Abraham 5 אַבְרָהָם פרק ה׳

1. 1

   וְכֹהAnd thusנְכַלֶּהwe will finishאֶת־הַשָּׁמַיִםthe heavensוְאֶת־הָאָרֶץand the earth,וְאֶת־כׇּל־צְבָאָם׃and all the hosts of them.

   And thus we will finish the heavens and the earth, and all the hosts of them.

2. 2

   וַיֹּאמְרוּAnd saidהָאֱלֹהִיםthe Godsבֵּינֵיהֶםamong themselves:בַּפַּעַםOn the timeהַשְּׁבִיעִיתseventhנְכַלֶּהwe will endאֶת־מְלַאכְתֵּנוּour work,אֲשֶׁרwhichיָעַצְנוּwe have counseledוְנִשְׁבֹּתand we will restבַּפַּעַםon the timeהַשְּׁבִיעִיתseventhמִכׇּל־מְלַאכְתֵּנוּfrom all our workאֲשֶׁרwhichיָעַצְנוּ׃we have counseled.

   And the Gods said among themselves: On the seventh time we will end our work, which we have counseled; and we will rest on the seventh time from all our work which we have counseled.

3. 3

   וַיִּגְזְרוּAnd concludedהָאֱלֹהִיםthe Godsבַּפַּעַםon the timeהַשְּׁבִיעִיתseventh,כִּיbecauseבַּפַּעַםon the timeהַשְּׁבִיעִיתseventhיִשְׁבֹּתוּthey would restמִכׇּל־מַעֲשֵׂיהֶםfrom all their worksאֲשֶׁרwhichיָעֲצוּthey had counseledבֵּינֵיהֶםamong themselvesלַעֲשׂוֹתto form;וַיְקַדְּשׁוּand sanctifiedאֹתוֹit.וְכֵןAnd thusהָיוּwereמַחְשְׁבוֹתֵיהֶםtheir decisionsבָּעֵתat the timeאֲשֶׁרthatיָעֲצוּthey counseledבֵּינֵיהֶםamong themselvesלַעֲשׂוֹתin the forming ofאֶת־הַשָּׁמַיִםthe heavensוְאֶת־הָאָרֶץ׃and the earth.

   And the Gods concluded upon the seventh time, because that on the seventh time they would rest from all their works which they (the Gods) counseled among themselves to form; and sanctified it. And thus were their decisions at the time that they counseled among themselves to form the heavens and the earth.

   וַיֵּרְדוּAnd came downהָאֱלֹהִיםthe Godsוַיָּצְרוּand formedאֵלֶּהtheseתּוֹלְדוֹתthe generations ofהַשָּׁמַיִםthe heavensוְהָאָרֶץand of the earth,בְּהִוָּצְרָםwhen they were formed,בְּיוֹםin the dayאֲשֶׁרthatיָצְרוּformedהָאֱלֹהִיםthe Godsאֶרֶץthe earthוְשָׁמָיִם׃and the heavens,

   And the Gods came down and formed these the generations of the heavens and of the earth, when they were formed in the day that the Gods formed the earth and the heavens,

   כְּפִיaccording toכׇּל־אֲשֶׁרall that whichדִּבְּרוּthey had saidעַל־כׇּל־שִׂיחַconcerning every plant ofהַשָּׂדֶהthe fieldבְּטֶרֶםbeforeיִהְיֶהit wasבָאָרֶץin the earth,וְעַל־כׇּל־עֵשֶׂבand every herb ofהַשָּׂדֶהthe fieldבְּטֶרֶםbeforeיִצְמָחit grew;כִּיforלֹאnotהִמְטִירוּhad caused it to rainהָאֱלֹהִיםthe Godsעַל־הָאָרֶץupon the earthבְּהִוָּעֲצָםwhen they counseledלַעֲשׂוֹתָםto do them,וְלֹאand notיָצְרוּhad formedאָדָםa manלַעֲבֹדto tillאֶת־הָאֲדָמָה׃the ground.

   According to all that which they had said concerning every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew; for the Gods had not caused it to rain upon the earth when they counseled to do them, and had not formed a man to till the ground.

6. 6

   וְאֵדBut a mistעָלָהwent upמִן־הָאָרֶץfrom the earth,וְהִשְׁקָהand wateredאֶת־כׇּל־פְּנֵיthe whole face ofהָאֲדָמָה׃the ground.

   But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.

