Nahum 3 נַחוּם פרק ג׳

1. 1

   הוֹיOעִירthe city ofדָּמִיםbloodכֻּלָּהּall of itכַּחַשׁlyingפֶּרֶקrobberyמְלֵאָהfullלֹאnotיָמִישׁdepartethטָרֶף׃prey

   Woe to the bloody city! it is all full of lies and robbery; the prey departeth not;

2. 2

   קוֹלthe voice ofשׁוֹטa scourgeוְקוֹלand the noise ofרַעַשׁthe rattling ofאוֹפָןa wheelוְסוּסand horsesדֹּהֵרpransingוּמֶרְכָּבָהand a chariotמְרַקֵּדָה׃jumping

   The noise of a whip, and the noise of the rattling of the wheels, and of the pransing horses, and of the jumping chariots.

   פָּרָשׁa horsemanמַעֲלֶהlifteth upוְלַהַבand the brightחֶרֶבthe sword ofוּבְרַקand the flash ofחֲנִיתspearוְרֹבand a multitude ofחָלָלone slainוְכֹבֶדand a great number ofפָּגֶרcorpsesוְאֵיןand there is noקֵצֶהendלַגְּוִיָּהto the bodies(יכשלו)[וְכָשְׁלוּ]and shall stumbleבִּגְוִיָּתָם׃over their bodies

   The horseman lifteth up both the bright sword and the glittering spear: and there is a multitude of slain, and a great number of carcases; and there is none end of their corpses; they stumble upon their corpses:

   מֵרֹבfrom the multitude ofזְנוּנֵיthe prostitutions ofזוֹנָהharlotטוֹבַתthe wellfavoredחֵןfavorבַּעֲלַתthe mistress ofכְּשָׁפִיםsorceriesהַמֹּכֶרֶתthe one who sellsגּוֹיִםnationsבִּזְנוּנֶיהָby her prostitutionוּמִשְׁפָּחוֹתand familiesבִּכְשָׁפֶיהָ׃by her sorceries

   Because of the multitude of the whoredoms of the wellfavoured harlot, the mistress of witchcrafts, that selleth nations through her whoredoms, and families through her witchcrafts.

   הִנְנִיbehold Iאֵלַיִךְinto youנְאֻםsaysיְהֹוָהthe LORDצְבָאוֹתof Hostsוְגִלֵּיתִיand I will uncoverשׁוּלַיִךְyour skirtsעַל־פָּנָיִךְupon your faceוְהַרְאֵיתִיand I will showגוֹיִםnationsמַעְרֵךְyour nakednessוּמַמְלָכוֹתand kingdomsקְלוֹנֵךְ׃your shame

   Behold, I am against thee, saith the LORD of hosts; and I will discover thy skirts upon thy face, and I will shew the nations thy nakedness, and the kingdoms thy shame.

6. 6

   וְהִשְׁלַכְתִּיand I will cast outעָלַיִךְupon youשִׁקֻּצִיםdetestable thingsוְנִבַּלְתִּיךְand I will treat with contempt youוְשַׂמְתִּיךְand I will make youכְּרֹאִי׃like a spectacle

   And I will cast abominable filth upon thee, and make thee vile, and will set thee as a gazingstock.

7. 7

   וְהָיָהand beכׇל־רֹאַיִךְall those who see youיִדּוֹדhe will fleeמִמֵּךְfrom youוְאָמַרand saidשׇׁדְּדָהis laid wasteנִינְוֵהNinevehמִיwhoיָנוּדwill bemoanלָהּto herמֵאַיִןwhenceאֲבַקֵּשׁshall I seekמְנַחֲמִיםcomfortersלָךְ׃to you

   And it shall come to pass, that all they that look upon thee shall flee from thee, and say, Nineveh is laid waste: who will bemoan her? whence shall I seek comforters for thee?

8. 8

   הֲתֵיטְבִיare you betterמִנֹּאthan Noאָמוֹןpopulousהַיֹּשְׁבָהthat was situatedבַּיְאֹרִיםamong the canalsמַיִםwaterסָבִיבall aroundלָהּto herאֲשֶׁר־חֵילwhose rampart wasיָםthe seaמִיָּםfrom the seaחוֹמָתָהּ׃its wall

   Art thou better than populous No, that was situate among the rivers, that had the waters round about it, whose rampart was the sea, and her wall was from the sea?

9. 9

   כּוּשׁEthiopiaעׇצְמָהwere her strengthוּמִצְרַיִםand Egyptוְאֵיןand there is noקֵצֶהendפּוּטPutוְלוּבִיםand the Libyansהָיוּwereבְּעֶזְרָתֵךְ׃your help

   Ethiopia and Egypt were her strength, and it was infinite; Put and Lubim were thy helpers.

10. 10

    גַּם־הִיאalso it isלַגֹּלָהto the exileהָלְכָהshe has goneבַשֶּׁבִיinto the bondageגַּםalsoעֹלָלֶיהָher childrenיְרֻטְּשׁוּshall be dashed to piecesבְּרֹאשׁin the top ofכׇּל־חוּצוֹתall the streetsוְעַל־נִכְבַּדֶּיהָand upon its honored peopleיַדּוּthey have castגוֹרָלa lotוְכׇל־גְּדוֹלֶיהָand all its great peopleרֻתְּקוּthey were boundבַזִּקִּים׃with the fetters

    Yet was she carried away, she went into captivity: her young children also were dashed in pieces at the top of all the streets: and they cast lots for her honourable men, and all her great men were bound in chains.

