   Then there was a famine in the days of David three years, year after year; and David enquired of the LORD. And the LORD answered, It is for Saul, and for his bloody house, because he slew the Gibeonites.

   וַיִּקְרָאand-calledהַמֶּלֶךְthe-kingלַגִּבְעֹנִיםthe-Gibeonitesוַיֹּאמֶרand-saidאֲלֵיהֶםto-themוְהַגִּבְעֹנִיםand-the-Gibeonitesלֹאnotמִבְּנֵיof-the-children-ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelהֵמָּהtheyכִּיforאִם־מִיֶּתֶרbut-of-the-remnant-ofהָאֱמֹרִיthe-Amoriteוּבְנֵיand-the-children-ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelנִשְׁבְּעוּhad-swornלָהֶםto-themוַיְבַקֵּשׁand-requestedשָׁאוּלSaulלְהַכֹּתָםto-slay-themבְּקַנֹּאתוֹin-his-zealלִבְנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵלfor-the-children-of-Israelוִיהוּדָה׃and-Judah

   And the king called the Gibeonites, and said unto them; (now the Gibeonites were not of the children of Israel, but of the remnant of the Amorites; and the children of Israel had sworn unto them: and Saul sought to slay them in his zeal to the children of Israel and Judah.)

   וַיֹּאמֶרand-saidדָּוִדDavidאֶל־הַגִּבְעֹנִיםto-the-GibeonitesמָהwhatאֶעֱשֶׂהI-doלָכֶםto-youוּבַמָּהand-with-whatאֲכַפֵּרshall-I-make-atonementוּבָרְכוּthat-you-may-blessאֶת־נַחֲלַתthe-inheritance-ofיְהֹוָה׃the-LORD

   Wherefore David said unto the Gibeonites, What shall I do for you? and wherewith shall I make the atonement, that ye may bless the inheritance of the LORD?

   וַיֹּאמְרוּand-they-saidלוֹto-himהַגִּבְעֹנִיםthe-Gibeonitesאֵין־[לָנוּ]we-will-have-no(לי)כֶּסֶףsilverוְזָהָבand-goldעִם־שָׁאוּלof-Saulוְעִם־בֵּיתוֹnor-of-his-houseוְאֵין־לָנוּneither-for-usאִישׁany-manלְהָמִיתshall-you-killבְּיִשְׂרָאֵלin-Israelוַיֹּאמֶרand-saidמָה־אַתֶּםwhat-youאֹמְרִיםshall-sayאֶעֱשֶׂהwill-I-doלָכֶם׃to-you

   And the Gibeonites said unto him, We will have no silver nor gold of Saul, nor of his house; neither for us shalt thou kill any man in Israel. And he said, What ye shall say, that will I do for you.

   וַיֹּאמְרוּand-they-saidאֶל־הַמֶּלֶךְunto-the-kingהָאִישׁthe-manאֲשֶׁרwhichכִּלָּנוּconsumed-usוַאֲשֶׁרand-whichדִּמָּה־לָנוּdevised-against-usנִשְׁמַדְנוּwe-should-be-destroyedמֵהִתְיַצֵּבfrom-remainingבְּכׇל־גְּבֻלin-any-of-the-borders-ofיִשְׂרָאֵל׃Israel

   And they answered the king, The man that consumed us, and that devised against us that we should be destroyed from remaining in any of the coasts of Israel,

   (ינתן)[יֻתַּן־]לָנוּlet-be-delivered-to-usשִׁבְעָהsevenאֲנָשִׁיםmenמִבָּנָיוof-his-sonsוְהוֹקַעֲנוּםand-we-will-hang-them-upלַיהֹוָהto-the-LORDבְּגִבְעַתin-Gibeah-ofשָׁאוּלSaulבְּחִירthe-chosen-ofיְהֹוָהthe-LORDוַיֹּאמֶרand-saidהַמֶּלֶךְthe-kingאֲנִיIאֶתֵּן׃I-will-give-them

   Let seven men of his sons be delivered unto us, and we will hang them up unto the LORD in Gibeah of Saul, whom the LORD did choose. And the king said, I will give them.

