   לְמוֹאָבof Moabכֹּה־אָמַרthus saysיְהֹוָהthe LORDצְבָאוֹתof Hostsאֱלֹהֵיthe God ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelהוֹיwoeאֶל־נְבוֹto Neboכִּיforשֻׁדָּדָהit is spoiledהֹבִישָׁהis confoundedנִלְכְּדָהit was capturedקִרְיָתָיִםKirjathaimהֹבִישָׁהis confoundedהַמִּשְׂגָּבMisgabוָחָתָּה׃and is dismayed

   Against Moab thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Woe unto Nebo! for it is spoiled: Kiriathaim is confounded and taken: Misgab is confounded and dismayed.

   אֵיןthere is noעוֹדany moreתְּהִלַּתpraise ofמוֹאָבMoabבְּחֶשְׁבּוֹןin Heshbonחָשְׁבוּthey have devisedעָלֶיהָupon itרָעָהevilלְכוּgoוְנַכְרִיתֶנָּהand let us cut off itמִגּוֹיfrom being a nationגַּם־מַדְמֵןalso O Madmenתִּדֹּמִּיyou shall be cut downאַחֲרַיִךְafter youתֵּלֶךְit will goחָרֶב׃a sword

   There shall be no more praise of Moab: in Heshbon they have devised evil against it; come, and let us cut it off from being a nation. Also thou shalt be cut down, O Madmen; the sword shall pursue thee.

   קוֹלthe voice ofצְעָקָהa cryמֵחֹרוֹנָיִםfrom Horonaimשֹׁדdesolationוָשֶׁבֶרand destructionגָּדוֹל׃great

   A voice of crying shall be from Horonaim, spoiling and great destruction.

4. 4

   נִשְׁבְּרָהit has been brokenמוֹאָבMoabהִשְׁמִיעוּhave raisedזְּעָקָהa cry of distress[צְעִירֶיהָ]׃her little ones

   Moab is destroyed; her little ones have caused a cry to be heard.

5. 5

   כִּיbecauseמַעֲלֵהthe ascent of(הלחות)[הַלֻּחִית]Luhithבִּבְכִיin weepingיַעֲלֶה־בֶּכִיshall go up weepingכִּיbecauseבְּמוֹרַדat the descent ofחוֹרֹנַיִםHoronaimצָרֵיthe distresses ofצַעֲקַת־שֶׁבֶרthe cry of destructionשָׁמֵעוּ׃they listened

   For in the going up of Luhith continual weeping shall go up; for in the going down of Horonaim the enemies have heard a cry of destruction.

   נֻסוּfleeמַלְּטוּsaveנַפְשְׁכֶםyour livesוְתִהְיֶינָהand there shall beכַּעֲרוֹעֵרlike a juniper bushבַּמִּדְבָּר׃in the wilderness

   Flee, save your lives, and be like the heath in the wilderness.

7. 7

   כִּיbecauseיַעַןbecauseבִּטְחֵךְyour trustingבְּמַעֲשַׂיִךְin your deedsוּבְאוֹצְרוֹתַיִךְand in your treasuresגַּם־אַתְּalso youתִּלָּכֵדִיyou will be capturedוְיָצָאand shall come forth(כמיש)[כְמוֹשׁ]Chemoshבַּגּוֹלָהin the exileכֹּהֲנָיוhis priestsוְשָׂרָיוand his princes(יחד)[יַחְדָּיו]׃together

   For because thou hast trusted in thy works and in thy treasures, thou shalt also be taken: and Chemosh shall go forth into captivity with his priests and his princes together.

8. 8

   וְיָבֹאand shall comeשֹׁדֵדa destroyerאֶל־כׇּל־עִירto every cityוְעִירand a cityלֹאnotתִמָּלֵטshall escapeוְאָבַדand shall perishהָעֵמֶקthe valleyוְנִשְׁמַדand shall be destroyedהַמִּישֹׁרthe plainאֲשֶׁרwhichאָמַרsaidיְהֹוָה׃the LORD

   And the spoiler shall come upon every city, and no city shall escape: the valley also shall perish, and the plain shall be destroyed, as the LORD hath spoken.

