   Now Jephthah the Gileadite was a mighty man of valour, and he was the son of an harlot: and Gilead begat Jephthah.

   And Gilead's wife bare him sons; and his wife's sons grew up, and they thrust out Jephthah, and said unto him, Thou shalt not inherit in our father's house; for thou art the son of a strange woman.

   Then Jephthah fled from his brethren, and dwelt in the land of Tob: and there were gathered vain men to Jephthah, and went out with him.

   And it came to pass in process of time, that the children of Ammon made war against Israel.

   וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passכַּאֲשֶׁר־נִלְחֲמוּka/a/SHER-nil/cha/MUwhen foughtבְנֵי־עַמּוֹןve/NE-am/MONthe children of Ammonעִם־יִשְׂרָאֵלim-Yis/ra/ELagainst Israelוַיֵּלְכוּvay/yel/KHUthat wentזִקְנֵיzik/NEthe elders ofגִלְעָדGil/ADGileadלָקַחַתla/KA/chatto fetchאֶת־יִפְתָּחet-Yif/TACHJephthahמֵאֶרֶץme/E/retsfrom the land ofטוֹב׃TovTob

   And it was so, that when the children of Ammon made war against Israel, the elders of Gilead went to fetch Jephthah out of the land of Tob:

   וַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidלְיִפְתָּחle/Yif/TACHto Jephthahלְכָהle/KHAcomeוְהָיִיתָהve/ha/YI/taand beלָּנוּLA/nuourלְקָצִיןle/ka/TSINcommanderוְנִלָּחֲמָהve/nil/la/cha/MAthat we may fightבִּבְנֵיbiv/NEagainst the children ofעַמּוֹן׃Am/MONAmmon

   And they said unto Jephthah, Come, and be our captain, that we may fight with the children of Ammon.

   And Jephthah said unto the elders of Gilead, Did not ye hate me, and expel me out of my father's house? and why are ye come unto me now when ye are in distress?

   And the elders of Gilead said unto Jephthah, Therefore we turn again to thee now, that thou mayest go with us, and fight against the children of Ammon, and be our head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.

   And Jephthah said unto the elders of Gilead, If ye bring me home again to fight against the children of Ammon, and the LORD deliver them before me, shall I be your head?

    And the elders of Gilead said unto Jephthah, The LORD be witness between us, if we do not so according to thy words.

    וַיֵּלֶךְvay/YE/lekhand wentיִפְתָּחYif/TACHJephthahעִם־זִקְנֵיim-zik/NEwith the elders ofגִלְעָדGil/ADGileadוַיָּשִׂימוּvay/ya/SI/muand madeהָעָםha/AMthe peopleאוֹתוֹo/TOhimעֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMover themלְרֹאשׁle/ROSHheadוּלְקָצִיןu/le/ka/TSINand commanderוַיְדַבֵּרvay/dab/BERand spokeיִפְתָּחYif/TACHJephthahאֶת־כׇּל־דְּבָרָיוet-kol-de/va/RAYVall his wordsלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDבַּמִּצְפָּה׃bam/Mits/PAat Mizpah

    Then Jephthah went with the elders of Gilead, and the people made him head and captain over them: and Jephthah uttered all his words before the LORD in Mizpeh.

    וַיִּשְׁלַחvay/yish/LACHand sentיִפְתָּחYif/TACHJephthahמַלְאָכִיםmal/a/KHIMmessengersאֶל־מֶלֶךְel-ME/lekhto the king ofבְּנֵי־עַמּוֹןbe/NE-am/MONthe children of Ammonלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingמַה־לִּיma-liwhat to meוָלָךְva/LAKHand to youכִּי־בָאתָki-VA/tathat you have comeאֵלַיe/LAYagainst meלְהִלָּחֵםle/hil/la/CHEMto fightבְּאַרְצִי׃be/ar/TSIin my land

    And Jephthah sent messengers unto the king of the children of Ammon, saying, What hast thou to do with me, that thou art come against me to fight in my land?

