   And Solomon made affinity with Pharaoh king of Egypt, and took Pharaoh's daughter, and brought her into the city of David, until he had made an end of building his own house, and the house of the LORD, and the wall of Jerusalem round about.

   Only the people sacrificed in high places, because there was no house built unto the name of the LORD, until those days.

   וַיֶּאֱהַבvay/ye/e/HAVand lovedשְׁלֹמֹהShe/lo/MOSolomonאֶת־יְהֹוָהet-Adonaithe LORDלָלֶכֶתla/LE/khetto walkבְּחֻקּוֹתbe/chuk/KOTin the statutes ofדָּוִדDa/VIDDavidאָבִיוa/VIVhis fatherרַקrakonlyבַּבָּמוֹתbab/ba/MOTat the high placesהוּאhuheמְזַבֵּחַme/zab/BE/achwas sacrificingוּמַקְטִיר׃u/mak/TIRand burning incense

   And Solomon loved the LORD, walking in the statutes of David his father: only he sacrificed and burnt incense in high places.

   And the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there; for that was the great high place: a thousand burnt offerings did Solomon offer upon that altar.

   In Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night: and God said, Ask what I shall give thee.

   And Solomon said, Thou hast shewed unto thy servant David my father great mercy, according as he walked before thee in truth, and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with thee; and thou hast kept for him this great kindness, that thou hast given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day.

   וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowיְהֹוָהAdonaiO LORDאֱלֹהָיe/lo/HAYmy Godאַתָּהat/TAYouהִמְלַכְתָּhim/LAKH/tahave made kingאֶת־עַבְדְּךָet-av/de/KHAYour servantתַּחַתTA/chatin place ofדָּוִדDa/VIDDavidאָבִיa/VImy fatherוְאָנֹכִיve/a/no/KHIand I amנַעַרNA/ara youthקָטֹןka/TONsmallלֹאlonotאֵדַעe/DAI knowצֵאתtsetto go outוָבֹא׃va/VOand to come in

   And now, O LORD my God, thou hast made thy servant king instead of David my father: and I am but a little child: I know not how to go out or come in.

8. 8

   וְעַבְדְּךָve/av/de/KHAand Your servantבְּתוֹךְbe/TOKHamongעַמְּךָam/me/KHAYour peopleאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhomבָּחָרְתָּba/CHAR/taYou have chosenעַם־רָבam-rava great peopleאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatלֹא־יִמָּנֶהlo-yim/ma/NEcannot be numberedוְלֹאve/LOand notיִסָּפֵרyis/sa/FERbe countedמֵרֹב׃me/ROVfor multitude

   And thy servant is in the midst of thy people which thou hast chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude.

   וְנָתַתָּve/na/tat/TAso giveלְעַבְדְּךָle/av/de/KHAto Your servantלֵבleva heartשֹׁמֵעַsho/ME/athat hearsלִשְׁפֹּטlish/POTto judgeאֶת־עַמְּךָet-am/me/KHAYour peopleלְהָבִיןle/ha/VINto discernבֵּין־טוֹבben-tovbetween goodלְרָעle/RAand evilכִּיkiforמִיmiwhoיוּכַלyu/KHALcanלִשְׁפֹּטlish/POTto judgeאֶת־עַמְּךָet-am/me/KHAYour peopleהַכָּבֵדhak/ka/VEDgreatהַזֶּה׃haz/ZEthis

   Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people?

    וַיִּיטַבvay/yi/TAVand it was goodהַדָּבָרhad/da/VARthe thingבְּעֵינֵיbe/e/NEin the eyes ofאֲדֹנָיa/do/NAYthe Lordכִּיkithatשָׁאַלsha/ALhe askedשְׁלֹמֹהShe/lo/MOSolomonאֶת־הַדָּבָרet-had/da/VARthe thingהַזֶּה׃haz/ZEthis

    And the speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing.

