   Moreover Ahithophel said unto Absalom, Let me now choose out twelve thousand men, and I will arise and pursue after David this night:

   וְאָבוֹאve/a/VOand I will comeעָלָיוa/LAYVupon himוְהוּאve/HUand heיָגֵעַya/GE/ais wearyוּרְפֵהu/re/FEand slack ofיָדַיִםya/DA/yimhandsוְהַחֲרַדְתִּיve/ha/cha/rad/TIand I will make trembleאֹתוֹo/TOhimוְנָסve/NASand will fleeכׇּל־הָעָםkol-ha/AMall the peopleאֲשֶׁר־אִתּוֹa/SHER-it/TOwho are with himוְהִכֵּיתִיve/hik/ke/TIand I will strikeאֶת־הַמֶּלֶךְet-ham/ME/lekhthe kingלְבַדּוֹ׃le/vad/DOalone

   And I will come upon him while he is weary and weak handed, and will make him afraid: and all the people that are with him shall flee; and I will smite the king only:

   וְאָשִׁיבָהve/a/SHI/vaand I will bring backכׇל־הָעָםkhol-ha/AMall the peopleאֵלֶיךָe/LE/khato youכְּשׁוּבke/SHUVas the return ofהַכֹּלhak/KOLallהָאִישׁha/ISHthe manאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhomאַתָּהat/TAyouמְבַקֵּשׁme/vak/KESHare seekingכׇּל־הָעָםkol-ha/AMall the peopleיִהְיֶהyih/YEwill beשָׁלוֹם׃sha/LOMat peace

   And I will bring back all the people unto thee: the man whom thou seekest is as if all returned: so all the people shall be in peace.

   And the saying pleased Absalom well, and all the elders of Israel.

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאַבְשָׁלוֹםAv/sha/LOMAbsalomקְרָאke/RAcallנָאnaI prayגַּםgamalsoלְחוּשַׁיLe/chu/SHAYHushaiהָאַרְכִּיha/Ar/KIthe Architeוְנִשְׁמְעָהve/nish/me/Aand let us hearמַה־בְּפִיוma-be/FIVwhat is in his mouthגַּם־הוּא׃gam-huhe also

   Then said Absalom, Call now Hushai the Archite also, and let us hear likewise what he saith.

   And when Hushai was come to Absalom, Absalom spake unto him, saying, Ahithophel hath spoken after this manner: shall we do after his saying? if not; speak thou.

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidחוּשַׁיChu/SHAYHushaiאֶל־אַבְשָׁלוֹםel-Av/sha/LOMto Absalomלֹא־טוֹבָהlo-to/VAis not goodהָעֵצָהha/e/TSAthe counselאֲשֶׁר־יָעַץa/SHER-ya/ATSthat has counseledאֲחִיתֹפֶלA/chi/TO/felAhithophelבַּפַּעַםbap/PA/amat the timeהַזֹּאת׃haz/ZOTthis

   And Hushai said unto Absalom, The counsel that Ahithophel hath given is not good at this time.

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidחוּשַׁיChu/SHAYHushaiאַתָּהat/TAyouיָדַעְתָּya/DA/taknowאֶת־אָבִיךָet-a/VI/khayour fatherוְאֶת־אֲנָשָׁיוve/ET-a/na/SHAYVand his menכִּיkithatגִבֹּרִיםgib/bo/RIMmighty menהֵמָּהHEM/mathey areוּמָרֵיu/ma/REand bitter ofנֶפֶשׁNE/feshsoulהֵמָּהHEM/mathey areכְּדֹבke/DOVlike a bearשַׁכּוּלshak/KULbereavedבַּשָּׂדֶהbas/sa/DEin the fieldוְאָבִיךָve/a/VI/khaand your fatherאִישׁisha man ofמִלְחָמָהmil/cha/MAwarוְלֹאve/LOand notיָלִיןya/LINwill lodgeאֶת־הָעָם׃et-ha/AMwith the people

   For, said Hushai, thou knowest thy father and his men, that they be mighty men, and they be chafed in their minds, as a bear robbed of her whelps in the field: and thy father is a man of war, and will not lodge with the people.

   הִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdעַתָּהat/TAnowהוּא־נֶחְבָּאhu-nech/BAhe is hiddenבְּאַחַתbe/a/CHATin one ofהַפְּחָתִיםhap/pe/cha/TIMthe pitsאוֹoorבְּאַחַדbe/a/CHADin one ofהַמְּקוֹמֹתham/me/ko/MOTthe placesוְהָיָהve/ha/YAand it will beכִּנְפֹלkin/FOLwhen fallבָּהֶםba/HEMamong themבַּתְּחִלָּהbat/te/chil/LAat the firstוְשָׁמַעve/sha/MAand will hearהַשֹּׁמֵעַhash/sho/ME/athe one who hearsוְאָמַרve/a/MARwill sayהָיְתָהha/ye/TAthere has beenמַגֵּפָהmag/ge/FAa slaughterבָּעָםba/AMamong the peopleאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterאַבְשָׁלֹם׃Av/sha/LOMAbsalom

   Behold, he is hid now in some pit, or in some other place: and it will come to pass, when some of them be overthrown at the first, that whosoever heareth it will say, There is a slaughter among the people that follow Absalom.

    וְהוּאve/HUand heגַם־בֶּן־חַיִלgam-ben-CHA/yilalso the son of valorאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoseלִבּוֹlib/BOhis heartכְּלֵבke/LEVlike the heart ofהָאַרְיֵהha/ar/YEthe lionהִמֵּסhim/MESmeltיִמָּסyim/MASwill meltכִּי־יֹדֵעַki-yo/DE/afor knowsכׇּל־יִשְׂרָאֵלkol-Yis/ra/ELall Israelכִּי־גִבּוֹרki-gib/BORthat a mighty manאָבִיךָa/VI/khayour fatherוּבְנֵי־חַיִלu/ve/NE-CHA/yiland valiant menאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwho areאִתּוֹ׃it/TOwith him

    And he also that is valiant, whose heart is as the heart of a lion, shall utterly melt: for all Israel knoweth that thy father is a mighty man, and they which be with him are valiant men.

    כִּיkibutיָעַצְתִּיya/ATS/tiI counselהֵאָסֹףhe/a/SOFgatherיֵאָסֵףye/a/SEFlet be gatheredעָלֶיךָa/LE/khato youכׇל־יִשְׂרָאֵלkhol-Yis/ra/ELall Israelמִדָּןmid/DANfrom Danוְעַד־בְּאֵרve/AD-be/ERand to Beer-שֶׁבַעSHE/vashebaכַּחוֹלka/CHOLlike the sandאֲשֶׁר־עַל־הַיָּםa/SHER-al-hay/YAMthat is by the seaלָרֹבla/ROVfor multitudeוּפָנֶיךָu/fa/NE/khaand your presenceהֹלְכִיםhol/KHIMgoingבַּקְרָב׃bak/RAVinto battle

    Therefore I counsel that all Israel be generally gathered unto thee, from Dan even to Beer-sheba, as the sand that is by the sea for multitude; and that thou go to battle in thine own person.

    וּבָאנוּu/VA/nuand we will comeאֵלָיוe/LAYVto him(באחת)vchat[בְּאַחַד]be/a/CHADin one ofהַמְּקוֹמֹתham/me/ko/MOTthe placesאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhereנִמְצָאnim/TSAhe is foundשָׁםshamthereוְנַחְנוּve/NACH/nuand weעָלָיוa/LAYVupon himכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERasיִפֹּלyip/POLfallsהַטַּלhat/TALthe dewעַל־הָאֲדָמָהal-ha/a/da/MAon the groundוְלֹא־נוֹתַרve/LO-no/TARand will not be leftבּוֹboof himוּבְכׇל־הָאֲנָשִׁיםu/ve/KHOL-ha/a/na/SHIMand of all the menאֲשֶׁר־אִתּוֹa/SHER-it/TOwho are with himגַּם־אֶחָד׃gam-e/CHADeven one

    So shall we come upon him in some place where he shall be found, and we will light upon him as the dew falleth on the ground: and of him and of all the men that are with him there shall not be left so much as one.

    וְאִם־אֶל־עִירve/IM-el-irand if into a cityיֵאָסֵףye/a/SEFhe is gatheredוְהִשִּׂיאוּve/his/SI/uthen will bringכׇל־יִשְׂרָאֵלkhol-Yis/ra/ELall Israelאֶל־הָעִירel-ha/IRto the cityהַהִיאha/HIthatחֲבָלִיםcha/va/LIMropesוְסָחַבְנוּve/sa/CHAV/nuand we will dragאֹתוֹo/TOitעַד־הַנַּחַלad-han/NA/chalto the brookעַדaduntilאֲשֶׁר־לֹא־נִמְצָאa/SHER-lo-nim/TSAthat is not foundשָׁםshamthereגַּם־צְרוֹר׃gam-tse/ROReven a pebble

    Moreover, if he be gotten into a city, then shall all Israel bring ropes to that city, and we will draw it into the river, until there be not one small stone found there.

