   וַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֵלִיָּהוּElijahהַתִּשְׁבִּיthe Tishbiteמִתֹּשָׁבֵיone of the resident aliens ofגִלְעָדGileadאֶל־אַחְאָבto Ahabחַי־יְהֹוָהas the LORD-livesאֱלֹהֵיthe God ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelאֲשֶׁרwhichעָמַדְתִּיI stoodלְפָנָיוbefore himאִם־יִהְיֶהthough beהַשָּׁנִיםthe yearsהָאֵלֶּהtheseטַלdewוּמָטָרand rainכִּיbecauseאִם־לְפִיif according toדְבָרִי׃My-word

   And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the LORD God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.

   וַיְהִיand it came to passדְבַר־יְהֹוָהthe word of the LORDאֵלָיוto himלֵאמֹר׃saying

   And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying,

   לֵךְgoמִזֶּהfrom hereוּפָנִיתָand you will turnלְּךָhave youקֵדְמָהon the eastוְנִסְתַּרְתָּand you will hide yourselfבְּנַחַלin the river ofכְּרִיתCherithאֲשֶׁרwhichעַל־פְּנֵיupon the face ofהַיַּרְדֵּן׃the Jordan

   Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.

4. 4

   וְהָיָהand beמֵהַנַּחַלfrom the riverתִּשְׁתֶּהit drinksוְאֶת־הָעֹרְבִיםand the ravensצִוִּיתִיhave I commandedלְכַלְכֶּלְךָto supply youשָׁם׃there

   And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there.

   וַיֵּלֶךְand wentוַיַּעַשׂand he didכִּדְבַרaccording to the word ofיְהֹוָהthe LORDוַיֵּלֶךְand wentוַיֵּשֶׁבand he satבְּנַחַלin the river ofכְּרִיתCherithאֲשֶׁרwhichעַל־פְּנֵיupon the face ofהַיַּרְדֵּן׃the Jordan

   So he went and did according unto the word of the LORD: for he went and dwelt by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.

   וְהָעֹרְבִיםand the ravensמְבִאִיםwere bringingלוֹto himלֶחֶםbreadוּבָשָׂרand meatבַּבֹּקֶרin the morningוְלֶחֶםand breadוּבָשָׂרand meatבָּעָרֶבin the eveningוּמִן־הַנַּחַלand from the riverיִשְׁתֶּה׃he drinks

   And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the brook.

   וַיְהִיand it came to passמִקֵּץafterיָמִיםdaysוַיִּיבַשׁand it dried upהַנָּחַלthe riverכִּיbecauseלֹא־הָיָהnot wasגֶשֶׁםrainבָּאָרֶץ׃in the land

   And it came to pass after a while, that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land.

   וַיְהִיand it came to passדְבַר־יְהֹוָהthe word of the LORDאֵלָיוto himלֵאמֹר׃saying

   And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying,

   קוּםariseלֵךְgoצָרְפַתָהto Zarephathאֲשֶׁרwhichלְצִידוֹןto Zidonוְיָשַׁבְתָּand you shall dwellשָׁםthereהִנֵּהbeholdצִוִּיתִיhave I commandedשָׁםthereאִשָּׁהa womanאַלְמָנָהa widowלְכַלְכְּלֶךָ׃to supply you

   Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.

    וַיָּקׇםand he aroseוַיֵּלֶךְand wentצָרְפַתָהto Zarephathוַיָּבֹאand cameאֶל־פֶּתַחto the door ofהָעִירthe cityוְהִנֵּה־שָׁםand behold thereאִשָּׁהa womanאַלְמָנָהa widowמְקֹשֶׁשֶׁתwas gatheringעֵצִיםsticksוַיִּקְרָאand calledאֵלֶיהָto herוַיֹּאמַרand saidקְחִי־נָאget I prayלִיto meמְעַט־מַיִםsomewhat waterבַּכְּלִיin the vesselוְאֶשְׁתֶּה׃so I may drink

    So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow woman was there gathering of sticks: and he called to her, and said, Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.

