    And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passבְּנׇסְעָםbe/nos/AMas they journeyedמִקֶּדֶםmik/KE/demfrom the eastוַיִּמְצְאוּvay/yim/tse/Uthat they foundבִקְעָהvik/Aa plainבְּאֶרֶץbe/E/retsin the land ofשִׁנְעָרShin/ARShinarוַיֵּשְׁבוּvay/yesh/VUand they dweltשָׁם׃shamthere

    And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.

    וַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidאִישׁishoneאֶל־רֵעֵהוּel-re/E/huto his neighborהָבָהHA/vacomeנִלְבְּנָהnil/be/NAlet us make brickלְבֵנִיםle/ve/NIMbricksוְנִשְׂרְפָהve/nis/re/FAand burnלִשְׂרֵפָהlis/re/FAfor burningוַתְּהִיvat/te/HIand wasלָהֶםla/HEMto themהַלְּבֵנָהhal/le/ve/NAbrickלְאָבֶןle/A/venfor stoneוְהַחֵמָרve/ha/che/MARand bitumenהָיָהha/YAwasלָהֶםla/HEMto themלַחֹמֶר׃la/CHO/merfor mortar

    And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them throughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter.

    וַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidהָבָהHA/vacomeנִבְנֶה־לָּנוּniv/NE-LA/nulet us build for ourselvesעִירira cityוּמִגְדָּלu/mig/DALand a towerוְרֹאשׁוֹve/ro/SHOand its topבַשָּׁמַיִםvash/sha/MA/yimin the heavensוְנַעֲשֶׂה־לָּנוּve/na/a/SE-LA/nuand let us make for ourselvesשֵׁםshema nameפֶּן־נָפוּץpen-na/FUTSlest we be scattered abroadעַל־פְּנֵיal-pe/NEupon the face ofכׇל־הָאָרֶץ׃khol-ha/A/retsall the earth

    And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.

    וַיֵּרֶדvay/YE/redand came downיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDלִרְאֹתlir/OTto seeאֶת־הָעִירet-ha/IRthe cityוְאֶת־הַמִּגְדָּלve/ET-ham/mig/DALand the towerאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichבָּנוּBA/nubuiltבְּנֵיbe/NEthe sons ofהָאָדָם׃ha/a/DAMmen

    And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.

  6. 6

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDהֵןhenbeholdעַםamthe peopleאֶחָדe/CHADis oneוְשָׂפָהve/sa/FAand languageאַחַתa/CHAToneלְכֻלָּםle/khul/LAMto them allוְזֶהve/ZEand thisהַחִלָּםha/chil/LAMthey beginלַעֲשׂוֹתla/a/SOTto doוְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowלֹא־יִבָּצֵרlo-yib/ba/TSERshall not be restrainedמֵהֶםme/HEMfrom themכֹּלkolallאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatיָזְמוּya/ze/MUthey have devisedלַעֲשׂוֹת׃la/a/SOTto do

    And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.

    הָבָהHA/vacomeנֵרְדָהner/DAlet us go downוְנָבְלָהve/na/ve/LAand let us confoundשָׁםshamthereשְׂפָתָםse/fa/TAMtheir languageאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatלֹאlonotיִשְׁמְעוּyish/me/Umay understandאִישׁishoneשְׂפַתse/FATthe speech ofרֵעֵהוּ׃re/E/huhis neighbor

    Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech.

    וַיָּפֶץvay/YA/fetsso scattered abroadיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֹתָםo/TAMthemמִשָּׁםmish/SHAMfrom thereעַל־פְּנֵיal-pe/NEupon the face ofכׇל־הָאָרֶץkhol-ha/A/retsall the earthוַיַּחְדְּלוּvay/yach/de/LUand they left offלִבְנֹתliv/NOTto buildהָעִיר׃ha/IRthe city

    So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.

    עַל־כֵּןal-kenthereforeקָרָאka/RAwas calledשְׁמָהּshe/MAits nameבָּבֶלBa/VELBabelכִּי־שָׁםki-shamfor thereבָּלַלba/LALconfoundedיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDשְׂפַתse/FATthe language ofכׇּל־הָאָרֶץkol-ha/A/retsall the earthוּמִשָּׁםu/mish/SHAMand from thereהֱפִיצָםhe/fi/TSAMscattered them abroadיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDעַל־פְּנֵיal-pe/NEupon the face ofכׇּל־הָאָרֶץ׃kol-ha/A/retsall the earth

    Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.

