1. 1

   וַיִּשְׁכַּבand sleptיְהוֹשָׁפָטJehoshaphatעִם־אֲבֹתָיוwith his fathersוַיִּקָּבֵרand was buriedעִם־אֲבֹתָיוwith his fathersבְּעִירin the city ofדָּוִידDavidוַיִּמְלֹךְand he did reignיְהוֹרָםJehoramבְּנוֹhis sonתַּחְתָּיו׃in his stead

   Now Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David. And Jehoram his son reigned in his stead.

   וְלוֹ־אַחִיםand unto him brothersבְּנֵיthe sons ofיְהוֹשָׁפָטJehoshaphatעֲזַרְיָהAzariahוִיחִיאֵלand Jehielוּזְכַרְיָהוּand Zechariahוַעֲזַרְיָהוּand Azariahוּמִיכָאֵלand Michaelוּשְׁפַטְיָהוּand Shephatiahכׇּל־אֵלֶּהall theseבְּנֵיthe sons ofיְהוֹשָׁפָטJehoshaphatמֶלֶךְ־יִשְׂרָאֵל׃king of Israel

   And he had brethren the sons of Jehoshaphat, Azariah, and Jehiel, and Zechariah, and Azariah, and Michael, and Shephatiah: all these were the sons of Jehoshaphat king of Israel.

   וַיִּתֵּןand gaveלָהֶםto themאֲבִיהֶםtheir fatherמַתָּנוֹתgiftsרַבּוֹתmanyלְכֶסֶףto silverוּלְזָהָבand for goldוּלְמִגְדָּנוֹתand to excellent thingsעִם־עָרֵיwith the cities ofמְצֻרוֹתfortificationsבִּיהוּדָהthrough Judahוְאֶת־הַמַּמְלָכָהand the kingdomנָתַןgaveלִיהוֹרָםof Jehoramכִּי־הוּאbecause it isהַבְּכוֹר׃the firstborn

   And their father gave them great gifts of silver, and of gold, and of precious things, with fenced cities in Judah: but the kingdom gave he to Jehoram; because he was the firstborn.

   וַיָּקׇםand he aroseיְהוֹרָםJehoramעַל־מַמְלֶכֶתupon the kingdom ofאָבִיוhis fatherוַיִּתְחַזַּקand he strengthened himselfוַיַּהֲרֹגand he murderedאֶת־כׇּל־אֶחָיוall his brethrenבֶּחָרֶבby the swordוְגַםand alsoמִשָּׂרֵיfrom my princesיִשְׂרָאֵל׃Israel

   Now when Jehoram was risen up to the kingdom of his father, he strengthened himself, and slew all his brethren with the sword, and divers also of the princes of Israel.

   בֶּן־שְׁלֹשִׁיםson of thirtyוּשְׁתַּיִםand twoשָׁנָהyearsיְהוֹרָםJehoramבְּמׇלְכוֹwhen he began to reignוּשְׁמוֹנֶהand eightשָׁנִיםyearsמָלַךְreignedבִּירוּשָׁלָ͏ִם׃in Jerusalem

   Jehoram was thirty and two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem.

6. 6

   וַיֵּלֶךְand wentבְּדֶרֶךְby the way ofמַלְכֵיkings ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelכַּאֲשֶׁרasעָשׂוּthey didבֵּיתthe house ofאַחְאָבAhabכִּיforבַּת־אַחְאָבdaughter of Ahabהָיְתָהwasלּוֹto himאִשָּׁהa womanוַיַּעַשׂand he didהָרַעthe evilבְּעֵינֵיin the eyes ofיְהֹוָה׃the LORD

   And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, like as did the house of Ahab: for he had the daughter of Ahab to wife: and he wrought that which was evil in the eyes of the LORD.

7. 7

   וְלֹא־אָבָהand not was willingיְהֹוָהthe LORDלְהַשְׁחִיתto destroyאֶת־בֵּיתhouse ofדָּוִידDavidלְמַעַןin order thatהַבְּרִיתthe covenantאֲשֶׁרwhichכָּרַתHe madeלְדָוִידof Davidוְכַאֲשֶׁרand asאָמַרsaidלָתֵתto giveלוֹto himנִירa lampוּלְבָנָיוand for his sonsכׇּל־הַיָּמִים׃all the days

   Howbeit the LORD would not destroy the house of David, because of the covenant that he had made with David, and as he promised to give a light to him and to his sons for ever.

