   וּפְלִשְׁתִּיםand-Philistinesנִלְחֲמוּfoughtבְיִשְׂרָאֵלagainst-Israelוַיָּנׇסand-fledאִישׁ־יִשְׂרָאֵלthe-men-of-Israelמִפְּנֵיfrom-beforeפְלִשְׁתִּיםthe-Philistinesוַיִּפְּלוּand-they-fellחֲלָלִיםslainבְּהַרon-the-mount-ofגִּלְבֹּעַ׃Gilboa

   Now the Philistines fought against Israel; and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain in mount Gilboa.

   וַיַּדְבְּקוּand-followed-hardפְלִשְׁתִּיםthe-PhilistinesאַחֲרֵיafterשָׁאוּלSaulוְאַחֲרֵיand-afterבָנָיוhis-sonsוַיַּכּוּand-they-struckפְלִשְׁתִּיםthe-Philistinesאֶת־יוֹנָתָןJonathanוְאֶת־אֲבִינָדָבand-Abinadabוְאֶת־מַלְכִּישׁוּעַand-Malchi-shuaבְּנֵיthe-sons-ofשָׁאוּל׃Saul

   And the Philistines followed hard after Saul, and after his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchi-shua, the sons of Saul.

   וַתִּכְבַּדand-grew-heavyהַמִּלְחָמָהthe-battleעַל־שָׁאוּלupon-Saulוַיִּמְצָאֻהוּhit-himהַמּוֹרִיםthe-archersבַּקָּשֶׁתwith-the-bowוַיָּחֶלand-he-was-in-dreadמִן־הַיּוֹרִים׃because-of-the-archers

   And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers hit him, and he was wounded of the archers.

   וַיֹּאמֶרand-saidשָׁאוּלSaulאֶל־נֹשֵׂאto-the-bearer-ofכֵלָיוhis-armorשְׁלֹףdrawחַרְבְּךָyour-swordוְדׇקְרֵנִיand-pierce-meבָהּin-itפֶּן־יָבֹאוּlest-comeהָעֲרֵלִיםthe-uncircumcised-onesהָאֵלֶּהtheseוְהִתְעַלְּלוּ־בִיand-abuse-meוְלֹאbut-notאָבָהwouldנֹשֵׂאthe-bearer-ofכֵלָיוhis-armorכִּיforיָרֵאhe-was-afraidמְאֹדmuchוַיִּקַּחand-tookשָׁאוּלSaulאֶת־הַחֶרֶבthe-swordוַיִּפֹּלand-fellעָלֶיהָ׃upon-it

   Then said Saul to his armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith; lest these uncircumcised come and abuse me. But his armourbearer would not; for he was sore afraid. So Saul took a sword, and fell upon it.

   וַיַּרְאand-sawנֹשֵׂא־כֵלָיוbearing-his-armorכִּיthatמֵתdiedשָׁאוּלSaulוַיִּפֹּלand-fellגַּם־הוּאalso-heעַל־הַחֶרֶבupon-the-swordוַיָּמֹת׃and-he-died

   And when his armourbearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise on the sword, and died.

   וַיָּמׇתand-diedשָׁאוּלSaulוּשְׁלֹשֶׁתand-the-threeבָּנָיוhis-sonsוְכׇל־בֵּיתוֹand-all-his-houseיַחְדָּוtogetherמֵתוּ׃have-died

   So Saul died, and his three sons, and all his house died together.

   וַיִּרְאוּand-they-sawכׇּל־אִישׁall-the-men-ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelאֲשֶׁר־בָּעֵמֶקwho-were-in-the-valleyכִּיthatנָסוּhad-fledוְכִי־מֵתוּand-that-have-diedשָׁאוּלSaulוּבָנָיוand-his-sonsוַיַּעַזְבוּthen-they-forsookעָרֵיהֶםtheir-citiesוַיָּנֻסוּand-they-fledוַיָּבֹאוּand-they-cameפְלִשְׁתִּיםthe-Philistinesוַיֵּשְׁבוּand-they-had-dweltבָּהֶם׃in-them

   And when all the men of Israel that were in the valley saw that they fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, then they forsook their cities, and fled: and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.