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאַבְשָׁלוֹםAv/sha/LOMAbsalomוְכׇל־אִישׁve/KHOL-ishand all the men ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelטוֹבָהto/VAis betterעֲצַתa/TSATthe counsel ofחוּשַׁיChu/SHAYHushaiהָאַרְכִּיha/Ar/KIthe Architeמֵעֲצַתme/a/TSATthan the counsel ofאֲחִיתֹפֶלA/chi/TO/felAhithophelוַיהֹוָהve-Adonaiand the LORDצִוָּהtsiv/VAhad commandedלְהָפֵרle/ha/FERto frustrateאֶת־עֲצַתet-a/TSATthe counsel ofאֲחִיתֹפֶלA/chi/TO/felAhithophelהַטּוֹבָהhat/to/VAthe goodלְבַעֲבוּרle/va/a/VURin order thatהָבִיאha/VImight bringיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֶל־אַבְשָׁלוֹםel-Av/sha/LOMupon Absalomאֶת־הָרָעָה׃et-ha/ra/Athe evil

    And Absalom and all the men of Israel said, The counsel of Hushai the Archite is better than the counsel of Ahithophel. For the LORD had appointed to defeat the good counsel of Ahithophel, to the intent that the LORD might bring evil upon Absalom.

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidחוּשַׁיChu/SHAYHushaiאֶל־צָדוֹקel-Tsa/DOKto Zadokוְאֶל־אֶבְיָתָרve/EL-ev/ya/TARand to Abiatharהַכֹּהֲנִיםhak/ko/ha/NIMthe priestsכָּזֹאתka/ZOTthusוְכָזֹאתve/kha/ZOTand thusיָעַץya/ATScounseledאֲחִיתֹפֶלA/chi/TO/felAhithophelאֶת־אַבְשָׁלֹםet-Av/sha/LOMAbsalomוְאֵתve/ETandזִקְנֵיzik/NEthe elders ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelוְכָזֹאתve/kha/ZOTand thusוְכָזֹאתve/kha/ZOTand thusיָעַצְתִּיya/ATS/tihave counseledאָנִי׃A/niI

    Then said Hushai unto Zadok and to Abiathar the priests, Thus and thus did Ahithophel counsel Absalom and the elders of Israel; and thus and thus have I counselled.

    וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowשִׁלְחוּshil/CHUsendמְהֵרָהme/he/RAquicklyוְהַגִּידוּve/hag/GI/duand tellלְדָוִדLe/da/VIDDavidלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingאַל־תָּלֶןal-TA/lendo not lodgeהַלַּיְלָהhal/LAY/lathis nightבְּעַרְבוֹתbe/ar/VOTin the plains ofהַמִּדְבָּרham/mid/BARthe wildernessוְגַםve/GAMbut alsoעָבוֹרa/VORcrossתַּעֲבוֹרta/a/VORyou shall cross overפֶּןpenlestיְבֻלַּעye/vul/LAit be swallowed upלַמֶּלֶךְlam/ME/lekhfor the kingוּלְכׇל־הָעָםu/le/KHOL-ha/AMand for all the peopleאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwho areאִתּוֹ׃it/TOwith him

    Now therefore send quickly, and tell David, saying, Lodge not this night in the plains of the wilderness, but speedily pass over; lest the king be swallowed up, and all the people that are with him.

    וִיהוֹנָתָןVi/ho/na/TANand Jonathanוַאֲחִימַעַץva/A/chi/MA/atsand Ahimaazעֹמְדִיםom/DIMwere standingבְּעֵין־רֹגֵלbe/EN-ro/GELat En-rogelוְהָלְכָהve/ha/le/KHAand would goהַשִּׁפְחָהhash/shif/CHAthe maidservantוְהִגִּידָהve/hig/GI/daand tellלָהֶםla/HEMto themוְהֵםve/HEMand theyיֵלְכוּyel/KHUwould goוְהִגִּידוּve/hig/GI/duand tellלַמֶּלֶךְlam/ME/lekhto the kingדָּוִדDa/VIDDavidכִּיkiforלֹאlonotיוּכְלוּyukh/LUthey couldלְהֵרָאוֹתle/he/ra/OTbe seenלָבוֹאla/VOto comeהָעִירָה׃ha/I/rainto the city

    Now Jonathan and Ahimaaz stayed by En-rogel; for they might not be seen to come into the city: and a wench went and told them; and they went and told king David.