7. 7

   וַיַּחְמֹלbut-sparedהַמֶּלֶךְthe-kingעַל־מְפִיבֹשֶׁתupon-Mephiboshethבֶּן־יְהוֹנָתָןson-of-Jonathanבֶּן־שָׁאוּלson-of-Saulעַל־שְׁבֻעַתbecause-of-the-oath-ofיְהֹוָהthe-LORDאֲשֶׁרwhichבֵּינֹתָםbetween-themבֵּיןbetweenדָּוִדDavidוּבֵיןand-betweenיְהוֹנָתָןJonathanבֶּן־שָׁאוּל׃son-of-Saul

   But the king spared Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan the son of Saul, because of the LORD's oath that was between them, between David and Jonathan the son of Saul.

8. 8

   וַיִּקַּחand-tookהַמֶּלֶךְthe-kingאֶת־שְׁנֵיtwoבְּנֵיthe-sons-ofרִצְפָּהRizpahבַת־אַיָּהthe-daughter-of-Aiahאֲשֶׁרwhichיָלְדָהshe-boreלְשָׁאוּלto-Saulאֶת־אַרְמֹנִיArmoniוְאֶת־מְפִבֹשֶׁתand-Mephiboshethוְאֶת־חֲמֵשֶׁתand-the-fiveבְּנֵיthe-sons-ofמִיכַלMichalבַּת־שָׁאוּלdaughter-of-Saulאֲשֶׁרwhichיָלְדָהshe-boreלְעַדְרִיאֵלto-Adrielבֶּן־בַּרְזִלַּיson-of-Barzillaiהַמְּחֹלָתִי׃the-Meholathite

   But the king took the two sons of Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, whom she bare unto Saul, Armoni and Mephibosheth; and the five sons of Michal the daughter of Saul, whom she brought up for Adriel the son of Barzillai the Meholathite:

   וַיִּתְּנֵםand-he-gave-themבְּיַדin-the-hand-ofהַגִּבְעֹנִיםthe-Gibeonitesוַיֹּקִיעֻםand-they-hanged-themבָּהָרon-the-hillלִפְנֵיbeforeיְהֹוָהthe-LORDוַיִּפְּלוּand-they-fell(שבעתים)[שְׁבַעְתָּם]all-seven-of-themיָחַדtogether(והם)[וְהֵמָּה]and-theyהֻמְתוּwere-put-to-deathבִּימֵיin-the-days-ofקָצִירharvestבָּרִאשֹׁנִיםin-the-first-days(תחלת)[בִּתְחִלַּת]in-the-beginning-ofקְצִירthe-harvest-ofשְׂעֹרִים׃barley

   And he delivered them into the hands of the Gibeonites, and they hanged them in the hill before the LORD: and they fell all seven together, and were put to death in the days of harvest, in the first days, in the beginning of barley harvest.

    וַתִּקַּחand-tookרִצְפָּהRizpahבַת־אַיָּהthe-daughter-of-Aiahאֶת־הַשַּׂקthe-sackclothוַתַּטֵּהוּand-spread-itלָהּfor-herאֶל־הַצּוּרupon-the-rockמִתְּחִלַּתfrom-the-beginning-ofקָצִירharvestעַדuntilנִתַּךְ־מַיִםwater-droppedעֲלֵיהֶםupon-themמִן־הַשָּׁמָיִםout-of-heavenוְלֹא־נָתְנָהand-suffered-notעוֹףthe-birds-ofהַשָּׁמַיִםthe-airלָנוּחַto-restעֲלֵיהֶםupon-themיוֹמָםby-dayוְאֶת־חַיַּתnor-the-beasts-ofהַשָּׂדֶהthe-fieldלָיְלָה׃by-night

    And Rizpah the daughter of Aiah took sackcloth, and spread it for her upon the rock, from the beginning of harvest until water dropped upon them out of heaven, and suffered neither the birds of the air to rest on them by day, nor the beasts of the field by night.

    וַיֻּגַּדand-it-was-toldלְדָוִדDavidאֵת־אֲשֶׁר־עָשְׂתָהwhat-had-doneרִצְפָּהRizpahבַת־אַיָּהthe-daughter-of-Aiahפִּלֶגֶשׁthe-concubine-ofשָׁאוּל׃Saul

    And it was told David what Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, the concubine of Saul, had done.

