   וַיָּשׇׁבand he returnedיְהוֹשָׁפָטJehoshaphatמֶלֶךְ־יְהוּדָהking of Judahאֶל־בֵּיתוֹto his houseבְּשָׁלוֹםin peaceלִירוּשָׁלָ͏ִם׃to Jerusalem

   And Jehoshaphat the king of Judah returned to his house in peace to Jerusalem.

2. 2

   וַיֵּצֵאand went outאֶל־פָּנָיוto his faceיֵהוּאJehuבֶן־חֲנָנִיson of Hananiהַחֹזֶהthe seerוַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֶל־הַמֶּלֶךְunto the kingיְהוֹשָׁפָטJehoshaphatהֲלָרָשָׁעis it the wickedלַעְזֹרto helpוּלְשֹׂנְאֵיand those who hateיְהֹוָהthe LORDתֶּאֱהָבwill you loveוּבָזֹאתand thereforeעָלֶיךָupon youקֶּצֶףwrathמִלִּפְנֵיfrom the presence ofיְהֹוָה׃the LORD

   And Jehu the son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him, and said to king Jehoshaphat, Shouldest thou help the ungodly, and love them that hate the LORD? therefore is wrath upon thee from before the LORD.

   אֲבָלbutדְּבָרִיםwordsטוֹבִיםgoodנִמְצְאוּthey were foundעִמָּךְwith youכִּי־בִעַרְתָּbecause you have removedהָאֲשֵׁרוֹתthe Asherah polesמִן־הָאָרֶץfrom the landוַהֲכִינוֹתָand you have directedלְבָבְךָyour heartלִדְרֹשׁto seekהָאֱלֹהִים׃God

   Nevertheless there are good things found in thee, in that thou hast taken away the groves out of the land, and hast prepared thine heart to seek God.

   וַיֵּשֶׁבand he dweltיְהוֹשָׁפָטJehoshaphatבִּירוּשָׁלָ͏ִםin Jerusalemוַיָּשׇׁבand he returnedוַיֵּצֵאand went outבָעָםon the peopleמִבְּאֵרfrom Beer-שֶׁבַעshebaעַד־הַרuntil mountainאֶפְרַיִםEphraimוַיְשִׁיבֵםand he turned back themאֶל־יְהֹוָהto the LORDאֱלֹהֵיthe God ofאֲבוֹתֵיהֶם׃their fathers

   And Jehoshaphat dwelt at Jerusalem: and he went out again through the people from Beer-sheba to mount Ephraim, and brought them back unto the LORD God of their fathers.

   וַיַּעֲמֵדand he stoodשֹׁפְטִיםjudgesבָּאָרֶץin the landבְּכׇל־עָרֵיin all cities ofיְהוּדָהJudahהַבְּצֻרוֹתthe fortifiedלְעִירto cityוָעִיר׃and a city

   And he set judges in the land throughout all the fenced cities of Judah, city by city,

   וַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֶל־הַשֹּׁפְטִיםto the judgesרְאוּbeholdמָה־אַתֶּםwhat you areעֹשִׂיםdoכִּיbecauseלֹאnotלְאָדָםto manתִּשְׁפְּטוּshall you judgeכִּיbecauseלַיהֹוָהto the LORDוְעִמָּכֶםand are with youבִּדְבַרby the word ofמִשְׁפָּט׃judgment

   And said to the judges, Take heed what ye do: for ye judge not for man, but for the LORD, who is with you in the judgment.

7. 7

   וְעַתָּהand nowיְהִיlet this beפַחַד־יְהֹוָהthe fear of the LORDעֲלֵיכֶםover youשִׁמְרוּtake heedוַעֲשׂוּand doכִּי־אֵיןbecause there is noעִם־יְהֹוָהwith the LORDאֱלֹהֵינוּour Godעַוְלָהinjusticeוּמַשֹּׂאand lifting up ofפָנִיםof personsוּמִקַּח־שֹׁחַד׃and taking of a bribe

   Wherefore now let the fear of the LORD be upon you; take heed and do it: for there is no iniquity with the LORD our God, nor respect of persons, nor taking of gifts.

   וְגַםand alsoבִּירוּשָׁלַ͏ִםin JerusalemהֶעֱמִידestablishedיְהוֹשָׁפָטJehoshaphatמִן־הַלְוִיִּםfrom the Levitesוְהַכֹּהֲנִיםand the priestsוּמֵרָאשֵׁיand some of the heads ofהָאָבוֹתthe fathersלְיִשְׂרָאֵלto Israelלְמִשְׁפַּטfor the judgment ofיְהֹוָהthe LORDוְלָרִיבand to pleadוַיָּשֻׁבוּand they returnedיְרוּשָׁלָ͏ִם׃Jerusalem

   Moreover in Jerusalem did Jehoshaphat set of the Levites, and of the priests, and of the chief of the fathers of Israel, for the judgment of the LORD, and for controversies, when they returned to Jerusalem.

9. 9

   וַיְצַוand commandedעֲלֵיהֶםupon themלֵאמֹרsayingכֹּהthusתַעֲשׂוּןyou shall makeבְּיִרְאַתin the fear ofיְהֹוָהthe LORDבֶּאֱמוּנָהfaithfullyוּבְלֵבָבand with a heartשָׁלֵם׃perfect

   And he charged them, saying, Thus shall ye do in the fear of the LORD, faithfully, and with a perfect heart.

    וְכׇל־רִיבand all contentionאֲשֶׁר־יָבוֹאwhich shall comeעֲלֵיכֶםover youמֵאֲחֵיכֶםthan your brethrenהַיֹּשְׁבִיםthe inhabitantsבְּעָרֵיהֶםin their citiesבֵּין־דָּםamong bloodלְדָםfor bloodבֵּין־תּוֹרָהbetween lawלְמִצְוָהand commandmentלְחֻקִּיםand statutesוּלְמִשְׁפָּטִיםand judgmentsוְהִזְהַרְתֶּםand you will warnאֹתָםthemוְלֹאand notיֶאְשְׁמוּthey shall be guiltyלַיהֹוָהto the LORDוְהָיָה־קֶצֶףand be wrathעֲלֵיכֶםover youוְעַל־אֲחֵיכֶםand upon your brethrenכֹּהthusתַעֲשׂוּןyou shall makeוְלֹאand notתֶאְשָׁמוּ׃you will be guilty

    And what cause soever shall come to you of your brethren that dwell in their cities, between blood and blood, between law and commandment, statutes and judgments, ye shall even warn them that they trespass not against the LORD, and so wrath come upon you, and upon your brethren: this do, and ye shall not trespass.

    וְהִנֵּהand beholdאֲמַרְיָהוּAmariahכֹהֵןa priestהָרֹאשׁthe chiefעֲלֵיכֶםover youלְכֹלfor allדְּבַר־יְהֹוָהthe word of the LORDוּזְבַדְיָהוּand Zebadiahבֶן־יִשְׁמָעֵאלson of Ishmaelהַנָּגִידwas the leaderלְבֵית־יְהוּדָהto the house of Judahלְכֹלfor allדְּבַר־הַמֶּלֶךְword of the kingוְשֹׁטְרִיםand officialsהַלְוִיִּםthe Levitesלִפְנֵיכֶםunto youחִזְקוּbe strongוַעֲשׂוּand doוִיהִיand may beיְהֹוָהthe LORDעִם־הַטּוֹב׃with the good

    And, behold, Amariah the chief priest is over you in all matters of the LORD; and Zebadiah the son of Ishmael, the ruler of the house of Judah, for all the king's matters: also the Levites shall be officers before you. Deal courageously, and the LORD shall be with the good.
