   Ahaz was twenty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem: but he did not that which was right in the sight of the LORD, like David his father:

   וַיֵּלֶךְvay/YE/lekhbut he walkedבְּדַרְכֵיbe/dar/KHEin the ways ofמַלְכֵיmal/KHEthe kings ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelוְגַםve/GAMand alsoמַסֵּכוֹתmas/se/KHOTmolten imagesעָשָׂהa/SAhe madeלַבְּעָלִים׃lab/Be/a/LIMfor the Baalim

   For he walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, and made also molten images for Baalim.

   וְהוּאve/HUmoreover heהִקְטִירhik/TIRburned incenseבְּגֵיאbe/GEin the valley ofבֶן־הִנֹּםven-Hin/NOMthe son of Hinnomוַיַּבְעֵרvay/yav/ERand burnedאֶת־בָּנָיוet-ba/NAYVhis sonsבָּאֵשׁba/ESHthrough the fireכְּתֹעֲבוֹתke/to/a/VOTaccording to the abominations ofהַגּוֹיִםhag/go/YIMthe nationsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhomהֹרִישׁho/RISHhad cast outיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDמִפְּנֵיmip/pe/NEfrom beforeבְּנֵיbe/NEthe children ofיִשְׂרָאֵל׃Yis/ra/ELIsrael

   Moreover he burnt incense in the valley of the son of Hinnom, and burnt his children in the fire, after the abominations of the heathen whom the LORD had cast out before the children of Israel.

   וַיְזַבֵּחַvay/zab/BE/achand he sacrificedוַיְקַטֵּרvay/kat/TERand burned incenseבַּבָּמוֹתbab/ba/MOTon the high placesוְעַל־הַגְּבָעוֹתve/AL-hag/ge/va/OTand on the hillsוְתַחַתve/TA/chatand underכׇּל־עֵץkol-etsevery treeרַעֲנָן׃ra/a/NANgreen

   He sacrificed also and burnt incense in the high places, and on the hills, and under every green tree.

   וַיִּתְּנֵהוּvay/yit/te/NE/hutherefore gave himיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֱלֹהָיוe/lo/HAYVhis Godבְּיַדbe/YADinto the hand ofמֶלֶךְME/lekhthe king ofאֲרָםA/RAMAramוַיַּכּוּ־בוֹvay/yak/KU-voand they defeated himוַיִּשְׁבּוּvay/yish/BUand carried awayמִמֶּנּוּmim/MEN/nuof hisשִׁבְיָהshiv/YAcaptivesגְדוֹלָהge/do/LAa great numberוַיָּבִיאוּvay/ya/VI/uand brought them toדַּרְמָשֶׂקDar/MA/sekDamascusוְגַםve/GAMand alsoבְּיַד־מֶלֶךְbe/YAD-ME/lekhinto the hand of the king ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelנִתָּןnit/TANwas givenוַיַּךְ־בּוֹvay/YAKH-bowho struck him withמַכָּהmak/KAa slaughterגְדוֹלָה׃ge/do/LAgreat

   Wherefore the LORD his God delivered him into the hand of the king of Syria; and they smote him, and carried away a great multitude of them captives, and brought them to Damascus. And he was also delivered into the hand of the king of Israel, who smote him with a great slaughter.

   For Pekah the son of Remaliah slew in Judah an hundred and twenty thousand in one day, which were all valiant men; because they had forsaken the LORD God of their fathers.

   וַיַּהֲרֹגvay/ya/ha/ROGand killedזִכְרִיZikh/RIZichriגִּבּוֹרgib/BORa mighty man ofאֶפְרַיִםEf/RA/yimEphraimאֶת־מַעֲשֵׂיָהוּet-Ma/a/se/YA/huMaaseiahבֶּן־הַמֶּלֶךְben-ham/ME/lekhthe son of the kingוְאֶת־עַזְרִיקָםve/ET-az/ri/KAMand Azrikamנְגִידne/GIDthe governor ofהַבָּיִתhab/BA/yitthe houseוְאֶת־אֶלְקָנָהve/ET-el/ka/NAand Elkanahמִשְׁנֵהmish/NEsecond toהַמֶּלֶךְ׃ham/ME/lekhthe king

   And Zichri, a mighty man of Ephraim, slew Maaseiah the king's son, and Azrikam the governor of the house, and Elkanah that was next to the king.