   וַיְהִיand-it-came-to-passמִמׇּחֳרָתon-the-morrowוַיָּבֹאוּand-they-cameפְלִשְׁתִּיםthe-Philistinesלְפַשֵּׁטto-stripאֶת־הַחֲלָלִיםthe-slainוַיִּמְצְאוּand-they-discoveredאֶת־שָׁאוּלSaulוְאֶת־בָּנָיוand-his-sonsנֹפְלִיםfallenבְּהַרon-the-mount-ofגִּלְבֹּעַ׃Gilboa

   And it came to pass on the morrow, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his sons fallen in mount Gilboa.

   וַיַּפְשִׁיטֻהוּand-they-stripped-himוַיִּשְׂאוּand-liftedאֶת־רֹאשׁוֹhis-headוְאֶת־כֵּלָיוand-his-armorוַיְשַׁלְּחוּand-sentבְאֶרֶץ־פְּלִשְׁתִּיםinto-the-land-of-the-Philistinesסָבִיבall-aroundלְבַשֵּׂרto-carry-tidings-toאֶת־עֲצַבֵּיהֶםtheir-idolsוְאֶת־הָעָם׃and-the-people

   And when they had stripped him, they took his head, and his armour, and sent into the land of the Philistines round about, to carry tidings unto their idols, and to the people.

    וַיָּשִׂימוּand-they-putאֶת־כֵּלָיוhis-armorבֵּיתthe-house-ofאֱלֹהֵיהֶםtheir-godsוְאֶת־גֻּלְגׇּלְתּוֹand-his-headתָקְעוּthey-fastenedבֵּיתthe-house-ofדָּגוֹן׃Dagon

    And they put his armour in the house of their gods, and fastened his head in the temple of Dagon.

11. 11

    וַיִּשְׁמְעוּand-they-heardכֹּלall-ofיָבֵישׁJabesh-גִּלְעָדgileadאֵת־כׇּל־אֲשֶׁר־עָשׂוּall-that-had-doneפְלִשְׁתִּיםthe-Philistinesלְשָׁאוּל׃of-Shaul

    And when all Jabesh-gilead heard all that the Philistines had done to Saul,

    וַיָּקוּמוּthey-aroseכׇּל־אִישׁall-the-menחַיִלat-armsוַיִּשְׂאוּand-liftedאֶת־גּוּפַתthe-body-ofשָׁאוּלSaulוְאֵתandגּוּפֹתthe-bodies-ofבָּנָיוhis-sonsוַיְבִיאוּםand-they-brought-themיָבֵישָׁהto-Jabeshוַיִּקְבְּרוּand-they-buriedאֶת־עַצְמוֹתֵיהֶםtheir-bonesתַּחַתunderהָאֵלָהthe-terebinthבְּיָבֵשׁin-Jabeshוַיָּצוּמוּand-they-fastedשִׁבְעַתsevenיָמִים׃days

    They arose, all the valiant men, and took away the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Jabesh, and buried their bones under the oak in Jabesh, and fasted seven days.

    וַיָּמׇתand-diedשָׁאוּלSaulבְּמַעֲלוֹfor-his-transgressionאֲשֶׁרwhichמָעַלhe-committedבַּיהֹוָהagainst-the-LORDעַל־דְּבַרupon-the-word-ofיְהֹוָהthe-LORDאֲשֶׁרwhichלֹא־שָׁמָרhe-did-not-keepוְגַם־לִשְׁאוֹלand-also-for-asking-counselבָּאוֹבof-a-mediumלִדְרוֹשׁ׃to-make-inquiry

    So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the LORD, even against the word of the LORD, which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to enquire of it;

    וְלֹא־דָרַשׁand-he-inquired-notבַּיהֹוָהof-the-LORDוַיְמִיתֵהוּtherefore-he-slew-himוַיַּסֵּבand-turned-overאֶת־הַמְּלוּכָהthe-kingdomלְדָוִידof-Davidבֶּן־יִשָׁי׃son-of-Jesse

    And enquired not of the LORD: therefore he slew him, and turned the kingdom unto David the son of Jesse.