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidמֶלֶךְME/lekhthe king ofבְּנֵי־עַמּוֹןbe/NE-am/MONthe children of Ammonאֶל־מַלְאֲכֵיel-mal/a/KHEto the messengers ofיִפְתָּחYif/TACHJephthahכִּי־לָקַחki-la/KACHbecause tookיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelאֶת־אַרְצִיet-ar/TSImy landבַּעֲלוֹתוֹba/a/lo/TOwhen he came upמִמִּצְרַיִםmim/Mits/RA/yimout of Egyptמֵאַרְנוֹןme/Ar/NONfrom the Arnonוְעַד־הַיַּבֹּקve/AD-hay/yab/BOKand to the Jabbokוְעַד־הַיַּרְדֵּןve/AD-hay/yar/DENand to the Jordanוְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowהָשִׁיבָהha/SHI/varestoreאֶתְהֶןet/HENthose landsבְּשָׁלוֹם׃be/sha/LOMpeaceably

    And the king of the children of Ammon answered unto the messengers of Jephthah, Because Israel took away my land, when they came up out of Egypt, from Arnon even unto Jabbok, and unto Jordan: now therefore restore those lands again peaceably.

    וַיּוֹסֶףvay/YO/sefand againעוֹדodonce moreיִפְתָּחYif/TACHJephthahוַיִּשְׁלַחvay/yish/LACHand sentמַלְאָכִיםmal/a/KHIMmessengersאֶל־מֶלֶךְel-ME/lekhto the king ofבְּנֵיbe/NEthe children ofעַמּוֹן׃Am/MONAmmon

    And Jephthah sent messengers again unto the king of the children of Ammon:

15. 15

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidלוֹloto himכֹּהkothusאָמַרa/MARsaysיִפְתָּחYif/TACHJephthahלֹא־לָקַחlo-la/KACHdid not takeיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelאֶת־אֶרֶץet-E/retsthe land ofמוֹאָבMo/AVMoabוְאֶת־אֶרֶץve/ET-E/retsand the land ofבְּנֵיbe/NEthe children ofעַמּוֹן׃Am/MONAmmon

    And said unto him, Thus saith Jephthah, Israel took not away the land of Moab, nor the land of the children of Ammon:

16. 16

    כִּיkibutבַּעֲלוֹתָםba/a/lo/TAMwhen they came upמִמִּצְרָיִםmim/Mits/RA/yimfrom Egyptוַיֵּלֶךְvay/YE/lekhand walkedיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelבַּמִּדְבָּרbam/mid/BARin the wildernessעַד־יַם־סוּףad-Yam-sufto the Red Seaוַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand cameקָדֵשָׁה׃Ka/DE/shato Kadesh

    But when Israel came up from Egypt, and walked through the wilderness unto the Red sea, and came to Kadesh;

17. 17

    וַיִּשְׁלַחvay/yish/LACHand sentיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelמַלְאָכִיםmal/a/KHIMmessengersאֶל־מֶלֶךְel-ME/lekhto the king ofאֱדוֹםE/DOMEdomלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingאֶעְבְּרָה־נָּאe/be/RA-nalet me pass I prayבְאַרְצֶךָve/ar/TSE/khathrough your landוְלֹאve/LObut notשָׁמַעsha/MAwould hearkenמֶלֶךְME/lekhthe king ofאֱדוֹםE/DOMEdomוְגַםve/GAMand alsoאֶל־מֶלֶךְel-ME/lekhto the king ofמוֹאָבMo/AVMoabשָׁלַחsha/LACHhe sentוְלֹאve/LObut notאָבָהa/VAwould consentוַיֵּשֶׁבvay/YE/shevand abodeיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelבְּקָדֵשׁ׃be/Ka/DESHin Kadesh

    Then Israel sent messengers unto the king of Edom, saying, Let me, I pray thee, pass through thy land: but the king of Edom would not hearken thereto. And in like manner they sent unto the king of Moab: but he would not consent: and Israel abode in Kadesh.