8. 8

   בְּיָמָיוin his daysפָּשַׁעhe has rebelledאֱדוֹםEdomמִתַּחַתfrom beneathיַד־יְהוּדָהhand of Judahוַיַּמְלִיכוּand they made kingעֲלֵיהֶםupon themמֶלֶךְ׃the king of

   In his days the Edomites revolted from under the dominion of Judah, and made themselves a king.

9. 9

   וַיַּעֲבֹרand overcameיְהוֹרָםJehoramעִם־שָׂרָיוwith his captainsוְכׇל־הָרֶכֶבand all the chariotsעִמּוֹwith himוַיְהִיand it came to passקָםaroseלַיְלָהnightוַיַּךְand he smoteאֶת־אֱדוֹםEdomהַסּוֹבֵבis the one which goes aroundאֵלָיוto himוְאֵתandשָׂרֵיcaptains ofהָרָכֶב׃the chariotry

   Then Jehoram went forth with his princes, and all his chariots with him: and he rose up by night, and smote the Edomites which compassed him in, and the captains of the chariots.

    וַיִּפְשַׁעand it rebelledאֱדוֹםEdomמִתַּחַתfrom beneathיַד־יְהוּדָהhand of Judahעַדuntilהַיּוֹםthe dayהַזֶּהthisאָזthenתִּפְשַׁעit rebelledלִבְנָהLibnahבָּעֵתat the timeהַהִיאthatמִתַּחַתfrom beneathיָדוֹhis handכִּיbecauseעָזַבleftאֶת־יְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהֵיthe God ofאֲבֹתָיו׃his fathers

    So the Edomites revolted from under the hand of Judah unto this day. The same time also did Libnah revolt from under his hand; because he had forsaken the LORD God of his fathers.

11. 11

    גַּם־הוּאalso heעָשָׂה־בָמוֹתhe did high placesבְּהָרֵיin the mountains ofיְהוּדָהJudahוַיֶּזֶןand caused to commit fornicationאֶת־יֹשְׁבֵיthe inhabitants ofיְרוּשָׁלַ͏ִםJerusalemוַיַּדַּחand he enticed awayאֶת־יְהוּדָה׃Judah

    Moreover he made high places in the mountains of Judah, and caused the inhabitants of Jerusalem to commit fornication, and compelled Judah thereto.

12. 12

    וַיָּבֹאand cameאֵלָיוto himמִכְתָּבa writingמֵאֵלִיָּהוּfrom Elijahהַנָּבִיאthe prophetלֵאמֹרsayingכֹּהthusאָמַרsaidיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהֵיthe God ofדָּוִידDavidאָבִיךָyour fatherתַּחַתunderאֲשֶׁרwhichלֹא־הָלַכְתָּnot you have walkedבְּדַרְכֵיin the ways ofיְהוֹשָׁפָטJehoshaphatאָבִיךָyour fatherוּבְדַרְכֵיand in the ways ofאָסָאAsaמֶלֶךְ־יְהוּדָה׃king of Judah

    And there came a writing to him from Elijah the prophet, saying, Thus saith the LORD God of David thy father, Because thou hast not walked in the ways of Jehoshaphat thy father, nor in the ways of Asa king of Judah,

13. 13

    וַתֵּלֶךְbut you have walkedבְּדֶרֶךְby the way ofמַלְכֵיkings ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelוַתַּזְנֶהand you have made unfaithfulאֶת־יְהוּדָהJudahוְאֶת־יֹשְׁבֵיand inhabitants ofיְרוּשָׁלַ͏ִםJerusalemכְּהַזְנוֹתlike the unfaithfulness ofבֵּיתthe house ofאַחְאָבAhabוְגַםand alsoאֶת־אַחֶיךָyour brothersבֵית־אָבִיךָhouse of your fatherהַטּוֹבִיםthe goodמִמְּךָfrom youהָרָגְתָּ׃you have slain

    But hast walked in the way of the kings of Israel, and hast made Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to go a whoring, like to the whoredoms of the house of Ahab, and also hast slain thy brethren of thy father's house, which were better than thyself:

