Daniel 8 דָּנִיֵּאל פרק ח׳

   In the third year of the reign of king Belshazzar a vision appeared unto me, even unto me Daniel, after that which appeared unto me at the first.

2. 2

   וָאֶרְאֶהva/er/Eand I sawבֶּחָזוֹןbe/cha/ZONin the visionוַיְהִיvay/HIand it wasבִּרְאֹתִיbir/o/TIwhen I sawוַאֲנִיva/a/NIand I wasבְּשׁוּשַׁןbe/Shu/SHANin Shushanהַבִּירָהhab/bi/RAthe citadelאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhich isבְּעֵילָםbe/E/LAMin Elamהַמְּדִינָהham/me/di/NAthe provinceוָאֶרְאֶהva/er/Eand I sawבֶּחָזוֹןbe/cha/ZONin the visionוַאֲנִיva/a/NIand Iהָיִיתִיha/YI/tiwasעַל־אוּבַלal-u/VALby the canal ofאוּלָי׃U/LAYUlai

   And I saw in a vision; and it came to pass, when I saw, that I was at Shushan in the palace, which is in the province of Elam; and I saw in a vision, and I was by the river of Ulai.

   Then I lifted up mine eyes, and saw, and, behold, there stood before the river a ram which had two horns: and the two horns were high; but one was higher than the other, and the higher came up last.

   I saw the ram pushing westward, and northward, and southward; so that no beasts might stand before him, neither was there any that could deliver out of his hand; but he did according to his will, and became great.

   And as I was considering, behold, an he goat came from the west on the face of the whole earth, and touched not the ground: and the goat had a notable horn between his eyes.

   וַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand it cameעַד־הָאַיִלad-ha/A/yilto the ramבַּעַלBA/althat hadהַקְּרָנַיִםhak/ke/ra/NA/yimthe two hornsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatרָאִיתִיra/I/tiI sawעֹמֵדo/MEDstandingלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeהָאֻבָלha/u/VALthe canalוַיָּרׇץvay/YA/rotsand ranאֵלָיוe/LAYVat itבַּחֲמַתba/cha/MATin the fury ofכֹּחוֹ׃ko/CHOits power

   And he came to the ram that had two horns, which I had seen standing before the river, and ran unto him in the fury of his power.

   And I saw him come close unto the ram, and he was moved with choler against him, and smote the ram, and brake his two horns: and there was no power in the ram to stand before him, but he cast him down to the ground, and stamped upon him: and there was none that could deliver the ram out of his hand.

   וּצְפִירu/tse/FIRand the male goat ofהָעִזִּיםha/iz/ZIMthe goatsהִגְדִּילhig/DILbecame greatעַד־מְאֹדad-me/ODexceedinglyוּכְעׇצְמוֹu/khe/ots/MOand when it was strongנִשְׁבְּרָהnish/be/RAwas brokenהַקֶּרֶןhak/KE/renthe hornהַגְּדֹלָהhag/ge/do/LAgreatוַתַּעֲלֶנָהvat/ta/a/LE/naand came upחָזוּתcha/ZUTconspicuous onesאַרְבַּעar/BAfourתַּחְתֶּיהָtach/TE/hain its placeלְאַרְבַּעle/ar/BAtoward the fourרוּחוֹתru/CHOTwinds ofהַשָּׁמָיִם׃hash/sha/MA/yimthe heavens

   Therefore the he goat waxed very great: and when he was strong, the great horn was broken; and for it came up four notable ones toward the four winds of heaven.

   וּמִן־הָאַחַתu/MIN-ha/a/CHATand from oneמֵהֶםme/HEMof themיָצָאya/TSAcame outקֶרֶן־אַחַתKE/ren-a/CHATa hornמִצְּעִירָהmits/tse/i/RAsmallוַתִּגְדַּל־יֶתֶרvat/tig/DAL-YE/terand it grew exceedinglyאֶל־הַנֶּגֶבel-han/NE/gevtoward the southוְאֶל־הַמִּזְרָחve/EL-ham/miz/RACHand toward the eastוְאֶל־הַצֶּבִי׃ve/EL-hats/TSE/viand toward the glorious land

   And out of one of them came forth a little horn, which waxed exceeding great, toward the south, and toward the east, and toward the pleasant land.

