Esther 5 אֶסְתֵּר פרק ה׳

   Now it came to pass on the third day, that Esther put on her royal apparel, and stood in the inner court of the king's house, over against the king's house: and the king sat upon his royal throne in the royal house, over against the gate of the house.

   וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passכִרְאוֹתkhir/OTwhen sawהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingאֶת־אֶסְתֵּרet-Es/TEREstherהַמַּלְכָּהham/mal/KAthe queenעֹמֶדֶתo/ME/detstandingבֶּחָצֵרbe/cha/TSERin the courtנָשְׂאָהna/se/Ashe obtainedחֵןchenfavorבְּעֵינָיוbe/e/NAYVin his eyesוַיּוֹשֶׁטvay/YO/shetand held outהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingלְאֶסְתֵּרle/Es/TERto Estherאֶת־שַׁרְבִיטet-shar/VITthe scepter ofהַזָּהָבhaz/za/HAVgoldenאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichבְּיָדוֹbe/ya/DOin his handוַתִּקְרַבvat/tik/RAVand drew nearאֶסְתֵּרEs/TEREstherוַתִּגַּעvat/tig/GAand touchedבְּרֹאשׁbe/ROSHthe top ofהַשַּׁרְבִיט׃hash/shar/VITthe scepter

   And it was so, when the king saw Esther the queen standing in the court, that she obtained favour in his sight: and the king held out to Esther the golden sceptre that was in his hand. So Esther drew near, and touched the top of the sceptre.

3. 3

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidלָהּlato herהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingמַה־לָּךְma-lakhwhat will youאֶסְתֵּרEs/TEREstherהַמַּלְכָּהham/mal/KAthe queenוּמַה־בַּקָּשָׁתֵךְu/MA-bak/ka/sha/TEKHand what is your requestעַד־חֲצִיad-cha/TSIeven to the half ofהַמַּלְכוּתham/mal/KHUTthe kingdomוְיִנָּתֵןve/yin/NA/tenand it shall be givenלָךְ׃lakhto you

   Then said the king unto her, What wilt thou, queen Esther? and what is thy request? it shall be even given thee to the half of the kingdom.

   וַתֹּאמֶרvat/TO/merand saidאֶסְתֵּרEs/TEREstherאִם־עַל־הַמֶּלֶךְim-al-ham/ME/lekhif to the kingטוֹבtovit seem goodיָבוֹאya/VOlet comeהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingוְהָמָןve/Ha/MANand Hamanהַיּוֹםhay/YOMthis dayאֶל־הַמִּשְׁתֶּהel-ham/mish/TEto the feastאֲשֶׁר־עָשִׂיתִיa/SHER-a/SI/tithat I have preparedלוֹ׃lofor him

   And Esther answered, If it seem good unto the king, let the king and Haman come this day unto the banquet that I have prepared for him.

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingמַהֲרוּma/ha/RUcause to make hasteאֶת־הָמָןet-Ha/MANHamanלַעֲשׂוֹתla/a/SOTto doאֶת־דְּבַרet-de/VARthe word ofאֶסְתֵּרEs/TEREstherוַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand cameהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingוְהָמָןve/Ha/MANand Hamanאֶל־הַמִּשְׁתֶּהel-ham/mish/TEto the feastאֲשֶׁר־עָשְׂתָהa/SHER-a/se/TAthat had preparedאֶסְתֵּר׃Es/TEREsther

   Then the king said, Cause Haman to make haste, that he may do as Esther hath said. So the king and Haman came to the banquet that Esther had prepared.

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingלְאֶסְתֵּרle/Es/TERto Estherבְּמִשְׁתֵּהbe/mish/TEat the feast ofהַיַּיִןhay/YA/yinthe wineמַה־שְּׁאֵלָתֵךְma-she/e/la/TEKHwhat is your petitionוְיִנָּתֵןve/yin/NA/tenand it shall be grantedלָךְlakhto youוּמַה־בַּקָּשָׁתֵךְu/MA-bak/ka/sha/TEKHand what is your requestעַד־חֲצִיad-cha/TSIeven to the half ofהַמַּלְכוּתham/mal/KHUTthe kingdomוְתֵעָשׂ׃ve/te/ASand it shall be performed

   And the king said unto Esther at the banquet of wine, What is thy petition? and it shall be granted thee: and what is thy request? even to the half of the kingdom it shall be performed.