   וַיִּשְׁבּוּvay/yish/BUand carried away captiveבְנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵלve/NE-yis/ra/ELthe children of Israelמֵאֲחֵיהֶםme/a/che/HEMof their brothersמָאתַיִםma/TA/yimtwo hundredאֶלֶףE/lefthousandנָשִׁיםna/SHIMwomenבָּנִיםba/NIMsonsוּבָנוֹתu/va/NOTand daughtersוְגַם־שָׁלָלve/GAM-sha/LALand also spoilרָבravmuchבָּזְזוּba/ze/ZUthey tookמֵהֶםme/HEMfrom themוַיָּבִיאוּvay/ya/VI/uand broughtאֶת־הַשָּׁלָלet-hash/sha/LALthe spoilלְשֹׁמְרוֹן׃le/Shom/RONto Samaria

   And the children of Israel carried away captive of their brethren two hundred thousand, women, sons, and daughters, and took also away much spoil from them, and brought the spoil to Samaria.

   וְשָׁםve/SHAMand thereהָיָהha/YAwasנָבִיאna/VIa prophetלַיהֹוָהla-Adonaiof the LORDעֹדֵדO/DEDOdedשְׁמוֹshe/MOhis nameוַיֵּצֵאvay/ye/TSEand he went outלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeהַצָּבָאhats/tsa/VAthe armyהַבָּאhab/BAthat cameלְשֹׁמְרוֹןle/Shom/RONto Samariaוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidלָהֶםla/HEMto themהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdבַּחֲמַתba/cha/MATbecause of the wrath ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֱלֹהֵי־אֲבוֹתֵיכֶםe/lo/HE-a/vo/te/KHEMthe God of your fathersעַל־יְהוּדָהal-Ye/hu/DAagainst Judahנְתָנָםne/ta/NAMhas given themבְּיֶדְכֶםbe/yed/KHEMinto your handוַתַּהַרְגוּ־בָםvat/ta/har/GU-vamand you have killed themבְּזַעַףbe/ZA/afin a rageעַדadthatלַשָּׁמַיִםlash/sha/MA/yimto the heavensהִגִּיעַ׃hig/GI/ahas reached

   But a prophet of the LORD was there, whose name was Oded: and he went out before the host that came to Samaria, and said unto them, Behold, because the LORD God of your fathers was wroth with Judah, he hath delivered them into your hand, and ye have slain them in a rage that reacheth up unto heaven.

    וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowבְּנֵי־יְהוּדָהbe/NE-ye/hu/DAthe children of Judahוִירוּשָׁלַ͏ִםVi/ru/sha/LA/yimand Jerusalemאַתֶּםat/TEMyouאֹמְרִיםom/RIMintendלִכְבֹּשׁlikh/BOSHto subdueלַעֲבָדִיםla/a/va/DIMfor servantsוְלִשְׁפָחוֹתve/lish/fa/CHOTand for handmaidsלָכֶםla/KHEMfor yourselvesהֲלֹאha/LOare there notרַק־אַתֶּםrak-at/TEMonly with youעִמָּכֶםim/ma/KHEMwith youאֲשָׁמוֹתa/sha/MOTtrespassesלַיהֹוָהla-Adonaiagainst the LORDאֱלֹהֵיכֶם׃e/lo/he/KHEMyour God

    And now ye purpose to keep under the children of Judah and Jerusalem for bondmen and bondwomen unto you: but are there not with you, even with you, sins against the LORD your God?

11. 11

    וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowשְׁמָעוּנִיshe/ma/U/nihear meוְהָשִׁיבוּve/ha/SHI/vuand send backהַשִּׁבְיָהhash/shiv/YAthe captivesאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhomשְׁבִיתֶםshe/vi/TEMyou have taken captiveמֵאֲחֵיכֶםme/a/che/KHEMof your brothersכִּיkiforחֲרוֹןcha/RONthe fierceאַף־יְהֹוָהaf-Adonaianger of the LORDעֲלֵיכֶם׃a/le/KHEMis upon you

    Now hear me therefore, and deliver the captives again, which ye have taken captive of your brethren: for the fierce wrath of the LORD is upon you.

    וַיָּקֻמוּvay/ya/KU/muthen rose upאֲנָשִׁיםa/na/SHIMmenמֵרָאשֵׁיme/ra/SHEof the heads ofבְנֵי־אֶפְרַיִםve/NE-ef/RA/yimthe children of EphraimעֲזַרְיָהוּA/zar/YA/huAzariahבֶן־יְהוֹחָנָןven-Ye/ho/cha/NANthe son of JehohananבֶּרֶכְיָהוּBe/rekh/YA/huBerechiahבֶן־מְשִׁלֵּמוֹתven-Me/shil/le/MOTthe son of MeshillemothוִיחִזְקִיָּהוּVi/chiz/kiy/YA/huand Jechizkiahבֶּן־שַׁלֻּםben-Shal/LUMthe son of Shallumוַעֲמָשָׂאva/A/ma/SAand Amasaבֶּן־חַדְלָיben-Chad/LAYthe son of Hadlaiעַל־הַבָּאִיםal-hab/ba/IMagainst those who cameמִן־הַצָּבָא׃min-hats/tsa/VAfrom the army