18. 18

    וַיֵּלֶךְvay/YE/lekhthen they wentבַּמִּדְבָּרbam/mid/BARthrough the wildernessוַיָּסׇבvay/YA/sovand went aroundאֶת־אֶרֶץet-E/retsthe land ofאֱדוֹםE/DOMEdomוְאֶת־אֶרֶץve/ET-E/retsand the land ofמוֹאָבMo/AVMoabוַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand cameמִמִּזְרַח־שֶׁמֶשׁmim/miz/RACH-SHE/meshfrom the rising of the sunלְאֶרֶץle/E/retsof the land ofמוֹאָבMo/AVMoabוַיַּחֲנוּןvay/ya/cha/NUNand encampedבְּעֵבֶרbe/E/verbeyondאַרְנוֹןAr/NONthe Arnonוְלֹא־בָאוּve/LO-VA/ubut did not comeבִּגְבוּלbig/VULwithin the border ofמוֹאָבMo/AVMoabכִּיkiforאַרְנוֹןAr/NONthe Arnonגְּבוּלge/VULwas the border ofמוֹאָב׃Mo/AVMoab

    Then they went along through the wilderness, and compassed the land of Edom, and the land of Moab, and came by the east side of the land of Moab, and pitched on the other side of Arnon, but came not within the border of Moab: for Arnon was the border of Moab.

    וַיִּשְׁלַחvay/yish/LACHand sentיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelמַלְאָכִיםmal/a/KHIMmessengersאֶל־סִיחוֹןel-Si/CHONto Sihonמֶלֶךְ־הָאֱמֹרִיME/lekh-Ha/e/mo/RIking of the AmoritesמֶלֶךְME/lekhking ofחֶשְׁבּוֹןChesh/BONHeshbonוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidלוֹloto himיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelנַעְבְּרָה־נָּאna/be/RA-nalet us pass I prayבְאַרְצְךָve/ar/tse/KHAthrough your landעַד־מְקוֹמִי׃ad-me/ko/MIto my place

    And Israel sent messengers unto Sihon king of the Amorites, the king of Heshbon; and Israel said unto him, Let us pass, we pray thee, through thy land into my place.

20. 20

    וְלֹא־הֶאֱמִיןve/LO-he/e/MINbut did not trustסִיחוֹןSi/CHONSihonאֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵלet-Yis/ra/ELIsraelעֲבֹרa/VORto passבִּגְבֻלוֹbig/vu/LOthrough his borderוַיֶּאֱסֹףvay/ye/e/SOFbut gatheredסִיחוֹןSi/CHONSihonאֶת־כׇּל־עַמּוֹet-kol-am/MOall his peopleוַיַּחֲנוּvay/ya/cha/NUand encampedבְּיָהְצָהbe/YAH/tsaat Jahazוַיִּלָּחֶםvay/yil/LA/chemand foughtעִם־יִשְׂרָאֵל׃im-Yis/ra/ELagainst Israel

    But Sihon trusted not Israel to pass through his coast: but Sihon gathered all his people together, and pitched in Jahaz, and fought against Israel.

    וַיִּתֵּןvay/yit/TENand deliveredיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֱלֹהֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵלe/lo/HE-Yis/ra/ELthe God of Israelאֶת־סִיחוֹןet-Si/CHONSihonוְאֶת־כׇּל־עַמּוֹve/ET-kol-am/MOand all his peopleבְּיַדbe/YADinto the hand ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelוַיַּכּוּםvay/yak/KUMand they struck themוַיִּירַשׁvay/yi/RASHand took possession ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelאֵת־כׇּל־אֶרֶץet-kol-E/retsall the land ofהָאֱמֹרִיha/E/mo/RIthe Amoritesיוֹשֵׁבyo/SHEVthe inhabitants ofהָאָרֶץha/A/retsthe landהַהִיא׃ha/HIthat

    And the LORD God of Israel delivered Sihon and all his people into the hand of Israel, and they smote them: so Israel possessed all the land of the Amorites, the inhabitants of that country.