9. 9

   תְּנוּ־צִיץgive wingsלְמוֹאָבof Moabכִּיforנָצֹאsurelyתֵּצֵאshall go forthוְעָרֶיהָand its citiesלְשַׁמָּהdesolateתִהְיֶינָהshall there beמֵאֵיןwithoutיוֹשֵׁבinhabitantבָּהֵן׃in them

   Give wings unto Moab, that it may flee and get away: for the cities thereof shall be desolate, without any to dwell therein.

10. 10

    אָרוּרcursed isעֹשֶׂהdoingמְלֶאכֶתwork ofיְהֹוָהthe LORDרְמִיָּהslacklyוְאָרוּרand cursedמֹנֵעַone who withholdsחַרְבּוֹhis swordמִדָּם׃from blood

    Cursed be he that doeth the work of the LORD deceitfully, and cursed be he that keepeth back his sword from blood.

11. 11

    שַׁאֲנַןhas been at easeמוֹאָבMoabמִנְּעוּרָיוfrom its youthוְשֹׁקֵטand has been undisturbedהוּאheאֶל־שְׁמָרָיוon his leesוְלֹא־הוּרַקand not it has been pouredמִכְּלִיfrom vesselאֶל־כֶּלִיto a vesselוּבַגּוֹלָהand in the exileלֹאnotהָלָךְhe wentעַל־כֵּןthereforeעָמַדstoodטַעְמוֹhis tasteבּוֹin itוְרֵיחוֹand its aromaלֹאnotנָמָר׃it has been changed

    Moab hath been at ease from his youth, and he hath settled on his lees, and hath not been emptied from vessel to vessel, neither hath he gone into captivity: therefore his taste remained in him, and his scent is not changed.

12. 12

    לָכֵןthereforeהִנֵּה־יָמִיםbehold daysבָּאִיםcomeנְאֻם־יְהֹוָהsays the LORDוְשִׁלַּחְתִּי־לוֹand I will send himצֹעִיםthose who tipוְצֵעֻהוּand they will tip itוְכֵלָיוand his vesselsיָרִיקוּthey shall emptyוְנִבְלֵיהֶםand their jarsיְנַפֵּצוּ׃they will smash

    Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will send unto him wanderers, that shall cause him to wander, and shall empty his vessels, and break their bottles.

13. 13

    וּבֹשׁand it will be ashamedמוֹאָבMoabמִכְּמוֹשׁfrom Chemoshכַּאֲשֶׁר־בֹּשׁוּas was ashamedבֵּיתthe house ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelמִבֵּיתfrom Beth-אֵלelמִבְטֶחָם׃their trust

    And Moab shall be ashamed of Chemosh, as the house of Israel was ashamed of Beth-el their confidence.

14. 14

    אֵיךְhowתֹּאמְרוּyou sayגִּבּוֹרִיםmightyאֲנָחְנוּweוְאַנְשֵׁי־חַיִלand men of valorלַמִּלְחָמָה׃to the war

    How say ye, We are mighty and strong men for the war?

15. 15

    שֻׁדַּדis spoiledמוֹאָבMoabוְעָרֶיהָand its citiesעָלָהhe is gone upוּמִבְחַרand the choicest ofבַּחוּרָיוits young menיָרְדוּcame downלַטָּבַחto the slaughterנְאֻם־הַמֶּלֶךְsays the kingיְהֹוָהthe LORDצְבָאוֹתof Hostsשְׁמוֹ׃his name

    Moab is spoiled, and gone up out of her cities, and his chosen young men are gone down to the slaughter, saith the King, whose name is the LORD of hosts.

16. 16

    קָרוֹבnearאֵיד־מוֹאָבthe calamity of Moabלָבוֹאto comeוְרָעָתוֹand its calamityמִהֲרָהit will hastenמְאֹד׃exceedingly

    The calamity of Moab is near to come, and his affliction hasteth fast.