    אֵלֶּהEL/letheseתּוֹלְדֹתtol/DOTthe generations ofשֵׁםShemShemשֵׁםShemShemבֶּן־מְאַתben-me/ATa son of a hundredשָׁנָהsha/NAyearsוַיּוֹלֶדvay/YO/ledand begatאֶת־אַרְפַּכְשָׁדet-Ar/pakh/SHADArphaxadשְׁנָתַיִםshe/na/TA/yimtwo yearsאַחַרa/CHARafterהַמַּבּוּל׃ham/mab/BULthe flood

    These are the generations of Shem: Shem was an hundred years old, and begat Arphaxad two years after the flood:

    וַיְחִי־שֵׁםvay/CHI-Shemand Shem livedאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterהוֹלִידוֹho/li/DOhe begatאֶת־אַרְפַּכְשָׁדet-Ar/pakh/SHADArphaxadחֲמֵשׁcha/MESHfiveמֵאוֹתme/OThundredשָׁנָהsha/NAyearsוַיּוֹלֶדvay/YO/ledand begatבָּנִיםba/NIMsonsוּבָנוֹת׃u/va/NOTand daughters

    And Shem lived after he begat Arphaxad five hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.

    וְאַרְפַּכְשַׁדve/Ar/pakh/SHADand Arphaxadחַיchaylivedחָמֵשׁcha/MESHfiveוּשְׁלֹשִׁיםu/she/lo/SHIMand thirtyשָׁנָהsha/NAyearsוַיּוֹלֶדvay/YO/ledand begatאֶת־שָׁלַח׃et-SHA/lachShelah

    And Arphaxad lived five and thirty years, and begat Salah:

  13. 13

    וַיְחִיvay/CHIand livedאַרְפַּכְשַׁדAr/pakh/SHADArphaxadאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterהוֹלִידוֹho/li/DOhe begatאֶת־שֶׁלַחet-SHE/lachShelahשָׁלֹשׁsha/LOSHthreeשָׁנִיםsha/NIMyearsוְאַרְבַּעve/ar/BAand fourמֵאוֹתme/OThundredשָׁנָהsha/NAyearsוַיּוֹלֶדvay/YO/ledand begatבָּנִיםba/NIMsonsוּבָנוֹת׃u/va/NOTand daughters

    And Arphaxad lived after he begat Salah four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters.

    וְשֶׁלַחve/SHE/lachand Shelahחַיchaylivedשְׁלֹשִׁיםshe/lo/SHIMthirtyשָׁנָהsha/NAyearsוַיּוֹלֶדvay/YO/ledand begatאֶת־עֵבֶר׃et-E/verEber

    And Salah lived thirty years, and begat Eber:

  15. 15

    וַיְחִי־שֶׁלַחvay/CHI-SHE/lachand Shelah livedאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterהוֹלִידוֹho/li/DOhe begatאֶת־עֵבֶרet-E/verEberשָׁלֹשׁsha/LOSHthreeשָׁנִיםsha/NIMyearsוְאַרְבַּעve/ar/BAand fourמֵאוֹתme/OThundredשָׁנָהsha/NAyearsוַיּוֹלֶדvay/YO/ledand begatבָּנִיםba/NIMsonsוּבָנוֹת׃u/va/NOTand daughters

    And Salah lived after he begat Eber four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters.

    וַיְחִי־עֵבֶרvay/CHI-E/verand Eber livedאַרְבַּעar/BAfourוּשְׁלֹשִׁיםu/she/lo/SHIMand thirtyשָׁנָהsha/NAyearsוַיּוֹלֶדvay/YO/ledand begatאֶת־פָּלֶג׃et-PA/legPeleg

    And Eber lived four and thirty years, and begat Peleg:

    וַיְחִי־עֵבֶרvay/CHI-E/verand Eber livedאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterהוֹלִידוֹho/li/DOhe begatאֶת־פֶּלֶגet-PE/legPelegשְׁלֹשִׁיםshe/lo/SHIMthirtyשָׁנָהsha/NAyearsוְאַרְבַּעve/ar/BAand fourמֵאוֹתme/OThundredשָׁנָהsha/NAyearsוַיּוֹלֶדvay/YO/ledand begatבָּנִיםba/NIMsonsוּבָנוֹת׃u/va/NOTand daughters

    And Eber lived after he begat Peleg four hundred and thirty years, and begat sons and daughters.