    Then certain of the heads of the children of Ephraim, Azariah the son of Johanan, Berechiah the son of Meshillemoth, and Jehizkiah the son of Shallum, and Amasa the son of Hadlai, stood up against them that came from the war,

    וַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidלָהֶםla/HEMto themלֹא־תָבִיאוּlo-ta/VI/uyou shall not bringאֶת־הַשִּׁבְיָהet-hash/shiv/YAthe captivesהֵנָּהHEN/nahereכִּיkibecauseלְאַשְׁמַתle/ash/MATfor guilt againstיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDעָלֵינוּa/LE/nuupon usאַתֶּםat/TEMyouאֹמְרִיםom/RIMintendלְהֹסִיףle/ho/SIFto addעַל־חַטֹּאתֵנוּal-chat/to/TE/nuto our sinsוְעַל־אַשְׁמָתֵנוּve/AL-ash/ma/TE/nuand to our guiltכִּי־רַבָּהki-rab/BAfor great isאַשְׁמָהash/MAthe guiltלָנוּLA/nuto usוַחֲרוֹןva/cha/RONand fierceאָףafangerעַל־יִשְׂרָאֵל׃al-Yis/ra/ELis upon Israel

    And said unto them, Ye shall not bring in the captives hither: for whereas we have offended against the LORD already, ye intend to add more to our sins and to our trespass: for our trespass is great, and there is fierce wrath against Israel.

14. 14

    וַיַּעֲזֹבvay/ya/a/ZOVso leftהֶחָלוּץhe/cha/LUTSthe armed menאֶת־הַשִּׁבְיָהet-hash/shiv/YAthe captivesוְאֶת־הַבִּזָּהve/ET-hab/biz/ZAand the spoilלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeהַשָּׂרִיםhas/sa/RIMthe princesוְכׇל־הַקָּהָל׃ve/KHOL-hak/ka/HALand all the assembly

    So the armed men left the captives and the spoil before the princes and all the congregation.

    וַיָּקֻמוּvay/ya/KU/muand rose upהָאֲנָשִׁיםha/a/na/SHIMthe menאֲשֶׁר־נִקְּבוּa/SHER-nik/ke/VUwho were designatedבְשֵׁמוֹתve/she/MOTby namesוַיַּחֲזִיקוּvay/ya/cha/ZI/kuand tookבַשִּׁבְיָהvash/shiv/YAthe captivesוְכׇל־מַעֲרֻמֵּיהֶםve/KHOL-ma/a/rum/me/HEMand all their nakedהִלְבִּישׁוּhil/BI/shuthey clothedמִן־הַשָּׁלָלmin-hash/sha/LALfrom the spoilוַיַּלְבִּשֻׁםvay/yal/bi/SHUMand they clothed themוַיַּנְעִלוּםvay/yan/i/LUMand they shod themוַיַּאֲכִלוּםvay/ya/a/khi/LUMand they fed themוַיַּשְׁקוּםvay/yash/KUMand gave them drinkוַיְסֻכוּםvay/su/KHUMand they anointed themוַיְנַהֲלוּםvay/na/ha/LUMand carried themבַּחֲמֹרִיםba/cha/mo/RIMon the donkeysלְכׇל־כּוֹשֵׁלle/KHOL-ko/SHELall the feebleוַיְבִיאוּםvay/vi/UMand they brought themיְרֵחוֹYe/re/CHOto Jerichoעִיר־הַתְּמָרִיםir-hat/te/ma/RIMthe city of palm treesאֵצֶלE/tseltoאֲחֵיהֶםa/che/HEMtheir brothersוַיָּשׁוּבוּvay/ya/SHU/vuand they returnedשֹׁמְרוֹן׃Shom/RONto Samaria

    And the men which were expressed by name rose up, and took the captives, and with the spoil clothed all that were naked among them, and arrayed them, and shod them, and gave them to eat and to drink, and anointed them, and carried all the feeble of them upon asses, and brought them to Jericho, the city of palm trees, to their brethren: then they returned to Samaria.

    At that time did king Ahaz send unto the kings of Assyria to help him.

