Proverbs 5 מִשְׁלֵי פרק ה׳

1. 1

   בְּנִיmy sonלְחׇכְמָתִיto my wisdomהַקְשִׁיבָהpay attentionלִתְבוּנָתִיto my understandingהַט־אׇזְנֶךָ׃incline your ear

   My son, attend unto my wisdom, and bow thine ear to my understanding:

2. 2

   לִשְׁמֹרto keepמְזִמּוֹתdiscretionוְדַעַתand knowledgeשְׂפָתֶיךָyour lipsיִנְצֹרוּ׃may keep

   That thou mayest regard discretion, and that thy lips may keep knowledge.

3. 3

   כִּיforנֹפֶתhoneycombתִּטֹּפְנָהthey dripשִׂפְתֵיthe lips ofזָרָהstrangeוְחָלָקand is smoothמִשֶּׁמֶןsome of the oil ofחִכָּהּ׃her mouth

   For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil:

   וְאַחֲרִיתָהּand her endמָרָהbitterכַלַּעֲנָהlike the wormwoodחַדָּהsharpכְּחֶרֶבas a swordפִּיּוֹת׃mouths

   But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a twoedged sword.

5. 5

   רַגְלֶיהָher feetיֹרְדוֹתare going downמָוֶתdeathשְׁאוֹלSheolצְעָדֶיהָher stepsיִתְמֹכוּ׃they take hold of

   Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on hell.

6. 6

   אֹרַחthe path ofחַיִּיםlifeפֶּן־תְּפַלֵּסlest you should ponderנָעוּthey are moveableמַעְגְּלֹתֶיהָher tracksלֹאnotתֵדָע׃you shall know

   Lest thou shouldest ponder the path of life, her ways are moveable, that thou canst not know them.

7. 7

   וְעַתָּהand nowבָנִיםsonsשִׁמְעוּ־לִיhear to meוְאַל־תָּסוּרוּand do not departמֵאִמְרֵי־פִי׃from the words of my mouth

   Hear me now therefore, O ye children, and depart not from the words of my mouth.

8. 8

   הַרְחֵקfar awayמֵעָלֶיהָfrom on herדַרְכֶּךָyour wayוְאַל־תִּקְרַבand come not nighאֶל־פֶּתַחto the door ofבֵּיתָהּ׃her house

   Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house:

   פֶּן־תִּתֵּןlest you giveלַאֲחֵרִיםto othersהוֹדֶךָyour splendorוּשְׁנֹתֶיךָand your yearsלְאַכְזָרִי׃to a cruel person

   Lest thou give thine honour unto others, and thy years unto the cruel:

10. 10

    פֶּן־יִשְׂבְּעוּlest they will be satisfiedזָרִיםstrangersכֹּחֶךָyour strengthוַעֲצָבֶיךָand your laborsבְּבֵיתin the house ofנׇכְרִי׃strange

    Lest strangers be filled with thy wealth; and thy labours be in the house of a stranger;

11. 11

    וְנָהַמְתָּand you will groanבְאַחֲרִיתֶךָat your endבִּכְלוֹתwhen is consumedבְּשָׂרְךָyour fleshוּשְׁאֵרֶךָ׃and your body

    And thou mourn at the last, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed,

12. 12

    וְאָמַרְתָּand sayאֵיךְhowשָׂנֵאתִיI have hatedמוּסָרdisciplineוְתוֹכַחַתand rebukeנָאַץit spurnedלִבִּי׃my heart

    And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof;

13. 13

    וְלֹא־שָׁמַעְתִּיand not heardבְּקוֹלthe voice ofמוֹרָיmy teachersוְלִמְלַמְּדַיand to those who instructed meלֹא־הִטִּיתִיnot I inclinedאׇזְנִי׃my ear

    And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me!

14. 14

    כִּמְעַטnearlyהָיִיתִיI wasבְכׇל־רָעin all evilבְּתוֹךְamongקָהָלthe congregationוְעֵדָה׃and assembly

    I was almost in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly.

15. 15

    שְׁתֵה־מַיִםdrink waterמִבּוֹרֶךָfrom your own cisternוְנֹזְלִיםand streamsמִתּוֹךְfrom the midst ofבְּאֵרֶךָ׃your own well

    Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well.

16. 16

    יָפוּצוּbe scatteredמַעְיְנֹתֶיךָyour springsחוּצָהoutsideבָּרְחֹבוֹתin the open placesפַּלְגֵי־מָיִם׃streams of water

    Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of waters in the streets.

17. 17

    יִהְיוּ־לְךָshall be for youלְבַדֶּךָto you aloneוְאֵיןand there is noלְזָרִיםto strangersאִתָּךְ׃with you

    Let them be only thine own, and not strangers' with thee.

18. 18

    יְהִי־מְקוֹרְךָlet your fountain beבָרוּךְblessedוּשְׂמַחand joyמֵאֵשֶׁתfrom the wife ofנְעוּרֶךָ׃your youth

    Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.

19. 19

    אַיֶּלֶתthe doe ofאֲהָבִיםlovesוְיַעֲלַת־חֵןand a pleasant roeדַּדֶּיהָher breastsיְרַוֻּךָmay they satisfy youבְכׇל־עֵתin all timeבְּאַהֲבָתָהּby her loveתִּשְׁגֶּהmay you be ravishedתָמִיד׃continually

    Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love.

20. 20

    וְלָמָּהand whyתִשְׁגֶּהwill you go astrayבְנִיmy sonבְזָרָהwith a strange womanוּתְחַבֵּקmay you embraceחֵקthe bosom ofנׇכְרִיָּה׃foreign

    And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger?

21. 21

    כִּיforנֹכַחopposite toעֵינֵיthe eyes ofיְהֹוָהthe LORDדַּרְכֵי־אִישׁthe ways of a manוְכׇל־מַעְגְּלֹתָיוand all his tracksמְפַלֵּס׃he is making level

    For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and he pondereth all his goings.

22. 22

    עֲווֹנֹתָיוhis own iniquitiesיִלְכְּדֻנוֹthey will seize himאֶת־הָרָשָׁעthe wickedוּבְחַבְלֵיand by the cords ofחַטָּאתוֹhis sinיִתָּמֵךְ׃he will be held

    His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins.

23. 23

    הוּאheיָמוּתhe shall dieבְּאֵיןfor lack ofמוּסָרdisciplineוּבְרֹבand in the greatness ofאִוַּלְתּוֹhis foolishnessיִשְׁגֶּה׃he shall go astray

    He shall die without instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.