17. 17

    נֻדוּbemoanלוֹto himכׇּל־סְבִיבָיוall those around himוְכֹלand allיֹדְעֵיknowingשְׁמוֹhis nameאִמְרוּsayאֵיכָהhowנִשְׁבַּרwas brokenמַטֵּה־עֹזthe staff of strengthמַקֵּלthe rod ofתִּפְאָרָה׃splendor

    All ye that are about him, bemoan him; and all ye that know his name, say, How is the strong staff broken, and the beautiful rod!

18. 18

    רְדִיgo downמִכָּבוֹדfrom honor(ישבי)[וּשְׁבִי]and sitבַצָּמָאof the thirstיֹשֶׁבֶתO inhabitant ofבַּת־דִּיבוֹןdaughter of Dibonכִּי־שֹׁדֵדbecause a destroyerמוֹאָבMoabעָלָהascendedבָךְyouשִׁחֵתhe has destroyedמִבְצָרָיִךְ׃your strongholds

    Thou daughter that dost inhabit Dibon, come down from thy glory, and sit in thirst; for the spoiler of Moab shall come upon thee, and he shall destroy thy strong holds.

19. 19

    אֶל־דֶּרֶךְto the wayעִמְדִיstandוְצַפִּיand watchיוֹשֶׁבֶתO inhabitant ofעֲרוֹעֵרAroerשַׁאֲלִי־נָסask him that fleesוְנִמְלָטָהand a woman who escapesאִמְרִיsayמַה־נִּהְיָתָה׃what has it happened

    O inhabitant of Aroer, stand by the way, and espy; ask him that fleeth, and her that escapeth, and say, What is done?

20. 20

    הֹבִישׁis confoundedמוֹאָבMoabכִּי־חַתָּהbecause it is broken down(היליליוזעקי)[הֵילִילוּhowlוּזְעָקוּ]and cry outהַגִּידוּdeclareבְאַרְנוֹןat the Arnonכִּיforשֻׁדַּדis spoiledמוֹאָב׃Moab

    Moab is confounded; for it is broken down: howl and cry; tell ye it in Arnon, that Moab is spoiled,

21. 21

    וּמִשְׁפָּטand judgmentבָּאcameאֶל־אֶרֶץto the land ofהַמִּישֹׁרthe plainאֶל־חֹלוֹןto Holonוְאֶל־יַהְצָהand Jahazוְעַל־(מופעת)and upon[מֵיפָעַת]׃Mephaath

    And judgment is come upon the plain country; upon Holon, and upon Jahazah, and upon Mephaath,

22. 22

    וְעַל־דִּיבוֹןand upon Dibonוְעַל־נְבוֹand upon Neboוְעַל־בֵּיתand upon Beth-דִּבְלָתָיִם׃diblathaim

    And upon Dibon, and upon Nebo, and upon Beth-diblathaim,

23. 23

    וְעַלand uponקִרְיָתַיִםKirjathaimוְעַל־בֵּיתand upon Beth-גָּמוּלgamulוְעַל־בֵּיתand upon Beth-מְעוֹן׃meon

    And upon Kiriathaim, and upon Beth-gamul, and upon Beth-meon,

24. 24

    וְעַל־קְרִיּוֹתand upon Keriothוְעַל־בׇּצְרָהand upon Bozrahוְעַלand uponכׇּל־עָרֵיall cities ofאֶרֶץthe land ofמוֹאָבMoabהָרְחֹקוֹתthe farוְהַקְּרֹבוֹת׃and the near

    And upon Kerioth, and upon Bozrah, and upon all the cities of the land of Moab, far or near.

25. 25

    נִגְדְּעָהis cut offקֶרֶןthe horn ofמוֹאָבMoabוּזְרֹעוֹand his armנִשְׁבָּרָהis brokenנְאֻםsaysיְהֹוָה׃the LORD

    The horn of Moab is cut off, and his arm is broken, saith the LORD.