10. 10

    וַתִּגְדַּלvat/tig/DALand it grewעַד־צְבָאad-tse/VAup to the host ofהַשָּׁמָיִםhash/sha/MA/yimthe heavensוַתַּפֵּלvat/tap/PELand it cast downאַרְצָהAR/tsato the earthמִן־הַצָּבָאmin-hats/tsa/VAsome of the hostוּמִן־הַכּוֹכָבִיםu/MIN-hak/ko/kha/VIMand of the starsוַתִּרְמְסֵם׃vat/tir/me/SEMand it trampled them

    And it waxed great, even to the host of heaven; and it cast down some of the host and of the stars to the ground, and stamped upon them.

11. 11

    וְעַדve/ADand evenשַׂר־הַצָּבָאsar-hats/tsa/VAthe prince of the hostהִגְדִּילhig/DILit magnified itselfוּמִמֶּנּוּu/mim/MEN/nuand from him(הרים)harayam[הוּרַם]hu/RAMwas taken awayהַתָּמִידhat/ta/MIDthe continual offeringוְהֻשְׁלַךְve/hush/LAKHand was cast downמְכוֹןme/KHONthe place ofמִקְדָּשׁוֹ׃mik/da/SHOhis sanctuary

    Yea, he magnified himself even to the prince of the host, and by him the daily sacrifice was taken away, and the place of his sanctuary was cast down.

12. 12

    וְצָבָאve/tsa/VAand a hostתִּנָּתֵןtin/na/TENwas givenעַל־הַתָּמִידal-hat/ta/MIDagainst the continual offeringבְּפָשַׁעbe/FA/shathrough transgressionוְתַשְׁלֵךְve/tash/LEKHand it cast downאֱמֶתe/METtruthאַרְצָהAR/tsato the earthוְעָשְׂתָהve/a/se/TAand it actedוְהִצְלִיחָה׃ve/hits/LI/chaand prospered

    And an host was given him against the daily sacrifice by reason of transgression, and it cast down the truth to the ground; and it practised, and prospered.

13. 13

    וָאֶשְׁמְעָהva/esh/me/Aand I heardאֶחָד־קָדוֹשׁe/CHAD-ka/DOSHa holy oneמְדַבֵּרme/dab/BERspeakingוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֶחָדe/CHADoneקָדוֹשׁka/DOSHholyלַפַּלְמוֹנִיlap/pal/mo/NIto that certain oneהַמְדַבֵּרham/dab/BERwho spokeעַד־מָתַיad-ma/TAYhow longהֶחָזוֹןhe/cha/ZONis the visionהַתָּמִידhat/ta/MIDof the continual offeringוְהַפֶּשַׁעve/hap/PE/shaand the transgressionשֹׁמֵםsho/MEMthat makes desolateתֵּתtetto giveוְקֹדֶשׁve/KO/deshboth the sanctuaryוְצָבָאve/tsa/VAand the hostמִרְמָס׃mir/MASto be trampled

    Then I heard one saint speaking, and another saint said unto that certain saint which spake, How long shall be the vision concerning the daily sacrifice, and the transgression of desolation, to give both the sanctuary and the host to be trodden under foot?

14. 14

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֵלַיe/LAYto meעַדaduntilעֶרֶבE/reveveningבֹּקֶרBO/kermorningאַלְפַּיִםal/PA/yimtwo thousandוּשְׁלֹשׁu/she/LOSHand threeמֵאוֹתme/OThundredוְנִצְדַּקve/nits/DAKthen will be put rightקֹדֶשׁ׃KO/deshthe sanctuary

    And he said unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed.

15. 15

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it wasבִּרְאֹתִיbir/o/TIwhen I sawאֲנִיa/NIIדָנִיֵּאלDa/niy/YELDanielאֶת־הֶחָזוֹןet-he/cha/ZONthe visionוָאֲבַקְשָׁהva/a/vak/SHAand I soughtבִינָהvi/NAunderstandingוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdעֹמֵדo/MEDstandingלְנֶגְדִּיle/neg/DIbefore meכְּמַרְאֵה־גָבֶר׃ke/mar/E-GA/verlike the appearance of a man

    And it came to pass, when I, even I Daniel, had seen the vision, and sought for the meaning, then, behold, there stood before me as the appearance of a man.