    וַיְחִי־פֶלֶגvay/CHI-FE/legand Peleg livedשְׁלֹשִׁיםshe/lo/SHIMthirtyשָׁנָהsha/NAyearsוַיּוֹלֶדvay/YO/ledand begatאֶת־רְעוּ׃et-Re/UReu

    And Peleg lived thirty years, and begat Reu:

  19. 19

    וַיְחִי־פֶלֶגvay/CHI-FE/legand Peleg livedאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterהוֹלִידוֹho/li/DOhe begatאֶת־רְעוּet-Re/UReuתֵּשַׁעTE/shanineשָׁנִיםsha/NIMyearsוּמָאתַיִםu/ma/TA/yimand two hundredשָׁנָהsha/NAyearsוַיּוֹלֶדvay/YO/ledand begatבָּנִיםba/NIMsonsוּבָנוֹת׃u/va/NOTand daughters

    And Peleg lived after he begat Reu two hundred and nine years, and begat sons and daughters.

    וַיְחִיvay/CHIand livedרְעוּRe/UReuשְׁתַּיִםSHTA/yimtwoוּשְׁלֹשִׁיםu/she/lo/SHIMand thirtyשָׁנָהsha/NAyearsוַיּוֹלֶדvay/YO/ledand begatאֶת־שְׂרוּג׃et-Se/RUGSerug

    And Reu lived two and thirty years, and begat Serug:

  21. 21

    וַיְחִיvay/CHIand livedרְעוּRe/UReuאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterהוֹלִידוֹho/li/DOhe begatאֶת־שְׂרוּגet-Se/RUGSerugשֶׁבַעSHE/vasevenשָׁנִיםsha/NIMyearsוּמָאתַיִםu/ma/TA/yimand two hundredשָׁנָהsha/NAyearsוַיּוֹלֶדvay/YO/ledand begatבָּנִיםba/NIMsonsוּבָנוֹת׃u/va/NOTand daughters

    And Reu lived after he begat Serug two hundred and seven years, and begat sons and daughters.

    וַיְחִיvay/CHIand livedשְׂרוּגSe/RUGSerugשְׁלֹשִׁיםshe/lo/SHIMthirtyשָׁנָהsha/NAyearsוַיּוֹלֶדvay/YO/ledand begatאֶת־נָחוֹר׃et-Na/CHORNahor

    And Serug lived thirty years, and begat Nahor:

  23. 23

    וַיְחִיvay/CHIand livedשְׂרוּגSe/RUGSerugאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterהוֹלִידוֹho/li/DOhe begatאֶת־נָחוֹרet-Na/CHORNahorמָאתַיִםma/TA/yimtwo hundredשָׁנָהsha/NAyearsוַיּוֹלֶדvay/YO/ledand begatבָּנִיםba/NIMsonsוּבָנוֹת׃u/va/NOTand daughters

    And Serug lived after he begat Nahor two hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.

    וַיְחִיvay/CHIand livedנָחוֹרNa/CHORNahorתֵּשַׁעTE/shanineוְעֶשְׂרִיםve/es/RIMand twentyשָׁנָהsha/NAyearsוַיּוֹלֶדvay/YO/ledand begatאֶת־תָּרַח׃et-TA/rachTerah

    And Nahor lived nine and twenty years, and begat Terah:

  25. 25

    וַיְחִיvay/CHIand livedנָחוֹרNa/CHORNahorאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterהוֹלִידוֹho/li/DOhe begatאֶת־תֶּרַחet-TE/rachTerahתְּשַׁע־עֶשְׂרֵהte/SHA-es/REnineteenשָׁנָהsha/NAyearsוּמְאַתu/me/ATand a hundredשָׁנָהsha/NAyearsוַיּוֹלֶדvay/YO/ledand begatבָּנִיםba/NIMsonsוּבָנוֹת׃u/va/NOTand daughters

    And Nahor lived after he begat Terah an hundred and nineteen years, and begat sons and daughters.

    וַיְחִי־תֶרַחvay/CHI-TE/rachand Terah livedשִׁבְעִיםshiv/IMseventyשָׁנָהsha/NAyearsוַיּוֹלֶדvay/YO/ledand begatאֶת־אַבְרָםet-Av/RAMAbramאֶת־נָחוֹרet-Na/CHORNahorוְאֶת־הָרָן׃ve/ET-ha/RANand Haran

    And Terah lived seventy years, and begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran.