7. 7

   וַיִּיצְרוּAnd formedהָאֱלֹהִיםthe Godsאֶת־הָאָדָםmanעָפָרof dustמִן־הָאֲדָמָהfrom the ground,וַיִּקְחוּand they tookאֶת־רוּחוֹhis spiritהִיאthat is,רוּחַthe spirit ofהָאָדָםthe man,וַיָּשִׂימוּand putאֹתָהּitבְּקִרְבּוֹinto him;וַיִּפְּחוּand they breathedבְאַפָּיוinto his nostrilsנִשְׁמַתthe breath ofחַיִּיםlife,וַיְהִיand becameהָאָדָםmanלְנֶפֶשׁa soulחַיָּה׃living.

   And the Gods formed man from the dust of the ground, and took his spirit (that is, the man's spirit), and put it into him; and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul.

8. 8

   וַיִּטְּעוּAnd plantedהָאֱלֹהִיםthe Godsגַּןa garden,בְּעֵדֶןin Eden,מִקֶּדֶםeastward;וַיָּשִׂימוּand they putשָׁםthereאֶת־הָאָדָםthe man,אֲשֶׁרwhoseרוּחוֹspiritשָׂמוּthey had putבַגּוּףinto the bodyאֲשֶׁרwhichיָצָרוּ׃they had formed.

   And the Gods planted a garden, eastward in Eden, and there they put the man, whose spirit they had put into the body which they had formed.

9. 9

   וַיַּצְמִיחוּAnd made to growהָאֱלֹהִיםthe Godsמִן־הָאֲדָמָהfrom the groundכׇּל־עֵץevery treeנֶחְמָדpleasantלְמַרְאֶהto the sightוְטוֹבand goodלְמַאֲכׇלfor food;וְעֵץthe tree ofהַחַיִּיםlife,גַּםalso,בְּתוֹךְin the midst ofהַגָּןthe garden,וְעֵץand the tree ofהַדַּעַתthe knowledge ofטוֹבgoodוָרָע׃and evil.

   And out of the ground made the Gods to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food; the tree of life, also, in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

10. 10

    וְנָהָרAnd a riverיֹצֵאran outמֵעֵדֶןof Eden,לְהַשְׁקוֹתto waterאֶת־הַגָּןthe garden,וּמִשָּׁםand from thenceיִפָּרֵדit was partedוְהָיָהand becameלְאַרְבָּעָהinto fourרָאשִׁים׃heads.

    There was a river running out of Eden, to water the garden, and from thence it was parted and became into four heads.

11. 11

    וַיִּקְחוּAnd tookהָאֱלֹהִיםthe Godsאֶת־הָאָדָםthe man,וַיָּשִׂימוּand putאֹתוֹhimבְגַן־עֵדֶןin the Garden of Eden,לְעׇבְדָהּto dress itוּלְשׇׁמְרָהּ׃and to keep it.

    And the Gods took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden, to dress it and to keep it.

12. 12

    וַיְצַוּוּAnd commandedהָאֱלֹהִיםthe Godsאֶת־הָאָדָםthe man,לֵאמֹרsaying:מִכֹּלOf everyעֵץ־הַגָּןtree of the gardenאָכֹלfreelyתֹּאכֵל׃you mayest eat;

    And the Gods commanded the man, saying: Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat,

13. 13

    וּמֵעֵץbut of the tree ofהַדַּעַתthe knowledge ofטוֹבgoodוָרָעand evil,לֹאnotתֹאכַלyou shall eatמִמֶּנּוּof it;כִּיforבְּעֵתin the timeאֲכׇלְךָthat you eatמִמֶּנּוּthereof,מוֹתsurelyתָּמוּתyou shall die.וַאֲנִיNow I,אַבְרָהָםAbraham,רָאִיתִיsawכִּיthatזֶהit wasכְּפִיafterזְמַןthe time ofיְהוָהthe Lord,אֲשֶׁרwhichהוּאwasכְּפִיafterזְמַןthe time ofקוֹלֹבKolob;כִּיforעֲדַיִןas yetלֹאnotשָׂמוּhad appointedהָאֱלֹהִיםthe Godsלְאָדָםunto Adamאֶת־חֶשְׁבּוֹנוֹ׃his reckoning.

    But of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it; for in the time that thou eatest thereof, thou shalt surely die. Now I, Abraham, saw that it was after the Lord's time, which was after the time of Kolob; for as yet the Gods had not appointed unto Adam his reckoning.