    וַיִּירְשׁוּvay/yi/re/SHUand they took possession ofאֵת־כׇּל־גְּבוּלet-kol-ge/VULall the territory ofהָאֱמֹרִיha/E/mo/RIthe Amoritesמֵאַרְנוֹןme/Ar/NONfrom the Arnonוְעַד־הַיַּבֹּקve/AD-hay/yab/BOKand to the Jabbokוּמִן־הַמִּדְבָּרu/MIN-ham/mid/BARand from the wildernessוְעַד־הַיַּרְדֵּן׃ve/AD-hay/yar/DENand to the Jordan

    And they possessed all the coasts of the Amorites, from Arnon even unto Jabbok, and from the wilderness even unto Jordan.

23. 23

    וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֱלֹהֵיe/lo/HEthe God ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelהוֹרִישׁho/RISHdrove outאֶת־הָאֱמֹרִיet-Ha/e/mo/RIthe Amoritesמִפְּנֵיmip/pe/NEfrom beforeעַמּוֹam/MOHis peopleיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelוְאַתָּהve/at/TAand youתִּירָשֶׁנּוּ׃ti/ra/SHEN/nushould you possess it

    So now the LORD God of Israel hath dispossessed the Amorites from before his people Israel, and shouldest thou possess it?

24. 24

    הֲלֹאha/LOwill you notאֵת־אֲשֶׁרet-a/SHERwhatיוֹרִישְׁךָyo/ri/she/KHAgives you to possessכְּמוֹשׁKe/MOSHChemoshאֱלֹהֶיךָe/lo/HE/khayour godאוֹתוֹo/TOitתִירָשׁti/RASHpossessוְאֵתve/ETandכׇּל־אֲשֶׁרkol-a/SHERwhomeverהוֹרִישׁho/RISHhas driven outיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֱלֹהֵינוּe/lo/HE/nuour Godמִפָּנֵינוּmip/pa/NE/nufrom before usאוֹתוֹo/TOthemנִירָשׁ׃ni/RASHwill we possess

    Wilt not thou possess that which Chemosh thy god giveth thee to possess? So whomsoever the LORD our God shall drive out from before us, them will we possess.

25. 25

    וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowהֲטוֹבha/TOVare betterטוֹבtovbetterאַתָּהat/TAyouמִבָּלָקmib/Ba/LAKthan Balakבֶּן־צִפּוֹרben-Tsip/PORthe son of ZipporמֶלֶךְME/lekhthe king ofמוֹאָבMo/AVMoabהֲרוֹבha/ROVstriveרָבravdid he striveעִם־יִשְׂרָאֵלim-Yis/ra/ELagainst Israelאִם־נִלְחֹםim-nil/CHOMor fightנִלְחַםnil/CHAMdid he fightבָּם׃bamagainst them

    And now art thou any thing better than Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab? did he ever strive against Israel, or did he ever fight against them,

    בְּשֶׁבֶתbe/SHE/vetwhile dweltיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelבְּחֶשְׁבּוֹןbe/Chesh/BONin Heshbonוּבִבְנוֹתֶיהָu/viv/no/TE/haand its townsוּבְעַרְעוֹרu/ve/Ar/ORand in Aroerוּבִבְנוֹתֶיהָu/viv/no/TE/haand its townsוּבְכׇל־הֶעָרִיםu/ve/KHOL-he/a/RIMand in all the citiesאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthat areעַל־יְדֵיal-ye/DEby the banks ofאַרְנוֹןAr/NONthe Arnonשְׁלֹשׁshe/LOSHthreeמֵאוֹתme/OThundredשָׁנָהsha/NAyearsוּמַדּוּעַu/mad/DU/awhy thenלֹא־הִצַּלְתֶּםlo-hits/tsal/TEMdid you not recover themבָּעֵתba/ETat the timeהַהִיא׃ha/HIthat

    While Israel dwelt in Heshbon and her towns, and in Aroer and her towns, and in all the cities that be along by the coasts of Arnon, three hundred years? why therefore did ye not recover them within that time?