17. 17

    וְעוֹדve/ODfor againאֲדוֹמִיםA/do/MIMthe EdomitesבָּאוּBA/ucameוַיַּכּוּvay/yak/KUand they struckבִיהוּדָהVi/hu/DAJudahוַיִּשְׁבּוּ־שֶׁבִי׃vay/yish/BU-SHE/viand carried away captives

    For again the Edomites had come and smitten Judah, and carried away captives.

18. 18

    וּפְלִשְׁתִּיםu/Fe/lish/TIMand Philistinesפָּשְׁטוּpa/she/TUhad invadedבְּעָרֵיbe/a/REin the cities ofהַשְּׁפֵלָהhash/She/fe/LAthe Shephelahוְהַנֶּגֶבve/han/NE/gevand the NegevלִיהוּדָהlI/hu/DAof Judahוַיִּלְכְּדוּvay/yil/ke/DUand had takenאֶת־בֵּית־שֶׁמֶשׁet-Bet-SHE/meshBeth-shemeshוְאֶת־אַיָּלוֹןve/ET-ay/ya/LONand Aijalonוְאֶת־הַגְּדֵרוֹתve/ET-hag/ge/de/ROTand the Gederothוְאֶת־שׂוֹכוֹve/ET-so/KHOand Shocoוּבְנוֹתֶיהָu/ve/no/TE/haand its villagesוְאֶת־תִּמְנָהve/ET-tim/NAand Timnahוּבְנוֹתֶיהָu/ve/no/TE/haand its villagesוְאֶת־גִּמְזוֹve/ET-gim/ZOand Gimzoוְאֶת־בְּנֹתֶיהָve/ET-be/no/TE/haand its villagesוַיֵּשְׁבוּvay/yesh/VUand dweltשָׁם׃shamthere

    The Philistines also had invaded the cities of the low country, and of the south of Judah, and had taken Beth-shemesh, and Ajalon, and Gederoth, and Shocho with the villages thereof, and Timnah with the villages thereof, Gimzo also and the villages thereof: and they dwelt there.

19. 19

    כִּי־הִכְנִיעַki-hikh/NI/afor brought lowיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֶת־יְהוּדָהet-Ye/hu/DAJudahבַּעֲבוּרba/a/VURbecause ofאָחָזA/CHAZAhazמֶלֶךְ־יִשְׂרָאֵלME/lekh-Yis/ra/ELthe king of Israelכִּיkibecauseהִפְרִיעַhif/RI/ahe had let looseבִּיהוּדָהbI/hu/DAin Judahוּמָעוֹלu/ma/OLand transgressedמַעַלMA/ala trespassבַּיהֹוָה׃ba-Adonaiagainst the LORD

    For the LORD brought Judah low because of Ahaz king of Israel; for he made Judah naked, and transgressed sore against the LORD.

20. 20

    וַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand cameעָלָיוa/LAYVagainst himתִּלְּגַתTil/le/GATTiglath-פִּלְנְאֶסֶרpil/ne/E/serpileserמֶלֶךְME/lekhthe king ofאַשּׁוּרAsh/SHURAssyriaוַיָּצַרvay/YA/tsarand distressedלוֹlohimוְלֹאve/LObut notחֲזָקוֹ׃cha/za/KOstrengthened him

    And Tilgath-pilneser king of Assyria came unto him, and distressed him, but strengthened him not.

21. 21

    כִּי־חָלַקki-cha/LAKfor took a portion fromאָחָזA/CHAZAhazאֶת־בֵּיתet-betthe house ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDוְאֶת־בֵּיתve/ET-betand the house ofהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingוְהַשָּׂרִיםve/has/sa/RIMand of the princesוַיִּתֵּןvay/yit/TENand gaveלְמֶלֶךְle/ME/lekhto the king ofאַשּׁוּרAsh/SHURAssyriaוְלֹאve/LObut notלְעֶזְרָהle/ez/RAa helpלוֹ׃loto him

    For Ahaz took away a portion out of the house of the LORD, and out of the house of the king, and of the princes, and gave it unto the king of Assyria: but he helped him not.

    וּבְעֵתu/ve/ETand in the time ofהָצֵרha/TSERdistressלוֹlohisוַיּוֹסֶףvay/YO/sefhe addedלִמְעוֹלlim/OLto transgressבַּיהֹוָהba-Adonaiagainst the LORDהוּאhuthisהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingאָחָז׃A/CHAZAhaz

    And in the time of his distress did he trespass yet more against the LORD: this is that king Ahaz.