    וַיֵּלֶךְand-wentדָּוִדDavidוַיִּקַּחand-tookאֶת־עַצְמוֹתthe-bones-ofשָׁאוּלSaulוְאֶת־עַצְמוֹתand-the-bones-ofיְהוֹנָתָןJonathanבְּנוֹhis-sonמֵאֵתfromבַּעֲלֵיthe-men-ofיָבֵישׁJabesh-גִּלְעָדgileadאֲשֶׁרwhichגָּנְבוּstoleאֹתָםthemמֵרְחֹבfrom-the-open-place-ofבֵּית־שַׁןBeth-shanאֲשֶׁרwhich[תְּלָאוּםhad-hanged-themשָׁמָּהthereפְּלִשְׁתִּים]the-Philistinesבְּיוֹםin-the-day-ofהַכּוֹתhad-slainפְּלִשְׁתִּיםthe-Philistinesאֶת־שָׁאוּלSaulבַּגִּלְבֹּעַ׃in-Gilboa

    And David went and took the bones of Saul and the bones of Jonathan his son from the men of Jabesh-gilead, which had stolen them from the street of Beth-shan, where the Philistines had hanged them, when the Philistines had slain Saul in Gilboa:

13. 13

    וַיַּעַלand-he-brought-upמִשָּׁםfrom-thereאֶת־עַצְמוֹתthe-bones-ofשָׁאוּלSaulוְאֶת־עַצְמוֹתand-the-bones-ofיְהוֹנָתָןJonathanבְּנוֹhis-sonוַיַּאַסְפוּand-they-gatheredאֶת־עַצְמוֹתthe-bones-ofהַמּוּקָעִים׃them-that-were-hanged

    And he brought up from thence the bones of Saul and the bones of Jonathan his son; and they gathered the bones of them that were hanged.

14. 14

    וַיִּקְבְּרוּand-they-buriedאֶת־עַצְמוֹת־שָׁאוּלthe-bones-of-Saulוִיהוֹנָתָן־בְּנוֹand-Jonathan-his-sonבְּאֶרֶץin-the-land-ofבִּנְיָמִןBenjaminבְּצֵלָעin-Zelaבְּקֶבֶרin-the-tomb-ofקִישׁKishאָבִיוhis-fatherוַיַּעֲשׂוּand-they-performedכֹּלallאֲשֶׁר־צִוָּהwhich-commandedהַמֶּלֶךְthe-kingוַיֵּעָתֵרwas-entreatedאֱלֹהִיםGodלָאָרֶץfor-the-landאַחֲרֵי־כֵן׃after-that

    And the bones of Saul and Jonathan his son buried they in the country of Benjamin in Zelah, in the sepulchre of Kish his father: and they performed all that the king commanded. And after that God was intreated for the land.

15. 15

    וַתְּהִי־עוֹדand-there-was-yet-againמִלְחָמָהwarלַפְּלִשְׁתִּיםthe-Philistines-hadאֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵלwith-Israelוַיֵּרֶדand-descendedדָּוִדDavidוַעֲבָדָיוand-his-servantsעִמּוֹwith-himוַיִּלָּחֲמוּand-they-foughtאֶת־פְּלִשְׁתִּיםagainst-the-Philistinesוַיָּעַףand-became-wearyדָּוִד׃David

    Moreover the Philistines had yet war again with Israel; and David went down, and his servants with him, and fought against the Philistines: and David waxed faint.

16. 16

    (וישבו)[וְיִשְׁבִּי]and-Ishbi-בְנֹבbenobאֲשֶׁרwhichבִּילִידֵיof-the-sons-ofהָרָפָהthe-Raphahוּמִשְׁקַלand-weight-ofקֵינוֹhis-spearשְׁלֹשׁthreeמֵאוֹתhundredמִשְׁקַלthe-weight-ofנְחֹשֶׁתof-brassוְהוּאand-heחָגוּרbeing-girded-withחֲדָשָׁהa-new-swordוַיֹּאמֶרthoughtלְהַכּוֹתto-have-slainאֶת־דָּוִד׃David

    And Ishbi-benob, which was of the sons of the giant, the weight of whose spear weighed three hundred shekels of brass in weight, he being girded with a new sword, thought to have slain David.