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himיַעַןYA/anbecauseאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatשָׁאַלְתָּsha/AL/tayou have askedאֶת־הַדָּבָרet-had/da/VARthe thingהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisוְלֹא־שָׁאַלְתָּve/LO-sha/AL/taand have not askedלְּךָle/KHAfor yourselfיָמִיםya/MIMdaysרַבִּיםrab/BIMmanyוְלֹא־שָׁאַלְתָּve/LO-sha/AL/taand have not askedלְּךָle/KHAfor yourselfעֹשֶׁרO/sherrichesוְלֹאve/LOand notשָׁאַלְתָּsha/AL/tahave askedנֶפֶשׁNE/feshthe life ofאֹיְבֶיךָoy/VE/khayour enemiesוְשָׁאַלְתָּve/sha/al/TAbut have askedלְּךָle/KHAfor yourselfהָבִיןha/VINdiscernmentלִשְׁמֹעַlish/MO/ato hearמִשְׁפָּט׃mish/PATjudgment

    And God said unto him, Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself long life; neither hast asked riches for thyself, nor hast asked the life of thine enemies; but hast asked for thyself understanding to discern judgment;

12. 12

    הִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdעָשִׂיתִיa/SI/tiI have doneכִּדְבָרֶיךָkid/va/RE/khaaccording to your wordsהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdנָתַתִּיna/TAT/tiI have givenלְךָle/KHAyouלֵבleva heartחָכָםcha/KHAMwiseוְנָבוֹןve/na/VONand discerningאֲשֶׁרa/SHERso thatכָּמוֹךָka/MO/khalike youלֹא־הָיָהlo-ha/YAthere has not beenלְפָנֶיךָle/fa/NE/khabefore youוְאַחֲרֶיךָve/a/cha/RE/khaand after youלֹא־יָקוּםlo-ya/KUMshall not ariseכָּמוֹךָ׃ka/MO/khalike you

    Behold, I have done according to thy words: lo, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart; so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee.

    וְגַםve/GAMand alsoאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhatלֹא־שָׁאַלְתָּlo-sha/AL/tayou have not askedנָתַתִּיna/TAT/tiI have givenלָךְlakhto youגַּם־עֹשֶׁרgam-O/sherboth richesגַּם־כָּבוֹדgam-ka/VODand honorאֲשֶׁרa/SHERso thatלֹא־הָיָהlo-ha/YAthere shall not beכָמוֹךָkha/MO/khalike youאִישׁisha manבַּמְּלָכִיםbam/me/la/KHIMamong the kingsכׇּל־יָמֶיךָ׃kol-ya/ME/khaall your days

    And I have also given thee that which thou hast not asked, both riches, and honour: so that there shall not be any among the kings like unto thee all thy days.

14. 14

    וְאִםve/IMand ifתֵּלֵךְte/LEKHyou walkבִּדְרָכַיbid/ra/KHAYin My waysלִשְׁמֹרlish/MORto keepחֻקַּיchuk/KAYMy statutesוּמִצְוֺתַיu/mits/vo/TAYand My commandmentsכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERasהָלַךְha/LAKHwalkedדָּוִידDa/VIDDavidאָבִיךָa/VI/khayour fatherוְהַאֲרַכְתִּיve/ha/a/rakh/TIthen I will lengthenאֶת־יָמֶיךָ׃et-ya/ME/khayour days

    And if thou wilt walk in my ways, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as thy father David did walk, then I will lengthen thy days.

15. 15

    וַיִּקַץvay/yi/KATSand awokeשְׁלֹמֹהShe/lo/MOSolomonוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdחֲלוֹםcha/LOMa dreamוַיָּבוֹאvay/ya/VOand cameיְרוּשָׁלַ͏ִםYe/ru/sha/LA/yimto Jerusalemוַיַּעֲמֹדvay/ya/a/MODand stoodלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeאֲרוֹןa/RONthe ark ofבְּרִית־אֲדֹנָיbe/RIT-a/do/NAYthe covenant of the Lordוַיַּעַלvay/YA/aland he offered upעֹלוֹתo/LOTburnt offeringsוַיַּעַשׂvay/YA/asand he madeשְׁלָמִיםshe/la/MIMpeace offeringsוַיַּעַשׂvay/YA/asand he madeמִשְׁתֶּהmish/TEa feastלְכׇל־עֲבָדָיו׃le/KHOL-a/va/DAYVto all his servants

    And Solomon awoke; and, behold, it was a dream. And he came to Jerusalem, and stood before the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and offered up burnt offerings, and offered peace offerings, and made a feast to all his servants.

    אָזazthenתָּבֹאנָהta/VO/nacameשְׁתַּיִםSHTA/yimtwoנָשִׁיםna/SHIMwomenזֹנוֹתzo/NOTprostitutesאֶל־הַמֶּלֶךְel-ham/ME/lekhto the kingוַתַּעֲמֹדְנָהvat/ta/a/MOD/naand they stoodלְפָנָיו׃le/fa/NAYVbefore him

    Then came there two women, that were harlots, unto the king, and stood before him.

