   כִּי־יַכְרִיתki-yakh/RITwhen has cut offיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֱלֹהֶיךָe/lo/HE/khayour Godאֶת־הַגּוֹיִםet-hag/go/YIMthe nationsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoseיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֱלֹהֶיךָe/lo/HE/khayour Godנֹתֵןno/TENis givingלְךָle/KHAyouאֶת־אַרְצָםet-ar/TSAMlandוִירִשְׁתָּםvi/rish/TAMand you succeed themוְיָשַׁבְתָּve/ya/shav/TAand dwellבְעָרֵיהֶםve/a/re/HEMin their citiesוּבְבָתֵּיהֶם׃u/ve/vat/te/HEMand in their houses

   When the LORD thy God hath cut off the nations, whose land the LORD thy God giveth thee, and thou succeedest them, and dwellest in their cities, and in their houses;

   שָׁלוֹשׁsha/LOSHthreeעָרִיםa/RIMcitiesתַּבְדִּילtav/DILyou shall set apartלָךְlakhfor yourselfבְּתוֹךְbe/TOKHin the midst ofאַרְצְךָar/tse/KHAyour landאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֱלֹהֶיךָe/lo/HE/khayour Godנֹתֵןno/TENis givingלְךָle/KHAyouלְרִשְׁתָּהּ׃le/rish/TAto possess it

   Thou shalt separate three cities for thee in the midst of thy land, which the LORD thy God giveth thee to possess it.

   תָּכִיןta/KHINyou shall prepareלְךָle/KHAyourselfהַדֶּרֶךְhad/DE/rekhthe wayוְשִׁלַּשְׁתָּve/shil/lash/TAand divide into three partsאֶת־גְּבוּלet-ge/VULthe territory ofאַרְצְךָar/tse/KHAyour landאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichיַנְחִילְךָyan/chi/le/KHAgives you to inheritיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֱלֹהֶיךָe/lo/HE/khayour Godוְהָיָהve/ha/YAthat mayלָנוּסla/NUSfleeשָׁמָּהSHAM/mathereכׇּל־רֹצֵחַ׃kol-ro/TSE/achevery manslayer

   Thou shalt prepare thee a way, and divide the coasts of thy land, which the LORD thy God giveth thee to inherit, into three parts, that every slayer may flee thither.

   וְזֶהve/ZEand this isדְּבַרde/VARthe case ofהָרֹצֵחַha/ro/TSE/achthe manslayerאֲשֶׁר־יָנוּסa/SHER-ya/NUSwho shall fleeשָׁמָּהSHAM/mathereוָחָיva/CHAYthat he may liveאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoeverיַכֶּהyak/KEkillsאֶת־רֵעֵהוּet-re/E/huhis neighborבִּבְלִי־דַעַתbiv/LI-DA/atunawaresוְהוּאve/HUand heלֹא־שֹׂנֵאlo-so/NEhated notלוֹlohimמִתְּמֹלmit/te/MOLin timeשִׁלְשֹׁם׃shil/SHOMpast

   And this is the case of the slayer, which shall flee thither, that he may live: Whoso killeth his neighbour ignorantly, whom he hated not in time past;

   וַאֲשֶׁרva/a/SHERas whenיָבֹאya/VOgoesאֶת־רֵעֵהוּet-re/E/huwith his neighborבַיַּעַרvay/YA/arinto the forestלַחְטֹבlach/TOVto cutעֵצִיםe/TSIMwoodוְנִדְּחָהve/nid/de/CHAand swingsיָדוֹya/DOhis handבַגַּרְזֶןvag/gar/ZENwith the axeלִכְרֹתlikh/ROTto cut downהָעֵץha/ETSthe treeוְנָשַׁלve/na/SHALand slipsהַבַּרְזֶלhab/bar/ZELthe ironמִן־הָעֵץmin-ha/ETSfrom the woodוּמָצָאu/ma/TSAand strikesאֶת־רֵעֵהוּet-re/E/huhis neighborוָמֵתva/METso that he diesהוּאhuheיָנוּסya/NUSshall fleeאֶל־אַחַתel-a/CHATto one ofהֶעָרִים־הָאֵלֶּהhe/a/RIM-ha/EL/lethese citiesוָחָי׃va/CHAYand live

