Song of Songs 8 שִׁיר הַשִּׁירִים פרק ח׳

1. 1

   מִיwhoיִתֶּנְךָhe will make youכְּאָחlike a brotherלִיto meיוֹנֵקthe nursing childשְׁדֵיthe breasts ofאִמִּיmy motherאֶמְצָאֲךָI will find youבַחוּץon the outsideאֶשָּׁקְךָI would kiss youגַּםalsoלֹא־יָבֻזוּnot they despiseלִי׃to me

   O that thou wert as my brother, that sucked the breasts of my mother! when I should find thee without, I would kiss thee; yea, I should not be despised.

2. 2

   אֶנְהָגְךָI will lead youאֲבִיאֲךָI will bring youאֶל־בֵּיתto the house ofאִמִּיmy motherתְּלַמְּדֵנִיwho she taught meאַשְׁקְךָI will give to drink youמִיַּיִןfrom wineהָרֶקַחthe spiceמֵעֲסִיסsome of the juice ofרִמֹּנִי׃my pomegranate

   I would lead thee, and bring thee into my mother's house, who would instruct me: I would cause thee to drink of spiced wine of the juice of my pomegranate.

   שְׂמֹאלוֹhis left handתַּחַתunderרֹאשִׁיmy headוִימִינוֹand his right handתְּחַבְּקֵנִי׃it embraces me

   His left hand should be under my head, and his right hand should embrace me.

4. 4

   הִשְׁבַּעְתִּיI adjureאֶתְכֶםyouבְּנוֹתthe daughters ofיְרוּשָׁלָ͏ִםJerusalemמַה־תָּעִירוּwhat you will awakenוּמַה־תְּעֹרְרוּyea and what will you arouseאֶת־הָאַהֲבָהthe loveעַדuntilשֶׁתֶּחְפָּץ׃that it will please

   I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem, that ye stir not up, nor awake my love, until he please.

   מִיwhoזֹאתthisעֹלָהcoming upמִן־הַמִּדְבָּרfrom the wildernessמִתְרַפֶּקֶתleaning herselfעַל־דּוֹדָהּupon her loverתַּחַתunderהַתַּפּוּחַthe apple treeעוֹרַרְתִּיךָI aroused youשָׁמָּהthereחִבְּלַתְךָshe was in labor with youאִמֶּךָyour motherשָׁמָּהthereחִבְּלָהshe was in laborיְלָדַתְךָ׃bore you

   Who is this that cometh up from the wilderness, leaning upon her beloved? I raised thee up under the apple tree: there thy mother brought thee forth: there she brought thee forth that bare thee.

   שִׂימֵנִיput meכַחוֹתָםlike sealעַל־לִבֶּךָupon your heartכַּחוֹתָםlike sealעַל־זְרוֹעֶךָupon your armכִּי־עַזָּהfor strongכַמָּוֶתlike the deathאַהֲבָהloveקָשָׁהhardכִשְׁאוֹלlike Sheolקִנְאָהjealousyרְשָׁפֶיהָits flashesרִשְׁפֵּיflashes ofאֵשׁfireשַׁלְהֶבֶתְיָה׃a flame of the Lord

   Set me as a seal upon thine heart, as a seal upon thine arm: for love is strong as death; jealousy is cruel as the grave: the coals thereof are coals of fire, which hath a most vehement flame.

   מַיִםwaterרַבִּיםmanyלֹאnotיוּכְלוּcould theyלְכַבּוֹתto extinguishאֶת־הָאַהֲבָהthe loveוּנְהָרוֹתand riversלֹאnotיִשְׁטְפוּהָthey would overrun itאִם־יִתֵּןif shall giveאִישׁa manאֶת־כׇּל־הוֹןall wealthבֵּיתוֹhis houseבָּאַהֲבָהfor loveבּוֹזutterlyיָבוּזוּpeople despiseלוֹ׃to him

   Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it: if a man would give all the substance of his house for love, it would utterly be contemned.

8. 8

   אָחוֹתa sisterלָנוּto usקְטַנָּהlittleוְשָׁדַיִםand breastsאֵיןthere is noלָהּto herמַה־נַּעֲשֶׂהwhat shall we doלַאֲחֹתֵנוּfor our sisterבַּיּוֹםin the dayשֶׁיְּדֻבַּר־בָּהּ׃when it will be spoken in it

   We have a little sister, and she hath no breasts: what shall we do for our sister in the day when she shall be spoken for?

9. 9

   אִם־חוֹמָהif a wallהִיאit isנִבְנֶהwe will buildעָלֶיהָupon itטִירַתa battlement ofכָּסֶףsilverוְאִם־דֶּלֶתand if is a doorהִיאit isנָצוּרwe will encloseעָלֶיהָupon itלוּחַboards ofאָרֶז׃cedar

   If she be a wall, we will build upon her a palace of silver: and if she be a door, we will inclose her with boards of cedar.

10. 10

    אֲנִיIחוֹמָהa wallוְשָׁדַיand my breastsכַּמִּגְדָּלוֹתare like towersאָזthenהָיִיתִיI wasבְעֵינָיוin his eyesכְּמוֹצְאֵתlike one who findsשָׁלוֹם׃peace

    I am a wall, and my breasts like towers: then was I in his eyes as one that found favour.

11. 11

    כֶּרֶםa vineyardהָיָהwasלִשְׁלֹמֹהto Solomonבְּבַעַלat Baal-הָמוֹןhamonנָתַןgaveאֶת־הַכֶּרֶםthe vineyardלַנֹּטְרִיםto the ones who keepאִישׁa manיָבִאhe will bringבְּפִרְיוֹfor its fruitאֶלֶףthousandכָּסֶף׃silver

    Solomon had a vineyard at Baal-hamon; he let out the vineyard unto keepers; every one for the fruit thereof was to bring a thousand pieces of silver.

12. 12

    כַּרְמִיmy vineyardשֶׁלִּיwhich to meלְפָנָיbefore meהָאֶלֶףthe one thousandלְךָfor youשְׁלֹמֹהSolomonוּמָאתַיִםand two hundredלְנֹטְרִיםto those who keepאֶת־פִּרְיוֹ׃his fruit

    My vineyard, which is mine, is before me: thou, O Solomon, must have a thousand, and those that keep the fruit thereof two hundred.

13. 13

    הַיּוֹשֶׁבֶתthe inhabitant ofבַּגַּנִּיםin the gardensחֲבֵרִיםthe companionsמַקְשִׁיבִיםare listeningלְקוֹלֵךְfor your voiceהַשְׁמִיעִנִי׃make hear me

    Thou that dwellest in the gardens, the companions hearken to thy voice: cause me to hear it.

14. 14

    בְּרַחfleeדּוֹדִיmy belovedוּדְמֵה־לְךָand be like for youלִצְבִיto a deerאוֹorלְעֹפֶרthe fawn ofהָאַיָּלִיםthe deerעַלuponהָרֵיthe mountains ofבְשָׂמִים׃spices

    Make haste, my beloved, and be thou like to a roe or to a young hart upon the mountains of spices.