17. 17

    וַתֹּאמֶרvat/TO/merand saidהָאִשָּׁהha/ish/SHAthe womanהָאַחַתha/a/CHATthe oneבִּיbipleaseאֲדֹנִיa/do/NImy lordאֲנִיa/NIIוְהָאִשָּׁהve/ha/ish/SHAand the womanהַזֹּאתhaz/ZOTthisיֹשְׁבֹתyosh/VOTdwellבְּבַיִתbe/VA/yitin a houseאֶחָדe/CHADoneוָאֵלֵדva/e/LEDand I gave birthעִמָּהּim/MAwith herבַּבָּיִת׃bab/BA/yitin the house

    And the one woman said, O my lord, I and this woman dwell in one house; and I was delivered of a child with her in the house.

18. 18

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passבַּיּוֹםbay/YOMon the dayהַשְּׁלִישִׁיhash/she/li/SHIthe thirdלְלִדְתִּיle/lid/TIafter my giving birthוַתֵּלֶדvat/TE/ledand gave birthגַּם־הָאִשָּׁהgam-ha/ish/SHAalso the womanהַזֹּאתhaz/ZOTthisוַאֲנַחְנוּva/a/NACH/nuand we wereיַחְדָּוyach/DAVtogetherאֵין־זָרen-zarthere was no strangerאִתָּנוּit/TA/nuwith usבַּבַּיִתbab/BA/yitin the houseזוּלָתִיzu/la/TIexceptשְׁתַּיִם־אֲנַחְנוּSHTA/yim-a/NACH/nuwe twoבַּבָּיִת׃bab/BA/yitin the house

    And it came to pass the third day after that I was delivered, that this woman was delivered also: and we were together; there was no stranger with us in the house, save we two in the house.

    וַיָּמׇתvay/YA/motand diedבֶּן־הָאִשָּׁהben-ha/ish/SHAthe son of the womanהַזֹּאתhaz/ZOTthisלָיְלָהLAY/laat nightאֲשֶׁרa/SHERbecauseשָׁכְבָהsha/khe/VAshe layעָלָיו׃a/LAYVupon him

    And this woman's child died in the night; because she overlaid it.

    וַתָּקׇםvat/TA/komand she aroseבְּתוֹךְbe/TOKHin the middle ofהַלַּיְלָהhal/LAY/lathe nightוַתִּקַּחvat/tik/KACHand she tookאֶת־בְּנִיet-be/NImy sonמֵאֶצְלִיme/ets/LIfrom beside meוַאֲמָתְךָva/a/ma/te/KHAwhile your handmaidיְשֵׁנָהye/she/NAwas sleepingוַתַּשְׁכִּיבֵהוּvat/tash/ki/VE/huand laid himבְּחֵיקָהּbe/che/KAin her bosomוְאֶת־בְּנָהּve/ET-be/NAand her sonהַמֵּתham/METthe deadהִשְׁכִּיבָהhish/KI/vashe laidבְחֵיקִי׃ve/che/KIin my bosom

    And she arose at midnight, and took my son from beside me, while thine handmaid slept, and laid it in her bosom, and laid her dead child in my bosom.

    וָאָקֻםva/a/KUMand I roseבַּבֹּקֶרbab/BO/kerin the morningלְהֵינִיקle/he/NIKto nurseאֶת־בְּנִיet-be/NImy sonוְהִנֵּה־מֵתve/hin/NE-metand behold deadוָאֶתְבּוֹנֵןva/et/bo/NENand I looked carefullyאֵלָיוe/LAYVat himבַּבֹּקֶרbab/BO/kerin the morningוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdלֹא־הָיָהlo-ha/YAit was notבְנִיve/NImy sonאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhomיָלָדְתִּי׃ya/LAD/tiI had borne

    And when I rose in the morning to give my child suck, behold, it was dead: but when I had considered it in the morning, behold, it was not my son, which I did bear.

    וַתֹּאמֶרvat/TO/merand saidהָאִשָּׁהha/ish/SHAthe womanהָאַחֶרֶתha/a/CHE/retthe otherלֹאlonoכִיkhibutבְּנִיbe/NImy sonהַחַיha/CHAYthe livingוּבְנֵךְu/ve/NEKHand your sonהַמֵּתham/METthe deadוְזֹאתve/ZOTand thisאֹמֶרֶתo/ME/retsaysלֹאlonoכִיkhibutבְּנֵךְbe/NEKHyour sonהַמֵּתham/METthe deadוּבְנִיu/ve/NIand my sonהֶחָיhe/CHAYthe livingוַתְּדַבֵּרְנָהvat/te/dab/BER/naand they spokeלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeהַמֶּלֶךְ׃ham/ME/lekhthe king

    And the other woman said, Nay; but the living is my son, and the dead is thy son. And this said, No; but the dead is thy son, and the living is my son. Thus they spake before the king.

