Job 22 אִיּוֹב פרק כ״ב

1. 1

   וַיַּעַןand he answeredאֱלִיפַזEliphazהַתֵּמָנִיthe Temaniteוַיֹּאמַר׃and said

   Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said,

   הַלְאֵלunto Godיִסְכׇּן־גָּבֶרcan a man be profitableכִּי־יִסְכֹּןas he may be profitableעָלֵימוֹunto himselfמַשְׂכִּיל׃he that is wise

   Can a man be profitable unto God, as he that is wise may be profitable unto himself?

3. 3

   הַחֵפֶץis it any pleasureלְשַׁדַּיto the Almightyכִּיthatתִצְדָּקyou are righteousוְאִם־בֶּצַעor is it gainכִּי־תַתֵּםthat you make perfectדְּרָכֶיךָ׃your ways

   Is it any pleasure to the Almighty, that thou art righteous? or is it gain to him, that thou makest thy ways perfect?

   הֲמִיִּרְאָתְךָfor fear of youיֹכִיחֶךָdoes he reprove youיָבוֹאwill he enterעִמְּךָwith youבַּמִּשְׁפָּט׃in the judgment

   Will he reprove thee for fear of thee? will he enter with thee into judgment?

   הֲלֹאis it notרָעָתְךָyour wickednessרַבָּהmuchוְאֵין־קֵץand infiniteלַעֲוֺנֹתֶיךָ׃to your iniquities

   Is not thy wickedness great? and thine iniquities infinite?

6. 6

   כִּי־תַחְבֹּלfor you have taken a pledge fromאַחֶיךָyour brothersחִנָּםfor noughtוּבִגְדֵיand garments ofעֲרוּמִּיםthe nakedתַּפְשִׁיט׃you have stripped off

   For thou hast taken a pledge from thy brother for nought, and stripped the naked of their clothing.

   לֹא־מַיִםnot waterעָיֵףto the wearyתַּשְׁקֶהyou have given to drinkוּמֵרָעֵבand from the hungryתִּמְנַע־לָחֶם׃you have withheld food

   Thou hast not given water to the weary to drink, and thou hast withholden bread from the hungry.

8. 8

   וְאִישׁand a manזְרוֹעַthe mighty manלוֹto himהָאָרֶץthe earthוּנְשׂוּאand the honorableפָנִיםof personיֵשֶׁבlet him remainבָּהּ׃in it

   But as for the mighty man, he had the earth; and the honourable man dwelt in it.

9. 9

   אַלְמָנוֹתwidowsשִׁלַּחְתָּyou have let goרֵיקָםempty handedוּזְרֹעוֹתand the arms ofיְתֹמִיםfatherless onesיְדֻכָּא׃have been broken

   Thou hast sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken.

10. 10

    עַל־כֵּןthereforeסְבִיבוֹתֶיךָare around youפַחִיםsnaresוִיבַהֶלְךָand troubles youפַּחַדdreadפִּתְאֹם׃suddenly

    Therefore snares are round about thee, and sudden fear troubleth thee;

11. 11

    אוֹ־חֹשֶׁךְor darknessלֹא־תִרְאֶהnot you will seeוְשִׁפְעַת־מַיִםand abundance of waterתְּכַסֶּךָּ׃it covers you

    Or darkness, that thou canst not see; and abundance of waters cover thee.

12. 12

    הֲלֹא־אֱלוֹהַּis it not Godגֹּבַהּin the height ofשָׁמָיִםheavenוּרְאֵהand beholdרֹאשׁthe height ofכּוֹכָבִיםstarsכִּי־רָמּוּ׃how high they are

    Is not God in the height of heaven? and behold the height of the stars, how high they are!

13. 13

    וְאָמַרְתָּand sayמַה־יָּדַעwhat does he knowאֵלGodהַבְעַדcan he judge throughעֲרָפֶלthe dark cloudיִשְׁפּוֹט׃shall he judge

    And thou sayest, How doth God know? can he judge through the dark cloud?

14. 14

    עָבִיםthick cloudsסֵתֶר־לוֹare a covering to himוְלֹאand notיִרְאֶהshall seeוְחוּגand the circle ofשָׁמַיִםthe heavensיִתְהַלָּךְ׃he walks in the circuit

    Thick clouds are a covering to him, that he seeth not; and he walketh in the circuit of heaven.

15. 15

    הַאֹרַחthe wayעוֹלָםeternalתִּשְׁמוֹרhave you markedאֲשֶׁרwhichדָּרְכוּhave troddenמְתֵי־אָוֶן׃wicked men

    Hast thou marked the old way which wicked men have trodden?