14. 14

    הִנֵּהbeholdיְהֹוָהthe LORDנֹגֵףam about to strikeמַגֵּפָהa slaughterגְדוֹלָהgreatבְּעַמֶּךָon your peopleוּבְבָנֶיךָand on your sonsוּבְנָשֶׁיךָand on your wivesוּבְכׇל־רְכוּשֶׁךָ׃and in all your property

    Behold, with a great plague will the LORD smite thy people, and thy children, and thy wives, and all thy goods:

15. 15

    וְאַתָּהand youבׇּחֳלָיִיםin sicknessרַבִּיםmanyבְּמַחֲלֵהin the sickness ofמֵעֶיךָyour bowelsעַד־יֵצְאוּuntil go forthמֵעֶיךָyour bowelsמִן־הַחֹלִיfrom the sicknessיָמִיםdaysעַל־יָמִים׃upon days

    And thou shalt have great sickness by disease of thy bowels, until thy bowels fall out by reason of the sickness day by day.

16. 16

    וַיָּעַרand stirred upיְהֹוָהthe LORDעַל־יְהוֹרָםupon Jehoramאֵת־רוּחַthe spirit ofהַפְּלִשְׁתִּיםthe Philistinesוְהָעַרְבִיםand the Arabiansאֲשֶׁרwhichעַל־יַדbesideכּוּשִׁים׃the Cushites

    Moreover the LORD stirred up against Jehoram the spirit of the Philistines, and of the Arabians, that were near the Ethiopians:

17. 17

    וַיַּעֲלוּand they ascendedבִיהוּדָהagainst Judahוַיִּבְקָעוּהָand they broke into itוַיִּשְׁבּוּand they carried away captiveאֵת־כׇּל־הָרְכוּשׁall the propertyהַנִּמְצָאthe one foundלְבֵית־הַמֶּלֶךְto the house of the kingוְגַם־בָּנָיוand also his sonsוְנָשָׁיוand his wivesוְלֹאand notנִשְׁאַר־לוֹremained himבֵּןa sonכִּיthatאִם־יְהוֹאָחָזif Jehoahazקְטֹןthe young one ofבָּנָיו׃his sons

    And they came up into Judah, and brake into it, and carried away all the substance that was found in the king's house, and his sons also, and his wives; so that there was never a son left him, save Jehoahaz, the youngest of his sons.

18. 18

    וְאַחֲרֵיand afterכׇּל־זֹאתall thisנְגָפוֹstruck himיְהֹוָהthe LORDבְּמֵעָיוin his bowelsלׇחֳלִיwith a sicknessלְאֵיןto there is noמַרְפֵּא׃healing

    And after all this the LORD smote him in his bowels with an incurable disease.

19. 19

    וַיְהִיand it came to passלְיָמִיםto daysמִיָּמִיםfrom daysוּכְעֵתand about the time ofצֵאתthe going out ofהַקֵּץthe endלְיָמִיםto daysשְׁנַיִםtwoיָצְאוּwent forthמֵעָיוhis bowelsעִם־חׇלְיוֹwith his sicknessוַיָּמׇתand he diedבְּתַחֲלֻאִיםin diseasesרָעִיםevilוְלֹא־עָשׂוּand not they didלוֹto himעַמּוֹhis peopleשְׂרֵפָהa burningכִּשְׂרֵפַתlike the burning ofאֲבֹתָיו׃his fathers

    And it came to pass, that in process of time, after the end of two years, his bowels fell out by reason of his sickness: so he died of sore diseases. And his people made no burning for him, like the burning of his fathers.

20. 20

    בֶּן־שְׁלֹשִׁיםson of thirtyוּשְׁתַּיִםand twoהָיָהwasבְמׇלְכוֹwhen he began to reignוּשְׁמוֹנֶהand eightשָׁנִיםyearsמָלַךְreignedבִּירוּשָׁלָ͏ִםin Jerusalemוַיֵּלֶךְand wentבְּלֹאwithoutחֶמְדָּהdesireוַיִּקְבְּרֻהוּand they buried himבְּעִירin the city ofדָּוִידDavidוְלֹאand notבְּקִבְרוֹתin the graves ofהַמְּלָכִים׃the kings

    Thirty and two years old was he when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years, and departed without being desired. Howbeit they buried him in the city of David, but not in the sepulchres of the kings.
