1. 1

   וַיָּבֹאוּand they cameשְׁנֵיtwoהַמַּלְאָכִיםthe angelsסְדֹמָהtoward Sodomבָּעֶרֶבin the eveningוְלוֹטand Lotיֹשֵׁבwas sittingבְּשַׁעַר־סְדֹםin the gate of Sodomוַיַּרְא־לוֹטand he saw Lotוַיָּקׇםand rose upלִקְרָאתָםto meet themוַיִּשְׁתַּחוּand bowed himselfאַפַּיִםwith faceאָרְצָה׃to the earth

   And there came two angels to Sodom at even; and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them; and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground;

   וַיֹּאמֶרand saidהִנֶּהbeholdנָּא־אֲדֹנַיI pray my lordsסוּרוּturn awayנָאI prayאֶל־בֵּיתto the house ofעַבְדְּכֶםyour servantוְלִינוּand stay the nightוְרַחֲצוּand washרַגְלֵיכֶםyour feetוְהִשְׁכַּמְתֶּםand you will rise earlyוַהֲלַכְתֶּםand you will goלְדַרְכְּכֶםto your waysוַיֹּאמְרוּand they saidלֹּאnoכִּיbecauseבָרְחוֹבin the open placeנָלִין׃we will stay the night

   And he said, Behold now, my lords, turn in, I pray you, into your servant's house, and tarry all night, and wash your feet, and ye shall rise up early, and go on your ways. And they said, Nay; but we will abide in the street all night.

   וַיִּפְצַר־בָּםand he urged themמְאֹדexceedinglyוַיָּסֻרוּand they turned asideאֵלָיוto himוַיָּבֹאוּand they cameאֶל־בֵּיתוֹto his houseוַיַּעַשׂand he madeלָהֶםto themמִשְׁתֶּהfeastוּמַצּוֹתand unleavened breadאָפָהhe bakedוַיֹּאכֵלוּ׃and they ate

   And he pressed upon them greatly; and they turned in unto him, and entered into his house; and he made them a feast, and did bake unleavened bread, and they did eat.

   טֶרֶםbeforeיִשְׁכָּבוּthey lay downוְאַנְשֵׁיand the men ofהָעִירthe cityאַנְשֵׁיthe men ofסְדֹםSodomנָסַבּוּthey surroundedעַל־הַבַּיִתupon the houseמִנַּעַרfrom young manוְעַד־זָקֵןand unto the ancientכׇּל־הָעָםall the peopleמִקָּצֶה׃from the end

   But before they lay down, the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compassed the house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter:

   וַיִּקְרְאוּand they calledאֶל־לוֹטto Lotוַיֹּאמְרוּand they saidלוֹto himאַיֵּהwhere isהָאֲנָשִׁיםthe menאֲשֶׁר־בָּאוּwho cameאֵלֶיךָto youהַלָּיְלָהthe nightהוֹצִיאֵםbring themאֵלֵינוּunto usוְנֵדְעָהso let us knowאֹתָם׃them

   And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them.

   וַיֵּצֵאand went outאֲלֵהֶםunto themלוֹטLotהַפֶּתְחָהto the entranceוְהַדֶּלֶתand the doorסָגַרhe closedאַחֲרָיו׃after him

   And Lot went out at the door unto them, and shut the door after him,

7. 7

   וַיֹּאמַרand saidאַל־נָאdo not I prayאַחַיmy brothersתָּרֵעוּ׃you do evil

   And said, I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly.

8. 8

   הִנֵּה־נָאbehold I prayלִיto meשְׁתֵּיtwoבָנוֹתdaughtersאֲשֶׁרwhichלֹא־יָדְעוּknow notאִישׁa manאוֹצִיאָה־נָּאlet me bring out nowאֶתְהֶןthemאֲלֵיכֶםunto youוַעֲשׂוּand doלָהֶןfor themכַּטּוֹבas is goodבְּעֵינֵיכֶםin your eyesרַקonlyלָאֲנָשִׁיםto the menהָאֵלtheseאַל־תַּעֲשׂוּdo not doדָבָרa wordכִּי־עַל־כֵּןbecause upon thusבָּאוּcameבְּצֵלin shadow ofקֹרָתִי׃my roof

   Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes: only unto these men do nothing; for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof.