    וְאָנֹכִיve/a/no/KHIand Iלֹא־חָטָאתִיlo-cha/TA/tihave not sinnedלָךְlakhagainst youוְאַתָּהve/at/TAand youעֹשֶׂהo/SEare doingאִתִּיit/TIwith meרָעָהra/Awrongלְהִלָּחֶםle/hil/LA/chemto fightבִּיbiagainst meיִשְׁפֹּטyish/POTmay judgeיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDהַשֹּׁפֵטhash/sho/FETthe judgeהַיּוֹםhay/YOMthis dayבֵּיןbenbetweenבְּנֵיbe/NEthe children ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelוּבֵיןu/VENand betweenבְּנֵיbe/NEthe children ofעַמּוֹן׃Am/MONAmmon

    Wherefore I have not sinned against thee, but thou doest me wrong to war against me: the LORD the Judge be judge this day between the children of Israel and the children of Ammon.

    וְלֹאve/LObut notשָׁמַעsha/MAhearkenedמֶלֶךְME/lekhthe king ofבְּנֵיbe/NEthe children ofעַמּוֹןAm/MONAmmonאֶל־דִּבְרֵיel-div/REto the words ofיִפְתָּחYif/TACHJephthahאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichשָׁלַחsha/LACHhe sentאֵלָיו׃e/LAYVto him

    Howbeit the king of the children of Ammon hearkened not unto the words of Jephthah which he sent him.

    וַתְּהִיvat/te/HIthen cameעַל־יִפְתָּחal-Yif/TACHupon JephthahרוּחַRU/achthe Spirit ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDוַיַּעֲבֹרvay/ya/a/VORand he passed overאֶת־הַגִּלְעָדet-Hag/gil/ADGileadוְאֶת־מְנַשֶּׁהve/ET-me/nash/SHEand Manassehוַיַּעֲבֹרvay/ya/a/VORand he passed overאֶת־מִצְפֵּהet-Mits/PEMizpeh ofגִלְעָדGil/ADGileadוּמִמִּצְפֵּהu/Mim/mits/PEand from Mizpeh ofגִלְעָדGil/ADGileadעָבַרa/VARhe passed over toבְּנֵיbe/NEthe children ofעַמּוֹן׃Am/MONAmmon

    Then the Spirit of the LORD came upon Jephthah, and he passed over Gilead, and Manasseh, and passed over Mizpeh of Gilead, and from Mizpeh of Gilead he passed over unto the children of Ammon.

30. 30

    וַיִּדַּרvay/yid/DARand he vowedיִפְתָּחYif/TACHJephthahנֶדֶרNE/dera vowלַיהֹוָהla-Adonaito the LORDוַיֹּאמַרvay/yo/MARand saidאִם־נָתוֹןim-na/TONif giveתִּתֵּןtit/TENYou shall giveאֶת־בְּנֵיet-be/NEthe children ofעַמּוֹןAm/MONAmmonבְּיָדִי׃be/ya/DIinto my hand

    And Jephthah vowed a vow unto the LORD, and said, If thou shalt without fail deliver the children of Ammon into mine hands,

31. 31

    וְהָיָהve/ha/YAthen it shall beהַיּוֹצֵאhay/yo/TSEthat whatever comes outאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatיֵצֵאye/TSEcomes forthמִדַּלְתֵיmid/dal/TEfrom the doors ofבֵיתִיve/TImy houseלִקְרָאתִיlik/ra/TIto meet meבְּשׁוּבִיbe/shu/VIwhen I returnבְשָׁלוֹםve/sha/LOMin peaceמִבְּנֵיmib/be/NEfrom the children ofעַמּוֹןAm/MONAmmonוְהָיָהve/ha/YAshall beלַיהֹוָהla-Adonaithe LORD’sוְהַעֲלִיתִיהוּve/ha/a/li/TI/huand I will offer it upעֹלָה׃o/LAas a burnt offering

    Then it shall be, that whatsoever cometh forth of the doors of my house to meet me, when I return in peace from the children of Ammon, shall surely be the LORD's, and I will offer it up for a burnt offering.