26. 26

    הַשְׁכִּירֻהוּmake drunk itכִּיforעַל־יְהֹוָהupon the LORDהִגְדִּילhe did great thingsוְסָפַקand shall wallowמוֹאָבMoabבְּקִיאוֹin his vomitוְהָיָהand beלִשְׂחֹקa laughing stockגַּם־הוּא׃also he

    Make ye him drunken: for he magnified himself against the LORD: Moab also shall wallow in his vomit, and he also shall be in derision.

27. 27

    וְאִםand ifלוֹאnotהַשְּׂחֹקthe laughing stockהָיָהwasלְךָfor youיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelאִם־בְּגַנָּבִיםif among thieves(נמצאה)[נִמְצָא]be foundכִּי־מִדֵּיbecause more than sufficiency ofדְבָרֶיךָyour wordsבּוֹin itתִּתְנוֹדָד׃you shook yourself

    For was not Israel a derision unto thee? was he found among thieves? for since thou spakest of him, thou skippedst for joy.

28. 28

    עִזְבוּabandonעָרִיםcitiesוְשִׁכְנוּand dwellבַסֶּלַעin the rocksיֹשְׁבֵיinhabitants ofמוֹאָבMoabוִהְיוּand beכְיוֹנָהlike a doveתְּקַנֵּןwhich it makes a nestבְּעֶבְרֵיin the sides ofפִי־פָחַת׃the mouth of a pit

    O ye that dwell in Moab, leave the cities, and dwell in the rock, and be like the dove that maketh her nest in the sides of the hole's mouth.

29. 29

    שָׁמַעְנוּwe heardגְאוֹן־מוֹאָבpride of Moabגֵּאֶהproudמְאֹדexceedinglyגׇּבְהוֹhis loftinessוּגְאוֹנוֹand its prideוְגַאֲוָתוֹand its boastfulnessוְרֻםand the loftiness ofלִבּוֹ׃his heart

    We have heard the pride of Moab, (he is exceeding proud) his loftiness, and his arrogancy, and his pride, and the haughtiness of his heart.

30. 30

    אֲנִיIיָדַעְתִּיI knowנְאֻם־יְהֹוָהsays the LORDעֶבְרָתוֹhis furyוְלֹא־כֵןand not thusבַּדָּיוhis pratingsלֹא־כֵןsoעָשׂוּ׃they did

    I know his wrath, saith the LORD; but it shall not be so; his lies shall not so effect it.

31. 31

    עַל־כֵּןthereforeעַל־מוֹאָבupon MoabאֲיֵלִילI will wailוּלְמוֹאָבand for Moabכֻּלֹּהall of itאֶזְעָקI cry outאֶל־אַנְשֵׁיto the men ofקִיר־חֶרֶשׂKir-heresיֶהְגֶּה׃it will utter

    Therefore will I howl for Moab, and I will cry out for all Moab; mine heart shall mourn for the men of Kir-heres.

32. 32

    מִבְּכִיfrom weepingיַעְזֵרJazerאֶבְכֶּה־לָּךְI weep to youהַגֶּפֶןthe vineשִׂבְמָהSibmahנְטִישֹׁתַיִךְyour tendrilsעָבְרוּpassedיָםthe seaעַדuntilיָםthe seaיַעְזֵרJazerנָגָעוּthey reachedעַל־קֵיצֵךְupon your summer fruitוְעַל־בְּצִירֵךְand upon your grape harvestשֹׁדֵדa destroyerנָפָל׃is fallen

    O vine of Sibmah, I will weep for thee with the weeping of Jazer: thy plants are gone over the sea, they reach even to the sea of Jazer: the spoiler is fallen upon thy summer fruits and upon thy vintage.

33. 33

    וְנֶאֶסְפָהand is taken awayשִׂמְחָהjoyוָגִילand rejoicingמִכַּרְמֶלfrom the garden landוּמֵאֶרֶץand from the land ofמוֹאָבMoabוְיַיִןand wineמִיקָבִיםfrom wine pressesהִשְׁבַּתִּיI have made to ceaseלֹא־יִדְרֹךְnot shall he treadהֵידָדshoutingהֵידָדshoutingלֹאnotהֵידָד׃shouting

    And joy and gladness is taken from the plentiful field, and from the land of Moab; and I have caused wine to fail from the winepresses: none shall tread with shouting; their shouting shall be no shouting.