   וַתַּעַןvat/TA/anand she answeredאֶסְתֵּרEs/TEREstherוַתֹּאמַרvat/to/MARand she saidשְׁאֵלָתִיshe/e/la/TImy petitionוּבַקָּשָׁתִי׃u/vak/ka/sha/TIand my request

   Then answered Esther, and said, My petition and my request is;

   אִם־מָצָאתִיim-ma/TSA/tiif I have foundחֵןchenfavorבְּעֵינֵיbe/e/NEin the eyes ofהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingוְאִם־עַל־הַמֶּלֶךְve/IM-al-ham/ME/lekhand if to the kingטוֹבtovit seem goodלָתֵתla/TETto giveאֶת־שְׁאֵלָתִיet-she/e/la/TImy petitionוְלַעֲשׂוֹתve/la/a/SOTand to performאֶת־בַּקָּשָׁתִיet-bak/ka/sha/TImy requestיָבוֹאya/VOlet comeהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingוְהָמָןve/Ha/MANand Hamanאֶל־הַמִּשְׁתֶּהel-ham/mish/TEto the feastאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatאֶעֱשֶׂהe/e/SEI shall prepareלָהֶםla/HEMfor themוּמָחָרu/ma/CHARand on the morrowאֶעֱשֶׂהe/e/SEI will doכִּדְבַרkid/VARaccording to the word ofהַמֶּלֶךְ׃ham/ME/lekhthe king

   If I have found favour in the sight of the king, and if it please the king to grant my petition, and to perform my request, let the king and Haman come to the banquet that I shall prepare for them, and I will do to morrow as the king hath said.

   וַיֵּצֵאvay/ye/TSEand went outהָמָןHa/MANHamanבַּיּוֹםbay/YOMin the dayהַהוּאha/HUthatשָׂמֵחַsa/ME/achjoyfulוְטוֹבve/TOVand glad ofלֵבlevheartוְכִרְאוֹתve/khir/OTand when sawהָמָןHa/MANHamanאֶת־מׇרְדֳּכַיet-Mor/do/KHAYMordecaiבְּשַׁעַרbe/SHA/arin the gate ofהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingוְלֹא־קָםve/LO-kamthat he stood not upוְלֹא־זָעve/LO-zanor movedמִמֶּנּוּmim/MEN/nufor himוַיִּמָּלֵאvay/yim/ma/LEand was filledהָמָןHa/MANHamanעַל־מׇרְדֳּכַיal-Mor/do/KHAYagainst Mordecaiחֵמָה׃che/MAwith wrath

   Then went Haman forth that day joyful and with a glad heart: but when Haman saw Mordecai in the king's gate, that he stood not up, nor moved for him, he was full of indignation against Mordecai.

    וַיִּתְאַפַּקvay/yit/ap/PAKand he restrained himselfהָמָןHa/MANHamanוַיָּבוֹאvay/ya/VOand he cameאֶל־בֵּיתוֹel-be/TOto his houseוַיִּשְׁלַחvay/yish/LACHand he sentוַיָּבֵאvay/ya/VEand broughtאֶת־אֹהֲבָיוet-o/ha/VAYVhis friendsוְאֶת־זֶרֶשׁve/ET-ZE/reshand Zereshאִשְׁתּוֹ׃ish/TOhis wife

    Nevertheless Haman refrained himself: and when he came home, he sent and called for his friends, and Zeresh his wife.