    וַיִּזְבַּחvay/yiz/BACHand he sacrificedלֵאלֹהֵיle/lo/HEto the gods ofדַרְמֶשֶׂקDar/ME/sekDamascusהַמַּכִּיםham/mak/KIMwho had struckבּוֹbohimוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidכִּיkibecauseאֱלֹהֵיe/lo/HEthe gods ofמַלְכֵי־אֲרָםmal/KHE-A/RAMthe kings of Aramהֵםhemtheyמַעְזְרִיםma/ze/RIMhelpאֹתָםo/TAMthemלָהֶםla/HEMto themאֲזַבֵּחַa/zab/BE/achI will sacrificeוְיַעְזְרוּנִיve/ya/ze/RU/nithat they may help meוְהֵםve/HEMbut theyהָיוּ־לוֹha/YU-lowere to himלְהַכְשִׁילוֹle/hakh/shi/LOthe ruin of himוּלְכׇל־יִשְׂרָאֵל׃u/Le/KHOL-yis/ra/ELand of all Israel

    For he sacrificed unto the gods of Damascus, which smote him: and he said, Because the gods of the kings of Syria help them, therefore will I sacrifice to them, that they may help me. But they were the ruin of him, and of all Israel.

    וַיֶּאֱסֹףvay/ye/e/SOFand he gatheredאָחָזA/CHAZAhazאֶת־כְּלֵיet-ke/LEthe vessels ofבֵית־הָאֱלֹהִיםvet-ha/e/lo/HIMthe house of Godוַיְקַצֵּץvay/kats/TSETSand cut in piecesאֶת־כְּלֵיet-ke/LEthe vessels ofבֵית־הָאֱלֹהִיםvet-ha/e/lo/HIMthe house of Godוַיִּסְגֹּרvay/yis/GORand shutאֶת־דַּלְתוֹתet-dal/TOTthe doors ofבֵּית־יְהֹוָהbet-Adonaithe house of the LORDוַיַּעַשׂvay/YA/asand he madeלוֹlofor himselfמִזְבְּחוֹתmiz/be/CHOTaltarsבְּכׇל־פִּנָּהbe/KHOL-pin/NAin every cornerבִּירוּשָׁלָ͏ִם׃bI/ru/sha/LA/yimin Jerusalem

    And Ahaz gathered together the vessels of the house of God, and cut in pieces the vessels of the house of God, and shut up the doors of the house of the LORD, and he made him altars in every corner of Jerusalem.

    וּבְכׇל־עִירu/ve/KHOL-irand in every cityוָעִירva/IRand cityלִיהוּדָהlI/hu/DAof Judahעָשָׂהa/SAhe madeבָמוֹתva/MOThigh placesלְקַטֵּרle/kat/TERto burn incenseלֵאלֹהִים־אֲחֵרִיםle/lo/HIM-a/che/RIMto other godsוַיַּכְעֵסvay/yakh/ESand he provoked to angerאֶת־יְהֹוָהet-Adonaithe LORDאֱלֹהֵיe/lo/HEthe God ofאֲבֹתָיו׃a/vo/TAYVhis fathers

    And in every several city of Judah he made high places to burn incense unto other gods, and provoked to anger the LORD God of his fathers.

    וְיֶתֶרve/YE/terand the rest ofדְּבָרָיוde/va/RAYVof his actsוְכׇל־דְּרָכָיוve/KHOL-de/ra/KHAYVand all his waysהָרִאשֹׁנִיםha/ri/sho/NIMthe firstוְהָאַחֲרוֹנִיםve/ha/a/cha/ro/NIMand the lastהִנָּםhin/NAMbehold they areכְּתוּבִיםke/tu/VIMwrittenעַל־סֵפֶרal-SE/ferin the book ofמַלְכֵי־יְהוּדָהmal/KHE-Ye/hu/DAthe kings of Judahוְיִשְׂרָאֵל׃ve/Yis/ra/ELand Israel

    וַיִּשְׁכַּבvay/yish/KAVand sleptאָחָזA/CHAZAhazעִם־אֲבֹתָיוim-a/vo/TAYVwith his fathersוַיִּקְבְּרֻהוּvay/yik/be/RU/huand they buried himבָעִירva/IRin the cityבִּירוּשָׁלַ͏ִםbI/ru/sha/LA/yimin Jerusalemכִּיkibecauseלֹאlonotהֱבִיאֻהוּhe/vi/U/hudid they bring himלְקִבְרֵיle/kiv/REinto the tombs ofמַלְכֵיmal/KHEthe kings ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelוַיִּמְלֹךְvay/yim/LOKHand reignedיְחִזְקִיָּהוּYe/chiz/kiy/YA/huHezekiahבְנוֹve/NOhis sonתַּחְתָּיו׃tach/TAYVin his place

    And Ahaz slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city, even in Jerusalem: but they brought him not into the sepulchres of the kings of Israel: and Hezekiah his son reigned in his stead.