14. 14

    וַיֹּאמְרוּAnd saidהָאֱלֹהִיםthe Gods:נַעֲשֶׂהLet us makeעֵזֶרan helpכְּנֶגְדּוֹmeetלָאָדָםfor the man,כִּיforלֹא־טוֹבit is not goodהֱיוֹתthat beהָאָדָםthe manלְבַדּוֹalone,לָכֵןthereforeנִיצֹרwe will formלוֹfor himעֵזֶרan helpכְּנֶגְדּוֹ׃meet for him.

    And the Gods said: Let us make an help meet for the man, for it is not good that the man should be alone, therefore we will form an help meet for him.

15. 15

    וַיַּפִּילוּAnd caused to fallהָאֱלֹהִיםthe Godsתַּרְדֵּמָהa deep sleepעַל־הָאָדָםupon Adam;וַיִּישָׁןand he slept,וַיִּקְחוּand they tookאַחַתoneמִצַּלְעֹתָיוof his ribs,וַיִּסְגְּרוּand closed upבָּשָׂרthe fleshתַּחְתֶּנָּה׃in the stead thereof;

    And the Gods caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam; and he slept, and they took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in the stead thereof;

16. 16

    וּמִן־הַצֵּלָעAnd of the ribאֲשֶׁרwhichלָקְחוּhad takenהָאֱלֹהִיםthe Godsמִן־הָאָדָםfrom man,יָצְרוּformed theyאִשָּׁהa woman,וַיְבִיאוּand broughtאֹתָהּherאֶל־הָאָדָם׃unto the man.

    And of the rib which the Gods had taken from man, formed they a woman, and brought her unto the man.

17. 17

    וַיֹּאמֶרAnd saidהָאָדָםAdam:זֹאתThisהַפַּעַםwas nowעֶצֶםboneמֵעֲצָמַיof my bones,וּבָשָׂרand fleshמִבְּשָׂרִיof my flesh;עַתָּהnowלְזֹאתsheיִקָּרֵאshall be calledאִשָּׁהWoman,כִּיbecauseמֵאִישׁout of manלֻקְחָה־זֹּאת׃she was taken.

    And Adam said: This was bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh; now she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of man;

18. 18

    עַל־כֵּןThereforeיַעֲזׇב־אִישׁshall a man leaveאֶת־אָבִיוhis fatherוְאֶת־אִמּוֹand his mother,וְדָבַקand shall cleaveבְּאִשְׁתּוֹunto his wife,וְהָיוּand they shall beלְבָשָׂרfleshאֶחָד׃one.

    Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife, and they shall be one flesh.

19. 19

    וַיִּהְיוּAnd wereשְׁנֵיהֶםbothעֲרוּמִּיםnaked,הָאָדָםthe manוְאִשְׁתּוֹand his wife,וְלֹאand notיִתְבֹּשָׁשׁוּ׃were they ashamed.

    And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

20. 20

    וּמִן־הָאֲדָמָהAnd out of the groundיָצְרוּformedהָאֱלֹהִיםthe Godsכׇּל־חַיַּתevery beast ofהַשָּׂדֶהthe field,וְאֵתandכׇּל־עוֹףevery fowl ofהַשָּׁמַיִםthe air,וַיָּבִיאוּand brought themאֶל־הָאָדָםunto Adamלִרְאוֹתto seeמַה־יִּקְרָאwhat he would callלוֹthem;וְכֹלand whatsoeverאֲשֶׁרthatיִקְרָאcalledלוֹunto itהָאָדָםAdamנֶפֶשׁcreatureחַיָּהliving,הוּאthat wasשְׁמוֹ׃the name thereof.

    And out of the ground the Gods formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air, and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them; and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that should be the name thereof.

21. 21

    וַיִּקְרָאAnd gaveהָאָדָםAdamשֵׁמוֹתnamesלְכׇל־הַבְּהֵמָהto all cattle,וּלְעוֹףto the fowl ofהַשָּׁמַיִםthe air,וּלְכֹלto everyחַיַּתbeast ofהַשָּׂדֶהthe field;וּלְאָדָםand for Adam,נִמְצָאthere was foundעֵזֶרan helpכְּנֶגְדּוֹ׃meet for him.

    And Adam gave names to all cattle, to the fowl of the air, to every beast of the field; and for Adam, there was found an help meet for him.