16. 16

    אֲשֶׁר־קֻמְּטוּwhich were cut downוְלֹא־עֵתout of timeנָהָרthe riverיוּצַקwas overflownיְסוֹדָם׃their foundation

    Which were cut down out of time, whose foundation was overflown with a flood:

17. 17

    הָאֹמְרִיםthe ones sayingלָאֵלto the Godסוּרdepartמִמֶּנּוּfrom himוּמַה־יִּפְעַלyea and what will he doשַׁדַּיAlmightyלָמוֹ׃for them

    Which said unto God, Depart from us: and what can the Almighty do for them?

18. 18

    וְהוּאand heמִלֵּאhe filledבָתֵּיהֶםtheir housesטוֹבgoodוַעֲצַתand the plan ofרְשָׁעִיםwicked menרָחֲקָהit is farמֶנִּי׃from me

    Yet he filled their houses with good things: but the counsel of the wicked is far from me.

19. 19

    יִרְאוּshall seeצַדִּיקִיםthe righteousוְיִשְׂמָחוּand rejoiceוְנָקִיand an innocent personיִלְעַג־לָמוֹ׃laugh them to scorn

    The righteous see it, and are glad: and the innocent laugh them to scorn.

20. 20

    אִם־לֹאif notנִכְחַדis not cut downקִימָנוּour substanceוְיִתְרָםand the remnant of themאָכְלָהit consumedאֵשׁ׃fire

    Whereas our substance is not cut down, but the remnant of them the fire consumeth.

21. 21

    הַסְכֶּן־נָאacquaint now yourselfעִמּוֹwith himוּשְׁלָםand be at peaceבָּהֶםtherebyתְּבוֹאַתְךָshall come unto youטוֹבָה׃good

    Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace: thereby good shall come unto thee.

22. 22

    קַח־נָאtake I prayמִפִּיוfrom his mouthתּוֹרָהLawוְשִׂיםand putאֲמָרָיוhis wordsבִּלְבָבֶךָ׃in your heart

    Receive, I pray thee, the law from his mouth, and lay up his words in thine heart.

23. 23

    אִם־תָּשׁוּבif returnעַד־שַׁדַּיuntil Almightyתִּבָּנֶהyou shall be built upתַּרְחִיקyou shall put far awayעַוְלָהinjusticeמֵאׇהֳלֶךָ׃from your tent

    If thou return to the Almighty, thou shalt be built up, thou shalt put away iniquity far from thy tabernacles.

24. 24

    וְשִׁית־עַל־עָפָרthen shall you lay up as dustבָּצֶרgoldוּכְצוּרand as the stones ofנְחָלִיםthe brooksאוֹפִיר׃Ophir

    Then shalt thou lay up gold as dust, and the gold of Ophir as the stones of the brooks.

25. 25

    וְהָיָהand beשַׁדַּיAlmightyבְּצָרֶיךָyour defenseוְכֶסֶףand silverתּוֹעָפוֹתplentyלָךְ׃to you

    Yea, the Almighty shall be thy defence, and thou shalt have plenty of silver.

26. 26

    כִּי־אָזbecause thenעַל־שַׁדַּיupon Almightyתִּתְעַנָּגyou will take delightוְתִשָּׂאand you may lift upאֶל־אֱלוֹהַּto Godפָּנֶיךָ׃your face

    For then shalt thou have thy delight in the Almighty, and shalt lift up thy face unto God.

27. 27

    תַּעְתִּירyou will prayאֵלָיוto himוְיִשְׁמָעֶךָּand he will hear youוּנְדָרֶיךָand your vowsתְשַׁלֵּם׃you will pay

    Thou shalt make thy prayer unto him, and he shall hear thee, and thou shalt pay thy vows.

28. 28

    וְתִגְזַר־אֹמֶרyou shall also decree a thingוְיָקׇם־לָךְand it shall be established unto youוְעַל־דְּרָכֶיךָand upon your waysנָגַהּhas shinedאוֹר׃light

    Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways.

29. 29

    כִּי־הִשְׁפִּילוּwhen men are cast downוַתֹּאמֶרand saidגֵּוָהthere is lifting upוְשַׁחand the humbleעֵינַיִםof eyesיוֹשִׁעַ׃he will save

    When men are cast down, then thou shalt say, There is lifting up; and he shall save the humble person.

30. 30

    יְמַלֵּטhe deliversאִי־נָקִיthe island of the innocentוְנִמְלַטand he will be deliveredבְּבֹרby the pureness ofכַּפֶּיךָ׃your hands

    He shall deliver the island of the innocent: and it is delivered by the pureness of thine hands.
