI,יְהוָהthe LordאֱלֹהִיםGod,בָּרָאתִיcreatedאֶת־כׇּל־הַדְּבָרִיםall things,אֲשֶׁרof whichדִּבַּרְתִּיI have spoken,בָרוּחַspiritually,לִפְנֵיbeforeהֱיוֹתָםthey wereבַּבָּשָׂרnaturallyעַל־פְּנֵיupon the face ofהָאָרֶץthe earth.כִּיForאֲנִיI,יְהוָהthe LordאֱלֹהִיםGod,לֹאhad notהִמְטַרְתִּיcaused it to rainעַל־פְּנֵיupon the face ofהָאָרֶץthe earth.וַאֲנִיAnd I,יְהוָהthe LordאֱלֹהִיםGod,בָּרָאתִיhad createdאֶת־כׇּל־בְּנֵיall the children ofהָאָדָםmen;וְאֵיןand not yetאָדָםa manלַעֲבֹדto tillאֶת־הָאֲדָמָהthe ground;כִּיforבַשָּׁמַיִםin heavenבְּרָאתִיםcreated I them;וְלֹאand not yetהָיָהwas thereבָשָׂרfleshעַל־הָאָרֶץupon the earth,וְלֹאneitherבַמַּיִםin the water,וְלֹאneitherבָאֲוִיר׃in the air;

    And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew. For I, the Lord God, created all things, of which I have spoken, spiritually, before they were naturally upon the face of the earth. For I, the Lord God, had not caused it to rain upon the face of the earth. And I, the Lord God, had created all the children of men; and not yet a man to till the ground; for in heaven created I them; and there was not yet flesh upon the earth, neither in the water, neither in the air;

    אַךְButאֲנִיI,יְהוָהthe LordאֱלֹהִיםGod,דִּבַּרְתִּיspake,וַיַּעַלand there went upאֵדa mistמִן־הָאָרֶץfrom the earth,וַיַּשְׁקְand wateredאֶת־כׇּל־פְּנֵיthe whole face ofהָאֲדָמָה׃the ground.

    But I, the Lord God, spake, and there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.

    וַאֲנִיAnd I,יְהוָהthe LordאֱלֹהִיםGod,יָצַרְתִּיformedאֶת־הָאָדָםmanעָפָרfrom the dustמִן־הָאֲדָמָהof the ground,וָאֶפַּחand breathedבְּאַפָּיוinto his nostrilsנִשְׁמַתthe breath ofחַיִּיםlife;וַיְהִיand becameהָאָדָםmanלְנֶפֶשׁa soulחַיָּהliving,הַבָּשָׂרthe fleshהָרִאשׁוֹןfirstעַל־הָאָרֶץupon the earth,וְהָאָדָםand the manהָרִאשׁוֹןfirstגַּםalso;אַךְnevertheless,כֹּלall thingsנִבְרָאwere createdמִקֶּדֶםbefore;אַךְbutבָרוּחַspirituallyנִבְרְאוּwere they createdוְנַעֲשׂוּand madeכִּדְבָרִי׃according to my word.

    And I, the Lord God, formed man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul, the first flesh upon the earth, the first man also; nevertheless, all things were before created; but spiritually were they created and made according to my word.

    וַאֲנִיAnd I,יְהוָהthe LordאֱלֹהִיםGod,נָטַעְתִּיplantedגַּןa gardenבְּעֵדֶןin Eden,מִקֶּדֶםeastward,וָאָשִׂםand I putשָׁםthereאֶת־הָאָדָםthe man,אֲשֶׁרwhomיָצָרְתִּי׃I had formed.

    And I, the Lord God, planted a garden eastward in Eden, and there I put the man whom I had formed.

    וּמִן־הָאֲדָמָהAnd out of the groundהִצְמַחְתִּיmade to growאֲנִיI,יְהוָהthe LordאֱלֹהִיםGod,כׇּל־עֵץevery tree,בַּבָּשָׂרnaturally,נֶחְמָדthat is pleasantלְמַרְאֵהto the sight ofהָאָדָםman;וְהָאָדָםand manיָכֹלcouldלִרְאוֹתוֹ׃behold it.וַיְהִיAnd it becameגַם־הוּאalsoלְנֶפֶשׁa soulחַיָּה׃living.כִּיForבָרוּחַspiritualהָיָהit wasבַּיּוֹםin the dayאֲשֶׁרthatבְּרָאתִיוI created it;כִּיforעֹמֵדremainethהוּאitבַּגְּבוּלin the sphereאֲשֶׁרin whichבּוֹthereinאֲנִיI,אֱלֹהִיםGod,בְּרָאתִיוcreated it,אַףyea, evenכׇּל־הַדְּבָרִיםall thingsאֲשֶׁרwhichהֲכִינוֹתִיI preparedלַעֲבֹדַתfor the use ofהָאָדָםman;וַיַּרְאand sawהָאָדָםmanכִּיthatטוֹבgoodהוּאit wasלְמַאֲכׇל׃for food.וַאֲנִיAnd I,יְהוָהthe LordאֱלֹהִיםGod,נָטַעְתִּיplantedגַּםalsoאֶת־עֵץthe tree ofהַחַיִּיםlifeבְּתוֹךְin the midst ofהַגָּןthe garden,וְגַםand alsoאֶת־עֵץthe tree ofהַדַּעַתknowledge ofטוֹבgoodוָרָע׃and evil.