    וַיַּרְאvay/YARand sawאֹתָםo/TAMthemנַעַרNA/ara young manוַיַּגֵּדvay/yag/GEDand toldלְאַבְשָׁלֹםle/Av/sha/LOMto Absalomוַיֵּלְכוּvay/yel/KHUand they wentשְׁנֵיהֶםshe/ne/HEMboth of themמְהֵרָהme/he/RAquicklyוַיָּבֹאוּvay/ya/VO/uand they cameאֶל־בֵּית־אִישׁel-bet-ishto the house of a manבְּבַחוּרִיםbe/Va/chu/RIMin Bahurimוְלוֹve/LOand he hadבְאֵרve/ERa wellבַּחֲצֵרוֹba/cha/tse/ROin his courtyardוַיֵּרְדוּvay/yer/DUand they went downשָׁם׃shamthere

    Nevertheless a lad saw them, and told Absalom: but they went both of them away quickly, and came to a man's house in Bahurim, which had a well in his court; whither they went down.

19. 19

    וַתִּקַּחvat/tik/KACHand she tookהָאִשָּׁהha/ish/SHAthe womanוַתִּפְרֹשׂvat/tif/ROSand spreadאֶת־הַמָּסָךְet-ham/ma/SAKHthe coveringעַל־פְּנֵיal-pe/NEover the face ofהַבְּאֵרhab/be/ERthe wellוַתִּשְׁטַחvat/tish/TACHand spreadעָלָיוa/LAYVupon itהָרִפוֹתha/ri/FOTground grainוְלֹאve/LOand notנוֹדַעno/DAwas knownדָּבָר׃da/VARa thing

    And the woman took and spread a covering over the well's mouth, and spread ground corn thereon; and the thing was not known.

    וַיָּבֹאוּvay/ya/VO/uand they cameעַבְדֵיav/DEthe servants ofאַבְשָׁלוֹםAv/sha/LOMAbsalomאֶל־הָאִשָּׁהel-ha/ish/SHAto the womanהַבַּיְתָהhab/BAY/tato the houseוַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidאַיֵּהay/YEwhere isאֲחִימַעַץA/chi/MA/atsAhimaazוִיהוֹנָתָןVi/ho/na/TANand Jonathanוַתֹּאמֶרvat/TO/merand saidלָהֶםla/HEMto themהָאִשָּׁהha/ish/SHAthe womanעָבְרוּa/ve/RUthey have crossedמִיכַלmi/KHALthe brook ofהַמָּיִםham/MA/yimthe waterוַיְבַקְשׁוּvay/vak/SHUand they soughtוְלֹאve/LOand notמָצָאוּma/TSA/uthey foundוַיָּשֻׁבוּvay/ya/SHU/vuand they returnedיְרוּשָׁלָ͏ִם׃Ye/ru/sha/LA/yimto Jerusalem

    And when Absalom's servants came to the woman to the house, they said, Where is Ahimaaz and Jonathan? And the woman said unto them, They be gone over the brook of water. And when they had sought and could not find them, they returned to Jerusalem.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterלֶכְתָּםlekh/TAMtheir goingוַיַּעֲלוּvay/ya/a/LUand they came upמֵהַבְּאֵרme/hab/be/ERout of the wellוַיֵּלְכוּvay/yel/KHUand they wentוַיַּגִּדוּvay/yag/GI/duand toldלַמֶּלֶךְlam/ME/lekhto the kingדָּוִדDa/VIDDavidוַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidאֶל־דָּוִדel-Da/VIDto DavidקוּמוּKU/muariseוְעִבְרוּve/iv/RUand crossמְהֵרָהme/he/RAquicklyאֶת־הַמַּיִםet-ham/MA/yimthe waterכִּי־כָכָהki-KHA/khafor thusיָעַץya/ATShas counseledעֲלֵיכֶםa/le/KHEMagainst youאֲחִיתֹפֶל׃A/chi/TO/felAhithophel

    And it came to pass, after they were departed, that they came up out of the well, and went and told king David, and said unto David, Arise, and pass quickly over the water: for thus hath Ahithophel counselled against you.

    וַיָּקׇםvay/YA/komand aroseדָּוִדDa/VIDDavidוְכׇל־הָעָםve/KHOL-ha/AMand all the peopleאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwho wereאִתּוֹit/TOwith himוַיַּעַבְרוּvay/ya/av/RUand they passed overאֶת־הַיַּרְדֵּןet-Hay/yar/DENthe Jordanעַד־אוֹרad-oruntil the light ofהַבֹּקֶרhab/BO/kerthe morningעַד־אַחַדad-a/CHADuntil oneלֹאlonotנֶעְדָּרne/DARwas missingאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoלֹא־עָבַרlo-a/VARhad not crossedאֶת־הַיַּרְדֵּן׃et-Hay/yar/DENthe Jordan

    Then David arose, and all the people that were with him, and they passed over Jordan: by the morning light there lacked not one of them that was not gone over Jordan.