16. 16

    וָאֶשְׁמַעva/esh/MAand I heardקוֹל־אָדָםkol-a/DAMa man’s voiceבֵּיןbenbetween the banks ofאוּלָיU/LAYUlaiוַיִּקְרָאvay/yik/RAand he calledוַיֹּאמַרvay/yo/MARand saidגַּבְרִיאֵלGav/ri/ELGabrielהָבֵןha/VENmake understandלְהַלָּזle/hal/LAZthis oneאֶת־הַמַּרְאֶה׃et-ham/mar/Ethe vision

    And I heard a man's voice between the banks of Ulai, which called, and said, Gabriel, make this man to understand the vision.

17. 17

    וַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand he cameאֵצֶלE/tselnearעׇמְדִיom/DIwhere I stoodוּבְבֹאוֹu/ve/vo/Oand when he cameנִבְעַתִּיniv/AT/tiI was afraidוָאֶפְּלָהva/ep/pe/LAand I fellעַל־פָּנָיal-pa/NAYupon my faceוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֵלַיe/LAYto meהָבֵןha/VENunderstandבֶּן־אָדָםben-a/DAMO son of manכִּיkiforלְעֶת־קֵץle/ET-ketsfor the time of the endהֶחָזוֹן׃he/cha/ZONis the vision

    So he came near where I stood: and when he came, I was afraid, and fell upon my face: but he said unto me, Understand, O son of man: for at the time of the end shall be the vision.

18. 18

    וּבְדַבְּרוֹu/ve/dab/be/ROand as he spokeעִמִּיim/MIwith meנִרְדַּמְתִּיnir/DAM/tiI fell into a deep sleepעַל־פָּנַיal-pa/NAYupon my faceאָרְצָהAR/tsato the groundוַיִּגַּע־בִּיvay/yig/GA-biand he touched meוַיַּעֲמִידֵנִיvay/ya/a/mi/DE/niand set me upעַל־עׇמְדִי׃al-om/DIwhere I stood

    Now as he was speaking with me, I was in a deep sleep on my face toward the ground: but he touched me, and set me upright.

19. 19

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidהִנְנִיhin/NIbehold Iמוֹדִיעֲךָmo/di/a/KHAmaking known to youאֵת־אֲשֶׁר־יִהְיֶהet-a/SHER-yih/YEwhat will beבְּאַחֲרִיתbe/a/cha/RITin the end ofהַזָּעַםhaz/ZA/amthe indignationכִּיkiforלְמוֹעֵדle/mo/EDat the appointed timeקֵץ׃ketsthe end

    And he said, Behold, I will make thee know what shall be in the last end of the indignation: for at the time appointed the end shall be.

20. 20

    הָאַיִלha/A/yilthe ramאֲשֶׁר־רָאִיתָa/SHER-ra/I/tathat you sawבַּעַלBA/althat hadהַקְּרָנָיִםhak/ke/ra/NA/yimthe two hornsמַלְכֵיmal/KHEare the kings ofמָדַיMa/DAYMediaוּפָרָס׃u/Fa/RASand Persia

    The ram which thou sawest having two horns are the kings of Media and Persia.

21. 21

    וְהַצָּפִירve/hats/tsa/FIRand the he goatהַשָּׂעִירhas/sa/IRthe shaggyמֶלֶךְME/lekhis the king ofיָוָןYa/VANGreeceוְהַקֶּרֶןve/hak/KE/renand the hornהַגְּדוֹלָהhag/ge/do/LAthe greatאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthat isבֵּין־עֵינָיוben-e/NAYVbetween its eyesהוּאhuisהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingהָרִאשׁוֹן׃ha/ri/SHONthe first

    And the rough goat is the king of Grecia: and the great horn that is between his eyes is the first king.

