1. 1

   אַל־תְּקַנֵּאbe not enviousבְּאַנְשֵׁיthe men ofרָעָהevilוְאַל־תִּתְאָוand desire notלִהְיוֹתto beאִתָּם׃with them

   Be not thou envious against evil men, neither desire to be with them.

2. 2

   כִּי־שֹׁדfor destructionיֶהְגֶּהstudiesלִבָּםtheir heartsוְעָמָלand mischiefשִׂפְתֵיהֶםtheir lipsתְּדַבֵּרְנָה׃they will speak

   For their heart studieth destruction, and their lips talk of mischief.

   בְּחׇכְמָהin wisdomיִבָּנֶהis buildedבָּיִתa houseוּבִתְבוּנָהand with understandingיִתְכּוֹנָן׃it is established

   Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established:

   וּבְדַעַתand with knowledgeחֲדָרִיםroomsיִמָּלְאוּshall be filledכׇּל־הוֹןall wealthיָקָרpreciousוְנָעִים׃and pleasant

   And by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches.

5. 5

   גֶּבֶר־חָכָםa man wiseבַּעוֹזis strongוְאִישׁ־דַּעַתand a man of knowledgeמְאַמֶּץ־כֹּחַ׃increases strength

   A wise man is strong; yea, a man of knowledge increaseth strength.

6. 6

   כִּיforבְתַחְבֻּלוֹתby wise directionsתַּעֲשֶׂה־לְּךָyou shall make for yourselfמִלְחָמָהwarוּתְשׁוּעָהand safetyבְּרֹבin the multitude ofיוֹעֵץ׃counselors

   For by wise counsel thou shalt make thy war: and in multitude of counsellors there is safety.

   רָאמוֹתtoo highלֶאֱוִילa foolחׇכְמוֹתwisdomבַּשַּׁעַרby the gateלֹאnotיִפְתַּח־פִּיהוּ׃he opens his mouth

   Wisdom is too high for a fool: he openeth not his mouth in the gate.

8. 8

   מְחַשֵּׁבone who plansלְהָרֵעַto do evilלוֹto himבַּעַל־מְזִמּוֹתa master of devicesיִקְרָאוּ׃they shall call

   He that deviseth to do evil shall be called a mischievous person.

9. 9

   זִמַּתa plan ofאִוֶּלֶתfoolishnessחַטָּאתsinוְתוֹעֲבַתand an abomination ofלְאָדָםto manלֵץ׃scorner

   The thought of foolishness is sin: and the scorner is an abomination to men.

10. 10

    הִתְרַפִּיתָyou have shown yourself without courageבְּיוֹםin the day ofצָרָהafflictionצַרis smallכֹּחֶכָה׃your strength

    If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.

11. 11

    הַצֵּלdeliverלְקֻחִיםthose being takenלַמָּוֶתunto deathוּמָטִיםand those who are staggeringלַהֶרֶגto the slaughterאִם־תַּחְשׂוֹךְ׃if you will restrain

    If thou forbear to deliver them that are drawn unto death, and those that are ready to be slain;

    כִּי־תֹאמַרthat you sayהֵןbeholdלֹא־יָדַעְנוּnot we knowזֶהthisהֲלֹא־תֹכֵןis it not one who weighsלִבּוֹתthe hearts ofהוּא־יָבִיןdoes he not considerוְנֹצֵרand one who guardsנַפְשְׁךָyour soulהוּאheיֵדָעdoes he knowוְהֵשִׁיבand shall renderלְאָדָםto manכְּפׇעֳלוֹ׃according to his work

    If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not; doth not he that pondereth the heart consider it? and he that keepeth thy soul, doth not he know it? and shall not he render to every man according to his works?

13. 13

    אֱכׇל־בְּנִיeat my sonדְבַשׁhoneyכִּי־טוֹבbecause it is goodוְנֹפֶתand the honeycombמָתוֹקsweetעַל־חִכֶּךָ׃upon your palate

    My son, eat thou honey, because it is good; and the honeycomb, which is sweet to thy taste:

14. 14

    כֵּןthusדְּעֶהknowחׇכְמָהwisdomלְנַפְשֶׁךָfor your selfאִם־מָצָאתָif foundוְיֵשׁand there shall beאַחֲרִיתa rewardוְתִקְוָתְךָand your hopeלֹאnotתִכָּרֵת׃it will be cut off

    So shall the knowledge of wisdom be unto thy soul: when thou hast found it, then there shall be a reward, and thy expectation shall not be cut off.

15. 15

    אַל־תֶּאֱרֹבlay not waitרָשָׁעO wicked manלִנְוֵהto the habitation ofצַדִּיקrighteousאַל־תְּשַׁדֵּדspoil notרִבְצוֹ׃his resting place

    Lay not wait, O wicked man, against the dwelling of the righteous; spoil not his resting place:

16. 16

    כִּיforשֶׁבַעsevenיִפּוֹלshall fallצַדִּיקrighteousוָקָםand he will riseוּרְשָׁעִיםand wicked menיִכָּשְׁלוּshall fallבְרָעָה׃in distress

    For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.

