Hosea 12 הוֹשֵׁעַ פרק י״ב

1. 1

   סְבָבֻנִיthey have surrounded meבְכַחַשׁwith lyingאֶפְרַיִםEphraimוּבְמִרְמָהand with deceitבֵּיתthe house ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelוִיהוּדָהand Judahעֹדyetרָדrulethעִם־אֵלwith Godוְעִם־קְדוֹשִׁיםand with the saintsנֶאֱמָן׃is faithful

   Ephraim compasseth me about with lies, and the house of Israel with deceit: but Judah yet ruleth with God, and is faithful with the saints.

2. 2

   אֶפְרַיִםEphraimרֹעֶהfeedeth onרוּחַwindוְרֹדֵףand is one who pursuesקָדִיםthe east windכׇּל־הַיּוֹםall the dayכָּזָבa lieוָשֹׁדand havocיַרְבֶּהhe increasethוּבְרִיתand a covenantעִם־אַשּׁוּרwith Assyriaיִכְרֹתוּthey makeוְשֶׁמֶןand oilלְמִצְרַיִםto Egyptיוּבָל׃is carried

   Ephraim feedeth on wind, and followeth after the east wind: he daily increaseth lies and desolation; and they do make a covenant with the Assyrians, and oil is carried into Egypt.

   וְרִיבand strifeלַיהֹוָהto the LORDעִם־יְהוּדָהwith Judahוְלִפְקֹדand to visit judgmentעַל־יַעֲקֹבupon Jacobכִּדְרָכָיוaccording to his waysכְּמַעֲלָלָיוaccording to his deedsיָשִׁיבhe shall returnלוֹ׃to him

   The LORD hath also a controversy with Judah, and will punish Jacob according to his ways; according to his doings will he recompense him.

4. 4

   בַּבֶּטֶןin the wombעָקַבhe took by the heelאֶת־אָחִיוhis brotherוּבְאוֹנוֹand by his strengthשָׂרָהhe had powerאֶת־אֱלֹהִים׃God

   He took his brother by the heel in the womb, and by his strength he had power with God:

   וַיָּשַׂרand he had powerאֶל־מַלְאָךְto an angelוַיֻּכׇלand he prevailedבָּכָהhe weptוַיִּתְחַנֶּן־לוֹand made supplication to himבֵּית־אֵלBeth-elיִמְצָאֶנּוּhe found himוְשָׁםand thereיְדַבֵּרspeaksעִמָּנוּ׃with us

   Yea, he had power over the angel, and prevailed: he wept, and made supplication unto him: he found him in Beth-el, and there he spake with us;

6. 6

   וַיהֹוָהand the LORDאֱלֹהֵיthe God ofהַצְּבָאוֹתof hostsיְהֹוָהthe LORDזִכְרוֹ׃his memorial

   Even the LORD God of hosts; the LORD is his memorial.

7. 7

   וְאַתָּהand youבֵּאלֹהֶיךָin your Godתָשׁוּבreturnחֶסֶדmercyוּמִשְׁפָּטand judgmentשְׁמֹרwatchוְקַוֵּהand waitאֶל־אֱלֹהֶיךָto your Godתָּמִיד׃continually

   Therefore turn thou to thy God: keep mercy and judgment, and wait on thy God continually.

8. 8

   כְּנַעַןa merchantבְּיָדוֹin his handמֹאזְנֵיbalances ofמִרְמָהdeceitלַעֲשֹׁקto defraudאָהֵב׃he loveth

   He is a merchant, the balances of deceit are in his hand: he loveth to oppress.

9. 9

   וַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֶפְרַיִםEphraimאַךְbutעָשַׁרְתִּיI have become richמָצָאתִיI foundאוֹןsubstanceלִיto meכׇּל־יְגִיעַיall my toilלֹאnotיִמְצְאוּ־לִיthey shall find in meעָוֺןiniquityאֲשֶׁר־חֵטְא׃which sin

   And Ephraim said, Yet I am become rich, I have found me out substance: in all my labours they shall find none iniquity in me that were sin.

10. 10

    וְאָנֹכִיyet Iיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהֶיךָyour Godמֵאֶרֶץfrom the land ofמִצְרָיִםEgyptעֹדagainאוֹשִׁיבְךָI will cause to dwell youבׇאֳהָלִיםin tentכִּימֵיas days ofמוֹעֵד׃appointed time

    And I that am the LORD thy God from the land of Egypt will yet make thee to dwell in tabernacles, as in the days of the solemn feast.

11. 11

    וְדִבַּרְתִּיand I shall also speakעַל־הַנְּבִיאִיםupon the prophetsוְאָנֹכִיyet IחָזוֹןrevelationהִרְבֵּיתִיI multipliedוּבְיַדand by the hand ofהַנְּבִיאִיםthe prophetsאֲדַמֶּה׃I used similitudes

    I have also spoken by the prophets, and I have multiplied visions, and used similitudes, by the ministry of the prophets.

12. 12

    אִם־גִּלְעָדis Gileadאָוֶןiniquityאַךְ־שָׁוְאbut falsehoodהָיוּwereבַּגִּלְגָּלin Gilgalשְׁוָרִיםbullocksזִבֵּחוּthey have sacrificedגַּםalsoמִזְבְּחוֹתָםtheir altarsכְּגַלִּיםare as heapsעַלuponתַּלְמֵיthe furrows ofשָׂדָי׃the field

    Is there iniquity in Gilead? surely they are vanity: they sacrifice bullocks in Gilgal; yea, their altars are as heaps in the furrows of the fields.

13. 13

    וַיִּבְרַחand he fledיַעֲקֹבJacobשְׂדֵהthe field ofאֲרָםSyriaוַיַּעֲבֹדand shall serveיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelבְּאִשָּׁהfor a wifeוּבְאִשָּׁהand for a wifeשָׁמָר׃he kept sheep

    And Jacob fled into the country of Syria, and Israel served for a wife, and for a wife he kept sheep.

14. 14

    וּבְנָבִיאand by a prophetהֶעֱלָהbrought upיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelמִמִּצְרָיִםfrom Egyptוּבְנָבִיאand by a prophetנִשְׁמָר׃he was kept

    And by a prophet the LORD brought Israel out of Egypt, and by a prophet was he preserved.

15. 15

    הִכְעִיסhe provoked to angerאֶפְרַיִםEphraimתַּמְרוּרִיםmost bitterlyוְדָמָיוand his bloodעָלָיוupon himיִטּוֹשׁhe will leaveוְחֶרְפָּתוֹand his reproachיָשִׁיבhe shall returnלוֹto himאֲדֹנָיו׃his Lord

    Ephraim provoked him to anger most bitterly: therefore shall he leave his blood upon him, and his reproach shall his Lord return unto him.