11. 11

    גַּם־אַתְּalso youתִּשְׁכְּרִיyou will become drunkתְּהִיlet it beנַעֲלָמָהyou shall be hidגַּם־אַתְּalso youתְּבַקְשִׁיyou will seekמָעוֹזstrengthמֵאוֹיֵב׃from an enemy

    Thou also shalt be drunken: thou shalt be hid, thou also shalt seek strength because of the enemy.

12. 12

    כׇּל־מִבְצָרַיִךְall your fortificationsתְּאֵנִיםfigsעִם־בִּכּוּרִיםwith the firstfruitsאִם־יִנּוֹעוּif they will be shakenוְנָפְלוּand they shall fallעַל־פִּיaccording toאוֹכֵל׃he eats

    All thy strong holds shall be like fig trees with the firstripe figs: if they be shaken, they shall even fall into the mouth of the eater.

13. 13

    הִנֵּהbeholdעַמֵּךְyour peopleנָשִׁיםwomenבְּקִרְבֵּךְin your midstלְאֹיְבַיִךְto your enemiesפָּתוֹחַsurelyנִפְתְּחוּshall be set wide openשַׁעֲרֵיthe gates ofאַרְצֵךְyour landאָכְלָהit consumedאֵשׁfireבְּרִיחָיִךְ׃your bars

    Behold, thy people in the midst of thee are women: the gates of thy land shall be set wide open unto thine enemies: the fire shall devour thy bars.

14. 14

    מֵיthe waters ofמָצוֹרsiege worksשַׁאֲבִי־לָךְdraw for youחַזְּקִיstrengthenמִבְצָרָיִךְyour strongholdsבֹּאִיgoבַטִּיטin the clayוְרִמְסִיand trampleבַחֹמֶרon the mortarהַחֲזִיקִיmake strongמַלְבֵּן׃a brick mold

    Draw thee waters for the siege, fortify thy strong holds: go into clay, and tread the morter, make strong the brickkiln.

15. 15

    שָׁםthereתֹּאכְלֵךְit will consume youאֵשׁfireתַּכְרִיתֵךְit will cut off youחֶרֶבthe sword ofתֹּאכְלֵךְit will consume youכַּיָּלֶקlike the cankerwormהִתְכַּבֵּדmake yourself numerousכַּיֶּלֶקlike the cankerwormהִתְכַּבְּדִיmake yourself numerousכָּאַרְבֶּה׃like the locusts

    There shall the fire devour thee; the sword shall cut thee off, it shall eat thee up like the cankerworm: make thyself many as the cankerworm, make thyself many as the locusts.

16. 16

    הִרְבֵּיתyou have multipliedרֹכְלַיִךְyour tradersמִכּוֹכְבֵיthan stars ofהַשָּׁמָיִםthe heavensיֶלֶקthe cankerwormפָּשַׁטspoilethוַיָּעֹף׃and he flew

    Thou hast multiplied thy merchants above the stars of heaven: the cankerworm spoileth, and flieth away.

17. 17

    מִנְּזָרַיִךְyour crownedכָּאַרְבֶּהlike locustsוְטַפְסְרַיִךְand your officialsכְּגוֹבas the greatגֹּבָיgrasshoppersהַחוֹנִיםthose which encampבַּגְּדֵרוֹתamong the wallsבְּיוֹםin the day ofקָרָהthe coldשֶׁמֶשׁthe sunזָרְחָהit has risenוְנוֹדַדand it fleesוְלֹא־נוֹדַעand not it became knownמְקוֹמוֹits own placeאַיָּם׃where they are

    Thy crowned are as the locusts, and thy captains as the great grasshoppers, which camp in the hedges in the cold day, but when the sun ariseth they flee away, and their place is not known where they are.

18. 18

    נָמוּslumberרֹעֶיךָyour herdsmenמֶלֶךְthe king ofאַשּׁוּרAssyriaיִשְׁכְּנוּshall dwellאַדִּירֶיךָyour noblesנָפֹשׁוּthey are scatteredעַמְּךָyour peopleעַל־הֶהָרִיםupon the mountainsוְאֵיןand there is noמְקַבֵּץ׃gathers

    Thy shepherds slumber, O king of Assyria: thy nobles shall dwell in the dust: thy people is scattered upon the mountains, and no man gathereth them.

19. 19

    אֵין־כֵּהָהthere is no healingלְשִׁבְרֶךָfor your fractureנַחְלָהis grievousמַכָּתֶךָyour woundכֹּלallשֹׁמְעֵיwho listen toשִׁמְעֲךָyour reportתָּקְעוּshall clapכַףthe handsעָלֶיךָupon youכִּיbecauseעַל־מִיto whomלֹא־עָבְרָהnot had passed awayרָעָתְךָyour evilתָּמִיד׃continually

    There is no healing of thy bruise; thy wound is grievous: all that hear the bruit of thee shall clap the hands over thee: for upon whom hath not thy wickedness passed continually?