32. 32

    וַיַּעֲבֹרvay/ya/a/VORso passed overיִפְתָּחYif/TACHJephthahאֶל־בְּנֵיel-be/NEto the children ofעַמּוֹןAm/MONAmmonלְהִלָּחֶםle/hil/LA/chemto fightבָּםbamagainst themוַיִּתְּנֵםvay/yit/te/NEMand delivered themיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDבְּיָדוֹ׃be/ya/DOinto his hand

    So Jephthah passed over unto the children of Ammon to fight against them; and the LORD delivered them into his hands.

33. 33

    וַיַּכֵּםvay/yak/KEMand he struck themמֵעֲרוֹעֵרme/A/ro/ERfrom Aroerוְעַד־בֹּאֲךָve/AD-bo/a/KHAuntil you come toמִנִּיתMin/NITMinnithעֶשְׂרִיםes/RIMtwentyעִירircitiesוְעַדve/ADand toאָבֵלA/VELAbel-כְּרָמִיםke/ra/MIMkeramimמַכָּהmak/KAwith a slaughterגְּדוֹלָהge/do/LAgreatמְאֹדme/ODveryוַיִּכָּנְעוּvay/yik/ka/ne/Uand were subduedבְּנֵיbe/NEthe children ofעַמּוֹןAm/MONAmmonמִפְּנֵיmip/pe/NEbeforeבְּנֵיbe/NEthe children ofיִשְׂרָאֵל׃Yis/ra/ELIsrael

    And he smote them from Aroer, even till thou come to Minnith, even twenty cities, and unto the plain of the vineyards, with a very great slaughter. Thus the children of Ammon were subdued before the children of Israel.

34. 34

    וַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand cameיִפְתָּחYif/TACHJephthahהַמִּצְפָּהham/Mits/PAto Mizpahאֶל־בֵּיתוֹel-be/TOto his houseוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdבִתּוֹvit/TOhis daughterיֹצֵאתyo/TSETcame outלִקְרָאתוֹlik/ra/TOto meet himבְּתֻפִּיםbe/tup/PIMwith tambourinesוּבִמְחֹלוֹתu/vim/cho/LOTand with dancesוְרַקve/RAKand onlyהִיאhishe wasיְחִידָהye/chi/DAhis only childאֵין־לוֹen-lohe had noמִמֶּנּוּmim/MEN/nuof his ownבֵּןbensonאוֹ־בַת׃o-vator daughter

    And Jephthah came to Mizpeh unto his house, and, behold, his daughter came out to meet him with timbrels and with dances: and she was his only child; beside her he had neither son nor daughter.

35. 35

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passכִרְאוֹתוֹkhir/o/TOwhen he sawאוֹתָהּo/TAherוַיִּקְרַעvay/yik/RAand he toreאֶת־בְּגָדָיוet-be/ga/DAYVhis garmentsוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֲהָהּa/HAalasבִּתִּיbit/TImy daughterהַכְרֵעַhakh/RE/abring lowהִכְרַעְתִּנִיhikh/ra/TI/niyou have brought me lowוְאַתְּve/ATTand youהָיִיתha/YITareבְּעֹכְרָיbe/okh/RAYamong those who trouble meוְאָנֹכִיve/a/no/KHIfor Iפָּצִיתִיpa/TSI/tihave openedפִיfimy mouthאֶל־יְהֹוָהel-Adonaito the LORDוְלֹאve/LOand notאוּכַלu/KHALI canלָשׁוּב׃la/SHUVgo back

    And it came to pass, when he saw her, that he rent his clothes, and said, Alas, my daughter! thou hast brought me very low, and thou art one of them that trouble me: for I have opened my mouth unto the LORD, and I cannot go back.