   וַיֹּאמְרוּand they saidגֶּשׁ־הָלְאָהstand backוַיֹּאמְרוּand they saidהָאֶחָדthe oneבָּא־לָגוּרcame to sojournוַיִּשְׁפֹּטand he keeps judgingשָׁפוֹטindeedעַתָּהnowנָרַעwe will deal worseלְךָwith youמֵהֶםof themוַיִּפְצְרוּand they urgedבָאִישׁthe manבְּלוֹטLotמְאֹדexceedinglyוַיִּגְּשׁוּand they approachedלִשְׁבֹּרto breakהַדָּלֶת׃the door

   And they said, Stand back. And they said again, This one fellow came in to sojourn, and he will needs be a judge: now will we deal worse with thee, than with them. And they pressed sore upon the man, even Lot, and came near to break the door.

10. 10

    וַיִּשְׁלְחוּand sentהָאֲנָשִׁיםthe menאֶת־יָדָםthemוַיָּבִיאוּand broughtאֶת־לוֹטLotאֲלֵיהֶםto themהַבָּיְתָהto the houseוְאֶת־הַדֶּלֶתand the doorסָגָרוּ׃they closed

    But the men put forth their hand, and pulled Lot into the house to them, and shut to the door.

11. 11

    וְאֶת־הָאֲנָשִׁיםand the menאֲשֶׁר־פֶּתַחwhich door ofהַבַּיִתthe houseהִכּוּthey were smittenבַּסַּנְוֵרִיםwith the sudden blindnessמִקָּטֹןfrom smallוְעַד־גָּדוֹלand unto greatוַיִּלְאוּand they became wearyלִמְצֹאto findהַפָּתַח׃the entrance

    And they smote the men that were at the door of the house with blindness, both small and great: so that they wearied themselves to find the door.

12. 12

    וַיֹּאמְרוּand saidהָאֲנָשִׁיםthe menאֶל־לוֹטto Lotעֹדagainמִי־לְךָwho for youפֹהhereחָתָןa son in lawוּבָנֶיךָand your sonsוּבְנֹתֶיךָand your daughtersוְכֹלand allאֲשֶׁר־לְךָthat you haveבָּעִירin the cityהוֹצֵאbring outמִן־הַמָּקוֹם׃from the place

    And the men said unto Lot, Hast thou here any besides? son in law, and thy sons, and thy daughters, and whatsoever thou hast in the city, bring them out of this place:

13. 13

    כִּי־מַשְׁחִתִיםbecause are about to destroyאֲנַחְנוּweאֶת־הַמָּקוֹםthe placeהַזֶּהthisכִּי־גָדְלָהbecause is greatצַעֲקָתָםtheir outcryאֶת־פְּנֵיbeforeיְהֹוָהthe LORDוַיְשַׁלְּחֵנוּand has sent usיְהֹוָהthe LORDלְשַׁחֲתָהּ׃to destroy it

    For we will destroy this place, because the cry of them is waxen great before the face of the LORD; and the LORD hath sent us to destroy it.

14. 14

    וַיֵּצֵאand went outלוֹטLotוַיְדַבֵּרand spokeאֶל־חֲתָנָיוto his sons-in-lawלֹקְחֵיwho were about to takeבְנֹתָיוhis daughtersוַיֹּאמֶרand saidקוּמוּariseצְּאוּgo outמִן־הַמָּקוֹםfrom the placeהַזֶּהthisכִּי־מַשְׁחִיתbecause destroysיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֶת־הָעִירthe cityוַיְהִיand it came to passכִמְצַחֵקlike one who jestsבְּעֵינֵיin the eyes ofחֲתָנָיו׃his sons-in-law

    And Lot went out, and spake unto his sons in law, which married his daughters, and said, Up, get you out of this place; for the LORD will destroy this city. But he seemed as one that mocked unto his sons in law.