34. 34

    מִזַּעֲקַתfrom the cry ofחֶשְׁבּוֹןHeshbonעַד־אֶלְעָלֵהuntil Elealehעַד־יַהַץuntil Jahazנָתְנוּthey gaveקוֹלָםtheir voicesמִצֹּעַרfrom Zoarעַד־חֹרֹנַיִםuntil HoronaimעֶגְלַתEglatשְׁלִשִׁיָּהShelishiyahכִּיforגַּם־מֵיalso the waters ofנִמְרִיםNimrimלִמְשַׁמּוֹתfor desolationsיִהְיוּ׃shall be

    From the cry of Heshbon even unto Elealeh, and even unto Jahaz, have they uttered their voice, from Zoar even unto Horonaim, as an heifer of three years old: for the waters also of Nimrim shall be desolate.

35. 35

    וְהִשְׁבַּתִּיand I will cause to ceaseלְמוֹאָבof Moabנְאֻם־יְהֹוָהsays the LORDמַעֲלֶהofferingבָמָהa high placeוּמַקְטִירand burning incenseלֵאלֹהָיו׃to his gods

    Moreover I will cause to cease in Moab, saith the LORD, him that offereth in the high places, and him that burneth incense to his gods.

36. 36

    עַל־כֵּןthereforeלִבִּיmy heartלְמוֹאָבof Moabכַּחֲלִלִיםlike flutesיֶהֱמֶהshall moanוְלִבִּיand my heartאֶל־אַנְשֵׁיto the men ofקִיר־חֶרֶשׂKir-heresכַּחֲלִילִיםlike flutesיֶהֱמֶהshall moanעַל־כֵּןthereforeיִתְרַתthe abundance ofעָשָׂהhe has gainedאָבָדוּ׃perished

    Therefore mine heart shall sound for Moab like pipes, and mine heart shall sound like pipes for the men of Kir-heres: because the riches that he hath gotten are perished.

37. 37

    כִּיforכׇל־רֹאשׁevery headקׇרְחָהbaldnessוְכׇל־זָקָןand every beardגְּרֻעָהclippedעַלuponכׇּל־יָדַיִםall the handsגְּדֻדֹתcutsוְעַל־מׇתְנַיִםand on loinsשָׂק׃sackcloth

    For every head shall be bald, and every beard clipped: upon all the hands shall be cuttings, and upon the loins sackcloth.

38. 38

    עַלuponכׇּל־גַּגּוֹתall roofsמוֹאָבMoabוּבִרְחֹבֹתֶיהָand in its open placesכֻּלֹּהall of itמִסְפֵּדa lamentכִּי־שָׁבַרְתִּיbecause I brokeאֶת־מוֹאָבMoabכִּכְלִיlike a vesselאֵין־חֵפֶץthere is no desireבּוֹin itנְאֻם־יְהֹוָה׃says the LORD

    There shall be lamentation generally upon all the housetops of Moab, and in the streets thereof: for I have broken Moab like a vessel wherein is no pleasure, saith the LORD.

39. 39

    אֵיךְhowחַתָּהit is broken downהֵילִילוּhowlאֵיךְhowהִפְנָה־עֹרֶףhas turned the backמוֹאָבMoabבּוֹשׁwith shameוְהָיָהand beמוֹאָבMoabלִשְׂחֹקa laughing stockוְלִמְחִתָּהand an object of terrorלְכׇל־סְבִיבָיו׃to all those around him

    They shall howl, saying, How is it broken down! how hath Moab turned the back with shame! so shall Moab be a derision and a dismaying to all them about him.

40. 40

    כִּי־כֹהbecause thusאָמַרsaidיְהֹוָהthe LORDהִנֵּהbeholdכַנֶּשֶׁרlike the eagleיִדְאֶהhe shall flyוּפָרַשׂand stretches forthכְּנָפָיוhis wingsאֶל־מוֹאָב׃to Moab

    For thus saith the LORD; Behold, he shall fly as an eagle, and shall spread his wings over Moab.