36. 36

    וַתֹּאמֶרvat/TO/merand saidאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himאָבִיa/VImy fatherפָּצִיתָהpa/TSI/tayou have openedאֶת־פִּיךָet-PI/khayour mouthאֶל־יְהֹוָהel-Adonaito the LORDעֲשֵׂהa/SEdoלִיlito meכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERaccording to whatיָצָאya/TSAhas gone outמִפִּיךָmip/PI/khafrom your mouthאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REsinceאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatעָשָׂהa/SAhas takenלְךָle/KHAfor youיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDנְקָמוֹתne/ka/MOTvengeanceמֵאֹיְבֶיךָme/oy/VE/khaon your enemiesמִבְּנֵיmib/be/NEon the children ofעַמּוֹן׃Am/MONAmmon

    And she said unto him, My father, if thou hast opened thy mouth unto the LORD, do to me according to that which hath proceeded out of thy mouth; forasmuch as the LORD hath taken vengeance for thee of thine enemies, even of the children of Ammon.

37. 37

    וַתֹּאמֶרvat/TO/merand saidאֶל־אָבִיהָel-a/VI/hato her fatherיֵעָשֶׂהye/a/SElet be doneלִּיlito meהַדָּבָרhad/da/VARthe thingהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisהַרְפֵּהhar/PElet aloneמִמֶּנִּיmim/MEN/nimeשְׁנַיִםshe/NA/yimtwoחֳדָשִׁיםcho/da/SHIMmonthsוְאֵלְכָהve/el/KHAthat I may goוְיָרַדְתִּיve/ya/rad/TIand go downעַל־הֶהָרִיםal-he/ha/RIMupon the mountainsוְאֶבְכֶּהve/ev/KEand bewailעַל־בְּתוּלַיal-be/tu/LAYmy virginityאָנֹכִיa/no/KHII[וְרֵעוֹתָי]׃ve/re/o/TAYand my companions

    And she said unto her father, Let this thing be done for me: let me alone two months, that I may go up and down upon the mountains, and bewail my virginity, I and my fellows.

38. 38

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidלֵכִיLE/khigoוַיִּשְׁלַחvay/yish/LACHand he sent awayאוֹתָהּo/TAherשְׁנֵיshe/NEfor twoחֳדָשִׁיםcho/da/SHIMmonthsוַתֵּלֶךְvat/TE/lekhand she wentהִיאhisheוְרֵעוֹתֶיהָve/re/o/TE/haand her companionsוַתֵּבְךְּvat/TEVKand bewailedעַל־בְּתוּלֶיהָal-be/tu/LE/haher virginityעַל־הֶהָרִים׃al-he/ha/RIMupon the mountains

    And he said, Go. And he sent her away for two months: and she went with her companions, and bewailed her virginity upon the mountains.

39. 39

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passמִקֵּץmik/KETSat the end ofשְׁנַיִםshe/NA/yimtwoחֳדָשִׁיםcho/da/SHIMmonthsוַתָּשׇׁבvat/TA/shovand she returnedאֶל־אָבִיהָel-a/VI/hato her fatherוַיַּעַשׂvay/YA/asand he didלָהּlawith herאֶת־נִדְרוֹet-nid/ROhis vowאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichנָדָרna/DARhe had vowedוְהִיאve/HIand sheלֹא־יָדְעָהlo-ya/de/Ahad not knownאִישׁisha manוַתְּהִי־חֹקvat/te/HI-chokand it became a customבְּיִשְׂרָאֵל׃be/Yis/ra/ELin Israel

    And it came to pass at the end of two months, that she returned unto her father, who did with her according to his vow which he had vowed: and she knew no man. And it was a custom in Israel,

40. 40

    מִיָּמִיםmiy/ya/MIMfrom yearיָמִימָהya/MI/mato yearתֵּלַכְנָהte/LAKH/nawentבְּנוֹתbe/NOTthe daughters ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelלְתַנּוֹתle/tan/NOTto lamentלְבַת־יִפְתָּחle/VAT-yif/TACHthe daughter of Jephthahהַגִּלְעָדִיhag/Gil/a/DIthe Gileaditeאַרְבַּעַתar/BA/atfourיָמִיםya/MIMdaysבַּשָּׁנָה׃bash/sha/NAin the year

    That the daughters of Israel went yearly to lament the daughter of Jephthah the Gileadite four days in a year.
