Ephraim compasseth me about with lies, and the house of Israel with deceit: but Judah yet ruleth with God, and is faithful with the saints.

Ephraim feedeth on wind, and followeth after the east wind: he daily increaseth lies and desolation; and they do make a covenant with the Assyrians, and oil is carried into Egypt.

וְרִיבve/RIVand a controversyלַיהֹוָהla-Adonaithe LORD hasעִם־יְהוּדָהim-Ye/hu/DAwith Judahוְלִפְקֹדve/lif/KODand will punishעַל־יַעֲקֹבal-Ya/a/KOVupon Jacobכִּדְרָכָיוkid/ra/KHAYVaccording to his waysכְּמַעֲלָלָיוke/ma/a/la/LAYVaccording to his doingsיָשִׁיבya/SHIVwill He recompenseלוֹ׃lohim
The LORD hath also a controversy with Judah, and will punish Jacob according to his ways; according to his doings will he recompense him.

בַּבֶּטֶןbab/BE/tenin the wombעָקַבa/KAVhe took by the heelאֶת־אָחִיוet-a/CHIVhis brotherוּבְאוֹנוֹu/ve/o/NOand by his strengthשָׂרָהsa/RAhe had power withאֶת־אֱלֹהִים׃et-e/lo/HIMGod
He took his brother by the heel in the womb, and by his strength he had power with God:

וַיָּשַׂרvay/YA/saryea he had powerאֶל־מַלְאָךְel-mal/AKHover the angelוַיֻּכָלvay/yu/KHALand he prevailedבָּכָהba/KHAhe weptוַיִּתְחַנֶּן־לוֹvay/yit/chan/NEN-loand made supplication to himבֵּית־אֵלbet-Elin Beth-elיִמְצָאֶנּוּyim/tsa/EN/nuHe found himוְשָׁםve/SHAMand thereיְדַבֵּרye/dab/BERHe spokeעִמָּנוּ׃im/MA/nuwith us
Yea, he had power over the angel, and prevailed: he wept, and made supplication unto him: he found him in Beth-el, and there he spake with us;

וַיהֹוָהve-Adonaieven the LORDאֱלֹהֵיe/lo/HEthe God ofהַצְּבָאוֹתhats/tse/va/OThostsיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDזִכְרוֹ׃zikh/ROis His memorial
Even the LORD God of hosts; the LORD is his memorial.

וְאַתָּהve/at/TAtherefore youבֵּאלֹהֶיךָbe/lo/HE/khato your Godתָשׁוּבta/SHUVturnחֶסֶדCHE/sedmercyוּמִשְׁפָּטu/mish/PATand judgmentשְׁמֹרshe/MORkeepוְקַוֵּהve/kav/VEand wait onאֶל־אֱלֹהֶיךָel-e/lo/HE/khayour Godתָּמִיד׃ta/MIDcontinually
Therefore turn thou to thy God: keep mercy and judgment, and wait on thy God continually.

כְּנַעַןke/NA/ana merchantבְּיָדוֹbe/ya/DOin his handמֹאזְנֵיmo/ze/NEthe balances ofמִרְמָהmir/MAdeceitלַעֲשֹׁקla/a/SHOKto oppressאָהֵב׃a/HEVhe loves
He is a merchant, the balances of deceit are in his hand: he loveth to oppress.

וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֶפְרַיִםEf/RA/yimEphraimאַךְakhyetעָשַׁרְתִּיa/SHAR/tiI am become richמָצָאתִיma/TSA/tiI have foundאוֹןonwealthלִיlifor myselfכׇּל־יְגִיעַיkol-ye/gi/AYin all my laborsלֹאlonotיִמְצְאוּ־לִיyim/tse/U-lithey shall find in meעָוֺןa/VONiniquityאֲשֶׁר־חֵטְא׃a/SHER-chetthat were sin
And Ephraim said, Yet I am become rich, I have found me out substance: in all my labours they shall find none iniquity in me that were sin.

וְאָנֹכִיve/a/no/KHIand IיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֱלֹהֶיךָe/lo/HE/khayour Godמֵאֶרֶץme/E/retsfrom the land ofמִצְרָיִםMits/RA/yimEgyptעֹדodyetאוֹשִׁיבְךָo/shi/ve/KHAwill make you dwellבׇאֳהָלִיםvo/o/ha/LIMin tentsכִּימֵיki/MEas in the days ofמוֹעֵד׃mo/EDthe solemn feast
And I that am the LORD thy God from the land of Egypt will yet make thee to dwell in tabernacles, as in the days of the solemn feast.

וְדִבַּרְתִּיve/dib/bar/TII have also spokenעַל־הַנְּבִיאִיםal-han/ne/vi/IMby the prophetsוְאָנֹכִיve/a/no/KHIand Iחָזוֹןcha/ZONvisionsהִרְבֵּיתִיhir/BE/tihave multipliedוּבְיַדu/ve/YADand by the ministry ofהַנְּבִיאִיםhan/ne/vi/IMthe prophetsאֲדַמֶּה׃a/dam/MEI used similitudes
I have also spoken by the prophets, and I have multiplied visions, and used similitudes, by the ministry of the prophets.

אִם־גִּלְעָדim-Gil/ADis GileadאָוֶןA/veniniquityאַךְ־שָׁוְאakh-shavsurely vanityהָיוּha/YUthey areבַּגִּלְגָּלbag/Gil/GALin Gilgalשְׁוָרִיםshe/va/RIMbullocksזִבֵּחוּzib/BE/chuthey sacrificeגַּםgamyeaמִזְבְּחוֹתָםmiz/be/cho/TAMtheir altarsכְּגַלִּיםke/gal/LIMare as heapsעַלalinתַּלְמֵיtal/MEthe furrows ofשָׂדָי׃sa/DAYthe field
Is there iniquity in Gilead? surely they are vanity: they sacrifice bullocks in Gilgal; yea, their altars are as heaps in the furrows of the fields.

וַיִּבְרַחvay/yiv/RACHand he fledיַעֲקֹבYa/a/KOVJacobשְׂדֵהse/DEinto the country ofאֲרָםA/RAMSyriaוַיַּעֲבֹדvay/ya/a/VODand servedיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelבְּאִשָּׁהbe/ish/SHAfor a wifeוּבְאִשָּׁהu/ve/ish/SHAand for a wifeשָׁמָר׃sha/MARhe kept sheep
And Jacob fled into the country of Syria, and Israel served for a wife, and for a wife he kept sheep.

וּבְנָבִיאu/ve/na/VIand by a prophetהֶעֱלָהhe/e/LAbroughtיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵלet-Yis/ra/ELIsraelמִמִּצְרָיִםmim/Mits/RA/yimout of Egyptוּבְנָבִיאu/ve/na/VIand by a prophetנִשְׁמָר׃nish/MARwas he preserved
And by a prophet the LORD brought Israel out of Egypt, and by a prophet was he preserved.

הִכְעִיסhikh/ISprovoked to angerאֶפְרַיִםEf/RA/yimEphraimתַּמְרוּרִיםtam/ru/RIMmost bitterlyוְדָמָיוve/da/MAYVtherefore his bloodעָלָיוa/LAYVupon himיִטּוֹשׁyit/TOSHshall He leaveוְחֶרְפָּתוֹve/cher/pa/TOand his reproachיָשִׁיבya/SHIVshall returnלוֹloto himאֲדֹנָיו׃a/do/NAYVhis Lord
Ephraim provoked him to anger most bitterly: therefore shall he leave his blood upon him, and his reproach shall his Lord return unto him.