   As when a man goeth into the wood with his neighbour to hew wood, and his hand fetcheth a stroke with the axe to cut down the tree, and the head slippeth from the helve, and lighteth upon his neighbour, that he die; he shall flee unto one of those cities, and live:

   פֶּן־יִרְדֹּףpen-yir/DOFlest pursueגֹּאֵלgo/ELthe avenger ofהַדָּםhad/DAMthe bloodאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterהָרֹצֵחַha/ro/TSE/achthe manslayerכִּי־יֵחַםki-ye/CHAMwhile is hotלְבָבוֹle/va/VOhis heartוְהִשִּׂיגוֹve/his/si/GOand overtake himכִּי־יִרְבֶּהki-yir/BEbecause is longהַדֶּרֶךְhad/DE/rekhthe wayוְהִכָּהוּve/hik/KA/huand strike himנָפֶשׁNA/feshmortallyוְלוֹve/LOwhereas heאֵיןenwas notמִשְׁפַּט־מָוֶתmish/PAT-MA/vetworthy of deathכִּיkibecauseלֹאlonotשֹׂנֵאso/NEhatedהוּאhuheלוֹlohimמִתְּמוֹלmit/te/MOLin timeשִׁלְשׁוֹם׃shil/SHOMpast

   Lest the avenger of the blood pursue the slayer, while his heart is hot, and overtake him, because the way is long, and slay him; whereas he was not worthy of death, inasmuch as he hated him not in time past.

   עַל־כֵּןal-kenthereforeאָנֹכִיa/no/KHIIמְצַוְּךָme/tsav/ve/KHAcommand youלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingשָׁלֹשׁsha/LOSHthreeעָרִיםa/RIMcitiesתַּבְדִּילtav/DILyou shall set apartלָךְ׃lakhfor yourself

   Wherefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt separate three cities for thee.

8. 8

   וְאִם־יַרְחִיבve/IM-yar/CHIVand if enlargesיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֱלֹהֶיךָe/lo/HE/khayour Godאֶת־גְּבֻלְךָet-ge/vul/KHAyour borderכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERasנִשְׁבַּעnish/BAsworeלַאֲבֹתֶיךָla/a/vo/TE/khato your fathersוְנָתַןve/na/TANand givesלְךָle/KHAyouאֶת־כׇּל־הָאָרֶץet-kol-ha/A/retsall the landאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichדִּבֶּרdib/BERHe promisedלָתֵתla/TETto giveלַאֲבֹתֶיךָ׃la/a/vo/TE/khato your fathers

   And if the LORD thy God enlarge thy coast, as he hath sworn unto thy fathers, and give thee all the land which he promised to give unto thy fathers;

9. 9

   כִּי־תִשְׁמֹרki-tish/MORif you keepאֶת־כׇּל־הַמִּצְוָהet-kol-ham/mits/VAall the commandmentהַזֹּאתhaz/ZOTthisלַעֲשֹׂתָהּla/a/so/TAto do itאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichאָנֹכִיa/no/KHIIמְצַוְּךָme/tsav/ve/KHAcommand youהַיּוֹםhay/YOMthis dayלְאַהֲבָהle/a/ha/VAto loveאֶת־יְהֹוָהet-Adonaithe LORDאֱלֹהֶיךָe/lo/HE/khayour Godוְלָלֶכֶתve/la/LE/khetand to walkבִּדְרָכָיוbid/ra/KHAYVin His waysכׇּל־הַיָּמִיםkol-hay/ya/MIMalwaysוְיָסַפְתָּve/ya/saf/TAthen you shall addלְךָle/KHAfor yourselfעוֹדodmoreשָׁלֹשׁsha/LOSHthreeעָרִיםa/RIMcitiesעַלalbesidesהַשָּׁלֹשׁhash/sha/LOSHthe threeהָאֵלֶּה׃ha/EL/lethese

