    עַל־נַהֲרוֹתby the rivers ofבָּבֶלBabylonשָׁםthereיָשַׁבְנוּwe sat downגַּם־בָּכִינוּyea we weptבְּזׇכְרֵנוּwhen we rememberedאֶת־צִיּוֹן׃Zion

    By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, yea, we wept, when we remembered Zion.

    עַל־עֲרָבִיםupon the willowsבְּתוֹכָהּin its midstתָּלִינוּwe hanged upכִּנֹּרוֹתֵינוּ׃our harps

    We hanged our harps upon the willows in the midst thereof.

    כִּיforשָׁםthereשְׁאֵלוּנוּrequired of usשׁוֹבֵינוּthose who carried us away captiveדִּבְרֵי־שִׁירthe words of a songוְתוֹלָלֵינוּand those who tormented usשִׂמְחָהmirthשִׁירוּsingלָנוּto usמִשִּׁירone of the songs ofצִיּוֹן׃Zion

    For there they that carried us away captive required of us a song; and they that wasted us required of us mirth, saying, Sing us one of the songs of Zion.

    אֵיךְhowנָשִׁירshall we singאֶת־שִׁיר־יְהֹוָהthe LORD's songעַלinאַדְמַתthe land ofנֵכָר׃a stranger

    How shall we sing the LORD's song in a strange land?

    אִם־אֶשְׁכָּחֵךְif I forget youיְרוּשָׁלָ͏ִםO Jerusalemתִּשְׁכַּחlet forget her cunningיְמִינִי׃my right hand

    If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget her cunning.

    תִּדְבַּק־לְשׁוֹנִיlet my tongue cleaveלְחִכִּיto the roof of my mouthאִם־לֹאif I do notאֶזְכְּרֵכִיremember youאִם־לֹאif I do notאַעֲלֶהsetאֶת־יְרוּשָׁלַ͏ִםJerusalemעַלaboveרֹאשׁthe chief ofשִׂמְחָתִי׃my joy

    If I do not remember thee, let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth; if I prefer not Jerusalem above my chief joy.

    זְכֹרrememberיְהֹוָהO LORDלִבְנֵיagainst the children ofאֱדוֹםEdomאֵת־יוֹםthe day ofיְרוּשָׁלָ͏ִםJerusalemהָאֹמְרִיםwho saidעָרוּraze itעָרוּraze itעַדuntilהַיְסוֹדthe foundationבָּהּ׃thereof

    Remember, O LORD, the children of Edom in the day of Jerusalem; who said, Rase it, rase it, even to the foundation thereof.

    בַּת־בָּבֶלO daughter of Babylonהַשְּׁדוּדָהwho are to be destroyedאַשְׁרֵיhappy shall he beשֶׁיְשַׁלֶּם־לָךְwho repays youאֶת־גְּמוּלֵךְyour recompenseשֶׁגָּמַלְתְּthat you have servedלָנוּ׃to us

    O daughter of Babylon, who art to be destroyed; happy shall he be, that rewardeth thee as thou hast served us.

    אַשְׁרֵיhappy shall he beשֶׁיֹּאחֵזwho takesוְנִפֵּץand dashesאֶת־עֹלָלַיִךְyour little onesאֶל־הַסָּלַע׃against the rock

    Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones.