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingזֹאתzotthisאֹמֶרֶתo/ME/retsaysזֶה־בְּנִיze-be/NIthis is my sonהַחַיha/CHAYthe livingוּבְנֵךְu/ve/NEKHand your sonהַמֵּתham/METthe deadוְזֹאתve/ZOTand thisאֹמֶרֶתo/ME/retsaysלֹאlonoכִיkhibutבְּנֵךְbe/NEKHyour sonהַמֵּתham/METthe deadוּבְנִיu/ve/NIand my sonהֶחָי׃he/CHAYthe living

    Then said the king, The one saith, This is my son that liveth, and thy son is the dead: and the other saith, Nay; but thy son is the dead, and my son is the living.

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingקְחוּke/CHUtakeלִי־חָרֶבli-CHA/revfor me a swordוַיָּבִאוּvay/ya/VI/uand they broughtהַחֶרֶבha/CHE/revthe swordלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeהַמֶּלֶךְ׃ham/ME/lekhthe king

    And the king said, Bring me a sword. And they brought a sword before the king.

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingגִּזְרוּgiz/RUdivideאֶת־הַיֶּלֶדet-hay/YE/ledthe childהַחַיha/CHAYthe livingלִשְׁנָיִםlish/NA/yiminto twoוּתְנוּu/te/NUand giveאֶת־הַחֲצִיet-ha/cha/TSIthe halfלְאַחַתle/a/CHATto the oneוְאֶת־הַחֲצִיve/ET-ha/cha/TSIand the halfלְאֶחָת׃le/e/CHATto one

    And the king said, Divide the living child in two, and give half to the one, and half to the other.

    וַתֹּאמֶרvat/TO/merand saidהָאִשָּׁהha/ish/SHAthe womanאֲשֶׁר־בְּנָהּa/SHER-be/NAwhose son wasהַחַיha/CHAYthe livingאֶל־הַמֶּלֶךְel-ham/ME/lekhto the kingכִּי־נִכְמְרוּki-nikh/me/RUfor were stirredרַחֲמֶיהָra/cha/me/HAher compassionעַל־בְּנָהּal-be/NAfor her sonוַתֹּאמֶרvat/TO/merand saidבִּיbipleaseאֲדֹנִיa/do/NImy lordתְּנוּ־לָהּte/NU-lagive herאֶת־הַיָּלוּדet-hay/ya/LUDthe childהַחַיha/CHAYthe livingוְהָמֵתve/ha/METand killאַל־תְּמִיתֻהוּal-te/mi/TU/hudo not kill himוְזֹאתve/ZOTand thisאֹמֶרֶתo/ME/retsaysגַּם־לִיgam-lialso to meגַם־לָךְgam-lakhalso to youלֹאlonotיִהְיֶהyih/YEshall beגְּזֹרוּ׃ge/ZO/rudivide

    Then spake the woman whose the living child was unto the king, for her bowels yearned upon her son, and she said, O my lord, give her the living child, and in no wise slay it. But the other said, Let it be neither mine nor thine, but divide it.

    וַיַּעַןvay/YA/anand answeredהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidתְּנוּ־לָהּte/NU-lagive herאֶת־הַיָּלוּדet-hay/ya/LUDthe childהַחַיha/CHAYthe livingוְהָמֵתve/ha/METand killלֹאlonotתְמִיתֻהוּte/mi/TU/hukill himהִיאhishe isאִמּוֹ׃im/MOhis mother

    Then the king answered and said, Give her the living child, and in no wise slay it: she is the mother thereof.

    וַיִּשְׁמְעוּvay/yish/me/Uand heardכׇל־יִשְׂרָאֵלkhol-Yis/ra/ELall Israelאֶת־הַמִּשְׁפָּטet-ham/mish/PATthe judgmentאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatשָׁפַטsha/FATjudgedהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingוַיִּרְאוּvay/yir/Uand they fearedמִפְּנֵיmip/pe/NEbeforeהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingכִּיkiforרָאוּra/Uthey sawכִּי־חׇכְמַתki-chokh/MATthat the wisdom ofאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodבְּקִרְבּוֹbe/kir/BOwithin himלַעֲשׂוֹתla/a/SOTto doמִשְׁפָּט׃mish/PATjudgment

    And all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had judged; and they feared the king: for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him, to do judgment.