  27. 27

    וְאֵלֶּהve/EL/leand theseתּוֹלְדֹתtol/DOTthe generations ofתֶּרַחTE/rachTerahתֶּרַחTE/rachTerahהוֹלִידho/LIDbegatאֶת־אַבְרָםet-Av/RAMAbramאֶת־נָחוֹרet-Na/CHORNahorוְאֶת־הָרָןve/ET-ha/RANand Haranוְהָרָןve/Ha/RANand Haranהוֹלִידho/LIDbegatאֶת־לוֹט׃et-LotLot

    Now these are the generations of Terah: Terah begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran begat Lot.

    וַיָּמׇתvay/YA/motand diedהָרָןHa/RANHaranעַל־פְּנֵיal-pe/NEbeforeתֶּרַחTE/rachTerahאָבִיוa/VIVhis fatherבְּאֶרֶץbe/E/retsin the land ofמוֹלַדְתּוֹmo/lad/TOhis birthבְּאוּרbe/URin Ur ofכַּשְׂדִּים׃kaS/DIMthe Chaldees

    And Haran died before his father Terah in the land of his nativity, in Ur of the Chaldees.

    וַיִּקַּחvay/yik/KACHand tookאַבְרָםAv/RAMAbramוְנָחוֹרve/Na/CHORand Nahorלָהֶםla/HEMto themנָשִׁיםna/SHIMwivesשֵׁםshemthe name ofאֵשֶׁת־אַבְרָםE/shet-Av/RAMthe wife of AbramשָׂרָיSa/RAYSaraiוְשֵׁםve/SHEMand the name ofאֵשֶׁת־נָחוֹרE/shet-Na/CHORthe wife of NahorמִלְכָּהMil/KAMilcahבַּת־הָרָןbat-Ha/RANthe daughter of Haranאֲבִי־מִלְכָּהa/VI-Mil/KAthe father of Milcahוַאֲבִיva/a/VIand the father ofיִסְכָּה׃Yis/KAIscah

    And Abram and Nahor took them wives: the name of Abram's wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor's wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah, and the father of Iscah.

    וַתְּהִיvat/te/HIand wasשָׂרַיSa/RAYSaraiעֲקָרָהa/ka/RAbarrenאֵיןennotלָהּlato herוָלָד׃va/LADchild

    But Sarai was barren; she had no child.

  31. 31

    וַיִּקַּחvay/yik/KACHand tookתֶּרַחTE/rachTerahאֶת־אַבְרָםet-Av/RAMAbramבְּנוֹbe/NOhis sonוְאֶת־לוֹטve/ET-lotand Lotבֶּן־הָרָןben-Ha/RANthe son of Haranבֶּן־בְּנוֹben-be/NOhis son's sonוְאֵתve/ETandשָׂרַיSa/RAYSaraiכַּלָּתוֹkal/la/TOhis daughter-in-lawאֵשֶׁתE/shetthe wife ofאַבְרָםAv/RAMAbramבְּנוֹbe/NOhis sonוַיֵּצְאוּvay/yets/Uand they went forthאִתָּםit/TAMwith themמֵאוּרme/URfrom Ur ofכַּשְׂדִּיםkaS/DIMthe Chaldeesלָלֶכֶתla/LE/khetto goאַרְצָהAR/tsainto the land ofכְּנַעַןKe/NA/anCanaanוַיָּבֹאוּvay/ya/VO/uand they cameעַד־חָרָןad-Cha/RANunto Haranוַיֵּשְׁבוּvay/yesh/VUand they dweltשָׁם׃shamthere

    And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son's son, and Sarai his daughter in law, his son Abram's wife; and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there.

    וַיִּהְיוּvay/yih/YUand wereיְמֵי־תֶרַחye/ME-TE/rachthe days of Terahחָמֵשׁcha/MESHfiveשָׁנִיםsha/NIMyearsוּמָאתַיִםu/ma/TA/yimand two hundredשָׁנָהsha/NAyearsוַיָּמׇתvay/YA/motand diedתֶּרַחTE/rachTerahבְּחָרָן׃be/Cha/RANin Haran

    And the days of Terah were two hundred and five years: and Terah died in Haran.