    And out of the ground made I, the Lord God, to grow every tree, naturally, that is pleasant to the sight of man; and man could behold it. And it became also a living soul. For it was spiritual in the day that I created it; for it remaineth in the sphere in which I, God, created it, yea, even all things which I prepared for the use of man; and man saw that it was good for food. And I, the Lord God, planted the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and also the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

    וַאֲנִיAnd I,יְהוָהthe LordאֱלֹהִיםGod,הוֹצֵאתִיcaused to go outנָהָרa riverמֵעֵדֶןof Edenלְהַשְׁקוֹתto waterאֶת־הַגָּןthe garden;וּמִשָּׁםand from thenceיִפָּרֵדit was parted,וְהָיָהand becameלְאַרְבָּעָהinto fourרָאשִׁים׃heads.

    And I, the Lord God, caused a river to go out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads.

    וַאֲנִיAnd I,יְהוָהthe LordאֱלֹהִיםGod,קָרָאתִיcalledשֵׁםthe name ofהָאֶחָדthe firstפִּישׁוֹןPison,וְהוּאand itהַסֹּבֵבcompassethאֵת־כׇּל־אֶרֶץthe whole land ofהַחֲוִילָהHavilah,אֲשֶׁר־שָׁםwhereאֲנִיI,יְהוָהthe LordאֱלֹהִיםGod,בָּרָאתִיcreatedזָהָבgoldרָב׃much.

    And I, the Lord God, called the name of the first Pison, and it compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where I, the Lord God, created much gold;

    וּזְהַבAnd the gold ofהָאָרֶץthe landהַהִואthatטוֹבis good;שָׁםthere isהַבְּדֹלַחbdellium,וְאֶבֶןand stone ofהַשֹּׁהַם׃onyx.

    And the gold of that land was good, and there was bdellium and the onyx stone.

    וְשֵׁםAnd the name ofהַנָּהָרthe riverהַשֵּׁנִיsecondנִקְרָאwas calledגִּיחוֹןGihon;הוּאthe sameהַסֹּבֵבthat compassethאֵת־כׇּל־אֶרֶץthe whole land ofכּוּשׁ׃Ethiopia.

    And the name of the second river was called Gihon; the same that compasseth the whole land of Ethiopia.

    וְשֵׁםAnd the name ofהַנָּהָרthe riverהַשְּׁלִישִׁיthirdחִדֶּקֶלis Hiddekel;הוּאthatהַהֹלֵךְis it which goeth towardקִדְמַתthe east ofאַשּׁוּרAssyria.וְהַנָּהָרAnd the riverהָרְבִיעִיfourthהוּאthatפְרָת׃is Euphrates.

    And the name of the third river was Hiddekel; that which goeth toward the east of Assyria. And the fourth river was the Euphrates.

  15. 15

    וַאֲנִיAnd I,יְהוָהthe LordאֱלֹהִיםGod,לָקַחְתִּיtookאֶת־הָאָדָםthe man,וָאַנִּחֵהוּand put himבְגַן־עֵדֶןinto the Garden of Eden,לְעׇבְדָהּto dress it,וּלְשׇׁמְרָהּ׃and to keep it.

    And I, the Lord God, took the man, and put him into the Garden of Eden, to dress it, and to keep it.

  16. 16

    וַאֲנִיAnd I,יְהוָהthe LordאֱלֹהִיםGod,צִוֵּיתִיcommandedעַל־הָאָדָםthe man,לֵאמֹרsaying:מִכֹּלOf everyעֵץ־הַגָּןtree of the gardenאָכֹלfreelyתֹּאכֵל׃you mayest eat,

    And I, the Lord God, commanded the man, saying: Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat,

  17. 17

    אַךְButמֵעֵץof the tree ofהַדַּעַתthe knowledge ofטוֹבgoodוָרָעand evil,לֹאnotתֹאכַלyou shall eatמִמֶּנּוּof it,אַךְnevertheless,תּוּכַלyou mayestלִבְחֹרchooseלְךָfor thyself,כִּיforנִתַּן־לְךָit is given unto you;אַךְbut,זְכֹרrememberכִּיthatאָנֹכִיIאֹסֵרforbidאֹתוֹit,כִּיforבְּיוֹםin the dayאֲכׇלְךָyou eatמִמֶּנּוּthereofמוֹתsurelyתָּמוּת׃you shall die.