    וַתֵּלֶךְand she wentלָקַחַתto takeוַיִּקְרָאand calledאֵלֶיהָto herוַיֹּאמַרand saidלִקְחִי־נָאbring me I prayלִיto meפַּת־לֶחֶםa morsel of breadבְּיָדֵךְ׃in your hand

    And as she was going to fetch it, he called to her, and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thine hand.

12. 12

    וַתֹּאמֶרand saidחַי־יְהֹוָהas the LORD-livesאֱלֹהֶיךָyour Godאִם־יֶשׁ־לִיif has to meמָעוֹגis foodכִּיforאִם־מְלֹאif fullness ofכַף־קֶמַחa handful of mealבַּכַּדin the jarוּמְעַט־שֶׁמֶןand somewhat oilבַּצַּפָּחַתin the jugוְהִנְנִיand Iמְקֹשֶׁשֶׁתwas gatheringשְׁנַיִםtwoעֵצִיםsticksוּבָאתִיand I cameוַעֲשִׂיתִיהוּand I will prepare itלִיto meוְלִבְנִיand for my sonוַאֲכַלְנֻהוּand we will eat itוָמָתְנוּ׃and we will die

    And she said, As the LORD thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.

13. 13

    וַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֵלֶיהָto herאֵלִיָּהוּElijahאַל־תִּירְאִיdo not you should be afraidבֹּאִיgoעֲשִׂיdoכִדְבָרֵךְaccording to your wordאַךְbutעֲשִׂי־לִי־מִשָּׁםdo to me from thereעֻגָהa bread cakeקְטַנָּהlittleבָרִאשֹׁנָהat the firstוְהוֹצֵאתand you will bring it outלִיto meוְלָךְand for youוְלִבְנֵךְand for your sonתַּעֲשִׂיyou will doבָּאַחֲרֹנָה׃at the last

    And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son.

    כִּיforכֹהthusאָמַרsaidיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהֵיthe God ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelכַּדthe jar ofהַקֶּמַחthe flourלֹאnotתִכְלָהit will be at an endוְצַפַּחַתand the jug ofהַשֶּׁמֶןthe oilלֹאnotתֶחְסָרit will be lackingעַדuntilיוֹםday(תתן)[תֵּת־]יְהֹוָהgive the LORDגֶּשֶׁםrainעַל־פְּנֵיupon the face ofהָאֲדָמָה׃the earth

    For thus saith the LORD God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the LORD sendeth rain upon the earth.

15. 15

    וַתֵּלֶךְand she wentוַתַּעֲשֶׂהand didכִּדְבַרaccording to the word ofאֵלִיָּהוּElijahוַתֹּאכַלand did eat(הואוהיא)[הִיא־וָהוּא]it is and heוּבֵיתָהּand her householdיָמִים׃days

    And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days.

16. 16

    כַּדthe jar ofהַקֶּמַחthe flourלֹאnotכָלָתָהit was at an endוְצַפַּחַתand the jug ofהַשֶּׁמֶןthe oilלֹאnotחָסֵרlackingכִּדְבַרaccording to the word ofיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֲשֶׁרwhichדִּבֶּרspokeבְּיַדin the hand ofאֵלִיָּהוּ׃Elijah

    And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake by Elijah.

17. 17

    וַיְהִיand it came to passאַחַרafterהַדְּבָרִיםthe wordsהָאֵלֶּהtheseחָלָהhe became sickבֶּן־הָאִשָּׁהson of the womanבַּעֲלַתthe mistress ofהַבָּיִתthe houseוַיְהִיand it came to passחׇלְיוֹhis sicknessחָזָקstrongמְאֹדexceedinglyעַדuntilאֲשֶׁרwhichלֹא־נוֹתְרָה־בּוֹnot there remains against himנְשָׁמָה׃breath

    And it came to pass after these things, that the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, fell sick; and his sickness was so sore, that there was no breath left in him.