22. 22

    וְהַנִּשְׁבֶּרֶתve/han/nish/BE/retand as for that brokenוַתַּעֲמֹדְנָהvat/ta/a/MOD/naand there stood upאַרְבַּעar/BAfourתַּחְתֶּיהָtach/TE/hain its placeאַרְבַּעar/BAfourמַלְכֻיוֹתmal/khu/YOTkingdomsמִגּוֹיmig/GOYout of the nationיַעֲמֹדְנָהya/a/MOD/nawill ariseוְלֹאve/LOand notבְכֹחוֹ׃ve/kho/CHOwith his power

    Now that being broken, whereas four stood up for it, four kingdoms shall stand up out of the nation, but not in his power.

23. 23

    וּבְאַחֲרִיתu/ve/a/cha/RITand in the latter time ofמַלְכוּתָםmal/khu/TAMtheir kingdomכְּהָתֵםke/ha/TEMwhen have finishedהַפֹּשְׁעִיםhap/posh/IMthe transgressorsיַעֲמֹדya/a/MODwill ariseמֶלֶךְME/lekha kingעַז־פָּנִיםaz-pa/NIMfierce of faceוּמֵבִיןu/me/VINand understandingחִידוֹת׃chi/DOTriddles

    And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are come to the full, a king of fierce countenance, and understanding dark sentences, shall stand up.

24. 24

    וְעָצַםve/a/TSAMand will be mightyכֹּחוֹko/CHOhis strengthוְלֹאve/LObut notבְכֹחוֹve/kho/CHOby his own powerוְנִפְלָאוֹתve/nif/la/OTand wonderfullyיַשְׁחִיתyash/CHIThe will destroyוְהִצְלִיחַve/hits/LI/achand prosperוְעָשָׂהve/a/SAand actוְהִשְׁחִיתve/hish/CHITand destroyעֲצוּמִיםa/tsu/MIMthe mightyוְעַם־קְדֹשִׁים׃ve/AM-ke/do/SHIMand the people of the holy ones

    And his power shall be mighty, but not by his own power: and he shall destroy wonderfully, and shall prosper, and practise, and shall destroy the mighty and the holy people.

25. 25

    וְעַל־שִׂכְלוֹve/AL-sikh/LOand through his cunningוְהִצְלִיחַve/hits/LI/achhe will make prosperמִרְמָהmir/MAdeceitבְּיָדוֹbe/ya/DOin his handוּבִלְבָבוֹu/vil/va/VOand in his heartיַגְדִּילyag/DILhe will magnify himselfוּבְשַׁלְוָהu/ve/shal/VAand in easeיַשְׁחִיתyash/CHIThe will destroyרַבִּיםrab/BIMmanyוְעַלve/ALand againstשַׂר־שָׂרִיםsar-Sa/RIMthe Prince of princesיַעֲמֹדya/a/MODhe will standוּבְאֶפֶסu/ve/E/fesbut withoutיָדyadhandיִשָּׁבֵר׃yish/sha/VERhe will be broken

    And through his policy also he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and by peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand.

26. 26

    וּמַרְאֵהu/mar/Eand the appearance ofהָעֶרֶבha/E/revthe eveningוְהַבֹּקֶרve/hab/BO/kerand the morningאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatנֶאֱמַרne/e/MARwas toldאֱמֶתe/METtruthהוּאhuisוְאַתָּהve/at/TAand youסְתֹםse/TOMseal upהֶחָזוֹןhe/cha/ZONthe visionכִּיkiforלְיָמִיםle/ya/MIMis for daysרַבִּים׃rab/BIMmany

    And the vision of the evening and the morning which was told is true: wherefore shut thou up the vision; for it shall be for many days.

27. 27

    וַאֲנִיva/a/NIand IדָנִיֵּאלDa/niy/YELDanielנִהְיֵיתִיnih/YE/tiwas overcomeוְנֶחֱלֵיתִיve/ne/che/LE/tiand I was sickיָמִיםya/MIMdaysוָאָקוּםva/a/KUMand I roseוָאֶעֱשֶׂהva/e/e/SEand didאֶת־מְלֶאכֶתet-me/LE/khetthe business ofהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingוָאֶשְׁתּוֹמֵםva/esh/to/MEMand I was astonishedעַל־הַמַּרְאֶהal-ham/mar/Eat the visionוְאֵיןve/ENand there was noneמֵבִין׃me/VINto understand

    And I Daniel fainted, and was sick certain days; afterward I rose up, and did the king's business; and I was astonished at the vision, but none understood it.