15. 15

    וּכְמוֹand whenהַשַּׁחַרthe dawnעָלָהascendedוַיָּאִיצוּand they urgedהַמַּלְאָכִיםthe angelsבְּלוֹטLotלֵאמֹרsayingקוּםariseקַחtakeאֶת־אִשְׁתְּךָyour wifeוְאֶת־שְׁתֵּיand twoבְנֹתֶיךָyour daughtersהַנִּמְצָאֹתwho are foundפֶּן־תִּסָּפֶהlest you should be swept awayבַּעֲוֺןin the iniquity ofהָעִיר׃the city

    And when the morning arose, then the angels hastened Lot, saying, Arise, take thy wife, and thy two daughters, which are here; lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city.

16. 16

    וַיִּתְמַהְמָהּand he delayedוַיַּחֲזִיקוּand caught holdהָאֲנָשִׁיםthe menבְּיָדוֹin his handוּבְיַד־אִשְׁתּוֹand by the hand of his wifeוּבְיַדand by the hand ofשְׁתֵּיtwoבְנֹתָיוhis daughtersבְּחֶמְלַתin the mercy ofיְהֹוָהthe LORDעָלָיוupon himוַיֹּצִאֻהוּand they brought out himוַיַּנִּחֻהוּand they placed himמִחוּץwithoutלָעִיר׃to the city of

    And while he lingered, the men laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife, and upon the hand of his two daughters; the LORD being merciful unto him: and they brought him forth, and set him without the city.

17. 17

    וַיְהִיand it came to passכְהוֹצִיאָםwhen they brought outאֹתָםthemהַחוּצָהthe outsideוַיֹּאמֶרand saidהִמָּלֵטescapeעַל־נַפְשֶׁךָupon your soulאַל־תַּבִּיטdo not lookאַחֲרֶיךָafter youוְאַל־תַּעֲמֹדand do not shall standבְּכׇל־הַכִּכָּרin all the plainהָהָרָהto the mountainהִמָּלֵטescapeפֶּן־תִּסָּפֶה׃lest you should be swept away

    And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he said, Escape for thy life; look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed.

18. 18

    וַיֹּאמֶרand saidלוֹטLotאֲלֵהֶםunto themאַל־נָאdo not I prayאֲדֹנָי׃Lord

    And Lot said unto them, Oh, not so, my Lord:

19. 19

    הִנֵּה־נָאbehold I prayמָצָאfoundעַבְדְּךָyour servantחֵןfavorבְּעֵינֶיךָin your eyesוַתַּגְדֵּלand you have made greatחַסְדְּךָyour lovingkindnessאֲשֶׁרwhichעָשִׂיתָyou didעִמָּדִיtoward meלְהַחֲיוֹתto preserve aliveאֶת־נַפְשִׁיmy soulוְאָנֹכִיyet IלֹאnotאוּכַלI couldלְהִמָּלֵטto escapeהָהָרָהto the mountainפֶּן־תִּדְבָּקַנִיlest it should cling to meהָרָעָהthe evilוָמַתִּי׃and I will die

    Behold now, thy servant hath found grace in thy sight, and thou hast magnified thy mercy, which thou hast shewed unto me in saving my life; and I cannot escape to the mountain, lest some evil take me, and I die:

20. 20

    הִנֵּה־נָאbehold I prayהָעִירthe cityהַזֹּאתthisקְרֹבָהis nearלָנוּסto fleeשָׁמָּהthereוְהִואand sheמִצְעָרis a small placeאִמָּלְטָהlet me escapeנָּאnowשָׁמָּהthereהֲלֹאis it notמִצְעָרis a small placeהִואit isוּתְחִיso it may liveנַפְשִׁי׃my life

    Behold now, this city is near to flee unto, and it is a little one: Oh, let me escape thither, (is it not a little one?) and my soul shall live.

21. 21

    וַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֵלָיוto himהִנֵּהbeholdנָשָׂאתִיI lift upפָנֶיךָyour faceגַּםalsoלַדָּבָרconcerning the wordהַזֶּהthisלְבִלְתִּיto notהׇפְכִּיmy overthrowingאֶת־הָעִירthe cityאֲשֶׁרwhichדִּבַּרְתָּ׃you have spoken

    And he said unto him, See, I have accepted thee concerning this thing also, that I will not overthrow this city, for the which thou hast spoken.