18. 18

    וַתֹּאמֶרand saidאֶל־אֵלִיָּהוּto Elijahמַה־לִּיwhat to meוָלָךְand to youאִישׁO man ofהָאֱלֹהִיםGodבָּאתָyou have entered intoאֵלַיto meלְהַזְכִּירto bring to remembranceאֶת־עֲוֺנִיmy sinוּלְהָמִיתand to slayאֶת־בְּנִי׃my son

    And she said unto Elijah, What have I to do with thee, O thou man of God? art thou come unto me to call my sin to remembrance, and to slay my son?

19. 19

    וַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֵלֶיהָto herתְּנִי־לִיgive to meאֶת־בְּנֵךְyour sonוַיִּקָּחֵהוּand he took himמֵחֵיקָהּfrom her bosomוַיַּעֲלֵהוּand he carried him upאֶל־הָעֲלִיָּהto the roof chamberאֲשֶׁר־הוּאwhich it isיֹשֵׁבdweltשָׁםthereוַיַּשְׁכִּבֵהוּand he made lie himעַל־מִטָּתוֹ׃upon his bed

    And he said unto her, Give me thy son. And he took him out of her bosom, and carried him up into a loft, where he abode, and laid him upon his own bed.

20. 20

    וַיִּקְרָאand calledאֶל־יְהֹוָהto the LORDוַיֹּאמַרand saidיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהָיmy Godהֲגַםis it alsoעַל־הָאַלְמָנָהupon the widowאֲשֶׁר־אֲנִיwhat Iמִתְגּוֹרֵרam staying as a sojournerעִמָּהּwith herהֲרֵעוֹתָhave you done harmלְהָמִיתby slayingאֶת־בְּנָהּ׃her son

    And he cried unto the LORD, and said, O LORD my God, hast thou also brought evil upon the widow with whom I sojourn, by slaying her son?

21. 21

    וַיִּתְמֹדֵדand he stretched himselfעַל־הַיֶּלֶדupon the childשָׁלֹשׁthreeפְּעָמִיםtimesוַיִּקְרָאand calledאֶל־יְהֹוָהto the LORDוַיֹּאמַרand saidיְהֹוָהthe LORDאֱלֹהָיmy Godתָּשׇׁבlet returnנָאI prayנֶפֶשׁ־הַיֶּלֶדthe soul a childהַזֶּהthisעַל־קִרְבּוֹ׃upon its entrails

    And he stretched himself upon the child three times, and cried unto the LORD, and said, O LORD my God, I pray thee, let this child's soul come into him again.

22. 22

    וַיִּשְׁמַעand heardיְהֹוָהthe LORDבְּקוֹלthe voice ofאֵלִיָּהוּElijahוַתָּשׇׁבand it returnedנֶפֶשׁ־הַיֶּלֶדthe soul a childעַל־קִרְבּוֹupon its entrailsוַיֶּחִי׃and he revived

    And the LORD heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived.

23. 23

    וַיִּקַּחand tookאֵלִיָּהוּElijahאֶת־הַיֶּלֶדthe childוַיֹּרִדֵהוּand he took down himמִן־הָעֲלִיָּהfrom the roof chamberהַבַּיְתָהthe homeוַיִּתְּנֵהוּand he delivered him upלְאִמּוֹto his motherוַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֵלִיָּהוּElijahרְאִיseeחַיlivingבְּנֵךְ׃your son

    And Elijah took the child, and brought him down out of the chamber into the house, and delivered him unto his mother: and Elijah said, See, thy son liveth.

24. 24

    וַתֹּאמֶרand saidהָאִשָּׁהthe womanאֶל־אֵלִיָּהוּto ElijahעַתָּהnowזֶהthisיָדַעְתִּיI knowכִּיthatאִישׁO man ofאֱלֹהִיםGodאָתָּהyou areוּדְבַר־יְהֹוָהand the word of the LORDבְּפִיךָin your mouthאֱמֶת׃truth

    And the woman said to Elijah, Now by this I know that thou art a man of God, and that the word of the LORD in thy mouth is truth.