    But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it, nevertheless, thou mayest choose for thyself, for it is given unto thee; but, remember that I forbid it, for in the day thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

    וַאֲנִיAnd I,יְהוָהthe LordאֱלֹהִיםGod,אָמַרְתִּיsaidאֶל־יְחִידִיunto mine Only Begotten,כִּיthatלֹא־טוֹבit was not goodהֱיוֹתthat should beהָאָדָםthe manלְבַדּוֹalone;עַל־כֵּןwherefore,אֶעֱשֶׂה־לּוֹI will make for himעֵזֶרan helpכְּנֶגְדּוֹ׃meet.

    And I, the Lord God, said unto mine Only Begotten, that it was not good that the man should be alone; wherefore, I will make an help meet for him.

  19. 19

    וּמִן־הָאֲדָמָהAnd out of the groundיָצַרְתִּיformedאֲנִיI,יְהוָהthe LordאֱלֹהִיםGod,כׇּל־חַיַּתevery beast ofהַשָּׂדֶהthe field,וְאֵתandכׇּל־עוֹףevery fowl ofהַשָּׁמַיִםthe air;וָאֲצַוֶּהand commandedכִּיthatיָבֹאוּthey should comeאֶל־אָדָםunto Adam,לִרְאוֹתto seeמַה־יִּקְרָאwhat he would callלָהֶםthem;וְהֵםand they wereגַּםalsoנַפְשׁוֹתsoulsחַיּוֹתliving;כִּיforאֲנִיI,אֱלֹהִיםGod,נָפַחְתִּיbreathedבָהֶםinto themנִשְׁמַתthe breath ofחַיִּיםlife,וָאֲצַוֶּהand commandedכִּיthatכֹלwhatsoeverאֲשֶׁרwhichיִקְרָא־לוֹcalledאָדָםAdamנֶפֶשׁsoulחַיָּהevery living,הוּאthat should beשְׁמוֹ׃the name thereof.

    And out of the ground I, the Lord God, formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and commanded that they should come unto Adam, to see what he would call them; and they were also living souls; for I, God, breathed into them the breath of life, and commanded that whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that should be the name thereof.

  20. 20

    וַיִּקְרָאAnd gaveאָדָםAdamשֵׁמוֹתnamesלְכׇל־הַבְּהֵמָהto all cattle,וּלְעוֹףand to the fowl ofהַשָּׁמַיִםthe air,וּלְכֹלand to everyחַיַּתbeast ofהַשָּׂדֶהthe field;אַךְbutלְאָדָםas for Adam,לֹאnotנִמְצָאthere was foundעֵזֶרan helpכְּנֶגְדּוֹ׃meet for him.

    And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but as for Adam, there was not found an help meet for him.

  21. 21

    וַאֲנִיAnd I,יְהוָהthe LordאֱלֹהִיםGod,הִפַּלְתִּיcaused to fallתַּרְדֵּמָהa deep sleepעַל־אָדָםupon Adam;וַיִּישָׁןand he slept,וָאֶקַּחand I tookאַחַתoneמִצַּלְעֹתָיוof his ribsוָאֶסְגֹּרand closed upבָּשָׂרthe fleshתַּחְתֶּנָּה׃in the stead thereof;

    And I, the Lord God, caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam; and he slept, and I took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh in the stead thereof;

  22. 22

    וְאֶת־הַצֵּלָעAnd the ribאֲשֶׁרwhichלָקַחְתִּיhad takenאֲנִיI,יְהוָהthe LordאֱלֹהִיםGod,מִן־הָאָדָםfrom man,יָצַרְתִּיmade Iלְאִשָּׁהa woman,וָאֲבִאֶהָand brought herאֶל־הָאָדָם׃unto the man.

    And the rib which I, the Lord God, had taken from man, made I a woman, and brought her unto the man.

  23. 23

    וַיֹּאמֶרAnd saidאָדָםAdam:זֹאתThisיָדַעְתִּיI knowהַפַּעַםnow isעֶצֶםboneמֵעֲצָמַיof my bones,וּבָשָׂרand fleshמִבְּשָׂרִיof my flesh;לְזֹאתsheיִקָּרֵאshall be calledאִשָּׁהWoman,כִּיbecauseמֵאִישׁout of manלֻקְחָה־זֹּאת׃she was taken.

    And Adam said: This I know now is bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of man.

  24. 24

    עַל־כֵּןThereforeיַעֲזׇב־אִישׁshall a man leaveאֶת־אָבִיוhis fatherוְאֶת־אִמּוֹand his mother,וְדָבַקand shall cleaveבְּאִשְׁתּוֹunto his wife;וְהָיוּand they shall beלְבָשָׂרfleshאֶחָד׃one.

    Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife; and they shall be one flesh.

  25. 25

    וַיִּהְיוּAnd they wereשְׁנֵיהֶםbothעֲרוּמִּיםnaked,הָאָדָםthe manוְאִשְׁתּוֹand his wife,וְלֹאand were notיִתְבֹּשָׁשׁוּ׃ashamed.

    And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.