17. 17

    בִּנְפֹלin fell(אויביך)[אוֹיִבְךָ]your enemyאַל־תִּשְׂמָחrejoice notוּבִכָּשְׁלוֹand when he stumblesאַל־יָגֵלlet not be gladלִבֶּךָ׃your heart

    Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth:

18. 18

    פֶּן־יִרְאֶהlest seesיְהֹוָהthe LORDוְרַעand it displeaseבְּעֵינָיוin his eyesוְהֵשִׁיבand he turns awayמֵעָלָיוfrom with himאַפּוֹ׃his wrath

    Lest the LORD see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him.

19. 19

    אַל־תִּתְחַרfret not yourselfבַּמְּרֵעִיםin the evil doersאַל־תְּקַנֵּאnor be enviousבָּרְשָׁעִים׃in the wicked men

    Fret not thyself because of evil men, neither be thou envious at the wicked;

20. 20

    כִּיforלֹא־תִהְיֶהthere shall be noאַחֲרִיתrewardלָרָעto the evilנֵרlampרְשָׁעִיםwicked menיִדְעָךְ׃it is extinguished

    For there shall be no reward to the evil man; the candle of the wicked shall be put out.

21. 21

    יְרָא־אֶת־יְהֹוָהfear the LORDבְּנִיmy sonוָמֶלֶךְand the kingעִם־שׁוֹנִיםwith those given to changeאַל־תִּתְעָרָב׃meddle not

    My son, fear thou the LORD and the king: and meddle not with them that are given to change:

22. 22

    כִּי־פִתְאֹםbecause suddenlyיָקוּםhe shall riseאֵידָםtheir disasterוּפִידand the ruin ofשְׁנֵיהֶםthe twoמִיwhoיוֹדֵעַ׃knows

    For their calamity shall rise suddenly; and who knoweth the ruin of them both?

23. 23

    גַּם־אֵלֶּהalso theseלַחֲכָמִיםbelong to the wiseהַכֵּר־פָּנִיםto have respect of personsבְּמִשְׁפָּטin judgmentבַּל־טוֹב׃not good

    These things also belong to the wise. It is not good to have respect of persons in judgment.

24. 24

    אֹמֵרhe who saysלְרָשָׁעwickedצַדִּיקrighteousאָתָּהyou areיִקְּבֻהוּlet them curse itעַמִּיםpeoplesיִזְעָמוּהוּthey will denounce himלְאֻמִּים׃nations

    He that saith unto the wicked, Thou art righteous; him shall the people curse, nations shall abhor him:

25. 25

    וְלַמּוֹכִיחִיםbut to those who rebukeיִנְעָםshall be delightוַעֲלֵיהֶםand upon themתָּבוֹאcome shallבִרְכַּת־טוֹב׃blessing of good

    But to them that rebuke him shall be delight, and a good blessing shall come upon them.

26. 26

    שְׂפָתַיִםlipsיִשָּׁקshall kissמֵשִׁיבhe who givesדְּבָרִיםwordsנְכֹחִים׃are right

    Every man shall kiss his lips that giveth a right answer.

27. 27

    הָכֵןprepareבַּחוּץabroadמְלַאכְתֶּךָyour workוְעַתְּדָהּand make ready itבַּשָּׂדֶהin the fieldלָךְto youאַחַרafterוּבָנִיתָand you will buildבֵיתֶךָ׃your house

    Prepare thy work without, and make it fit for thyself in the field; and afterwards build thine house.

28. 28

    אַל־תְּהִיdo not beעֵד־חִנָּםa witness without causeבְּרֵעֶךָin your neighborוַהֲפִתִּיתָand deceive notבִּשְׂפָתֶיךָ׃upon your lips

    Be not a witness against thy neighbour without cause; and deceive not with thy lips.

29. 29

    אַל־תֹּאמַרsay notכַּאֲשֶׁרasעָשָׂה־לִיhe did to meכֵּןthusאֶעֱשֶׂה־לּוֹI do upon himאָשִׁיבI will renderלָאִישׁto the manכְּפׇעֳלוֹ׃according to his work

    Say not, I will do so to him as he hath done to me: I will render to the man according to his work.

30. 30

    עַל־שְׂדֵהupon the field ofאִישׁ־עָצֵלthe slothful manעָבַרְתִּיI went byוְעַל־כֶּרֶםand upon a vineyardאָדָםmanחֲסַר־לֵב׃lacking sense

    I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding;

31. 31

    וְהִנֵּהand beholdעָלָהascendedכֻלּוֹit was allקִמְּשֹׂנִיםthornsכׇּסּוּhad coveredפָנָיוits faceחֲרֻלִּיםnettlesוְגֶדֶרand the wall ofאֲבָנָיוits stonesנֶהֱרָסָה׃it was broken down

    And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken down.

32. 32

    וָאֶחֱזֶהand I sawאָנֹכִיIאָשִׁיתI setלִבִּיmy heartרָאִיתִיI sawלָקַחְתִּיI have takenמוּסָר׃discipline

    Then I saw, and considered it well: I looked upon it, and received instruction.

33. 33

    מְעַטsomewhatשֵׁנוֹתsleepמְעַטsomewhatתְּנוּמוֹתslumberמְעַטsomewhatחִבֻּקfolding ofיָדַיִםboth handsלִשְׁכָּב׃to sleep

    Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:

34. 34

    וּבָא־מִתְהַלֵּךְso shall come as one that travelsרֵישֶׁךָyour povertyוּמַחְסֹרֶיךָand your wantכְּאִישׁas a manמָגֵן׃armed

    So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth; and thy want as an armed man.
