    וְאַחַרand thenבָּאוּcameמֹשֶׁהMosesוְאַהֲרֹןand Aaronוַיֹּאמְרוּand they saidאֶל־פַּרְעֹהto Pharaohכֹּה־אָמַרthus saysיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהֵיthe God ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelשַׁלַּחlet goאֶת־עַמִּיmy peopleוְיָחֹגּוּthat they may hold a feastלִיto meבַּמִּדְבָּר׃in the wilderness

    And afterward Moses and Aaron went in, and told Pharaoh, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Let my people go, that they may hold a feast unto me in the wilderness.

    וַיֹּאמֶרand saidפַּרְעֹהPharaohמִיwhoיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֲשֶׁרwhichאֶשְׁמַעhearבְּקֹלוֹHis voiceלְשַׁלַּחto let goאֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelלֹאnotיָדַעְתִּיI knowאֶת־יְהֹוָהthe LORDוְגַםand alsoאֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelלֹאnotאֲשַׁלֵּחַ׃I will let go

    And Pharaoh said, Who is the LORD, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I know not the LORD, neither will I let Israel go.

    וַיֹּאמְרוּand saidאֱלֹהֵיthe God ofהָעִבְרִיםthe Hebrewsנִקְרָאhas metעָלֵינוּwith usנֵלְכָהlet us goנָּאnowדֶּרֶךְa journey ofשְׁלֹשֶׁתthreeיָמִיםdaysבַּמִּדְבָּרin the wildernessוְנִזְבְּחָהand let us sacrificeלַיהֹוָהto the LORDאֱלֹהֵינוּour Godפֶּן־יִפְגָּעֵנוּlest He fall upon usבַּדֶּבֶרwith the pestilenceאוֹorבֶחָרֶב׃by the sword

    And they said, The God of the Hebrews hath met with us: let us go, we pray thee, three days' journey into the desert, and sacrifice unto the LORD our God; lest he fall upon us with pestilence, or with the sword.

    וַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֲלֵהֶםunto themמֶלֶךְthe king ofמִצְרַיִםEgyptלָמָּהwhyמֹשֶׁהMosesוְאַהֲרֹןand Aaronתַּפְרִיעוּdo you looseאֶת־הָעָםthe peopleמִמַּעֲשָׂיוfrom his worksלְכוּgoלְסִבְלֹתֵיכֶם׃to your burdens

    And the king of Egypt said unto them, Wherefore do ye, Moses and Aaron, let the people from their works? get you unto your burdens.

    וַיֹּאמֶרand saidפַּרְעֹהPharaohהֵן־רַבִּיםyea manyעַתָּהnowעַםthe people ofהָאָרֶץthe landוְהִשְׁבַּתֶּםand you make restאֹתָםthemמִסִּבְלֹתָם׃from their burdens

    And Pharaoh said, Behold, the people of the land now are many, and ye make them rest from their burdens.

    וַיְצַוand commandedפַּרְעֹהPharaohבַּיּוֹםin the dayהַהוּאthatאֶת־הַנֹּגְשִׂיםthe taskmastersבָּעָםover the peopleוְאֶת־שֹׁטְרָיוand his officersלֵאמֹר׃saying

    And Pharaoh commanded the same day the taskmasters of the people, and their officers, saying,

    לֹאnotתֹאסִפוּןyou shall continueלָתֵתto giveתֶּבֶןstrawלָעָםto the peopleלִלְבֹּןto make bricksהַלְּבֵנִיםthe bricksכִּתְמוֹלas yesterdayשִׁלְשֹׁםthree days agoהֵםthey themselvesיֵלְכוּshall goוְקֹשְׁשׁוּand gatherלָהֶםfor themselvesתֶּבֶן׃straw

    Ye shall no more give the people straw to make brick, as heretofore: let them go and gather straw for themselves.