    וַיְסַפֵּרvay/sap/PERand toldלָהֶםla/HEMto themהָמָןHa/MANHamanאֶת־כְּבוֹדet-ke/VODthe glory ofעׇשְׁרוֹosh/ROhis richesוְרֹבve/ROVand the multitude ofבָּנָיוba/NAYVhis sonsוְאֵתve/ETandכׇּל־אֲשֶׁרkol-a/SHERall thatגִּדְּלוֹgid/de/LOhad promoted himהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingוְאֵתve/ETandאֲשֶׁרa/SHERhowנִשְּׂאוֹnis/se/Ohe had advanced himעַל־הַשָּׂרִיםal-has/sa/RIMabove the princesוְעַבְדֵיve/av/DEand the servants ofהַמֶּלֶךְ׃ham/ME/lekhthe king

    And Haman told them of the glory of his riches, and the multitude of his children, and all the things wherein the king had promoted him, and how he had advanced him above the princes and servants of the king.

12. 12

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidהָמָןHa/MANHamanאַףafyeaלֹא־הֵבִיאָהlo-he/VI/adid not bringאֶסְתֵּרEs/TEREstherהַמַּלְכָּהham/mal/KAthe queenעִם־הַמֶּלֶךְim-ham/ME/lekhwith the kingאֶל־הַמִּשְׁתֶּהel-ham/mish/TEto the feastאֲשֶׁר־עָשָׂתָהa/SHER-a/SA/tathat she had preparedכִּיkibutאִם־אוֹתִיim-o/TIonly meוְגַם־לְמָחָרve/GAM-le/ma/CHARand tomorrow alsoאֲנִיa/NIIקָרוּא־לָהּka/RU-laam invited by herעִם־הַמֶּלֶךְ׃im-ham/ME/lekhwith the king

    Haman said moreover, Yea, Esther the queen did let no man come in with the king unto the banquet that she had prepared but myself; and to morrow am I invited unto her also with the king.

13. 13

    וְכׇל־זֶהve/KHOL-zeand all thisאֵינֶנּוּe/NEN/nuis notשֹׁוֶהsho/VEworthלִיlito meבְּכׇל־עֵתbe/KHOL-etat every timeאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatאֲנִיa/NIIרֹאֶהro/Eseeאֶת־מׇרְדֳּכַיet-Mor/do/KHAYMordecaiהַיְּהוּדִיhay/Ye/hu/DIthe Jewיוֹשֵׁבyo/SHEVsittingבְּשַׁעַרbe/SHA/arin the gate ofהַמֶּלֶךְ׃ham/ME/lekhthe king

    Yet all this availeth me nothing, so long as I see Mordecai the Jew sitting at the king's gate.

14. 14

    וַתֹּאמֶרvat/TO/merand saidלוֹloto himזֶרֶשׁZE/reshZereshאִשְׁתּוֹish/TOhis wifeוְכׇל־אֹהֲבָיוve/KHOL-o/ha/VAYVand all his friendsיַעֲשׂוּ־עֵץya/a/SU-etslet a gallows be madeגָּבֹהַּga/VO/ahhighחֲמִשִּׁיםcha/mish/SHIMfiftyאַמָּהam/MAcubitsוּבַבֹּקֶרu/vab/BO/kerand in the morningאֱמֹרe/MORspeakלַמֶּלֶךְlam/ME/lekhto the kingוְיִתְלוּve/yit/LUthat they may hangאֶת־מׇרְדֳּכַיet-Mor/do/KHAYMordecaiעָלָיוa/LAYVon itוּבֹא־עִם־הַמֶּלֶךְu/VO-im-ham/ME/lekhand go in with the kingאֶל־הַמִּשְׁתֶּהel-ham/mish/TEto the feastשָׂמֵחַsa/ME/achjoyfulוַיִּיטַבvay/yi/TAVand pleasedהַדָּבָרhad/da/VARthe thingלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeהָמָןHa/MANHamanוַיַּעַשׂvay/YA/asand he madeהָעֵץ׃ha/ETSthe gallows

    Then said Zeresh his wife and all his friends unto him, Let a gallows be made of fifty cubits high, and to morrow speak thou unto the king that Mordecai may be hanged thereon: then go thou in merrily with the king unto the banquet. And the thing pleased Haman; and he caused the gallows to be made.