    וַאֲחִיתֹפֶלva/A/chi/TO/feland Ahithophelרָאָהra/Asawכִּיkithatלֹאlonotנֶעֶשְׂתָהne/es/TAwas doneעֲצָתוֹa/tsa/TOhis counselוַיַּחֲבֹשׁvay/ya/cha/VOSHhe saddledאֶת־הַחֲמוֹרet-ha/cha/MORthe donkeyוַיָּקׇםvay/YA/komand he aroseוַיֵּלֶךְvay/YE/lekhand wentאֶל־בֵּיתוֹel-be/TOto his houseאֶל־עִירוֹel-i/ROto his cityוַיְצַוvay/TSAVand gave ordersאֶל־בֵּיתוֹel-be/TOto his houseוַיֵּחָנַקvay/ye/cha/NAKand strangled himselfוַיָּמׇתvay/YA/motand he diedוַיִּקָּבֵרvay/yik/ka/VERand was buriedבְּקֶבֶרbe/KE/verin the tomb ofאָבִיו׃a/VIVhis father

    And when Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he saddled his ass, and arose, and gat him home to his house, to his city, and put his household in order, and hanged himself, and died, and was buried in the sepulchre of his father.

    וְדָוִדve/Da/VIDand DavidבָּאbacameמַחֲנָיְמָהMa/cha/NAY/mato Mahanaimוְאַבְשָׁלֹםve/Av/sha/LOMand Absalomעָבַרa/VARcrossedאֶת־הַיַּרְדֵּןet-Hay/yar/DENthe Jordanהוּאhuheוְכׇל־אִישׁve/KHOL-ishand all the men ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelעִמּוֹ׃im/MOwith him

    Then David came to Mahanaim. And Absalom passed over Jordan, he and all the men of Israel with him.

    וְאֶת־עֲמָשָׂאve/ET-a/ma/SAand AmasaשָׂםsamsetאַבְשָׁלֹםAv/sha/LOMAbsalomתַּחַתTA/chatin place ofיוֹאָבYo/AVJoabעַל־הַצָּבָאal-hats/tsa/VAover the armyוַעֲמָשָׂאva/A/ma/SAand Amasaבֶן־אִישׁven-ishthe son of a manוּשְׁמוֹu/she/MOand his nameיִתְרָאYit/RAIthraהַיִּשְׂרְאֵלִיhay/Yis/re/e/LIthe Israeliteאֲשֶׁר־בָּאa/SHER-bawho had gone inאֶל־אֲבִיגַלel-A/vi/GALto Abigalבַּת־נָחָשׁbat-Na/CHASHthe daughter of Nahashאֲחוֹתa/CHOTthe sister ofצְרוּיָהTse/ru/YAZeruiahאֵםemthe mother ofיוֹאָב׃Yo/AVJoab

    And Absalom made Amasa captain of the host instead of Joab: which Amasa was a man's son, whose name was Ithra an Israelite, that went in to Abigail the daughter of Nahash, sister to Zeruiah Joab's mother.

    וַיִּחַןvay/YI/chanand encampedיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelוְאַבְשָׁלֹםve/Av/sha/LOMand AbsalomאֶרֶץE/retsin the land ofהַגִּלְעָד׃Hag/gil/ADGilead

    So Israel and Absalom pitched in the land of Gilead.

    And it came to pass, when David was come to Mahanaim, that Shobi the son of Nahash of Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and Machir the son of Ammiel of Lo-debar, and Barzillai the Gileadite of Rogelim,

    Brought beds, and basons, and earthen vessels, and wheat, and barley, and flour, and parched corn, and beans, and lentiles, and parched pulse,

    וּדְבַשׁu/de/VASHand honeyוְחֶמְאָהve/chem/Aand butterוְצֹאןve/TSONand sheepוּשְׁפוֹתu/she/FOTand cheese ofבָּקָרba/KARthe herdהִגִּישׁוּhig/GI/shuthey broughtלְדָוִדle/Da/VIDfor Davidוְלָעָםve/la/AMand for the peopleאֲשֶׁר־אִתּוֹa/SHER-it/TOwho were with himלֶאֱכוֹלle/e/KHOLto eatכִּיkiforאָמְרוּa/me/RUthey saidהָעָםha/AMthe peopleרָעֵבra/EVis hungryוְעָיֵףve/a/YEFand wearyוְצָמֵאve/tsa/MEand thirstyבַּמִּדְבָּר׃bam/mid/BARin the wilderness

    And honey, and butter, and sheep, and cheese of kine, for David, and for the people that were with him, to eat: for they said, The people is hungry, and weary, and thirsty, in the wilderness.