    וְאֶת־מַתְכֹּנֶתand the measurement ofהַלְּבֵנִיםthe bricksאֲשֶׁרwhichהֵםtheyעֹשִׂיםmakeתְּמוֹלyesterdayשִׁלְשֹׁםthree days agoתָּשִׂימוּyou shall lay uponעֲלֵיהֶםthemלֹאnotתִגְרְעוּyou will diminishמִמֶּנּוּfrom itכִּי־נִרְפִּיםfor idle areהֵםtheyעַל־כֵּןthereforeהֵםtheyצֹעֲקִיםare crying outלֵאמֹרsayingנֵלְכָהlet us goנִזְבְּחָהlet us sacrificeלֵאלֹהֵינוּ׃of our God

    And the tale of the bricks, which they did make heretofore, ye shall lay upon them; ye shall not diminish ought thereof: for they be idle; therefore they cry, saying, Let us go and sacrifice to our God.

    תִּכְבַּדlet it be heavierהָעֲבֹדָהthe laborעַל־הָאֲנָשִׁיםupon the menוְיַעֲשׂוּ־בָהּand let them labor in itוְאַל־יִשְׁעוּand let them not regardבְּדִבְרֵי־שָׁקֶר׃words of falsehood

    Let there more work be laid upon the men, that they may labour therein; and let them not regard vain words.

    וַיֵּצְאוּand they departedנֹגְשֵׂיthe taskmasters ofהָעָםthe peopleוְשֹׁטְרָיוand his officersוַיֹּאמְרוּand they saidאֶל־הָעָםto the peopleלֵאמֹרsayingכֹּהthusאָמַרsaidפַּרְעֹהPharaohאֵינֶנִּיI am notנֹתֵןgivingלָכֶםto youתֶּבֶן׃straw

    And the taskmasters of the people went out, and their officers, and they spake to the people, saying, Thus saith Pharaoh, I will not give you straw.

    אַתֶּםyouלְכוּgoקְחוּtakeלָכֶםto youתֶּבֶןstrawמֵאֲשֶׁרfrom whereverתִּמְצָאוּyou can findכִּיbecauseאֵיןthere is notנִגְרָעdiminishedמֵעֲבֹדַתְכֶםfrom your workדָּבָר׃a word

    Go ye, get you straw where ye can find it: yet not ought of your work shall be diminished.

    וַיָּפֶץand scatteredהָעָםthe peopleבְּכׇל־אֶרֶץin all land ofמִצְרָיִםEgyptלְקֹשֵׁשׁto gatherקַשׁstubbleלַתֶּבֶן׃for the straw

    So the people were scattered abroad throughout all the land of Egypt to gather stubble instead of straw.

    וְהַנֹּגְשִׂיםand the taskmastersאָצִיםwere urgentלֵאמֹרsayingכַּלּוּcompleteמַעֲשֵׂיכֶםyour worksדְּבַר־יוֹםthe day's taskבְּיוֹמוֹin its dayכַּאֲשֶׁרasבִּהְיוֹתwhen there wasהַתֶּבֶן׃the straw

    And the taskmasters hasted them, saying, Fulfil your works, your daily tasks, as when there was straw.

    וַיֻּכּוּand were beatenשֹׁטְרֵיthe foremen ofבְּנֵיthe sons ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelאֲשֶׁר־שָׂמוּwhom had setעֲלֵהֶםover themנֹגְשֵׂיthe taskmasters ofפַרְעֹהPharaohלֵאמֹרsayingמַדּוּעַwhyלֹאnotכִלִּיתֶםhave you completedחׇקְכֶםyour taskלִלְבֹּןto make bricksכִּתְמוֹלas yesterdayשִׁלְשֹׁםthree days agoגַּם־תְּמוֹלalso yesterdayגַּם־הַיּוֹם׃also the day

    And the officers of the children of Israel, which Pharaoh's taskmasters had set over them, were beaten, and demanded, Wherefore have ye not fulfilled your task in making brick both yesterday and to day, as heretofore?

  15. 15

    וַיָּבֹאוּand they cameשֹׁטְרֵיthe foremen ofבְּנֵיthe sons ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelוַיִּצְעֲקוּand they cried outאֶל־פַּרְעֹהto Pharaohלֵאמֹרsayingלָמָּהwhyתַעֲשֶׂהdo you dealכֹהthusלַעֲבָדֶיךָ׃with your servants

    Then the officers of the children of Israel came and cried unto Pharaoh, saying, Wherefore dealest thou thus with thy servants?