   If thou shalt keep all these commandments to do them, which I command thee this day, to love the LORD thy God, and to walk ever in his ways; then shalt thou add three cities more for thee, beside these three:

10. 10

    וְלֹאve/LOthat notיִשָּׁפֵךְyish/sha/FEKHbe shedדָּםdambloodנָקִיna/KIinnocentבְּקֶרֶבbe/KE/revinאַרְצְךָar/tse/KHAyour landאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֱלֹהֶיךָe/lo/HE/khayour Godנֹתֵןno/TENis givingלְךָle/KHAyouנַחֲלָהna/cha/LAfor an inheritanceוְהָיָהve/ha/YAand so beעָלֶיךָa/LE/khaupon youדָּמִים׃da/MIMblood

    That innocent blood be not shed in thy land, which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance, and so blood be upon thee.

11. 11

    וְכִי־יִהְיֶהve/KHI-yih/YEbut if there isאִישׁisha manשֹׂנֵאso/NEhatingלְרֵעֵהוּle/re/E/huhis neighborוְאָרַבve/A/ravand lies in waitלוֹlofor himוְקָםve/KAMand rises upעָלָיוa/LAYVagainst himוְהִכָּהוּve/hik/KA/huand strikes himנֶפֶשׁNE/feshmortallyוָמֵתva/METso that he diesוְנָסve/NASand fleesאֶל־אַחַתel-a/CHATto one ofהֶעָרִיםhe/a/RIMthe citiesהָאֵל׃ha/ELthese

    But if any man hate his neighbour, and lie in wait for him, and rise up against him, and smite him mortally that he die, and fleeth into one of these cities:

12. 12

    וְשָׁלְחוּve/sha/le/CHUthen shall sendזִקְנֵיzik/NEthe elders ofעִירוֹi/ROhis cityוְלָקְחוּve/la/ke/CHUand fetchאֹתוֹo/TOhimמִשָּׁםmish/SHAMfrom thereוְנָתְנוּve/na/te/NUand deliverאֹתוֹo/TOhimבְּיַדbe/YADinto the hand ofגֹּאֵלgo/ELthe avenger ofהַדָּםhad/DAMthe bloodוָמֵת׃va/METthat he may die

    Then the elders of his city shall send and fetch him thence, and deliver him into the hand of the avenger of blood, that he may die.

13. 13

    לֹא־תָחוֹסlo-ta/CHOSshall not pityעֵינְךָe/ne/KHAyour eyeעָלָיוa/LAYVhimוּבִעַרְתָּu/vi/ar/TAbut you shall put awayדַם־הַנָּקִיdam-han/na/KIthe innocent bloodמִיִּשְׂרָאֵלmiy/Yis/ra/ELfrom Israelוְטוֹבve/TOVthat it may go wellלָךְ׃lakhwith you

    Thine eye shall not pity him, but thou shalt put away the guilt of innocent blood from Israel, that it may go well with thee.

14. 14

    לֹאlonotתַסִּיגtas/SIGshall you removeגְּבוּלge/VULthe landmark ofרֵעֲךָre/a/KHAyour neighborאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichגָּבְלוּga/ve/LUhave setרִאשֹׁנִיםri/sho/NIMthey of oldבְּנַחֲלָתְךָbe/na/cha/la/te/KHAin your inheritanceאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichתִּנְחַלtin/CHALyou shall inheritבָּאָרֶץba/A/retsin the landאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֱלֹהֶיךָe/lo/HE/khayour Godנֹתֵןno/TENis givingלְךָle/KHAyouלְרִשְׁתָּהּ׃le/rish/TAto possess it

    Thou shalt not remove thy neighbour's landmark, which they of old time have set in thine inheritance, which thou shalt inherit in the land that the LORD thy God giveth thee to possess it.