22. 22

    מַהֵרhurryהִמָּלֵטescapeשָׁמָּהthereכִּיforלֹאnotאוּכַלI couldלַעֲשׂוֹתto doדָּבָרa thingעַד־בֹּאֲךָuntil you comeשָׁמָּהthereעַל־כֵּןthereforeקָרָאcalledשֵׁם־הָעִירthe name of the cityצוֹעַר׃Zoar

    Haste thee, escape thither; for I cannot do any thing till thou be come thither. Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar.

23. 23

    הַשֶּׁמֶשׁthe sunיָצָאhe went forthעַל־הָאָרֶץupon the landוְלוֹטand Lotבָּאcameצֹעֲרָה׃to Zoar

    The sun was risen upon the earth when Lot entered into Zoar.

24. 24

    וַיהֹוָהand the LORDהִמְטִירhe had caused rainעַל־סְדֹםupon Sodomוְעַל־עֲמֹרָהand upon Gomorrahגׇּפְרִיתbrimstoneוָאֵשׁand fireמֵאֵתfromיְהֹוָהthe LORDמִן־הַשָּׁמָיִם׃from the heavens

    Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven;

25. 25

    וַיַּהֲפֹךְand he overturnedאֶת־הֶעָרִיםthe citiesהָאֵלtheseוְאֵתandכׇּל־הַכִּכָּרall the plainוְאֵתandכׇּל־יֹשְׁבֵיall inhabitants ofהֶעָרִיםthe citiesוְצֶמַחand the growth ofהָאֲדָמָה׃the earth

    And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground.

26. 26

    וַתַּבֵּטand she lookedאִשְׁתּוֹhis wifeמֵאַחֲרָיוfrom behind himוַתְּהִיand wasנְצִיבa pillar ofמֶלַח׃salt

    But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.

27. 27

    וַיַּשְׁכֵּםand he rose earlyאַבְרָהָםAbrahamבַּבֹּקֶרin the morningאֶל־הַמָּקוֹםunto the placeאֲשֶׁר־עָמַדwhere he had stoodשָׁםthereאֶת־פְּנֵיbeforeיְהֹוָה׃the LORD

    And Abraham gat up early in the morning to the place where he stood before the LORD:

28. 28

    וַיַּשְׁקֵףand he looked outעַל־פְּנֵיupon the face ofסְדֹםSodomוַעֲמֹרָהand Gomorrahוְעַל־כׇּל־פְּנֵיand upon all face ofאֶרֶץthe land ofהַכִּכָּרthe plainוַיַּרְאand sawוְהִנֵּהand beholdעָלָהascendedקִיטֹרthe burn ofהָאָרֶץthe earthכְּקִיטֹרlike the burn ofהַכִּבְשָׁן׃the furnace of

    And he looked toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and toward all the land of the plain, and beheld, and, lo, the smoke of the country went up as the smoke of a furnace.

29. 29

    וַיְהִיand it came to passבְּשַׁחֵתwhen destroyedאֱלֹהִיםGodאֶת־עָרֵיcities ofהַכִּכָּרthe plainוַיִּזְכֹּרand rememberedאֱלֹהִיםGodאֶת־אַבְרָהָםAbrahamוַיְשַׁלַּחand sentאֶת־לוֹטLotמִתּוֹךְfrom the midst ofהַהֲפֵכָהthe overthrowבַּהֲפֹךְwhen overthrewאֶת־הֶעָרִיםthe citiesאֲשֶׁר־יָשַׁבin which dweltבָּהֵןin themלוֹט׃Lot

    And it came to pass, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in the which Lot dwelt.

30. 30

    וַיַּעַלand he ascendedלוֹטLotמִצּוֹעַרfrom Zoarוַיֵּשֶׁבand he dweltבָּהָרin the mountainוּשְׁתֵּיand twoבְנֹתָיוhis daughtersעִמּוֹwith himכִּיforיָרֵאhe fearedלָשֶׁבֶתto dwellבְּצוֹעַרin Zoarוַיֵּשֶׁבand he dweltבַּמְּעָרָהin the caveהוּאitוּשְׁתֵּיand twoבְנֹתָיו׃his daughters

    And Lot went up out of Zoar, and dwelt in the mountain, and his two daughters with him; for he feared to dwell in Zoar: and he dwelt in a cave, he and his two daughters.