  16. 16

    תֶּבֶןstrawאֵיןthere is noneנִתָּןgivenלַעֲבָדֶיךָto your servantsוּלְבֵנִיםand bricksאֹמְרִיםthey sayלָנוּto usעֲשׂוּmakeוְהִנֵּהand beholdעֲבָדֶיךָyour servantsמֻכִּיםare beatenוְחָטָאתbut the fault is inעַמֶּךָ׃your people

    There is no straw given unto thy servants, and they say to us, Make brick: and, behold, thy servants are beaten; but the fault is in thine own people.

    וַיֹּאמֶרand saidנִרְפִּיםidle areאַתֶּםyouנִרְפִּיםidleעַל־כֵּןthereforeאַתֶּםyouאֹמְרִיםsayנֵלְכָהlet us goנִזְבְּחָהlet us sacrificeלַיהֹוָה׃to the LORD

    But he said, Ye are idle, ye are idle: therefore ye say, Let us go and do sacrifice to the LORD.

  18. 18

    וְעַתָּהand nowלְכוּgoעִבְדוּworkוְתֶבֶןand strawלֹא־יִנָּתֵןshall not be givenלָכֶםto youוְתֹכֶןand the measurement ofלְבֵנִיםthe bricksתִּתֵּנוּ׃you will give

    Go therefore now, and work; for there shall no straw be given you, yet shall ye deliver the tale of bricks.

  19. 19

    וַיִּרְאוּand they sawשֹׁטְרֵיthe foremen ofבְנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵלsons of Israelאֹתָםthemבְּרָעin evil caseלֵאמֹרsayingלֹא־תִגְרְעוּnot you will diminishמִלִּבְנֵיכֶםfrom your bricksדְּבַר־יוֹםthe day's taskבְּיוֹמוֹ׃in its day

    And the officers of the children of Israel did see that they were in evil case, after it was said, Ye shall not minish ought from your bricks of your daily task.

  20. 20

    וַיִּפְגְּעוּand they metאֶת־מֹשֶׁהMosesוְאֶת־אַהֲרֹןand Aaronנִצָּבִיםstandingלִקְרָאתָםto meet themבְּצֵאתָםas they came outמֵאֵתfromפַּרְעֹה׃Pharaoh

    And they met Moses and Aaron, who stood in the way, as they came forth from Pharaoh:

  21. 21

    וַיֹּאמְרוּand they saidאֲלֵהֶםunto themיֵרֶאmay look uponיְהֹוָהthe LORDעֲלֵיכֶםover youוְיִשְׁפֹּטand may He judgeאֲשֶׁרin thatהִבְאַשְׁתֶּםyou have made abhorrentאֶת־רֵיחֵנוּour aromaבְּעֵינֵיin the eyes ofפַרְעֹהPharaohוּבְעֵינֵיand in the eyes ofעֲבָדָיוhis servantsלָתֶת־חֶרֶבto put a swordבְּיָדָםinto their handsלְהׇרְגֵנוּ׃to kill us

    And they said unto them, The LORD look upon you, and judge; because ye have made our savour to be abhorred in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to slay us.

  22. 22

    וַיָּשׇׁבand returnedמֹשֶׁהMosesאֶל־יְהֹוָהto the LORDוַיֹּאמַרand saidאֲדֹנָיLordלָמָהwhyהֲרֵעֹתָהhave you dealt illלָעָםto the peopleהַזֶּהthisלָמָּהwhyזֶּהis it thatשְׁלַחְתָּנִי׃you sent me

    And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said, Lord, wherefore hast thou so evil entreated this people? why is it that thou hast sent me?

  23. 23

    וּמֵאָזand sinceבָּאתִיI cameאֶל־פַּרְעֹהto Pharaohלְדַבֵּרto speakבִּשְׁמֶךָin your nameהֵרַעhe has done evilלָעָםto the peopleהַזֶּהthisוְהַצֵּלand deliverלֹא־הִצַּלְתָּyou have not deliveredאֶת־עַמֶּךָ׃your people

    For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in thy name, he hath done evil to this people; neither hast thou delivered thy people at all.