    וַיַּעֲזׇר־לוֹbut-came-to-his-helpאֲבִישַׁיAbishaiבֶּן־צְרוּיָהson-of-Zeruiahוַיַּךְand-he-smoteאֶת־הַפְּלִשְׁתִּיthe-Philistineוַיְמִתֵהוּand-killed-himאָזthenנִשְׁבְּעוּsworeאַנְשֵׁי־דָוִדthe-men-of-Davidלוֹto-himלֵאמֹרsayingלֹא־תֵצֵאyou-shall-go-not-outעוֹדno-moreאִתָּנוּwith-usלַמִּלְחָמָהto-battleוְלֹאthat-notתְכַבֶּהyou-quenchאֶת־נֵרthe-lamp-ofיִשְׂרָאֵל׃Israel

    But Abishai the son of Zeruiah succoured him, and smote the Philistine, and killed him. Then the men of David sware unto him, saying, Thou shalt go no more out with us to battle, that thou quench not the light of Israel.

18. 18

    וַיְהִיand-it-came-to-passאַחֲרֵי־כֵןafter-thisוַתְּהִי־עוֹדthere-was-againהַמִּלְחָמָהthe-battleבְּגוֹבat-Gobעִם־פְּלִשְׁתִּיםwith-PhilistinesאָזthenהִכָּהslewסִבְּכַיSibbechaiהַחֻשָׁתִיthe-Hushathiteאֶת־סַףSaphאֲשֶׁרwhichבִּילִדֵיof-the-sons-ofהָרָפָה׃the-Raphah

    And it came to pass after this, that there was again a battle with the Philistines at Gob: then Sibbechai the Hushathite slew Saph, which was of the sons of the giant.

19. 19

    וַתְּהִי־עוֹדand-there-was-againהַמִּלְחָמָהthe-battleבְּגוֹבat-Gobעִם־פְּלִשְׁתִּיםwith-Philistinesוַיַּךְand-he-smoteאֶלְחָנָןElhananבֶּן־יַעְרֵיson-of-Jaare-אֹרְגִיםoregimבֵּיתBeth-הַלַּחְמִיlehemiteאֵת־גׇּלְיָתGoliathהַגִּתִּיthe-Gittiteוְעֵץand-the-staff-ofחֲנִיתוֹhis-spearכִּמְנוֹרlike-a-beam-ofאֹרְגִים׃weavers

    And there was again a battle in Gob with the Philistines, where Elhanan the son of Jaare-oregim, a Beth-lehemite, slew the brother of Goliath the Gittite, the staff of whose spear was like a weaver's beam.

    וַתְּהִי־עוֹדand-there-was-a-furtherמִלְחָמָהwarבְּגַתin-Gathוַיְהִיand-it-came-to-passאִישׁa-man(מדין)[מָדוֹן]of-great-statureוְאֶצְבְּעֹתand-the-fingers-ofיָדָיוhis-handsוְאֶצְבְּעֹתand-the-toes-ofרַגְלָיוhis-feetשֵׁשׁsixוָשֵׁשׁand-sixעֶשְׂרִיםtwentyוְאַרְבַּעand-fourמִסְפָּרin-numberוְגַם־הוּאand-he-alsoיֻלַּדwas-bornלְהָרָפָה׃to-the-Raphah

    And there was yet a battle in Gath, where was a man of great stature, that had on every hand six fingers, and on every foot six toes, four and twenty in number; and he also was born to the giant.

21. 21

    וַיְחָרֵףand-he-tauntedאֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelוַיַּכֵּהוּslew-himיְהוֹנָתָןJonathanבֶּן־[שִׁמְעָה]son-of-Shimei(שמעי)אֲחִיthe-brother-ofדָוִד׃David

    And when he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimea the brother of David slew him.

22. 22

    אֶת־אַרְבַּעַתthe-four-ofאֵלֶּהtheseיֻלְּדוּwere-bornלְהָרָפָהto-the-Raphahבְּגַתin-Gathוַיִּפְּלוּand-fellבְיַד־דָּוִדby-the-hand-of-Davidוּבְיַדand-by-the-hand-ofעֲבָדָיו׃his-servants

    These four were born to the giant in Gath, and fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.