15. 15

    לֹא־יָקוּםlo-ya/KUMshall not rise upעֵדedwitnessאֶחָדe/CHADoneבְּאִישׁbe/ISHagainst a manלְכׇל־עָוֺןle/KHOL-a/VONfor any iniquityוּלְכׇל־חַטָּאתu/le/KHOL-chat/TATor for any sinבְּכׇל־חֵטְאbe/KHOL-chetin any sinאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatיֶחֱטָאye/che/TAhe sinsעַל־פִּיal-piat the mouth ofשְׁנֵיshe/NEtwoעֵדִיםe/DIMwitnessesאוֹoorעַל־פִּיal-piat the mouth ofשְׁלֹשָׁה־עֵדִיםshe/lo/SHA-e/DIMthree witnessesיָקוּםya/KUMshall be establishedדָּבָר׃da/VARa matter

    One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, or for any sin, in any sin that he sinneth: at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall the matter be established.

16. 16

    כִּי־יָקוּםki-ya/KUMif rises upעֵד־חָמָסed-cha/MASa false witnessבְּאִישׁbe/ISHagainst a manלַעֲנוֹתla/a/NOTto testifyבּוֹboagainst himסָרָה׃sa/RAwrongdoing

    If a false witness rise up against any man to testify against him that which is wrong;

17. 17

    וְעָמְדוּve/a/me/DUthen shall standשְׁנֵי־הָאֲנָשִׁיםshe/NE-ha/a/na/SHIMthe two menאֲשֶׁר־לָהֶםa/SHER-la/HEMbetween whomהָרִיבha/RIVthe controversy isלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeהַכֹּהֲנִיםhak/ko/ha/NIMthe priestsוְהַשֹּׁפְטִיםve/hash/shof/TIMand the judgesאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoיִהְיוּyih/YUshall beבַּיָּמִיםbay/ya/MIMin the daysהָהֵם׃ha/HEMthose

    Then both the men, between whom the controversy is, shall stand before the LORD, before the priests and the judges, which shall be in those days;

18. 18

    וְדָרְשׁוּve/da/re/SHUand shall inquireהַשֹּׁפְטִיםhash/shof/TIMthe judgesהֵיטֵבhe/TEVdiligentlyוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdעֵד־שֶׁקֶרed-SHE/kera false witnessהָעֵדha/EDis the witnessשֶׁקֶרSHE/kerfalselyעָנָהa/NAhas testifiedבְאָחִיו׃ve/a/CHIVagainst his brother

    And the judges shall make diligent inquisition: and, behold, if the witness be a false witness, and hath testified falsely against his brother;

19. 19

    וַעֲשִׂיתֶםva/a/si/TEMthen you shall doלוֹloto himכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERasזָמַםza/MAMhe had thoughtלַעֲשׂוֹתla/a/SOTto doלְאָחִיוle/a/CHIVto his brotherוּבִעַרְתָּu/vi/ar/TAso you shall put awayהָרָעha/RAthe evilמִקִּרְבֶּךָ׃mik/kir/BE/khafrom among you

    Then shall ye do unto him, as he had thought to have done unto his brother: so shalt thou put the evil away from among you.

20. 20

    וְהַנִּשְׁאָרִיםve/han/nish/a/RIMand those who remainיִשְׁמְעוּyish/me/Ushall hearוְיִרָאוּve/yi/RA/uand fearוְלֹא־יֹסִפוּve/LO-yo/SI/fuand shall not againלַעֲשׂוֹתla/a/SOTcommitעוֹדodhenceforthכַּדָּבָרkad/da/VARany such thingהָרָעha/RAevilהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisבְּקִרְבֶּךָ׃be/kir/BE/khaamong you

    And those which remain shall hear, and fear, and shall henceforth commit no more any such evil among you.

21. 21

    וְלֹאve/LOand notתָחוֹסta/CHOSshall pityעֵינֶךָe/NE/khayour eyeנֶפֶשׁNE/feshlifeבְּנֶפֶשׁbe/NE/feshfor lifeעַיִןA/yineyeבְּעַיִןbe/A/yinfor eyeשֵׁןshentoothבְּשֵׁןbe/SHENfor toothיָדyadhandבְּיָדbe/YADfor handרֶגֶלRE/gelfootבְּרָגֶל׃be/RA/gelfor foot

    And thine eye shall not pity; but life shall go for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.