31. 31

    וַתֹּאמֶרand saidהַבְּכִירָהthe eldestאֶל־הַצְּעִירָהto the youngerאָבִינוּour fatherזָקֵןis oldוְאִישׁand a manאֵיןthere is noבָּאָרֶץin the landלָבוֹאto comeעָלֵינוּover usכְּדֶרֶךְafter the manner ofכׇּל־הָאָרֶץ׃all the earth

    And the firstborn said unto the younger, Our father is old, and there is not a man in the earth to come in unto us after the manner of all the earth:

32. 32

    לְכָהcomeנַשְׁקֶהlet us make drinkאֶת־אָבִינוּour fatherיַיִןwineוְנִשְׁכְּבָהand let us lieעִמּוֹwith himוּנְחַיֶּהso we may preserve aliveמֵאָבִינוּfrom our fatherזָרַע׃seed

    Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father.

33. 33

    וַתַּשְׁקֶיןָand they made drinkאֶת־אֲבִיהֶןtheir fatherיַיִןwineבַּלַּיְלָהin the nightהוּאthatוַתָּבֹאand went inהַבְּכִירָהthe eldestוַתִּשְׁכַּבand she lay withאֶת־אָבִיהָwith her fatherוְלֹא־יָדַעand not he knewבְּשִׁכְבָהּwhen she lay downוּבְקוּׄמָהּ׃and when she arose

    And they made their father drink wine that night: and the firstborn went in, and lay with her father; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose.

34. 34

    וַיְהִיand it came to passמִמׇּחֳרָתfrom the next day ofוַתֹּאמֶרand saidהַבְּכִירָהthe eldestאֶל־הַצְּעִירָהto the youngerהֵן־שָׁכַבְתִּיyea I lay withאֶמֶשׁlast nightאֶת־אָבִיmy fatherנַשְׁקֶנּוּlet us make drink himיַיִןwineגַּם־הַלַּיְלָהalso the nightוּבֹאִיand goשִׁכְבִיlieעִמּוֹwith himוּנְחַיֶּהso we may preserve aliveמֵאָבִינוּfrom our fatherזָרַע׃seed

    And it came to pass on the morrow, that the firstborn said unto the younger, Behold, I lay yesternight with my father: let us make him drink wine this night also; and go thou in, and lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father.

35. 35

    וַתַּשְׁקֶיןָand they made drinkגַּםalsoבַּלַּיְלָהin the nightהַהוּאthatאֶת־אֲבִיהֶןtheir fatherיָיִןwineוַתָּקׇםand aroseהַצְּעִירָהthe youngerוַתִּשְׁכַּבand she lay withעִמּוֹwith himוְלֹא־יָדַעand not he knewבְּשִׁכְבָהּwhen she lay downוּבְקֻמָהּ׃and when she arose

    And they made their father drink wine that night also: and the younger arose, and lay with him; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose.

36. 36

    וַתַּהֲרֶיןָand they conceivedשְׁתֵּיtwoבְנוֹת־לוֹטdaughters of Lotמֵאֲבִיהֶן׃by their father

    Thus were both the daughters of Lot with child by their father.

37. 37

    וַתֵּלֶדand boreהַבְּכִירָהthe eldestבֵּןa sonוַתִּקְרָאand she calledשְׁמוֹhis nameמוֹאָבMoabהוּאhe isאֲבִי־מוֹאָבthe father of Moabעַד־הַיּוֹם׃even until the day

    And the firstborn bare a son, and called his name Moab: the same is the father of the Moabites unto this day.

38. 38

    וְהַצְּעִירָהand the youngerגַם־הִואalso sheיָלְדָהshe boreבֵּןa sonוַתִּקְרָאand she calledשְׁמוֹhis nameבֶּן־עַמִּיBen-ammiהוּאhe isאֲבִיthe father ofבְנֵי־עַמּוֹןsons of Ammonעַד־הַיּוֹם׃even until the day

    And the younger, she also bare a son, and called his name Ben-ammi: the same is the father of the children of Ammon unto this day.