41. 41

    נִלְכְּדָהit was capturedהַקְּרִיּוֹתKeriothוְהַמְּצָדוֹתand the strongholdsנִתְפָּשָׂהwas seizedוְהָיָהand beלֵבheartגִּבּוֹרֵיmighty men ofמוֹאָבMoabבַּיּוֹםin the dayהַהוּאthatכְּלֵבlike the heart ofאִשָּׁהa womanמְצֵרָה׃in labor

    Kerioth is taken, and the strong holds are surprised, and the mighty men's hearts in Moab at that day shall be as the heart of a woman in her pangs.

42. 42

    וְנִשְׁמַדand shall be destroyedמוֹאָבMoabמֵעָםfrom being a peopleכִּיbecauseעַל־יְהֹוָהupon the LORDהִגְדִּיל׃he did great things

    And Moab shall be destroyed from being a people, because he hath magnified himself against the LORD.

43. 43

    פַּחַדdreadוָפַחַתand pitוָפָחand snareעָלֶיךָupon youיוֹשֵׁבO inhabitant ofמוֹאָבMoabנְאֻם־יְהֹוָה׃says the LORD

    Fear, and the pit, and the snare, shall be upon thee, O inhabitant of Moab, saith the LORD.

44. 44

    (הניס)[הַנָּס]he that fleesמִפְּנֵיbecause ofהַפַּחַדthe fearיִפֹּלshall fallאֶל־הַפַּחַתto the pitוְהָעֹלֶהand the one who climbs upמִן־הַפַּחַתfrom the pitיִלָּכֵדhe will be caughtבַּפָּחin the snareכִּי־אָבִיאbecause I will bringאֵלֶיהָto herאֶל־מוֹאָבto Moabשְׁנַתyear ofפְּקֻדָּתָםtheir punishmentנְאֻם־יְהֹוָה׃says the LORD

    He that fleeth from the fear shall fall into the pit; and he that getteth up out of the pit shall be taken in the snare: for I will bring upon it, even upon Moab, the year of their visitation, saith the LORD.

45. 45

    בְּצֵלin shadow ofחֶשְׁבּוֹןHeshbonעָמְדוּstoodמִכֹּחַwithout strengthנָסִיםthe fugitivesכִּי־אֵשׁbecause fireיָצָאhe went forthמֵחֶשְׁבּוֹןfrom Heshbonוְלֶהָבָהand flameמִבֵּיןfrom the midst ofסִיחוֹןSihonוַתֹּאכַלand it consumedפְּאַתthe corner ofמוֹאָבMoabוְקׇדְקֹדand the crown of the head ofבְּנֵיthe sons ofשָׁאוֹן׃roaring

    They that fled stood under the shadow of Heshbon because of the force: but a fire shall come forth out of Heshbon, and a flame from the midst of Sihon, and shall devour the corner of Moab, and the crown of the head of the tumultuous ones.

46. 46

    אוֹי־לְךָwoe be for youמוֹאָבMoabאָבַדis perishingעַם־כְּמוֹשׁthe people of Chemoshכִּי־לֻקְּחוּbecause they will be takenבָנֶיךָyour sonsבַּשֶּׁבִיinto the captivityוּבְנֹתֶיךָand your daughtersבַּשִּׁבְיָה׃into the bondage

    Woe be unto thee, O Moab! the people of Chemosh perisheth: for thy sons are taken captives, and thy daughters captives.

47. 47

    וְשַׁבְתִּיand I will returnשְׁבוּת־מוֹאָבthe captivity of Moabבְּאַחֲרִיתin the latter part ofהַיָּמִיםthe daysנְאֻם־יְהֹוָהsays the LORDעַד־הֵנָּהhithertoמִשְׁפַּטjudgmentמוֹאָב׃Moab

    Yet will I bring again the captivity of Moab in the latter days, saith the LORD. Thus far is the judgment of Moab.
